Obituary Preview: Addie Mae Johnson (86) was born January 10,1936 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina to the late Claude Johnson,Sr. and AddieThomas Johnson.
Addie, affectionately known by her family as “Little One” entered her eternal rest on February 25, 2022.
Addie was educated in the Edgecombe County School systems and was a 1955 graduate of W.A. Pattillo High School in Tarboro, North Carolina.
After high school, she later moved to New York and worked at Creedmoor State Psychiatric Center in Queens, NY as a Nursing Assistant. She returned home and attended Edgecombe Community College as a Typing Student. She retired from Black and Decker in Tarboro, North Carolina upon moving back.
Addie became a Jehovah’s Witness in 1981. She enjoyed going out in field service preaching and teaching the word of Jehovah, crocheting, making jewelry, and was the founder of “Wonder Fiber” massage products.
Addie was preceded in death by her loving siblings, Claude Johnson Jr., Mattie B. Knight, and Melvin Johnson.
Addie leaves a rich legacy with respect to humanity, generosity and most of all her love and faith in Jehovah to cherish her fond memories of her life to: one son, Ronald Ray Johnson (Delnora) of Pinetops, NC; two daughters, Joann Harris (James) of Fayetteville, NC; and Vida V. Johnson of the home; three sisters, Margaret J. Ruffin, Irene Johnson and Mary J. Brevard (Freddie) all of Tarboro, NC; one brother, Milton Johnson (Eunice) of Rocky Mount; six grandchildren, Desma, Toby, Reginald, Rontrell, Jay, and Allen; seventeen great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Aldridge grew up in Battleboro, North Carolina and had the privilege of spending many fun days / summers with family and friends in the triad area of NC.
Aldridge at an early age was baptized, dedicated his life to Christ and joined The Greater St. Delight Baptist Church in Castalia, NC.
Aldridge graduated from Nash Community College in 2014.  He loved his clothing aka “Looking Fly”, listening to music, loved to dance and was truly all about his family.   He was a great artist and could draw anything just by looking at it one time.  His creativity was a God sent talent.  Aldridge had the sweetest smile, the most infectious laugh that would make you smile even if you didn’t want to.  Just like his beloved father, Aldridge was also a great chef and loved to cook. Obituary Preview: William Lee Ellis, Sr. was born on January 7, 1943, to the late Johnnie James Ellis and Pauline Smith Ellis in Nash County, North Carolina. He transitioned from his residence on Sunday, February 6, 2022 with the words “I LOVE YOU”.  William received his education in the Nash County Public Schools System. He later met the sweet love of his life Martha Ann Taylor and on August 6, 1965 the lovebirds became one. To this union, God blessed them with three sons.  William through the course of his career worked for The University of Maryland (18 years), Black & Decker of Tarboro, NC (retired after 25 years), Ilco Unican of Rocky Mount, NC (10 years) and Piggly Wiggly of Rocky Mount, NC (8 years). Obituary Preview: Herbert Lynn Bonner, (63) of Lafayette County, Oxford, Mississippi was born November 13, 1958 to the late Reverend Cassie Edward Bonner, Sr. and Margurite Bonner.
Herbert, raised in a spiritual and musical home at an early age learned to play piano.  He (along with his two older brothers Edward, Kenneth and younger sister Debra) started singing with their beloved father, the late Reverend Cassie Bonner, Sr. at revivals and other engagements.
Herbert, loving the sound and styling of the late Reverend James Cleveland, developed his style of playing and directorship.  Upon graduating from Oxford High School, Herbert received a scholarship to Rust College where he recorded the hit single “Ring My Bell”, with Anita Ward. Being at Rust College, he developed an eye for talent and musicianship.
Herbert was also a part of the Thomas A. Dorsey Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses/GMWA. Being Minister of Music at Clear Creek Missionary Baptist Church (CCMBC), playing at various churches in the communities abroad, Herbert selected several vocalists which formed Christian Unity Community Choir (CUCC). During this time, Herbert also collaborated with the University of Mississippi and the BSU choir under the direction of Norman Seawright, Jr.
Herbert had a generous heart, especially for the younger generation who never realized their full musical potential and vocal talent.  He also had a special gift where he could ignite confidence in anyone he was working with. Herbert always had a song in his spirit and that song had the ability to touch thousands of people, not only in the State of Mississippi but across the country.
Herbert was a choir innovator trying something new in the community but never forgetting the traditional style of quartet and choir music by cleverly merging them together.  He gave to so many people, and he didn’t wait for the big bucks to do it. He gave with his God given talent and time. Herbert received numerous awards: “The James Cleveland Best New Artist Award”, “Stella Music Award Nomination”, “The Medgar Evers Peace Award” and several other awards from churches and communities for his dedication and musicianship.

Lenda went home to be with her savior on September 1, 2021 within the comfort of her residence surrounded by loving family.
Lenda finished thine course and received her crown of righteousness. Allowing her entry into eternal rest with her Heavenly Father.
Lenda received her education through the Nash and Edgecombe County School System.
Lenda was a dedicated employee of My Guardian Angel Group Home, until her health began to fail. She became a member of New Destiny Outreach Ministries and remained faithful.
Lenda proceeded in death by her husband, Carl (Trix) Douglas; two brothers, Thurman (Bo-Pete) Williams and Timothy Williams.
Lenda was a loving Mother, MeMe, Sister, Aunt and Friend. She was loved by many and will be forever missed by us all.  She leaves behind her cherished memories one son, Brian Sexton, Sr. (Maryssa) of Havelock, NC.; one daughter, Brandie Peoples of Rocky Mount, NC.; two sisters, Tina Smith (Rodney) and Brenda Bryant (Vernon) of Rocky Mount, NC.; one brother, Joseph S. Williams (Joyce) of Union City, GA.; one aunt, Lillie Harrison of Rocky Mount, NC.; one brother-in-law, Dwayne Douglas (Sharon), father-in-law, Salomon Douglas of Rocky Mount, NC and a very loving son-in-law, Joseph A. While attending college, Gloria met “Donald”, her devoted husband of 43 years. From their union, they were blessed with one child, Monique.
Gloria wore many hats in the workforce: Funeral Director, Life Insurance Agent, Substitute Teacher, Landlord, and Caretaker to name a few. She took pride in being a Funeral Director for Hilliard Funeral Home for over 30 years. She was a very loving wife and mother. Despite having only one child, she was “Mom” to many. Always caring and compassionate, she aided many senior citizens throughout her life especially those in and around her home and work communities. Of the many wonderful things about Gloria, at the top of everyone’s list was her smile, which could light up a room and she always had one to share with any and everyone.
Gloria leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Ralph “Donald”, her daughter, Monique, her three siblings, Mary, Floyd, and Pandora and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Monk transitioned to receive his crown on Sunday, May 16, 2021 surrounded by family and friends.
Monk attended the public school systems of Nash and Edgecombe counties. During that particular time, he had to leave school in order to help the family do farm work. Later on the family moved to Rocky Mount after many years.
Monk was employed with the Rocky Mount Coca Cola Bottling Company for more than twenty-seven years. He was always considered to be the life of the crowd especially during family reunions and other social gatherings. In the midst of it all, he enjoyed life to the fullest regardless.  He was a faithful member of the Hillside Social Club providing many different levels of community assistance to those in need.
Monk was preceded in death by one brother, James Lindbergh Williams; four sisters, Rosa Williams Johnson, Catherine Williams, Rodessa Williams Green and Betty Louise Williams Davis.
Monk leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of fifty-five years, Carolyn B. Obituary Preview: Robert Lee Smith, Jr., son of the late Robert Lee Smith, Sr. and Minnie Louise Fleetwood, was born March 30, 1956, in Paterson, NJ. He transitioned peacefully on April 14, 2021. Robert received his primary education in the New Jersey school system, graduating from Trenton Central High School where he developed a love for playing soccer, basketball, football and baseball; he even played basketball while in the Army. Robert also enjoyed watching sports on TV and was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan. He often wore his team gear to show his support and . Robert also enjoyed roller-skating and could dance on skates with such finesse and style. Robert was a dedicated and hard worker since his teenage years and one of his first jobs was as a dishwasher at a hotel in Princeton, NJ. He later continued employment in the food services industry as a cook, working for Amtrak Railways for more than 15 years and Syracuse University in New York. Robert later became a member of Abundant Life Ministries of Rocky Mount and enjoyed working with the food pantry ministry, helping those in need. Anyone that knew Robert can surely say he enjoyed being the “life of the party” and always made you laugh. Many would consider him a friend, as he maintained numerous friendships from his childhood years. But the highlight of Robert’s life was the day his son “Robbie” was born. Robert shared his love of sports with his son and they had a very special bond. Robert leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Bonnie Hess-Smith; one son, Robert Lee Smith III; one stepson, Jamie Calkins; one step-daughter, Brooke Billings; three sisters, Natasha Alleyne (Kenwin), Audrey Smith-Peterson (Reginald) and Brenda Fleetwood; one niece, Akeiba Fleetwood; one nephew, Terrez Fleetwood; a very special friend Lucy Brockington; and a large host of other relatives and friends.

Obituary Preview: Mary Brenda Beverly Trudell “PENNY” was born on June 27, 1947. Penny was the daughter of the late Robert Samuel Beverly and Enolia Patterson Thymes. She started her education in the Rapides Parish School System and was a graduate of Peabody Magnet High School. She attended Louisiana Vocational School, and then furthered her education at LSUA where she received a degree as a Registered Nurse. She spent her life caring for others and mastering the field of psychiatric nursing.
She started her nursing career at Pinecrest Developmental Center, then Central State Hospital. After 43 years and numerous accolades, she retired from her nursing career at Red River Treatment Center in 2018.  She had much faith in God and received Christ as her Personal Savior at an early age and continued to stand boldly on His promises. She was a faithful member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church. She had a love of sewing and simple things. She was considered very loyal and dedicated to the ones she loved.
On January 10, 2021, God called her home. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Martha Lee Jenkins and Rosaline Walker and one beloved son, Kerry Lee Trudell.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 45 years, Robert Trudell; one daughter, Kellie Williams; three sons, Robert (Renee) Beverly, Morris (Wanda) Beverly and Patrick (Paula) Williams; one godson, Troy Davidson; one brother, Huey Walker, Jr.; a special longtime friend like a sister, Teresa Merritt; grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and a host of kindhearted nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was a dedicated and active member for many years at Mann's Chapel A.M.E Church Red Oak, NC under the leadership of Rev. Doris E. Lindsey.  While at Mann's Chapel, she was a very faithful and active member.  She was a true child of God.

Adrienne Smith – also known as “Big A” was born on February 3, 1968 in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Clarence Debnam and Shirley Jones.
She attended the Paterson Board of Education Public School System where she graduated with high honors at P.S. #24 in 1982 and at the top of her class at John F. Kennedy High School in 1986.
Adrienne was employed by Wanaque Convalescent Center in Pompton Lakes, NJ for over 26 years until her retirement in 2016.  A few years later, she began two new careers as a Meal Monitor at the Paterson Board of Education and as a Mentor Counselor at the Paterson Boys & Girls Club in Paterson, NJ.
She was a dedicated and active member for over 50 years at Unity Missionary Church in Paterson, NJ under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Ethel Bland.  While at Unity Missionary Church, she was a faithful member of the Jr. Choir, Voices Choir, Bible Study Class, Usher Board and President of the Community Outreach Department.  She was a true child of God.
Adrienne married Ralph Smith in 2007 and from this union, they were able to combine their beautiful families.
In 2018, Adrienne and Ralph moved their family and started new roots in Rocky Mount, NC.  The family became committed members of St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, NC under the leadership of Rev. Dr. James T. Worthy.
Our precious angel was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
Adrienne leaves to cherish her phenomenal and extraordinary memories, her loyal and devoted husband Ralph.  He was her crème of the crop and love of her life who put a smile on her face each and everyday; her loving children Clarence Jones of Paterson, NJ, Shikena Kyte Jr. and Cyrus Jones both of Prospect Park, NJ, Dabarr Jones of Paterson, NJ, June’e Jones, EmyjaJones, Taz’meek Jones and Armyni Jones all of Rocky Mount, NC; step-daughter Latoya Grant of Gates County, NC; her ambitious and brilliant 21 grands and 3 step-grands; her siblings Frieda Ray (Eddie) of Passaic, NJ, Victoria Rollins (Henry) of Paterson, NJ, Richard Jones (Alice) of Elmwood Park, NJ, Linda Lowery (Kenneth) of Norristown, PA, and Barbara Jones-Lewis (Rodney) of Rocky Mount, NC; in-laws Curtis Smith (Connie), Kenneth Smith, Walter Edmonds (Sharron), Larry Shoulars (Delois), Ricky Shoulars, Jerome Shoulars (Lisa), Jimmy Shoulars (Evelyn), Joanette Holloman (Redgie), Brenda Joyner (Larry), Brenda Winfrey, Joyce Eason, Genora Wood (Willis), Nellie White (Jonathan), Patricia Harrison; and a host of kindhearted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends in which she really loved.
