Obituary Preview: Billie Wright was born on August 23rd, 1941, in Louisburg, NC, the second oldest in a family of 10 siblings. He was educated in the Louisburg NC school system, where he attended Riverside H.S.

In search of better job opportunities, Billie relocated to New York City in 1958. By 1967, he met and married his wife, Bertha Wright, and became a father to her two young sons, Wilmer and William. In 1969, Billie and Bertha welcomed a new addition to the family, their daughter, Tabatha.

Raising three children was incredibly challenging. At times, Billie juggled multiple jobs to support his family. In the mid-1970s, Billie found a steady job as a maintenance custodian at the apartment building where the family resided, a position he held for decades.

Billie was not without his personal adversities, which escalated during the collapse of his 19-year marriage. But, eventually, in the mid-1990s, he met his long-time partner, Roseann. He discovered new meaning in his life when he witnessed the birth of two more children, Angelina and William Travis in 1997 and 1999, respectively. Having kids again made Billie want to be a better man and gave him another chance at fatherhood. Everywhere Billie went, he made friends. The warmth of his smile put people at ease and his friendly and joking nature made him extremely popular everywhere he went. He was a larger-than-life figure who loved his family and always wanted the absolute best in life for all of his children. He used to always say to us, “I want you to be better than me.”

Billie loved watching Major League Baseball and Entertainment Wrestling. He also enjoyed reading newspapers, cooking and driving. But most of all, he enjoyed taking care of his young children and playing Spades with the family.

After a couple of years battling illnesses, Billie passed away on Friday, March 29th, 2024. His life was a gift to us all and we were blessed to have him among us for as long as we did.

Billie is preceded in death by his father Alexander Wright, his mother Thelma B. Wright Leonard, his wife Bertha Wright, his partner Roseann Graham, his sister Sally E. Spivey and his stepson Wilmer L. Long. He leaves behind his oldest daughter Tabatha (Anthony) Winfield, his stepson William C. (Johanna) Long, his daughter Angelina Wright, his son William Travis Wright, his three brothers Charlie (Ellen) Wright, Mark B. Spivey and Charles L. Spivey, his six sisters Charity P. Baxter, Ruby L. Wright, Gail A. Robinson, Marie Williams, Maxine Spivey and Peggy Robinson, his grandson King Tejada, seven step grandchildren Tamiesha Long, Louis Long, Gabrielle Long, Danielle Long, Courtney Long, William Long, Jr. and Sarah-Ann Long, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. After graduation, she attended Morris College in Sumter, SC. Upon receiving her degree, Rebecca taught public school for a few years in Orangeburg, SC, before moving to New York City. Rebecca was an Executive Secretary to the President of Kayser-Roth for over forty years before her retirement.

Rebecca was better known and affectionately called “Auntie” by her nieces and nephews and ‘Bee’ or “Bec” by her friends. She was a kind, sweet, and gentle person. Rebecca was an avid sports fan. She loved her New York Mets, Knicks, and Giants. In fact, on her 100th Birthday, she received a personal autograph from the New York Knicks power forward Julius Randle.

Rebecca’s survivors include one son, Theodore “Ted” Holliday of Linden, New Jersey, and one grandson, U.S. Army Sergeant Sheldon Holliday, currently stationed in Germany. A nephew, Benjamin A Knox, Jr., of Sumter, SC, a niece, Michelle Johnson of Sumter, SC, and a host of grandnieces and grandnephews, other relatives, and friends, including the life-long residents of 410 Central Park West.

Yvonne was educated within the New York City Public System, where she attended both PS 188 and JHS 22 for elementary and middle school. She later received her High School Diploma from Seward Park High School.

Yvonne had an infectious personality and thus began working in the retail industry as a sales representative for Classy Ladies and Arrow Shirts, where she later retired.

Yvonne met Alfred Turner, also known as “Juicy,” through this union, and her firstborn son, Alfred Turner Jr., was born. Her love of children and overall heart of gold led her to expand her family and adopt two additional sons: Martell Bias and Mark Bias. Raising her three sons into strong black men was one of her greatest accomplishments.

In 1999, Yvonne met and later married Steve Trotman, and together, they continued to raise a family of young men. Yvonne attended the Gospel Temple Church, and through her fellowship, she converted, accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and became a member.

Yvonne was a free spirit who welcomed everyone. She was extremely generous and would be willing to offer others her last. Yvonne enjoyed cooking and ensuring family and friends had full bellies. She is most notably known in the family for her infamous “Peach Cobbler”. She loved music, specifically within the R&B/Soul genre, like songs from Barry White, Johnny Gill, and Robin Thicke, to name a few. However, her favorite song, “Juicy,” would get her out on the dance floor every time, with a trail of other dancers defeated by her moves. Yvonne was indeed a Showstopper and a confident, assertive woman. She was a fashionista, wearing the latest clothing trends during her youth and ensuring her children were always dressed to impress. Yvonne leaves to mourn her older sister, Patricia Bias Gray; older brother, George Bias; youngest brother, Ulyse Bias; two sisters-in-law, Denise Bias, and Lorraine Bias; her loving children, Alfred Turner Jr., Martell Bias, Mark Trotman, four step-children, Dolores Turner, Debra Yates, Danielle Johnson, and David Johnson; two daughters-in-law, Reina Turner, and Desdamona Snead; four grandchildren, Tyreek Turner, Kathryn Bias, Cataleya Turner, and Eleanor Bias; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. We will all miss her greatly and continue to honor her for the rest of our days until we meet her again!

As a teenager, Henry enjoyed working for his uncle Bill and fixing radios and TVs. Henry started maturing as a young man, and he had different interests in life. However, one thing that stood out was his passion for cars. So, when he got a job at Handover Transporting Corp., he was happy. As time passed, he grew more passionate about a career in trucking when he moved to Florida and obtained his CDL License.

He then decided to move back to New York, where he worked for J.B. Hunt for 17 years. During his journey, Henry found love, marriage, and two stepchildren. Henry moved to New Jersey to be closer to his job during this time. Henry enjoyed driving, whether long-distance, on road trip vacations, or just around the neighborhood.

Henry spent a lot of time with his family, enjoying water parks, especially Dorney Park, with his job and family. He liked to fish with his brothers and nephews; he loved Thanksgiving - (Baba brisket of beef), family get-togethers, bbq's, old movies, popcorn, peanut butter sandwiches, his favorite ramen noodles, Chinese food, spaghetti, and beef stew. His favorite desserts were ice cream and white cake frosting; with a diet pepsi on the side. As you can see, food was his weakness, but he enjoyed life.

Henry was more than a brother, cousin, uncle, nephew, and friend. He was loved by all who came in contact with him. He was a caring, loving father figure to many, loyal, strong, trustworthy, honest, easy to talk to, funny, and corny (especially his jokes). His long socks made him just the best of the best. He was pure love, and love was him.

He departed this life on March 6, 2024 and leaves to cherish fond memories: six sisters, Arvella, Sharvon, Yolanda, Valerie, Kassey, and Nicole; five brothers, Reggie, Darrell, Gregory, Nicholas, and Jamie; aunt, Idmay Taylor; uncle, Loring Hewins; twenty-nine nieces; twenty-one nephews; nine great-nieces; six great-nephews; eight cousins; three god sisters, Joy, Victory and Chrissy; three best friends, Eddie, Victor and Eric; ex-wife; two stepchildren; girlfriend, Carolina and son Henry; a brother-in-law, Virgil Vanarsdale; a sister-in-law, Jessica Guzman; and a host of family and friends.
