Dakota Levi Stevens - October 21, 2013 - April 27, 2024

Departed: 04/27/2024 (Crown Point)
Obituary Preview: Dakota Levi Stevens, affectionally known to his family as Levi, age 10, entered in Jesus loving arms on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
Dakota was born on October 21, 2013 in Munster, Indiana.
He is survived by his sister, Nora Faye; and many loving, numerous family and friends.
Levi marched to the beat of his own drum. He absolutely loved the outdoors. Many insects and frogs were caught by him on his bug hunting expeditions. He had a love for Sharks and believed he would discover a new species, Legos, where he could build anything, Minecraft, his Pokmon cards, and his Tablet. He loved to use his imagination and believe me when I say, he had a very creative imagination. Levi loved to read and make up his own stories and even act them out. He was a little performer in front of any camera. He loved to sing and dance quirky at any given moment. He loved to play board games and believed he truly won every time. Levi was extremely artistic. He loved drawing and coloring. When it came to schoolwork, he was brilliant and he truly loved math. School on the other hand, pretty sure he gave his teachers and staff a run for their money. (If you know, you know). Despite it all, his Favorite Teacher, Mrs. Tarnowski stood by his side and was a huge inspiration to him. This little guy was a Master Bargainer who believed strongly in his own opinions even if they were wrong. (Once again, if you know, you know).
Levee (as his sister called him) was a great big brother and loved Nora tremendously. His happiest moments were with the ones he loved. His smile could light up any room he walked into and he truly had a huge heart. To know him was to Love him.
Despite all the hardships Levi went through, he remained optimistic. OUR HEARTS WILL TRULY FOREVER BE BROKEN. He will be tremendously missed and forever loved by his family, his teacher, Mrs. Tarnowski, friends, and anyone else who was Blessed enough to know him.
Levi used to attend the Boys and Girls Club in Chesterton and enjoyed his time there. We ask, in lieu of flowers, please make donations in Levis name to the Boys and Girls Club, 521 W. 1100 N., Chesterton, IN 46304.
Arrangements were entrusted with Geisen Funeral Home, 606 E. 113th Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307.

Departed: 06/01/2024 (Crown Point)
Obituary Preview: George N. Fitusis, beloved husband, father, and papou, passed away on June 1, 2024, at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family in Crown Point, IN. He was born on May 5, 1932, in Pityos, Chios, Greece.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Angeline (née Poponas), his four daughters Kelly (Dane) Buckley, Theodora Batistatos, Niki Fitusis, Mary (Scott) Fitusis-Mojica, and six grandchildren, Kleanthi Batistatos, Elaina Gemelas, Angela Batistatos, Christopher (Alexandra) Gemelas, Jorgina Mojica, Andrew Mojica, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Nikolaos and Kalliopi Fitousis, and siblings Yiannis Fitousis, Paraskevi Xidias, Dimitrios Fitousis, and Fotios Fitousis.
From humble beginnings in Nazi-occupied Greece to seeing the world and sailing the globe in the Greek Merchant Marine, George’s mission was to create a better life for himself and his future family. That brought him to the U.S., where the man with a less-than-second-grade education went on to build a 50+ year career in the restaurant industry.
To those closest to him, George was a pillar of strength and support who always found a way to make light of any situation. A man of selflessness and generosity, George was known for calling everyone “my friend”—whether he knew them for 30 years or 30 seconds. He truly made a monumental impact on everyone he encountered.

Petros "Pete" Papamihalakis - December 11, 1960 - May 27, 2024

Departed: 05/27/2024 (Crown Point)
Obituary Preview: Petros "Pete" Papamihalakis, age 63, of Crown Point, found peace on May 27, 2024 after his battle with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. He was surrounded by the what was first and foremost in his life always, his family.
His wife, Becky (nee Dristas) of 38 years; son, Nicholas Papamihalakis; daughter, Kathryn (Anthony) Maidment; daughter, Emily Papamihalakis; and grandson, Anthony Scott Maidment Jr. Also mourning his loss is his mother, Maria Papamihalakis; brother, Stavros (Elizabeth) Papamihalakis; and many nieces, nephews, their children and extended family and dear friends.
Preceding him in death is his father, Efstratios Papamihalakis; and his infant sister, Kyriaki.
Pete came to this country at the age of 11. He was a diligent hardworking man, who from the age of 15, worked in restaurants to help support his family. He married the love of his life in 1986 and raised 3 wonderful children that were his pride and joy. He worked tirelessly 6 days a week as a cook and then chef at the family owned Paragon restaurants over many years. He was known for his amazing Lemon Rice Soup that people from as far as Florida would stop and bring buckets of it back to their homes. He became a co-owner of Gino’s in Merrillville as well in later years, but always showcased his pride in making food and overseeing the operation of a large kitchen. He was a perfectionist and wanted people to be happy with his work, evident by the number of people in this region now working in various restaurants who knew Pete and trained in his kitchen. They all knew the same truth, he could be something else to work with! Pete loved working outside so as his kids grew older he started a lawn care company, aptly named “Precision Lawn Maintenance”. He referred to it as the scholarship program for his kids college funds, as he himself never attended college. When he retired from restaurants he kept his company going until Alzheimer's made that too difficult. Pete had the kind of heart that when he loved you, you never doubted it. He loved you hard. He expected you to work as hard as he did. He gifted his children with his work ethic, his intense love, loyalty of family and the people closest to you in life. If you were Pete’s friend, you were family and you knew it. He will be missed and mourned by so many. We have been mourning his loss every day since his diagnosis and as parts of him flickered and disappeared. Alzheimer's is cruelly and accurately called “the long goodbye.” Early onset Alzheimer's is much more aggressive, so this was much faster, and seemly much more cruel because he was so young. We prayed for peace. We never gave up, but Pete deserved so much better. Support research. We don’t want other families to go through this. Pete wouldn’t. As he taught us all- there can be no quit.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Trisagion at 5:00 PM.

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who want to pay their respects. They help to notify people of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and provide an opportunity for loved ones to express their condolences.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by the family members or close friends of the deceased, with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service, as well as any charitable donations or tributes in lieu of flowers.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it's recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important details. Aim for around 150-200 words.
