He departed this world with a sigh, after the Lord called him home on April 26, 2024. Matthew was a native of Miami, Florida and made Athens, Georgia his permanent home in 2006, after spending many summers in Athens during his younger years with family.
Matthew was a believer of Christ and was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Usher Ministry and served until his health declined. In retrospect, he lived, he loved, and he laughed. Matthew loved cooking and barbecuing was his passion. He was always ready to gather, entertain, and had a big personality. Socializing with family and friends was very important and rewarding for him. He enjoyed fishing for leisure and loved listening to jazz and gospel music. He never met a stranger and found purpose in assisting senior citizens in his neighborhood.
Matthew was known as a sharp dresser. He loved all styles of hats and was known for wearing his signature “Kangol”, which was his favorite hat. Even though Matthew was never blessed with biological children, he was a mentor to his nephews, nieces, relatives, and younger people that he imparted wisdom to and shared his life experiences.
He leaves to cherish his memories; Sister; Jacqueline Goodlowe, Brother; Larry (Cecelia) Hudson, Aunt; Darlene (Bennett) Johnson, Sister-In-Law; Loretta Stovall. After graduating from Athens Technical College, Shirley immediately began her career in the healthcare field. She was employed with Grandview Care Center for over thirty years.
Including her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Alveria Law. Shirley’s beautiful life will forever be cherished by: her husband, Larry L. Hudson; loving daughter, Shannon Hawes; son, Reginald Parrott; stepdaughter, Neka Hudson; stepson, Dreceko Hudson (Shanta), Lanier Slack (Sherry); eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Jacquelyn Williams and Alice Wingate; and a host of nieces, nephews,cousins, and friends.

On April 2, 2024, God softly spoke her name and dispatched an angel to receive another one of his own to come home. At his home, she accepted his call and went home to be with the Lord, to suffer this world no longer. There was no pain or sorrow in this acceptance, only love and peace. She will get the chance to meet her Savior face to face. So we will keep this celebration close to our hearts as we rejoice, reflect, and remember the time with our aunt and sister, Jearline. Now take your rest, Auntie. Until we meet again on the other side. We love you and we are going to miss you dearly.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Rucker; mother, Rossie Mae Rucker; brother, Leonard Rucker, Jr.; two great-nieces, Tiffany Barnett and Braylee Dalton; and an aunt that she loved so much, Frances R.

Randy accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New SpringHill Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Davenport. Randy attended Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Georgia.
Randy enjoyed being with family and friends. He spent much of his life helping others in any way he could, making any and everybody laugh and was an angel to many. Randy departed this life on March 14, 2024; he was preceded in death by his father, Limmie Hull, Jr., sister, Genevea Mbanefo- Lattimore, and brothers, Leonard Hull and Micheal Hull.
Randy leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Aretha Ballard-Hull; daughter, Catrinda Cox; son, Terrance Jones; stepdaughters, Shaquandra Edwards, Kendra Edwards (Dante’), and Sharetha (Jermaine) Johnson; and sisters, Mary Elaine Hull- Platt of Athens, GA and Cynthia Lenora Hull- Clark (Frederick) of Athens, GA. Randy also had 10 grandkids and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends that he loved dearly.

Mr. Harold Preston Horton was born on June 20, 1933, to the late Henry and Annie Mae Horton. He was preceded in death by his parents as a child and was raised by a loving and caring grandmother, Mama Eva.
Harold was educated in the public schools of Athens. He graduated from Albany State College (now University) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, Harold was drafted in the Army for two years. Later, he received a Master’s Degree in Education and an Ed.S. in Administration and Supervision from the University of Georgia. Mr. Horton was a middle grades teacher in Madison and Clarke Counties. He completed the Management Development Program with the Citizens and Southern National Bank and was promoted to a banking officer. After serving as Principal of Lyons Middle School, Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School, and Chase Street Elementary School, Mr. Horton retired in 1993.
Harold met the love of his life, Mary Ann Haney, during the late ‘50s while visiting home from college. A love story of dedication and marriage developed and lasted for over 60 years. Also a true lover of animals, their family grew with at least two perfect dogs, Tiggs and Mitts, and a beautiful talking parrot, Jerry Buster.
Everyone who knew Harold, knew how much he loved traveling (with Mary Ann and friends), music, dance, and yard work. Harold was blessed and proud to be surrounded by two beautiful families: the Hortons and the Barnetts. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Mary Ann; sister, Margrette Horton; cousin, Anita Coleman; niece, Theordis (Don) Lake; nephew, Dontae Lake; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. A truly dedicated civic supporter of public education, Mr. Horton provided financial support and physical labor toward helping students achieve their chosen goals. His motto was, “A strong, well-prepared mind leads to a strong, productive future.”
