Obituary Preview: Harry S. DeBlasio, a lifelong resident of Hackensack, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the age of 92 years. Harry was a firefighter for the City of Hackensack Fire Department for 25 years, where he drove Engine One and was known for his outstanding cooking skills, especially chili, among his fellow firefighters. Harry also operated his own landscaping business for over forty years where his free form sculpting of shrubs was highly regarded by all. Harry was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War receiving two Bronze Stars, serving as a cook throughout his Army service. Harry was known as a kind, generous and caring man by all those who he encountered, in his neighborhood, markets and travels about town. He loved sitting on his porch greeting his neighbors and friends that drove by daily. Always ready to talk and regale you with his stories. He was the beloved husband of Virginia M. (nee Azzato) for 65 years before she passed away in 2019 on Thanksgiving Day. Devoted father of Gary DeBlasio of Manahawkin, Gail Cortese and her husband Peter of Lincoln Park, and Gaylin DeBlasio. Cherished grandfather of Christina, Nicole and Imad Ghandour, Christoper Gold and Lauren Gold. Adored great grandfather of Gia Rose and Ella Kai Ghandour. He will be truly missed by all. Family and friends will be received from 10:00-11:00 AM on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 49 Vreeland Avenue, Hackensack. Angelo was the most loving son, brother, brother-in-law, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Angelo is survived by his loving wife, Maria, whom he has been married to for 59 years, his wonderful children, Domenica, Vincenza (R.J.), Joseph (Kelly), and his four angel grandchildren, Jake, Joseph, Madison, and Karly. Angelo is survived by his two sisters, Rose and Gina (Carlo). Angelo was pre-deceased by his brother-in-law, Lucindo. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. Marie is predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years, Joseph Cafiero, her parents Salvatore and Frances Garafalo, brothers Michael and Gabriel, sister Mildred, as well as many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws. Marie is survived by her twin brothers, Robert & Salvatore Garafalo (BobbyJun). Marie was a devoted mother to James Slater and his wife, Mercy and mother-in-law of Teresa Slater. Loving grandmother of Jennifer Slater and Jose. Marie was also a great-grandmother of David Slater, Nathan Pedroza, Gabriel, Mia and Gianna Camacho. She was a loving aunt to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as a Godmother to many who she loved dearly and treated as her own.
Marie was employed for 35 1/2 years at Macy's in Willowbrook, a job that she truly enjoyed and loved. She treasured going out to eat, cooking, making her Sunday sauce with meatballs and could always be found laughing and smiling at all family celebrations.
Marie loved her family more than anything and looked forward to big gatherings, holidays, vacations, good times at the shore, Atlantic City trips and listening to her favorite crooner Frank Sinatra who was singing to her until the end. She will be deeply missed, and her spirit will live on in those who loved her.

Obituary Preview: Thomas "Slark" Schaitberger died peacefully on April 18, 2024. He was born on February 24, 1934 in New York City to Moya (Nee Slark) and Henry Schaitberger. Tom entered the Navy at age 17 and served on the aircraft carrier Coral Sea from 1951 to 1955. Tom was very proud of his Naval service. After leaving the Navy, Tom met Anne Malagiere whom he married on September 14, 1958. Tom and Anne were married for 65 years. Tom worked for Public Service Electric and Gas Company for 38 years, starting as a meter reader and retired as a customer service representative. "Annie and Tommy" were a match made in heaven and throughout their long marriage were blessed with scores of family and friends whom they loved and made a lifelong impression upon. Tom was "Uncle Tom" to many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and the "kids in the neighborhood." Tom loved kids, sports, wiffle ball, the Cincinnati Reds, the New York Jets, fishing, dogs, nature, Florida and all things living; but above all, he loved his wife "Annie." Truly a life well lived in Christ. Tom is predeceased by his sisters Irene Massey, Moya ("Sissy") Van Steenburgh, MaryAnne O'Malley and brother Henry Schaitberger as well as brothers-in-law, Thomas Massey, Lester Van Steenburgh and Alfred Malagiere and nephew Kevin Massey. Obituary Preview: Linda A. Garafalo (nee Levis) born and raised in Hackensack passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 30th. Linda is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years Salvatore, devoted mother of Michele Campos and her husband Rich, Debbie Garofalo and Mike, Diana Mumm and her husband Paul, cherished grandmother of Sophia, Samantha, Aiden, and Owen. Survived by her brother Richard Levis and his wife Agnes, sister-in-law Marie Cafiero, brother-in-law Robert Garafalo and loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews, who she treated as her own. Pre-deceased by her parents Leo and Dina Levis, her in-laws Salvatore and Frances Garafalo, as well as brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.
Linda was a lifelong parishioner of Saint Anthony's of Padua Church, where she met and married the love of her life Sal. You could always find her in the kitchen of the church making meatballs and sauce for a pasta dinner, in the office making copies of music for the choir, where she sang every Sunday and if you were lucky you had her on your wiffleball team during vacation Bible school.
Linda was a teacher through and through. As a strong supporter of the Hispanic congregation, she worked side-by-side to teach them the traditions of St. Anthony's that she was raised with.
She started her teaching career at Broadway School, taught at Holy Trinity School and was an original member of the Hackensack Cares Program where her heartfelt kindness and love touched so many. From 1986-2005, Linda taught first grade at Fairmount School where she retired to spend time with her grandchildren.
Her teaching didn't stop at school, we all learned her traditions. From flipping pancakes, making meatballs, baking cookies to put on her famous cookie dishes that were part of EVERY family gathering to helping her grandchildren learn to make pizza and their favorite desserts.
Linda's unconditional love and support will be greatly missed. It will leave an empty space in our hearts that we will fill with her cherished memories. The Funeral will begin from the G. Delia was simple, kind, compassionate and always willing to help anyone in need. Delia fully embodied putting others first before herself, never wanting to worry or burden others with her problems. She is fondly remembered for her love of the Lord and joy for cooking and gardening. Her home in New Jersey "411 Simons Ave." became home to many friends and family.
Delia's memory is honored by her loving family: Mario Jr., Doris, Aviel and Mia; Lisa Marie and Harold; and Maridel.

Prior to retiring in 1992, Jack worked for many years at the Hackensack Public School System as a Supply Supervisor and he proudly served in the United States Army in the 334th Ordnance Depot Company during the Korean Conflict. He received the Army of Occupation of Germany Medal after his service. Jack enjoyed many wonderful vacations and small trips with his family. Jack was an avid sports fan who shared his passion with his grandsons. Jack was especially enthusiastic about bowling and collegiate football and basketball, where he was often consulted for tips during March Madness. He was a parishioner of St. Francis R.C. Church in Hackensack, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, a member of the St. Francis Socialites, and a member of their Usher's Society. He was, also, a member of the American Legion – Veterans of Foreign War – South Hackensack Post 8005. Beloved husband of the late Rose Ingoglia (nee De Riso) (2014) for over 61 years. Loving father of Dr. Robert Thomas Ingoglia and his wife Mary Ann of Hasbrouck Heights, and Elizabeth Anne Mliczek of Nutley. Cherished grandfather of Ryan Michael (Nancy) and Stephen Kyle (Monika) and adored great grandfather of Felicity Sofia. Dearest brother of the late William Ingoglia and Jenny D'Arminio.
