Ladies and gentlemen, family and friends,

We gather here today to celebrate the life of Alan, who has recently made his journey to a place of eternal rest. It is a deeply humbling and inspiring honor to stand before you and eulogize not just a friend, but our best friend, and a person who touched our lives in countless ways.

When I think of Alan, the first thing that comes to mind is his unwavering love for the Celtic Football Club. No matter how near or far we were from the action, Alan's passions for his team knew no bounds. It is only fitting that we celebrate his life with a touch of green and white to represent his team. In this solemn moment, let us remember Alan's support for the Celtic Football Club as a metaphor for his passion and commitment to everyone he loved and cared for.

Alan was much more than a best friend; he was a teacher, showing us how to explore the world with courage. When I recall how he taught me to ride a bike, it brings back a bittersweet smile. There we were at the top of a hill, and with a gentle push, away I went, full of fear and excitement. Alan showed me that it was possible to overcome fear, that sometimes all it took was a simple push in the right direction. And that is exactly what he did throughout our lives.

Some of us might remember how he taught me to swim; of course, his unconventional method of pushing me around the rapids at the Playdrome, gasping for air, never stopped him from having a laugh. Those fun, laughter-filled moments we shared with Alan enriched our lives in ways we cannot measure.

Stories of Alan are best described as “misadventures.” There was the time he led us, more like a band of merry pranksters, down the Clyde and tasked us with building a fire. In a moment of inspiration, he threw a flare into the fire, resulting in a show of sparks that left us in awe and his brand new pair of Caterpillar boots ruined. But no harm done. Just Alan laughing it off, wearing his singed boots for weeks afterward.

As we come together to celebrate his time on this earth, we must also learn from the adventurous life he so generously shared with us. Perhaps that is why Alan put his teaching methods to the test with his friends; he wanted us all to be stronger, braver, and to find joy even in the face of adversity.

So as we bid farewell to our dear friend Alan, let us carry his spirit and the lessons he taught us wherever we go and whatever trials the future may bring. Through the ongoing fires and storms in our lives, let us remember his laughter and humor that guided us through even the most nerve-racking experiences.

Take comfort in the knowledge that Alan may be physically gone, but he will always be with us, in our memories, in our hearts, and in the strength that he helped us develop.

As we say goodbye, I can almost hear him whispering in our ears:

"Be strong through the hard times,
And laugh when it gets rough.
Fear not the unexpected,
For life can be tough."

In the loving memory of our dear friend, Alan, may you rest in eternal peace. Thank you for enriching our lives with your infectious humor, your unending love for Celtic Football Club, and above all, your unwavering friendship.

Godspeed, Alan.
