Dear family, friends, and loved ones,

We are gathered here today to celebrate and honor the life of a man who was not only a vital part of our lives but also a pillar of strength, a source of inspiration and a guiding light - our beloved grandfather, Bob Moodley.

Bob was a simple, humble and grounded man who never let his success or accomplishments overshadow the fact that he was a kind and loving person. Despite the adversities he faced, Bob was never one to complain or dwell on the negative aspects of life. Instead, he chose to embrace the journey that life had to offer, and with determination and hard work, he transformed the lives of his family and the people around him.

Raised in humble beginnings, our grandfather did not have much in terms of material possessions or wealth. However, he had an abundance of love, integrity, and unwavering faith. He took the little he had and built a beautiful and enriching life for himself and his family. His commitment to hard work was evident in his dedicated service at Plascon Paint and later his tenure as a bus mechanic in Northdene. But it was his foray into being a store owner where he truly flourished.

The general store that he opened not only marked the beginning of a successful business journey but also served as a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit, vision, and tenacity. Through his hard work and perseverance, the store not only provided for his family but also served the community as a place where everyone was treated with warmth and respect.

As proud as our grandfather was of his accomplishments, his greatest joy in life remained his family - and above all else, his endless love for his grandchildren. He would often reminisce about the joy and laughter that his grandchildren brought into his life. Each one of their successes and achievements were a source of immense pride for him, and he never hesitated to share his happiness with others.

There is a beautiful poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye called "Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep." It eloquently captures the essence of our grandfather's spirit and his everlasting presence in our lives. The poem reads as follows:

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

As we bid farewell to our beloved grandfather today, let us remember his teachings, celebrate his life and cherish the countless memories we were fortunate enough to share with him. His spirit is now a part of the winds that blow, the sun on the ripened grain, and the soft starlight at night. He may not be physically present among us, but his love and spirit will endure in our hearts, and so, he will never truly be gone.

As we move forward, let us find comfort and solace in the knowledge that our grandfather, Bob Moodley, lived a full, accomplished life while being guided by his love and devotion to his family, his community, and his values. Let the lessons he taught us inspire us to live our lives with the same sense of determination, humility, and love.

Rest in peace, dear Bob – a loving grandfather, a humble and inspirational man. May your spirit forever guide and watch over us.
