After leaving the nursery school she went on to sell insurance and then ultimately ended up working at the Westchester Broadway Theatre prior to her retiring to Cary, NC. One of Joan’s passions was photography where she received many awards and was always toting her camera with her. Joan re-located to Naples, FL in February 2019 to be closer to her son Scott.Joan was pre-deceased by her husband Richard King, and daughter, Karen Chamberlain-Flegar.Joan is survived by her brother, James Burhans (Linda), her son, Scott Chamberlain (Linda), son-in law, Paul Flegar, stepson, Ricky King (Audrey), grandchildren; Luke Flegar, Zachary Flegar (Heather), Jake Flegar, Taylor Chamberlain, Nicholas Chamberlain, Robert Fritsche (Jessica), Ricky King Jr., great grandson Indiana Flegar, and niece Stacey Burhans. Joan is also survived by many cousins.A private burial will be held at a later date.In Joan’s memory, the family asks that a donation be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.

Obituary Preview: Marie Evelyn McDowell, known for her unmatched vibrancy, zest for life and “never letting anything stop her in life” left this world on May 20, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Known as Evelyn to her friends, Evelyn was born on August 7th, 1924 to John and Nina Burkley. As a young girl Evelyn moved to Griffin, GA and lived with her grandmother. Her grandfather was a pastor and growing up she learned the value of giving to others. At the age of twelve, Evelyn traveled to New York to see her mother, and it was during this trip that she was captivated by the sights and sounds of the World Fair and discovered her love for travelling and adventure. Soon after she moved to Atlanta, GA where she married her high school sweetheart Donald Walter Glenn and had her four children. Evelyn was a born leader. Throughout her life, Evelyn was determined to participate in and contribute to the communities in which she was immersed and was passionately devoted to. She was involved with many organizations and charities. Evelyn was the president of the Woman’s Club in Atlanta, Washington DC, Parkersburg. WV and Macro Island. She also became Mrs. Dogwood Queen of Atlanta, Georgia. One of her most significant moments of her life was when she met the love of her life her second husband William “Mickey” McDowell who she was married to for almost fifty years. The couple moved to Parkersburg, West Virginia, to purchase a Pepsi Cola bottling Facility. The twelve years they lived there were spent developing longstanding relationships and helping develop local organizations such as the Arts Center and the Woman’s Club of Parkersburg. It wasn’t until Evelyn discovered Marco Island that she truly found her home. Quickly becoming involved, she joined the Marco Island Woman’s Club in 1984, serving as president for two years and is the longest standing member. Evelyn also was deeply involved with the Hideaway Beach Club. Together, Evelyn and Mickey lived an adventure-filed life travelling to every continent on earth, taking dozens of cruises, enjoying numerous safaris and wilderness adventures, and visiting many countries. Their favorite travel destinations were Las Vegas; Hong Kong; Shanghai, China; and Africa. When asked if there was anything else she wanted to accomplish in her life, she said “there isn’t a single thing left to do that I haven’t wanted to do.” In her spare time, Evelyn loved to play bridge where she became a Life Master. She also enjoyed golf, tennis and following and attending her favorite sports team the Washington Redskins. Despite all her accomplishments, when asked what her favorite part of her life was, she simply said “my children.” She is proceeded in death by her husband, grandson Grady Reeves Glenn and survived by her children: Donna Marie Brown and husband Tom; Donald Walter Glenn Jr. and wife Elizabeth; Evelyn Montez Wilson and husband Randy; and Rickard V. Glenn and wife Elke. Also survived by nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Carol was born in Glasgow, Missouri and ultimately attained a Degree in Nursing which she practiced and taught for many years. She also raised four (4) healthy children; Jim, Mark (deceased), Joe (deceased) and Mike. Carol proudly supported their successes in life. Retirement years were highlighted by travel to various States/Territories within the United States and Canada, as well as trips abroad to Ireland and Israel. Carol will be greatly missed by her husband Dean, children; Jim and Mike, daughter in law; Jodi, grandchildren; Nathan, Amanda, Colin and Lauren and great grandson Dexter, as well as a multitude of friends in Naples, Florida and Jackson, Michigan. Carol’s dedication in life was to God and to her family, and she served both with the utmost reverence and grace. She fought Dementia for three plus (3+) years with dignity until both her physical and mental strength deteriorated to the point that life on this planet earth was no longer a priority. May God bless her and hold her in the palm of his hands. Services will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. 5130 Rattlesnake Hammock Rd., Naples, FL 34113 on May 19, 2022 – 10am
