Obituary Preview: Gary Wayne Lane, 72, of Dawson, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at his home.
Gary was born on March 19, 1949, in Springfield, the son of Kenneth C. and Dorothy Elizabeth (Richards) Lane. He attended and graduated from Tri-City High School in 1967. Gary loved hunting, gardening and socializing with his friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Kenneth Lane; and brother-in-law Don Morris.
He is survived by his sister, Linda (Lane) Morris; three children, Heath (Angel), Charles (Jennifer), and Shawn (Bobbi) Lane as well as several grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 8, at 1:00PM at Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home, 200 S. Church St. in Mechanicsburg.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Springfield.

He is survived by his parents, Dorothy (Pagel) and Herb Cole of Mechanicsburg, his wife, Becky Cole of Illiopolis, daughters, Natalie Cole of Illiopolis and Emily VanNote of Mechanicsburg, brothers, David Cole and son Ethan Cole of Springfield, Michael Cole of Athens, sister, Debra (Cole) and George Fleck of Riverton, and many more family members and friends. Alan grew up in Mechanicsburg and moved to Illiopolis with his wife, Becky in 2002. He was a proud husband and father, and a enthusiastic cubs baseball fan. He loved to watch baseball and fish with his family.  There will be a celebration of life held at the mechanicsburg Christian church located at 305 S Church St, Mechanicsburg, IL 62545 on Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at 2pm. Kenneth R Metcalf Jr. - July 17, 1965 - February 15, 2022

Obituary Preview: Kenneth R. Metcalf Jr. 56, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Kenny was born in Springfield, on July 17, 1965, the son of Kenneth and Jean (Mann) Metcalf.
Kenny was a member of the Mechanicsburg Fire Department for 34 years, current president of the Mechanicsburg Fire District Board, 38 year member and former president of the Springfield Ski & Boat Club, member of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, and a member of Mid-West Truckers Association. He enjoyed snowmobiling in Iron County, Wisconsin, boating, watching westerns, and spending time with his family. Kenny was in Law Enforcement for 24 years, was the former police chief of Spalding, and worked his whole life at Metcalf Farms and Transportation.
Kenny is preceded in death by his mother, Jean.
He is survived by his wife, Carla; son Nathanael Metcalf, of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Kayla (Wesley) Copelin, of Springfield; step sons, Asa Thomas (Aubrey) and Carson (Fiancé Nicole Riley) Thomas, both of Ramsey; grandsons Acen and Archer Thomas; father, Kenneth Metcalf Sr., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 20, at Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home, 200 S. Church St. in Mechanicsburg, from 5:00-7:00PM. Funeral Services will be held on Monday at the funeral home at 11:00AM. Burial will follow at Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Allen “Oop” Taft Memorial Fund c/o Mechanicsburg Firemen's Club.

Obituary Preview: Larry R. Watkins, Sr., 78, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehab. Larry was born on May 27, 1943, in Springfield, the son of Elmer Ray and Venetta Fern (Wake) Watkins.
Larry enjoyed racing, snowmobiling, flea markets, and was a real wheeler and dealer. He was an integral part and loved to give back to his community, whether it was through assisting with car shows, town festivals or even putting on the fireworks display each year, which started doing in 1968 before retiring in 2018.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Barbara Jo (Mills); second wife, Karen (Patton) Watkins; two sisters, Jan Lowery and Joyce Bennett; one brother, Lyle Watkins and twin great grandsons Gatlin and Wesson Smith.
He is survived by his two children, Larry (Karen) Watkins II and Melisa Galloway; step-children, Patti (Ron) Beaman, Debi (Robert) Matthews, Lester Edwards, and Bob (Dana) Edwards; brother, LeRoy ( soulmate, Stevie Benedict) Watkins; and sister, Jacquie (Don) Kirby, as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Saturday, February 19 from 10:00AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00PM at South Tower Community Church, 1350 S. Tower Road in Dawson, with Reverend Charlie Carver officiating.
Cremation will be accorded after the service and a graveside service will on July 4, 2022 at 12:00PM at Mechanicsburg Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Elaine L. Miller, 73, of Buffalo, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at her home.
Elaine was born on June 17, 1948, in Springfield, the daughter of Elmer and Esther (Mottershaw) Graham. She married David Miller on December, 21 1985, and he preceded her in death in 2020. Elaine worked as an RN, starting out in Neonatal ICU, then transitioning to early childhood development. Elaine kept in touch over the years with many of the ‘babies’ that she had worked with. She was a member of the Buffalo Hart Presbyterian Church where she was the unofficial photographer. Elaine was incredibly giving, shared many talents with her family and friends, and loved making beautiful personalized quilts for loves ones. Elaine was a great cook and baker and was always willing to jump in at a moment’s notice.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Elaine is survived by her two brothers, George and Frank Graham; her Godson, Zach Kelly; four honorary grandchildren, Hannah, Hunter, Owen and Noah Martin.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 4:00PM until the time of the funeral at 6:00PM at Fullenwider Park Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg. Graveside services will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Virden Cemetery with a Celebration of Life to follow at the American Legion.

Jo Anna aws born on May 13, 1975, in Springfield, the daughter of Fred and Marilyn (Bowman) Rentschler. She graduated from Tri-City High School, Eastern Illinois University and Valparaiso Law School. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred. She is survived by her mother, Marilyn; brother, Frederic "Otto" (Leigh Ann) Rentschler; nephews, Nolan and Frederic Rentschler; niece, Ceeney Rentschler and Duke, her beloved Collie. Jo Anna was many things. She was an avid learner, ingenious, and caring, but above all else she was an amazing Aunt. Jo Anna always made sure that "the kids" always had everything they wanted and needed. She took them on adventures and planned a full week of mailbox surprises leading up to their birthdays. Hours upon hours were spent at the kitchen table working on math and spelling words. The lives of her nephews and niece will forever be better because of the time they were able to spend with her. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Mechanicsburg Cemetery with Pastor Michael Koschmann officiating. John Robert Paul - March 01, 1948 - January 01, 2022

Obituary Preview: John Robert Paul, 73, died on New Year’s Day 2022. He was born on March 1, 1948, in Litchfield, Illinois, the son of Margaret Helen and William Francis Paul, Sr. He spent his childhood on a farm near Raymond, Illinois, and his teen years in Springfield where he graduated from Griffin High School in 1966. He joined the U.S. Army as a helicopter crew chief and served his country in Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service.
Upon return to civilian life, John Robert (Bob) worked at three companies in Springfield, Illinois, until his retirement: Martin Equipment Company, Modern Electric Motor, and Oratech Laboratories. He had an amazing ability to fix things which he accomplished with a keen ability to observe, an attention to detail, and a patience with the process. The places where he worked were not the only beneficiaries of his talents. He was always there for family members and friends who needed help with a car that wouldn’t start or something needing fixing. However, his ability to fix things was not what people remember most about him. His sense of humor, quiet wit, and bad puns were the hallmarks of his personality as well as his kindness and gentle warmth.
John Robert is survived by his wife, Pamela Suzanne of Buffalo, Illinois; his children, Kristopher Adam Paul (Rachel) of St. Louis, Missouri, Katherine Helen Paul of Springfield, Illinois, Angela Michelle Pryer (Matthew) of Springfield, Illinois; his stepson Warren Robert Manker (Katherine) of Naperville, Illinois; his grandchildren Evelyn Jean and Noah Kenneth Paul of St. Louis, Missouri, James Vana, Victoria Kathryn, and Thomas Robert Manker of Naperville, IL; his siblings William Francis Paul (June) of Bonita Springs, Florida, Dorothy Jean Willoughby of Loami, Illinois, and Mary Ann Fenley of Monroe, Georgia; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday, January 7, 2022 at Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg, Illinois, with visitation at 11:30 am, funeral service at 12:30 pm, and burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 2:00 pm. CDC protocol shall be followed. Masks are required.

He married Tina Spencer on May 18, 1983. Bob loved music, animals, working on cars, and most of all spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; sister, Mary Wright; and special cousin Gerard. Bob is survived by his wife, Tina; son, Charlie (Lexie) Patterson; one grandson, Chase Patterson; one brother, Steve (Bonnie) Patterson; two sisters, Pam (Homer) Ealey and Jackie Patterson as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10:00AM until the time of the funeral service at Noon, on Monday, January 3, 2022, with Pastor Ray Spellbrink officiating. Burial will follow at Mechanicsburg Cemetery. The family requests that casual attire be worn.

Deborah married the love of her life of the past 45 years to Dennis M Moore on March 01, 1975, at the Mechanicsburg Christian Church. Deborah was a loving homemaker, wife and grandmother to her 5 grandchildren whom she held closely to her heart and loved dearly. She was known to be an Avid professional Goodwill shopper and shall always be remembered for being caring and compassionate and always put others needs before hers. She had a heart of gold and all whom knew her were blessed with her love and compassion.
She was proceeded in death by her father, George W Speaks, mother Doris E. Byerline; sister Donna Bradshaw, and her twin infant daughters; Michelle Lynn Moore and Dena Marie Moore.
Deborah leaves to cherish her memories: husband Dennis Moore, Son Michael Moore, Daughter Shelly Farley and husband Brian Farley, Son James Moore and wife Maggie Moore and 5 wonderful grandchildren; Emma Farley, Austin Moore, Tiffany Farley, Hannah Moore and Haddie Moore.
A private family visitation will be held Thursday October 28, 2021. A Graveside service will be open to the public on Friday October 29, 2021 at 1:00pm being held at the Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather immediately following the services.

He was born May 14, 1953 to Samuel Verle Davis and Carole Joan (Kitchen) Davis. He attended Tri-City High School, SIU Carbondale, and UIS. He was enlisted in the Air Force and stationed in England.
Sam (Bruce) was a prolific poet, writer, film maker, photographer and artist. He lived life as an adventure, traveling the country as a fortune teller with Renaissance Fairs, interviewing interesting characters on his public radio shows (Flyover Zone and Sam & Danz at Dawn), meeting celebrities at ComicCon events, marching in Steam Punk Parades, baking donuts in Carbondale, enjoying poetry readings with friends, and serving as a staff photographer for the Illinois State Legislature. Sam taught film, art, photography, and English at local community colleges and Benedictine College and worked with the disabled at Brother James Court in Springfield until he was sidelined by health issues. Samb will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and fans.
He is survived by his daughter, Erica Ragan (Dan), mother Joan Davis, brothers Jeff and Pat Davis, sisters Vicki Davis and Terri Davis Anderson (Craig), two uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel V. Davis.
Services will be held Monday, September 27, 2021 at Fullenwider Park Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg, Illinois, with visitation at 10:00, services at 11:30, and burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 1:00. Obituary Preview: In loving memory of Carolyn Frances Pickrell Sundberg who passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 8, 2021 at 3 pm at Wesley Village in Macomb, IL.
Carolyn was born on April 22, 1945 in Springfield, IL to John H. and Carolyn Kenny Pickrell. She was married to Dr. James Allen Sundberg of Rockford, IL on March 2, 1968 and enjoyed 45 years of marriage prior his death in 2013.
Carolyn was a graduate of Tri-City High School in Buffalo, IL. She attended Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign prior to receiving her bachelor’s degree and master’s degrees from Western Illinois University.
Her master’s degree in College Student Personnel led her to 30 years of rewarding service at WIU in the university library working with “her kids”, the student workers. Through the years, she developed many incredible relationships. Her real pride, though, was her family. Strongly loyal to her Pickrell roots, as well as her husband and 2 sons, she found incredible joy in raising children and watching her grandchildren grow.  Her favorite saying was “show ‘em how to do it!”
She reveled in a good historical fiction novel with a strong female lead.  She also loved getting her hands dirty in the garden and bird watching.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers Frank and John.
She is survived by 2 sons:  James Wood Sundberg (wife JoAnne) of Lombard, IL and their 3 children:  Elise (Lisle, IL), Jacob (Saint Charles, MO) and Andrew (Phoenix, AZ) and Brian Christopher Sundberg (wife Dana) of Boulder, CO and their 2 daughters: Lille  and Isabelle (both Boulder, CO) and siblings Joe Pickrell (wife Marilyn) of Buffalo, IL, Elizabeth Ruddie (husband Stan) of Kent Island, MD and David Pickrell (Birmingham, AL).
The Family will host a memorial gathering on Saturday, June 12 at 10 am at Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg and will then proceed to the Pickrell Family Cemetery for burial.

Mary was a U of I graduate, 4H Leader for several years and loved to quilt. She was a member of Buffalo Hart Presbyterian Church, and worked in Pastoral Care at Memorial Medical Center for over 30 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Aaron Patrick Moody; and one sister, Louise Oller.
Mary is survived by her three children, Anita (Terry) Brown, Paul (Jennifer) Moody, and Julie (Jeff) Hatten; six grandchildren, Jeremy Smith, Molly Wozniak, Maggie Wultzen, Andrew, Madeline and Kristyn Moody; four great grandchildren, Quentin Smith, Lydia & Isaac Wultzen and Lucy Wozniak; one sister, Elinor Drake; special cousin Rosemary Moody; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4-7:00PM on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home, 200 S. Church Street, in Mechanicsburg. Bonnie is survived by her son, Gregory William Pickrell, his wife, April Henderson Pickrell; granddaughter Kayla Espinoza; brother, James, his wife Gail, Cravens; sister, Mary Helen, her husband Kenneth Altman; brothers in law Joe, his wife Marilyn, Pickrell, David Pickrell; sisters in law Carolyn Sundberg, Libby, her husband Stan, Ruddie; and several nieces and nephews.

He is survived by sons, Mark (Erin) of Buffalo, Mike (Lori) of Mechanicsburg, and daughter, Cindy Ford (Rick) of Chatham; grandchildren, Megan (Evan) Carls, Garrett Downing, Alyssa (David) Castor, Lindsey Downing, Angie and Mike Ford, and Maggie and Chas Mosley; great-grandchildren, Jack and Charlie Castor; sister, Pat Miers of Decatur; special friend, Sue Allen of Taylorville.
He worked at Borden Chemical for several years and then farmed for over 30 years in the Niantic and Mechanicsburg areas.
David was a US Army veteran serving from May 1958 to April 1960.

Bill was born July 29, 1949 in Springfield IL to Amos “Whitey” and Bettie(Rogers) Marvin. He married Deanna Huff on August 27, 1983.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three infant brothers, Jerry, Jimmy, and Ronnie Marvin.
He is Survived by “His Angel” Deanna, five children Jodi Marvin, Spfld, Sabrah(Rex) Witkamp, Key Largo, FL, Carrie Marvin(Jim Statzer), St. Augustine FL, Eric (Charity) Marvin, Spfld, and Leah (Jon) Frey, Mesa AZ. Six Grandchildren Elise(Sean) Blackwell, Michael Cody, Felix Witkamp, Andrew Frey, William and Eliyanah Marvin. Two Great Grandchildren Gabriella Cody and Madilynn Blackwell. Four siblings Marilyn(David) Ebaugh, Westminster, MD, Bev(Jerry) Mercer, Spfld, Sally(Bill) Fritcher, Rochester, and Sam Marvin, VA, and several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
Bill Graduated from Tri-City High School in 1967, and Lincoln Land Community College in 1981. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service after 27 years as a Computer Specialist.
He was a member of the Carlock Masonic Lodge and a member/Elder of the Mechanicsburg Christian Church. He served on the Tri-City School Board for 19 years in various positions. He was instrumental in starting the girls basketball Co-op with Sangamon Valley and was the High School girls team’s #1 Fan. He also enjoyed helping out in many ways with the music program and the annual Madrigals for 15 years. If you asked him, he would tell you that he bled “Blue and Gold”
He is a member of the National and IL State Horseshoe Pitchers Associations. He has served in various positions for both organizations for over 30 years. He was inducted into the ILSHPA Hall of Fame in 2002. He also received the NHPA President’s award in 2009. He was instrumental in bringing the World Horseshoe Tournament to Springfield, Illinois in 2009 for NHPA’s 100th anniversary.
He was a wonderful Husband, loving Dad, loving Papa, and dear friend to many. He enjoyed debating with others on News Talk 970 WMAY and discussing any subject, on top of politics. He loved spending time with his family, traveling, pitching horseshoes, and making friends wherever he went. He was also one of the biggest St. Louis Cardinals fans around. Visitation: 4:00pm to 7:00pm, Thursday October 8, 2020 at the Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg. Funeral: 10:30am Friday, October 9, 2020 at the Pavilion in the Mechanicsburg Park, weather permitting, otherwise at the Mechanicsburg Christian Church across from the park. David was born on September 30, 1939, in Washington, D.C. to Mary Catherine (Hays) Miller. He graduated from Tri-City High school in 1957 and Rankin Technical Institute of St. Louis, in 1962. David was on the Dawson Fire Protection District Board of Trustees as a Charter Member and a member of the Buffalo Hart Township Board of Trustees. He was also a member of Carlock Masonic Lodge 904, Master twice at Dawson 556, a 50 year member and District Deputy Grand Master; a member of the Legion of Honor, Dad Advisor, Chevalier, Flower City Eastern Star 152 and was Worth Patron twice with 50 year membership, a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Springfield, a 50 year member of Ansar Shrine and member of the Hospital Group.
He enjoyed flying and had his pilot’s license and his own plane and was a member at Buffalo Hart Presbyterian Church.
David was preceded in death by his mother.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine and his brother, Donald G. (Bertha) Miller of Buffalo, as well as his Uncle, Gordon Miller of Springfield, and Godson, Zachary Kelly; one niece and nephew and several cousins.
Visitation will be on Thursday, October 1, 2020 from 4:00-6:00PM, with Masonic Rites beginning at 6:00, at Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home, 200 South Church Street, in Mechanicsburg. Funeral with limited attendance will be at 10:00AM on Friday, October 2, at the funeral home with Reverend Sarah Iliff-McGill officiating. Burial will follow at Virden Cemetery. He married his wife Linda on February 14th, 1959. Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bob Morris, and sisters, Jean and Katherine.
Don is fondly remembered for his many interests. Over the years, Don was a basketball player, farmer, builder, contractor, pilot, and also sung in a barbershop quartet.
Don is survived by Linda, his wife of sixty one years and also by his four children, Pam Morris of Warrenton, Va., Diane Hanscom of Andover, MA,  Brian Morris of Capetown, South Africa, and Becky Montgomery, also of Buffalo, Il. Don had ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at Mechanicsburg cemetery on Saturday, September 5th, at 3:00 PM. For the service, COVID-19 guidance will be followed, requiring face coverings and social distancing.

Gary was the son of James and Geraldine (Womack) Bass. He married Dianne (Daly) in 1960. Gary and Dianne were married for 42 years and had four children (Cindy, Tim, Amy, and Matt). Dianne died in 2003. Gary married Helen Carnduff in 2007
Rev. Bass was a retired United Methodist Minister. He graduated from Peoria High School, MacMurray College in Jacksonville, and Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston. Gary served many churches throughout his life. He began as a student pastor in Camden and Huntsville Churches. During his career, he served the following churches: Peoria First UMC, Laura UMC, Bowen UMC, Morton UMC, Rushville UMC, Grace UMC (Urbana), and Monticello UMC. Gary also served as a counselor on the Conference Counsel on Ministries for 6 years and served as district Superintendent of the Galesburg District from 1986 to 1992. Gary retired from the ministry after serving 42 years. After his retirement, he continued to serve at Sugar Creek UMC. Gary spent his retirement focusing on his hobby of working with pottery. He took classes at the University of Illinois, and also at the Springfield Art Association. What he loved most was being “Papa” to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Bass; two sons, Tim (wife, Nancy) Bass of Dawson, and Matthew Bass of Phoenix; two daughters, Cindy (husband, Scott) Murphy of Rochester, and Amy (husband, Scott) Grant of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Nicholas (Laverne) Murphy, Emily Murphy, Audrey Murphy, Zachary Grant, Christopher Grant, Joshua Grant, Christa Bass, and Allison Bass; two great grandchildren, Kayden and Liam Murphy; three sisters, Gaye Nieukirk of Chillicothe, Connie Barton of Peoria, and Pat (husband, Dave) Finn of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm – 7:00pm on Friday August 21 at Laurel United Methodist Church 631 S Grand Ave W, Springfield, IL 62704. A private funeral for family will be on Saturday, August 22 at Laurel United Methodist Church followed by a graveside service at 3:00pm at the Rushville City Cemetery.

In addition to her husband, Richard, she is survived by her daughter, Julie (Mark) Shelby of Sherman; son, Jason (Pam) Coe of Illiopolis; brother, John (Nicki) Jones of Temple, TX; grandchildren Eric Reed of Springfield, Ashley Reed of Sherman, and Eston Coe of Illiopolis; along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Louie also served in the United States Army from 1961-1964, earning the Soldier's Medal of Honor. He was an avid Cubs fan and bingo player and enjoyed playing cards, camping, going to auctions and raising and showing Quarter Horses. He was a man loved by everyone. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alma Mae Brodie; and son, Lewis R. Ashton, JR. Louie is survived by his wife, Peggy; three daughters, Shelley (Wayne) Howard, Robin (Greg) Ashton-Hale and Suzy Ashton; family friend, Terri Courtwright; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Carl Ashton; one sister, Loleta Hutson, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Carlene. Linda is survived by her siblings, Dolores Graham, Diana (John) Moffett, Juanita (Raymond) Ball and Dennis (Darcy) Barnes as well as many nephews and nieces. Cremation will be accorded by Park Funeral Homes. Grave side services will be held at a later date with burial at Mechanicsburg cemetery.
