Bobby was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 29, 1961, to Alice and Robert Shesterkin, the second of four children, brother of Kathleen, Mary, and John.
Bobby was handsome, joyful, loving, sweet, and affectionate. Born with Down’s Syndrome, he was an angel in our midst, a brilliant light in our lives, and a blessing to all of us. His infectious smile that lit up the room, his happy and boisterous “Hi” and extension of his hand that he never failed to greet you with, his gentle, loving disposition, keen sense of silliness, and spontaneous outbursts of laughter were all hallmarks of Bobby’s marvelous personality. Bobby also had a very special love for Frank Sinatra’s music; a love that was passed down from his beloved dad. Hearing Frank sing was one of the greatest joys of Bobby’s life.

Fai's life was marked by resilience and determination, rooted in his upbringing in a rural village in Guangzhou, China. In Hong Kong, Fai's academic excellence paved the way for a bright future. He excelled in prestigious English-speaking Chinese high schools and formed significant relationships, including mentoring a future cousin of his beloved wife of 58 years. His journey eventually led him to the United States, where he pursued a bachelor’s degree in physics from Michigan State University before embarking on a PhD program at the University of Minnesota.
Fai's professional career flourished when he joined Ford Motor Company, where he initially worked in the Scientific Laboratories, focusing on the development of laser technology. While supporting his growing family, he earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from Wayne State University. His pioneering work in developing the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) system earned him recognition as the "grandfather" of this vital technology, which continues to play a crucial role in managing engine controls for safety, emissions, and fuel economy compliance.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Fai was a devoted family man who cherished his time with loved ones. Despite his demanding schedule, he found solace in intellectual pursuits, particularly enjoying the works of Carl Sagan and the intricate paintings of M.C. Escher.
In keeping with his private nature, there will be no public memorial service held for Fai. However, donations to the Alzheimer's Association in his honor are encouraged, reflecting his commitment to supporting important causes even beyond his lifetime. Fai's legacy lives on through the impact he made on those who knew and loved him, as well as his lasting contributions to science and engineering.

Carolyn Mae Tarzia - May 13, 1933 - March 10, 2024

Departed: 03/10/2024 (South Lyon)
Obituary Preview: Carolyn Mae (Lentz) Tarzia 05/13/1933 – 03/10/2024 Ann Arbor, Michigan
Carolyn Tarzia passed away on March 10, 2024, at the age of 90. After a brief time under Hospice care, she died quietly at home with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. Her husband, Frank Tarzia, her parents, and brother preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Tarzia (John Dixon) and her sister Mary Ann Marks. Carolyn holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in viola performance and Music (“String specialist”) Education from the University of Michigan where she was invited and inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, America’s most prestigious academic honor society for liberal arts and sciences.
After teaching in Muskegon, MI and in Heidelberg, Germany for the US Military schools where she met her future husband, Frank, Carolyn returned to Ann Arbor. She joined the Ann Arbor Public Schools Instrumental Music department and dedicated herself to the future and success of the children and Ann Arbor. In May, 2004 one of the high schools established the Carolyn Tarzia Private Music Lesson Scholarship fund in her honor. Its purpose was to provide financial support for Pioneer Orchestra students private lessons. Recipients demonstrate some of the same personal qualities Carolyn exhibited throughout her lifetime: drive for excellence, empathy for others, constructive attitude, perseverance, patience, support of the orchestra program and its tradition of excellence. Carolyn was most proud of this honor as it carried with it her belief that ‘every child can’ if given the right tools, opportunity, and guidance. This fund continues to award deserving string students today.
Carolyn was a member of the viola section of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra for 49 years and the Adrian Symphony for 27. In both she was a proud member of the chamber ensembles that traveled to area schools bringing joy and musical inspiration to local school children.
Carolyn spent 46 summers on the string faculty of the New England Music Camp in Maine. Early in her tenure there she established a Chamber Music program where none had previously existed, and her legacy is still alive today with the continuation of that ever-expanding and flourishing program.
In addition to teaching in the public schools, Carolyn taught private violin and viola students for 5 decades out of her home. Carolyn and Frank loved to travel. They visited many countries and especially looked forward to winter vacations in Zermatt, Switzerland, many times with Lisa and with friends. She loved to swim and to ski. Together with Frank she spent 58 summers in Maine where she swam almost daily and watched the sun set over Lake Messalonskee.
She loved attending concerts and University of Michigan football games. She and Frank had season tickets at The Big House for over 50 years and she was a nearly 70-year patron of and subscriber to the University (of Michigan) Musical Society and delighted in the thousands of international orchestral, chamber, and solo artists they brought to Ann Arbor’s Hill Auditorium. There will be a celebration of Carolyn’s life on Sunday, May 19, in the Ingram Theater at Huron High School 2727 Fuller Rd., Ann Arbor, MI. Visitation 12 – 2:00 PM. At 2:00 PM we will share Reflections on Carolyn’s life and all are welcome to speak. If you are a string player who studied with, performed with, learned from, or was in any other way connected with Carolyn, please bring your instrument. To end the celebration, we will form a string orchestra and sightread something beautiful she loved and something joyful. Titles are to be determined. In lieu of any flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to either the Carolyn Tarzia Private Music Lesson Scholarship fund https://pioneerorchestras.squarespace.com/lessonscholarships or the University of Michigan’s University Musical Society https://ums.org/support/individual-giving/
