In loving memory of Marilyn Elizabeth Carter-Henry, 72 of Green Cove Springs, FL, tragically passed away on July 24, 2023, after courageously fighting a long illness. It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts we bid farewell for now.

Anyone that knew Marilyn, knew a beautiful soul, always willing to help anyone in need, a loyal friend to the end, that would fiercely defend what was right. She was an extremely hard worker that always made certain her family would not go without. Marilyn was raised in Jacksonville, FL and attended Robert E Lee High School, she later moved to Montrose Michigan to raise her son. She was affectionately called Ma by many and loved by all who knew her. To further prove her tenacity, she vowed not to let her 15 yo son at the time, graduate high school before she did, and returned to school while working 2 jobs and graduated from Hill McCloy High School in 1984-Montrose, MI. She later advanced her studies to follow her mother’s career into the medical field of nursing and retired as a CNA in Orange Park, FL. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, talking to and about her granddaughter, anytime spent at the beach, her lovely plants and beautiful flowers, nature, her cats and all wildlife-sans snakes and lizards.

Marilyn is predeceased by her Mother Jeanette Laws, brother Junior Carter, and husband Gerald Henry. She leaves behind her loving family; her son Ken Godwin Jr. and his wife Suzanne, granddaughter Morgan Godwin, two step-grandsons Logan and Antonio Vendola, great grandson Tatum Vendola, brother Thomas Carter, sister Jo Searles, brother Bobby Laws, her loving boyfriend Paul Walker who cared for her relentlessly day and night through these difficult times, several Nieces and Nephews, and many friends that will miss her dearly.

I will find peace in knowing you went home to Jesus with open arms to be with the Lord, I will celebrate and rejoice in your life well lived and remember everything you have taught me with your heart and mind, until we meet again, I love you Ma.

Sadly, on Sunday, July 23, 2023 passed away in Jacksonville after an extended illness. He was looking so young and handsome and was surrounded by loved ones, his wife of 51 years, Betty Gladden Andrews aka Lois Lane. Also with him was his youngest son, Perry Andrews, aka Daddy boy, of Jacksonville, his favorite daughter, Donita Andrews Freeman and his favorite son-in-law, both from Swainsboro, Georgia, and his nephew Bobby Pittman of Jacksonville.

Malcolm Andrews was born on February 27, 1940 to Jim Jefferson Andrews and Donnie Tyre Andrews (deceased) in Providence, Florida and grew up in Lake Butler, Florida.

He was 1 of 13 siblings, he was number 7 in birth order. His siblings are: Mildred Andrews King (Willie-both deceased), Meme Andrews Morgan (John-both deceased), James Andrews (Bobbie), Frank Andrews (Joan-both deceased), Bobby Andrews (deceased) Betty Zimmerman, Neva Andrews (deceased), Perry Andrews (Emmie-both deceased), Ken Andrews (deceased), RL (deceased) Albert Andrews, Alvin Andrews, RL Moore (deceased).

He left behind an amazing wife, Betty Gladden Andrews, three children, Malcolm (Jeanetta) Andrews, Jr. of Georgia, Donita Andrews Freeman (Andy), of Swainsboro Georgia, Perry Andrews (Sarah) of Jacksonville, 15 grandchildren, Laura Andrews , William (Leeda) Andrews, Emma (Mike) Griggs, Sarah (Alex) Spasov, Hannah Andrews, Matthew Andrews, Felicity Andrews, Rebecca Andrews, James Andrews, Faith Andrews, Stephen Andrews, Brent Freeman (Julie) of Garfield, Georgia, Cory Freeman (Kristen) of Twin City, Georgia , Mary Andrews, Aden Gibbs and 8 great grandchildren, Renae Andrews, Natalya Andrews, Jamilllah Douglas, Lexi Freeman, Chloe Freeman, Rosie Freeman, Julie Freeman and Sam Freeman. He left behind brothers, Albert Andrews, Alvin (Loraine) Andrews, sister Betty Zimmerman, and many, many nephews and nieces and more friends than we can count.

He joined the navy when he was 17 and served 3 years and was honorably discharged and he served in the army as a paratrooper, with the 82nd Airborne for 3 years and was honorably discharged.

God sent him his soul mate, Betty Gladden Andrews, to him in 1971. They knew each other for 3 months and would have celebrated 52 years this September. He would tell people that after he met her, he had been Gladdened ever since they met.

He was a Jack of all trades, military, carpenter, pile driver, car salesman. He was a natural born salesman. He loved the art of wheeling and dealing. He was a business owner, he owned and operated with his brother Perry, Andrews Brothers Car Sales. He owned and operated A's Cards & Comics, a comic book and memorabilia store on the Westside with his son, Perry.

He will be forever remembered for many things, he could never pass up a good estate sale, yard sale or flea market. He was a jokester. He was always smiling and laughing and making others smile and laugh. He loved singing. He was a fan of many artists, but Creedence Clearwater was his favorite.

He had a kind and compassionate heart. He was always ready to help others. He was just a phone call away. He loved his family and friends big!! He was loyal to his family and friends.

He loved to tell stories, especially the story when he had to try to cover Bob Hayes, at the time The World's Fastest Man, in a pickup football game. He was the life of the party. He loved life.

Obituary Preview: Charles Cato, 82, of Jacksonville, FL gained his Angel Wings the early morning hours of July 19, 2023, after a courageous battle. He was born in Coffee County, GA to Henry and Nancy Cato on December 28, 1940. He was raised on a family farm in South Georgia until he moved to Jacksonville in early 1963.

Charles was employed by Bob’s Barricades and Fire Fighter’s Equipment Company along with being a man of many talents and skills. He was not one to sit around all day. He needed to be busy helping others every day until his illness overtook his health. At the end of his day, he rested well because he truly lived a life of service to others.

He was a proud man. A little strong-will and stubborn (at times), but he also had an enormous heart of gold and sense of pride. He was generous, loving, loyal, dedicated and strong. During his final days, he wished he would have studied more in school and furthered his education. But in reality, he was smarter than he realized. He was clever and filled with life experiences, excellent mechanic, innovator, professional fire system installer, carpenter, and gardener. He could repair anything mechanical.

Charles will be remembered for his generous share of service for his family, friends and church. He truly loved each of them – and if you knew him, you felt his love. When the time came to move to his Heavenly Home, he fought valiantly with strength, dignity and love for those that went before him. Now, he has a new set of eyes to see and lungs to breathe in paradise. He will be terribly missed by all who loved him.

He was a faithful member of Hope for Life Baptist Church, and his ministry was dedicated to service at the church and its members. Chuck’s family deeply thanks and appreciates his church members for the support, prayers and love shared during this difficult time.

He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Nancy Cato, and siblings, Otis Cato, Brenda Hamontree and Myrtle Bohannon and spouse, LuAnne Cato. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Cynthia Connelly-Paxton (Keith), Donna Britton, his siblings, Gladys Walker, Raymond Cato and Joann Roberson, plus LuAnne’s children, Tony, Brenda, Tommy and Cindy. Grandchildren, Holly Serrano (Frankie), Brandi Britton, Ridge Britton and Trey Britton. Great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Jordyn, Dominic and Maverick. Plus, many nieces and nephews, along with his daily feline companion, Cookie.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Hope for Life Baptist Church, 7725 Ramona Blvd W, Jacksonville, FL 32221. Visitation commences at 11am with the service at 12pm, followed by a graveside service at Riverside Memorial Park. Guests are invited to fellowship after the service at the church.

As she embarks on her journey to heaven, she reunites with her brother Billy, her dad, mother Iona, and brother-in-law Harry. Their spirits will live on in eternal peace in heaven. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her kindness, love, and the lasting impact she made on those around her. Heather was preceded in death by her father James Mark McGehee. She leaves behind her mother Brenda {Swindall} McGehee. She also leaves behind her three beloved children, Samantha McGehee, Mikayla Sheppard and Christian Sheppard.

She leaves behind her sister, Tammy (Greg) Sikes and their four children, her stepmom Gina McGehee, and her bonus mom Phyllis Johnson, and a host of Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends.

He was born in Denver, Colorado on October 28, 1950 and was the son to the late Robert Paul Beck and Shirley (Smith) Beck. He graduated in 1969 from S.H. Rider High School in Wichita Falls, TX and enlisted in the United Stated Navy. He retired in 1997, after 27 years of service, as a Command Master Chief Petty Officer. His final tour was with HS-5 “Nightdippers” as a Maintenance Master Chief at NAS Jacksonville.

He had a very distinguished career marked with multiple tours and numerous decorations, medals and badges. After retirement, he enjoyed Gator football and softball, NASCAR, collecting coins and taking great pride in keeping up with his yard.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley (Smith) Beck; his children Melissa (JE) Padgett and Bradley (Michelle) Beck; his grandchildren, Hunter, Colton and Aubrey Padgett and Lauren and Lydia Beck.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara “BB” Beck and his daughter, Laura Beck.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, July 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 at Fraser Funeral Home (8168 Normandy Blvd). Interment will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery on July 18 at 2pm.

Obituary Preview: I am sad to announce the passing of Glenn Ephram Pitts. Glenn had the last day of his 97 years on June 28, 2023. Glenn was born in McRae, Georgia on October 28, 1925 to Mannie & Sarah Pitts. Glenn had seven brothers and sisters and is survived by only his sister, Isabel Brooks. Glenn left school in the eighth grade to go to work to help support his family during the Great Depression. Glenn worked throughout the Southeast until he joined the Army after turning 18. Glenn served with distinction winning numerous awards including two bronze stars and was inducted into The French Legion of Honor, the highest award given by the French Government.

Upon returning from Europe Glenn settled in Jacksonville, Florida where he spent the next 77 years growing, caring for, nurturing and protecting his beloved family. Glenn spent 54 years married, first to Marie Goins for 25 years and then to Ruth A Pitts for 29 more before she passed in 2003. Glenn had three beloved sons with Marie, Glenn (Speedy) M Pitts, Stanley Allen Pitts, and Wayne Pitts. With Ruth, Glenn finally became Father to a daughter, Susan Wallace.

Glenn is survived by 5 Grandchildren, Glenn M. Pitts Jr., Stanley A. Pitts Jr., Melissa Pitts / Thiem, Joe Ryan Pitts & Brock Wallace and 4 Great Grandchildren, Blake Thiem, Brett Thiem, Jase Thiem & Beau Wallace.

Along with Family Glenn's life was defined by hard work. After returning home from Europe, he landed a job working for New York Laundry where he worked his way up to plant Superintendent. After leaving the laundry Glenn started Pitts Construction while also dabbling in the car business, eventually opening a Car Lot. Throughout his time in the construction and car industry Glenn was also buying up properties in the Jacksonville area. He turned these properties into rentals and around 1980 he began acting as a full-time property manager.

Over the next 40 plus years he amassed many properties at one point owning a good amount of them, as he probably owned some we didn’t even know about. Haha! It was as a Rental Property Owner that Glenn truly found his calling. He not only acted as property manager, renting out the units and collecting rents, but also handling the maintenance on his own. Glenn lived a long, wonderful life filled with Love and surrounded by family. Up until the last three months of his life he was healthy and continued to work and handle his property management business. He had an active driver's license on his last day and probably would have been driving if not for the fact his family was constantly begging him not to.

Please join us for the viewing of Mr. Glenn Ephram Pitts on July 5, 2023, at Fraser Funeral Home on Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida and for Memorial services July 6, 2023 at 12 Noon in the chapel and then graveside.

Sue retired from Peninsular Insurance Company. She was an active member at Murray Hill Church, the Navy Wives Club, Lakeshore Woman’s Club, Riverside Garden Club, Republican Club and the Elvis Club. Her and Jim were involved with Campers on Mission.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, James Earl Bradstreet and Simon Smith, parents John and Bertha Cornett, brother Bob Cornett and sister Faye Jenkins. She is survived by her sister, Jeanne Hancock, son’s, Larry Bradstreet, Mike (Gail) Bradstreet and Steve (Rhonda) Bradstreet, four grandchildren, Eric (Jen) Bradstreet, Jessica (Will) Gibson, Wayne (Casey) Bradstreet, Kristin (Sergio) Garcia, and four great grandchildren, Reagan and Eli Bradstreet, Sergio Robert and Carolina Garcia and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

The Visitation will be held on Monday, July 3rd at 1:00 PM with the Celebration of Life Service being held at 2:00 PM at Murray Hill Church, 4300 Post Street, Jacksonville, Florida with Pastor Doug Axtell officiating.

She is predeceased by husband of 62 years, John, oldest son Terry, grandson John Michael, Sister Frances Aaron. Her sister Christine Dunaway joined her in heaven the same day.

Survived by daughters Diane Jarriel, Brenda Zingaro (Joe), Sam Bryan (John), son Leslie (Stacey), granddaughters Gina Knight (Rex), Erin Millush (Sean), Sierra Jarriel, grandson Scott Jarriel (Julia), great grandsons Davis Leader, John Millush, Nathanael Knight and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joanne Meredith Lindsey, 87, of Keystone Heights, Florida passed away in Phoenix, Arizona the morning of June 26th, 2023, with family at her side. She was born on March 22, 1936, in West Palm Beach, Florida and was the eldest of three daughters. Her parents were James J. and Mildred H. Meredith.

Joanne graduated from Boone High School in Orlando, FL in 1954. She attended the University of Florida, where she met her husband Raymond E. Lindsey. They were married in December 1957 and raised three daughters together. She could always calm a worry, provide guidance on a problem, and find laughter in the absurd. She was an inspiration not only to her daughters but to many.

Joanne earned her undergraduate degree from Our Lady of Angels College (now Neumann College) in 1975 and a J.D. from Temple University in 1978. Joanne's intelligence and drive led her to a successful legal career. First, working for a large marine contractor and then as co-founder and first president of a commercial diving company, both in Philadelphia, PA. Joanne later entered academia where she became Assistant Dean of Admissions at Widener School of Law, while teaching Construction Law and Government Contracts. In 1996, she became the first Associate Dean and a founding faculty member at Chapman University's School of Law in Orange County, California.

Joanne retired and returned to Florida in 2000, to enjoy libations on the dock with her husband, Ray. She also enjoyed Kentucky Derby parties with Tim and Debra and solving the "problems of the world" with Jody. She continued to travel and spend time with family and friends, all while cheering on the Florida Gators.

Joanne was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years Raymond E. Lindsey. She is survived by her three daughters Meredith Lindsey (husband David Kloss) of Wadena, Minnesota, Lorraine Rose (husband Jared Rose) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jennifer Lindsey (husband Scott Sharp) of Morgantown, Pennsylvania. Known and loved as Grandma Sport, she is survived by her twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren who she rocked, walked, and loved unconditionally. Joanne, founding member of the three J's, is also survived by her sisters Janice Travis, June Summers, and families.

Joanne will be remembered and missed for her independence, engaging political discussions, and calming advice, all with a beautiful smile and twinkle in her eye.

Robert had a deep love and devotion to his family. He enjoyed family gatherings where he would see his grandchildren and great-grandchildren mature and grow physically and spiritually. Because of the profession of faith of each one, the reunion in Heaven will be complete.

Robert’s love for his Savior was the foundation and guide for his life. His decisions were always based on what the Word of God said. His actions aligned with Scripture, and his example was one to follow. As the patriarch of the family, he instilled in his children the importance of their relationship with Christ. He was truly a Godly man who loved the Lord with all his heart and lived what he believed.

Robert Delmas Hewett is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his eldest son, Michael Hewett. He is survived by his wife, Frances Hewett, a son, Rickie Hewett, his daughter, LeDale Southerland, four grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 11:00 at Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd, and the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A private, family interment will be in Jones Cemetery, Callahan, Florida.

After graduating from McKee Technical High School in 1956 he joined the Inter-national Board of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 3, and was with them until his retirement in 1997. In 1966, he married his wife, Linda (now deceased) of Staten Island, New York and in 1967, moved to Sayreville, New Jersey. He served his country (Navy) from 1954 to 1962. He was very active in the New Jersey State Elks Association which he joined in 1977. Ken also joined the Masons in 1997 and became a member of the Morocco Shriners, and the Scottish Rite in 1998 obtaining his 33rd Degree. He was also a member of the South Amboy Elks Lodge #294 in New Jersey (formally Sayreville Lodge #5525), the American Legion Post #9, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4699, and Oceanview Lodge #408.

His love of fishing brought him and some friends to Perth, Ontario, Canada. He so loved the area, that he purchased a lot on Otty Lake in Perth and eventually built a cottage there. Each spring, summer, fall, and on occasion, winter, he enjoyed all the amenities of the Lake, especially the fishing, the snowmobiling, and the peace, beauty, and solitude of the Lake. After 50+ years of enjoyment, he sold the cottage and made Florida his year-round home.

He was active in his church, both in New Jersey and in Florida. He also was a Member of the Model A Ford Club of New Jersey, the Nutty Buddy’s RV Club, and the First Coast Miata Club of Northeast Florida. In his spare time, he enjoyed cruising, fishing, RVing, antique cars, woodworking, cooking, and Model HO trains.

He is survived by his brother, Alvin, of Warwick, New York, one nephew, five nieces and many good friends. He will be cremated and, per his wishes, his ashes will be placed in his niche at Elmwood Cemetery in Perth, Ontario, his beloved second home. Cremation arrangements are being handled by Fraser Funeral Home in Jacksonville and the Neptune Society with a Memorial Service to be held at a later date.
