Dershan Grover - May 24, 1938 - March 16, 2022

Departed: 03/16/2022 (Ewing)
Obituary Preview: The world lost an amazing mother, grandmother, daadi massi, sister, didi, godmother, auntie, massi, mamiji, friend, and a true matriarch when Dershan Grover (nee, Guliani) passed March 16, 2022 surrounded by her family in NJ after an illness. She is survived by her sisters, her son  Alok M. Grover and his wife Namrata Grover, her daughter Bhana Grover and her husband Alexander Gizis, and her five grandchildren.
Dershan Grover described herself as having three chapters of her life. She was born in Shimla, India, in 1938, the third girl in a family of four girls. Her father and mother encouraged all of their children to be progressive, independent and fostered their love of education. She received a master's degree in history and became a teacher in New Delhi, India in 1962 after her marriage.
In her second chapter, Dershan and her late husband (Yudhishtar Grover) immigrated with their children to Silver Spring, Maryland in the early 1970s. Her goal was to work hard and capture the ‘American Dream’ for herself and her children. Even though Dershan was not accustomed to the American holidays such as Thanksgiving, she learned how to cook turkey, always with a dash of cumin, and loved celebrating Christmas with its beauty of the season. The family moved to Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1973, where she truly became a part of a community. She worked at First National Bank of West Chester and embraced her life by learning how to drive and marching in walkathons for causes she supported.
In 1980, Dershan’s husband passed but it did not stop her love for adventure and living life to the fullest. She found joy in traveling with her friend Richard McHugh, hiking and exploring the United States. Even though they loved trying new restaurants, the Cracker Barrel breakfast was always their favorite.
In her third chapter, Dershan moved to Philadelphia. For the past twenty-plus years, she lived in Center City, Philadelphia. Not ready to fully retire, Dershan helped small businesses with their books from Rosie’s Yarn shop to skating shops and CCCC. She would love to walk in the city and enjoy meeting people at Washington Square Park. Dershan and her friends had their weekly yoga classes followed by their famous lunches. She attended all her grandchildren’s piano recitals, basketball games, cross country meets, and school events. When she went to visit India, she often brought her friends and enjoyed being their tour guide.
In September 2021, Dershan attended her oldest grandchild’s wedding. Dershan radiated her love for family and all her blessings by her smile and enjoyment of the festivities. Dershan will be missed by countless people she touched with her wit, motherly advice, gifts of her handmade knitted hats and baby blankets, and clipped coupons! Thank you for being amazing mother, grandmother, daadi massi, sister, didi, godmother, auntie, massi, mamiji and friend, you were our light.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Dershan Grover touched are invited to celebrate her life at the Duffield Room at Old Pine Church, Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, March 26th at 2 pm.

Patricia J Kenney - July 08, 1930 - March 06, 2022

Departed: 03/06/2022 (Ewing)
Obituary Preview: Patricia Joan Kenney, age 91, of Plainsboro, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, March 6th in her home. She was born on July 8th, 1930, in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late William H. Kenney and Fern Eleanor Newburg Kenney. She grew up and graduated from Teaneck High School in Teaneck, NJ.
She was the ex-wife of the late Professor John G. Taylor of London, UK, and previously resided in Oxford, UK, while raising her four children. She was the loving mother of Geoffrey Taylor (Xanthe Sturt Taylor) of Yarnton, Kidlington, UK, Frances Taylor (Keith Costa) of Madison, CT, Robin Taylor of Plainsboro, NJ and Susan Taylor (Zane Shellenbarger) of Ewing, NJ. She was the very proud grandmother of Imogen Taylor, Matthew Taylor, Ryan Costa, Emily Costa, Caitlin Costa, Nicole Shellenbarger and Daniel Shellenbarger.
She is also survived by her brother William W. Kenney (Peggy Kenney) of Plymouth, MA, whom she adored as her special “little brother.” She was predeceased by her older sister Frances Fay Hanson of Hamden, CT. She was also known as “Aunt Pat” to her nephew Trevor Hanson and her nieces Lesley Hanson, Stephanie Thorne and Stacy Ashton. She was the great Aunt Pat to Robert Hanson, Nola Thorne, Sienna Thorne, Alexis Ashton, Luke Ashton and Kate Ashton.
Pat was passionate about life from a young age. She wrote, directed, produced and acted in middle school plays. She became President of the student council in ninth Grade. She also was a cheerleader and was selected as one of four candidates for the Prom queen of Teaneck High School. She continued her love of the dramatic arts with John when they co-wrote and were leading actors in plays that were performed both at Princeton University and Cambridge  University. Pat was always a keen academic student. She had begun her BA studies at Columbia University in NYC, majoring in philosophy. In 1975 she obtained a Certificate of Studies in Counseling from the University of Oxford Department for Continuing Education as well as an extension course at London University. In 1976 she was accepted to St. Anne’s College, Oxford University; graduating in 1979 with a MA in Experimental Psychology (the same year as her divorce was granted). She also was active as a Samaritan (suicide counselor) in Oxford. After returning to the USA, she pursued a PhD in Clinical Psychology at the New School in NYC. In her later years she even taught a psychology course on the MInd at the Princeton Senior Resource Center in Princeton!
Pat was very sociable and always loved a good party! During her married life in Princeton, while Professor John G.Taylor taught at the Institute for Advanced Studies, she organized parties known locally as ‘Pat’s Friday Night Soirées,’ which were THE place to be! She was a brilliant conversationalist, intellectually curious, and always loved to laugh. Her friends always said how much fun Pat was to be with, full of life and personality and such a sweet person.
Music was always a part of Pat’s life, since her mother had been a concert pianist and loved classical music (listening and composing). She even wrote songs about each grandchild capturing their unique spirit. Her composition “ The Rose” has become a family standard. She read a vast array of topics within the field of psychology and some philosophy while keeping current and involved with politics and the news. She was also a passionate tennis fan, watching all the tournaments (both major and minor) and especially would always follow her favorite tennis player, Rafael Nadal.
Above all, Pat loved her family and being a mother. She created a wonderful home and life in Oxford, England for her four children whom she loved dearly. She cherished the idyllic world of parks, beautiful English flowers, punting on the River Cherwell, classical music and the British culture where she would raise her children. Her children look back with great fondness on their childhood. Additionally, she always had amazing childhood stories to share about her wonderful uncles back in the United States who made life there seem so exciting and fun. She spoke about the great snow storms that were so foreign to her children in England which captured their imaginations.
She was also greatly proud of her Swedish background and quite often lived up to her very Irish Kenney spirit! She would always stand up for the underdog and even fought with her fists as a young girl to stand up for a child who was being bullied at the time. She was a force to be reckoned with and loved by all who knew her.
Pat’s family, in particular, her son, Robin, her caregiver, would like to extend heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all their close friends, work colleagues and extended family members. In particular they would like to thank Penn Medicine Home Care and Hospice team members for all their critical help and wonderful support over the last couple of years during her period of declining health.

Hilton L Anderson - July 16, 1927 - August 22, 2021

Departed: 08/22/2021 (Ewing)
Obituary Preview: Dr. Hilton L. Anderson July 17, 1927-August 22, 2021
Hilton L. Anderson passed peacefully at his home in Montgomery, NJ at the age of 94.  Affectionately known as Hil, he graduated from North Plainfield High School and was quickly drafted into WWII where he served briefly as a med tech in the US army.  Using the GI bill he attended Rutgers University, where he met the love of his life Lorraine.  They were married in 1952 and enjoyed 64 years together before her passing in 2017.  Hil also obtained his PhD in psychology from Rutgers in 1969.  Prior to completing his PhD, Hil worked in the insurance and medical fields.  At Rutgers his PhD advisor suggested a career in a brand-new field, School Psychology.  This was the perfect fit for Hil, and he spent the majority of his 25-year career with the Princeton Regional School district as their school psychologist. Hilton served as president of the NJ School Psychologist's Association in 1974 along with serving on the board of education for the West Windsor-Plainsboro School District for three years through 1977.
After retiring in 1988 Hil & Lorraine spent over 30 summers in their log cabin on Watson Pond in Belgrade Lakes, Maine.  Every July & August they enjoyed visits from their children and grandchildren; to Hil it was heaven on earth.  Hil loved to swim in the pond, read and watch the birds from his rocking chair on the corner of the porch.  Hil was an avid swimmer, continuing the sport three times a week until the COVID quarantine closed the pool at his Stonebridge community.
Hil loved to travel, and with Lorraine, he visited every state in the US along with numerous countries.  In the early years travel was camping with the kids, accomplishing several cross-country trips during the summer months.  Later in life travel was international with just the two of them.
Hil loved to read and write, with a focus on the mind and spirituality.  After retiring he wrote (7) books, two of which were books of poetry.  Hil was well known for reading a poem at all special occasions.  One of the hardest things he had to do when moving to Stonebridge was giving away most of his book collection due to space limitations.
Both Hil and Lorraine were long-term members of the Unitarian Church of Princeton.  Hil started, and led, A Course of Miracles discussion group for over 40 years.  During these group discussions he read his poems and talked of the greatness of Peace and Love; his mantra was “Peace is Oneness”.
Hilton is survived by his sister Wynne Sumner, his three (3) children David Anderson (Stacey Anderson), Lynn Barclay (David Barclay) & Jean Anderson (William Brantley), his seven (7) grandchildren Amanda Barclay Witkowski, Cynthia Barclay Camponelli, Rebecca Barclay, Zachary Anderson, Kelly Anderson, Jackson Brantley & Carson Brantley, along with his three (3) great grandchildren Nicholas, Emilia, and Hailey.
