Kirsten Ann Wengeler - May 18, 1975 - March 29, 2024

Departed: 03/29/2024 (Oshkosh)
Obituary Preview: “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away.” Our lives are but a journey – today we share the passing of a very special woman, who always thought about others before herself. Kirsten Ann (Engebretsen) Wengeler left her earthly presence at the young age of 48 on Friday, March 29th, 2024. Kirsten passed away peacefully in her Neenah home with her husband, Will, holding her hand. For Kirsten, the last 39 months have been a challenge, living with medical complications resulting from a Covid vaccine injury. It was Kirsten’s wish to remain in her own home, together with her devoted husband and accompanied by their three beautiful Golden Retrievers, who provided Kirsten with additional comfort and support.
Kirsten was born May 18, 1975, in Merrill, WI – the daughter of Dr. Gary and Julie (Thacker) Engebretsen. Kirsten knew she had a greater purpose and made a difference wherever she went. She graduated from Merrill High school in 1993. She later earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh and a Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Before her illness, she was a dedicated Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner at Women’s Care of Wisconsin in Neenah, WI. It was not just a job for her – they were family. She was proud of the difference she was able to make.
Kirsten married William A. Wengeler, on January 20th, 2000, on an island in Turks and Caicos. The two of them had grown up together since they were in 4th grade. It was no surprise that they would share their lives.
Kirsten was a remarkable gift giver, but some of her greatest gifts were her caring personality, sense of adventure, knowing how to support others, and her generous heart. She had a passion and love for all animals and especially Golden Retrievers. Kirsten always seemed to know what the girls were thinking and would translate their thoughts and desires with her special playful laugh. The Wengeler household was actively involved in the Golden Retriever Rescue of Wisconsin. Both through advocacy and the fostering of many wonderful Goldens, who more than anything else, needed a family to share their unconditional love. Some of these Goldens were able to stay and enjoy everything the Wengelers had to offer. Be it the Goldens or someone who just needed a friend, the Wengeler house has always been a special place to call home.
Kirsten was also highly creative, full of great ideas, and driven. These traits were best expressed in her travel itineraries; it was not just about going places, but to share an adventure with those she loved that would become a lasting memory. She enjoyed many vacations throughout the USA, Europe, and Caribbean, but she especially enjoyed the warm Florida sun with Will and her Goldens. She was a very hands-on partner, and they made a hard-working team. The Lakehouse they created on Green Lake brought her immense joy and an outlet for her talents of decorating and entertaining. She made countless wonderful lakeside memories with family and friends. Love Lake Life.
Kirsten is survived by her husband, Will; Goldens, Sarah Beth, Katherine Grace, and Emma Louise; parents, Gary and Julie Engebretsen of Merrill, WI; sister, Beth (Michael) Kroll of Berlin, WI; parents-in-law, William and Joanne Wengeler of Merrill, WI; brother-in-law, Steven Wengeler of Merrill, WI and niece Chelsea, aunts, an uncle, cousins, and many wonderful supportive friends.
Kirsten was preceded in death by her grandparents, Victor and Ruth Engebretsen as well as George and Irene Thacker.
Fox Cities Funeral & Cremation Services assisted the family. Per Kirsten’s wishes, there will be no service. If you would like to send a memorial, donations can be made to the Golden Retriever Rescue of Wisconsin, addressed to GRRoW Treasurer, PO Box 235 Waunakee, WI 53597. Alternatively, at GRRoW.org, donations can be made using a credit card or PayPal with the option in Step 4 for donors to place a message. Donations may also be made to the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter (GLAAS.org) PO Box 86 Green, Lake WI 54941.
Please help keep Kirsten’s memory alive – share her love and kindness in all you do and to everyone you encounter. While Kirsten was incredibly strong, her body was tired. She found peace knowing she had a tremendous positive impact. Knowing Kirsten was truly a gift! Be present and live in the moment. Find comfort in the fact she is free, no longer in pain, and in a special place where one day we will be together again.
The family would like to thank all their friends, neighbors, work families, and the team at Compassus Hospice for their kindness, care, and support to Kirsten and Will during this journey. You never realize the strength you have, but when you love someone, you can do whatever you need to.

Laura Jean Unger - March 02, 1962 - March 17, 2024

Departed: 03/17/2024 (Oshkosh)
Obituary Preview: Laura Jean Unger passed away peacefully on March 17, 2024, at the age of 62.  Born March 2, 1962, in Waukesha, WI, she was the first daughter of Carole and Larry Unger.
She grew up in Waterford, where some of her fondest childhood memories were spending long summer days exploring the fields and forests surrounding the family home, and the many trips “up north” snowmobiling.
Laura met Randy Lindgren, the love of her life, in 1980, and became a ‘bonus’ mom to Randy’s daughter, Corrine.  In 1982 Laura gave birth to their first child, Theresa.  In 1984, they welcomed their second child, “little” Randy.  The family lived in Milwaukee until 1993, when they found their new home in Red Granite, where Laura still resided.
She had a passion for little things in life she found beautiful; a sunny day, butterflies, a snow-covered tree, an antique steeped in history, or a song that moved her to tears.  Laura loved to cook and was an extremely talented seamstress.  She often created beautiful handmade gifts for her family.  She was always genuinely and unapologetically herself.  Always ready with a quick comeback.  She was a simple woman who navigated what life brought her with love and wit.
Predeceased by her husband Randy, sister Leah, and ‘bonus’ daughter Corrine, Laura’s memory will be honored and kept alive by her surviving children Theresa and Randy, siblings Raymond and Paula, sister-in-law Bernice, favorite uncle “Butch”, and a loving extended family including special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial gathering in Laura’s honor will be planned by her siblings in the near future.

Obituary Preview: In loving memory of Tammy Kivi, an Up North girl born to Arne and Judith Carlson on August 4, 1963, in Hayward, WI. She left her mark on the world on Saturday March 16th with her unparalleled capacity for love at the age of 60. Tammy was born and raised on a farm in Seeley; she knew the value of hard work and cherished the simple joys of life. With a heart as big as the great outdoors, Tammy loved her family and friends with a fierceness that defined her very essence. Throughout her life, she was a beacon of warmth and comfort to those around her, and always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear.  She was also one for a good adventure.
As a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Tammy's legacy will live on through the countless memories she created with her family. Her laughter, kindness and unwavering love will continue to echo through the hearts of those who knew her.  As her Grandmother, Myrtle Metcalf, would say, she was hippy and lippy.  She was a quick-witted woman who was never short of a good comeback at any moment, and she was also remembered for her selfless nature.  In Tammy's passing, we are reminded of the importance of cherishing the moments we have with our loved ones, and of the lasting impact that a life well-lived can have on those around us. Tammy may be gone, but her spirit lives on, inspiring us all to love with the same unbridled passion that she did. Rest in peace, dear Tammy. You will be dearly missed, but your love will forever be etched in our hearts.

Over the years Fred developed and refined a love for woodworking. He made everything from bird houses to furniture, both primitive to refined, always looking for the next challenge.  He was often in the shop at 5 am before going to work. Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online, or in a funeral home's website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who need to know about the passing. They can also help families process their grief and provide closure.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or mortuary may assist with writing it. The writer should be someone who knew the deceased well and can provide accurate and meaningful information.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, interests, and surviving family members. You may also include a brief biography or anecdote to personalize the obituary.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Longer obituaries may be suitable for online publications or memorial websites.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the notice and make it more engaging.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and requirements. Some newspapers may have online forms or email addresses for submitting obituaries.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, you can write your own obituary in advance. This is often referred to as a "self-written" or "pre-written" obituary. It can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your life story is told accurately.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that celebrates the person's life.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it's difficult or impossible to make changes to an obituary once it's been published. Be sure to proofread carefully before submitting it.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to share the obituary publicly, you can choose to keep it private by sharing it only with close family and friends or through a private online memorial page.

Can I include charitable donations in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers or other gestures. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased's legacy.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe varies depending on the publication's schedule and deadlines. Online platforms may publish immediately, while newspapers may take several days or weeks.

What if I'm unsure about what to say in an obituary?

Talk to friends and family members who knew the deceased well. They may have insights or stories that can help inspire your writing.
