Joann Marie Giampaolo - October 08, 1946 - March 25, 2024

Departed: 03/25/2024 (Manhattan)
Obituary Preview: Joann Marie (Doyle) Giampaolo was born October 8, 1946 in Joliet, Illinois, and died March 25, 2024. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas; her parents, Joseph “Red” and Nora (McCarthy) Doyle; and her husband Ronny. Jojo graduated from St. Francis Academy in 1964 and earned an Associate’s degree from Joliet Junior College, followed by a Bachelor’s degree from College of St. Francis in 1968.
Joann married Ron Giampaolo on August 3, 1968. They moved to Manhattan and built a huge family with 5 children: Betsy (Brian) Dobczyk, Jeff (Gwen), Julie (Dave) Daugherty, Jill (Brandon) Brenczewski, and Mike (Erin). We have many happy memories with Jojo at the center: our vacations to Yellowstone Park; playing softball in the summertime with Joann coaching; all the holidays she planned. It was risky to act up in church if you were standing next to Jo- and at the same time, she was always the first one to help when you needed it.
Joann and Ronny have fourteen grandchildren: Caitlin (Kyle) Opperman, Emily (Joey) Klahn, Casey and Brett Dobczyk; Sophia and Maddie Giampaolo; Cameron Giampaolo and Gabby and Addie Daugherty; Olivia, Alaina, and Lila Brenczewski; and Violet and Scarlett Giampaolo. Jojo was especially beloved by her grandchildren- she was always running around with them, making up fun games, and playing. She loved to have them for overnights and attended hundreds of games and performances. Joann had a talent for making every one of her grandchildren feel special and loved.
Jojo had an extraordinary gift for working with children. She was the head of St. Paul’s UCC Preschool for many years, and she couldn’t go anywhere in Manhattan without running into a student or a parent. Years after she retired, her students and their parents were still stopping her in public, to tell her how much they loved her.
Ireland had a special place in Joann’s heart. Ronny and Joann took several trips there, and in particular they fell in love with the town of Dingle. In 2017, Jo and her five children traveled to Ireland together where Joann closed down the pubs every night, especially in Dingle- singing and clapping along to live music, and dancing to “Galway Girl” all over Ireland.
Joann loved being in the middle of every party and she was always up for anything. She made fantastic meatloaf and terrible pork chops. She had a huge impact on kids’ lives as a teacher, and she was the most amazing mom and grandma. Our family was her life’s main focus. Although we will miss her very much, we are proud to be Joann and Ronny’s legacy, and so happy that they are together drinking Guinness and making trouble again. We look forward to being visited by two cardinals from now on.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan, IL. Joann will be reunited with her husband Ron immediately following Mass at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL at 2:30 P.M. A memorial visitation will follow burial from 4-8:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Yes, you are reading this correctly. We are having Mass of Christian Burial followed by burial followed by visitation, all to take place on Thursday, April 4, 2024 in that order. Arrangements entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S. State St., Manhattan, IL 60442, 815-478-3321, www.forysthegouldfh.com.

Sharon & Garry Rothenberg - June 30, 1949 - February 27, 2024

Departed: 02/27/2024 (Manhattan)
Obituary Preview: Garry George Rothenberg August 17, 1948 - May 20, 2023 Sharon Ann Rothenberg (nee Gemmell) June 30, 1949 - February 27, 2024
Garry and Sharon passed peacefully, less than a year apart, each surrounded by their loving family. Garry, known by Sharon as Puddin’, and Sharon, known by Garry as Toots, were married in July of 1987 and began a 36 year journey exemplifying everlasting love, unwavering commitment, and true devotion to each other. Garry and Sharon first met when Sharon’s car broke down in a parking lot, and Garry came to her rescue, at least that’s the story they told. We will just go with it. Garry, an Army Veteran and avid sports fan throughout his life, could be found in the early morning hours catching up on the Cubs stats, working his way through a 1000 piece puzzle, or tending to his yard and garden. Sharon, on the other hand, could be found up late in the evening shopping for unique handmade gifts for her loved ones, journaling, and catching up on her favorite shows. Garry and Sharon most looked forward to their trips to Shipshewana where they adventured through amish stores and feasted on their favorite pies. Garry’s favorite was Strawberry Rhubarb and Sharon’s was Lemon Supreme. Garry and Sharon both possessed a gentle and kind nature which shined the brightest when they were together and with family. Garry was quick with a joke which he delivered in his quiet and understated way but also packed a punch and left those around him laughing. Sharon was caring and compassionate, but even she found humor in Garry’s playful jabs. Garry and Sharon expressed their love for each other through thoughtfully written cards just because, flowers and small gifts, being each other’s person and best friend always, showing care and compassion for each other in every decision, and truly valuing each other for who they were. Together they weathered the storms of life and all of the beautiful moments side by side and forever grateful to have each other.
Upon their marriage, Garry and Sharon lovingly blended their families and created many cherished memories over the years. Garry enjoyed fishing, going to Blackhawks games and Cubs games, talking sports, and playfully bantering with his son. Garry and Steve had a strong connection rooted in their love for one another and the pride they felt in having the honor of calling each other father and son. Sharon enjoyed crafting, shopping, watching movies, and simply spending time with her daughter. Sharon loved deeply, especially when it came to Denise, and she treasured their time together feeling grateful for Denise’s companionship and support. Sharon also always looked forward to time with her sisters just visiting or shopping. Both Sharon and Garry enjoyed spending time with their children, but they loved spending time with their grandchildren. Rosemarie D. Jurgens - October 11, 1945 - February 18, 2024

Departed: 02/18/2024 (Manhattan)
Obituary Preview: Rosemarie D. Follmar Jurgens, fondly known as Rosie, passed from this life into glory during the morning Hour of Mercy, February 18, 2024. Referring to herself as the black sheep of the family for not entering the ministry like both of her siblings, she surrendered to her ministerial vocation in the 1980s after encountering Holy Spirit through a CRHP weekend retreat.
Following the footsteps of her parents who held weekly bible studies in their home during the 1950s, Rosie opened her home for the ministry of the Lord. During the 1980s, they had prayer gatherings and Masses. After her eldest came to faith in the 1990s, she opened her home on Saturday nights for scores of young adults to encounter Jesus.
After retirement, Rosie continued to serve the Diocese of Joliet and lead small group gatherings. She delighted in the fellowship of the weekly Ladies Group.
In life, Rosie tasted and saw that the Lord is good, His presence being better than the sweetest of desserts that she too enjoyed. She now joins our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family and friends at the Great Banquet in glory.
Visitation for Rosie will take place on Friday, February 23, 2023 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home.
