Obituary Preview: Adelaida Dayao Reyes, 79, of Issaquah passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 17, 2021 at 12:30 am under the care of Evergreen Hospice. She was born on June 11, 1941 in Nueva Ecija, Philippines, the third of six children to the late Virginia Dayao & Vicente Reyes.

She was raised in a devoted Catholic family and her childhood was filled with acts of service and devotion to Jesus and Our Blessed Mother. The deep faith that was instilled in her as a youth helped support her through the ups and downs of life and was the gift she passed on to her children and grandchildren.

Aida attended vocational school and took this opportunity to learn about dress making, flower arrangements, cosmetology, plumbing, electricity, auto mechanics and air conditioning. She would later bring these skills together to become a successful business proprietor. She owned and operated Aida’s Creation, in the heart of downtown Manila for 20 years, designing and creating custom made wedding dresses, evening gowns and wedding accessories for hundreds of customers. Her business acumen was instrumental to the success of Aida’s Creation, but it was her servant heart that made her special. She channeled her success toward helping others; by providing financial assistance to her mother, providing food for the hungry beggars outside her shop or recognizing the humanity of a thief she befriended.

In 1964, she married Miguel Poingue and raised her three children, Evelyn, Edwin and Modelyn in their home in Manila, while running her business until 1980 when she had the opportunity to send her children to the United States to pursue the American dream. Aida followed shortly after and moved to California and successfully established Modelyn’s Bridals in Long Beach, CA for 10 years until she moved her business and family to Neptune, NJ.

Aida set up Modelyn’s Bridals in downtown Neptune and built her business as a master seamstress over 20 years. Her reputation as a gifted dressmaker, who could create custom designed wedding gowns grew by word of mouth. During the peak wedding season, she often had 2 to 3 weddings per weekend that included the bride’s gown and accessories, bridal party dresses, tuxedo rentals, floral arrangements and mother of the couple’s dresses. She poured her heart and soul into every dress she designed and sewed, and always made every customer feel special and loved. Aida lived her faith through her work and often found herself in a position to help others, which she always did without hesitation or reservation. She felt blessed because God was answering her customer’s prayers through her.

Aida was playful, loving and devoted to her 8 grandchildren and great granddaughter. It was normal to see her wrestling on the living room floor with them, chasing them around the yard or squirting water at them in the pool. Halloweens were extra special for her granddaughters as they sparkled in custom made princess costumes.

Aida’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the loving owners and caretakers at Pax Adult Family home, the Almanza family, Isabel & Julian, and Vangie, who cared for her the past 7 years. The kindness and compassion shown to her while in their care is very much appreciated.

Obituary Preview: Lyle Norbert Kussman, of Duvall, passed away on April 18, 2003 at the family home. He was 65.

Lyle was born on March 15, 1938 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, the son of Bert and Eileen Kussman. He was raised in Wisconsin Rapids and graduated from Lincoln High School and attended University of Wisconsin. On August 1, 1959 he married Jonnie Leigh Johnson in Wisconsin Rapids. Lyle owned his own architectural firm in the Seattle area for many years. The family moved to Bellevue in 1969 and to Duvall in 1999. In his leisure time he enjoyed golf, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife Jonnie; daughter Kimberly Kussman, of Monroe; two sons Kevin (Christine) Kussman, of Vancouver, Washington and Kelly (Jeannie) Kussman, of Duvall; and four grandchildren, Andrea and David Kussman, of Vancouver, Kyle and Aaron Kussman, of Duvall.
