He worked as mechanic for the Carroll County Times for 30 years and currently was employed at Quinn Flags in Hanover, PA.  He was a 1982 graduate of Westminster High School where he was on the wrestling team and served in the Army Reserves.

Besides his mother, he is survived by daughter Valerie D. Sanders, son Daniel B. Sanders and wife Robin, all of Hanover, PA; siblings Sharon Hughes and husband Christopher of Manchester; Douglas J. Sanders of Spring Grove, PA; Jenny Sanders and husband Tim of Gardiners, PA; Mary Esworthy and husband James of Westminster and Shelly Sanders of Westminster; grandchildren Caleb, Kenzie, Evelyn and Ulric.  Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m.  Interment will be private.

Obituary Preview: Barry Lee Shorb, 58, of Westminster, died Thursday, April 21, 2022.  Born February 5, 1964 in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Richard L. “Dick” Shorb and Virginia “Ginny” Shorb of Westminster.

Barry worked as a truck driver for Charles Bopst Trucking, Robert W. Seal Trucking and Stephan and Son.  He was a 1982 graduate of Westminster High School.  He enjoyed dirt track racing with his brother, working on cars, collecting guns and Hot-wheels and Mustangs and tractors.

Besides his mother, he is survived by brother Harold Miller (Shirley); sister Teresa Wilhelm; brother Mark Shorb (Donna), all of Westminster; nephews Kyle Wilhelm and fiancé Pam Click and Kory Shorb (Jessica), a niece Katelyn Shorb, great-niece and nephew Ivy and Waylon Wilhelm.  He thought of his nieces and nephews as his own children and grandchildren.  Also survived by friends Chuck and Larie Taylor and dog Chloe.

He was predeceased by brother-in-law Larry Wilhelm, Jr.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

Before retiring Donna worked as a load specialist for BGE.  She enjoyed being a dog mom, spending time with her cats Desi and Lucy, traveling and camping in her RV.

Besides her husband, she is survived by children Chelsea Waggoner and husband Brent of Essex and Cameron Pineda and wife Georgeanna of Abingdon; brothers Jerome Simmons and wife Giesela and Richard Simmons and wife Laurie and an uncle Bill Tawes.

He worked as a commercial photographer for Port City Press and retired as a custodian from the Carroll County Board of Education.  He graduated from North Carroll High School in 1970 and enjoyed reading, history and collecting baseball memorabilia.  He served in the Marine Corps. during Vietnam.

He is survived by companion Roxanne Bancroft of Westminster; children Chad Keller and Jillian Keller, both of San Antonio, TX; siblings Gary Keller, Pamela Calhoun, James Hare and Delma Fisher.

He was predeceased by a son Derek S. Keller.

Private inurnment will be held at Middletown Cemetery.

Born on July 9, 1954, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Curtis Rice and Melva Marie Rice (née Perry). She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Patrick F. Flaherty.

With compassion and generosity, “Jules” spent her life in service to others.

Julie was a Spiritual Director and a Certified CMED Archetypal Consultant. She was a proud graduate of the Institute of Notre Dame (IND), Class of 1972. She began her career as a nurse, and her knowledge of medicine was second to none. She was a former Director for Carroll Hospice and, later, Carroll Childcare. She enjoyed listening to all genres of music and her favorite musical couple was Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton. She was a huge Ravens fan; she hoped to see Lamar Jackson win a Super Bowl ring. Her favorite trips through the years included Israel, Scotland, San Francisco, and multiple visits to Chicago. She was a great baker, and her ricotta pie was a family favorite. She had a curious mind and enjoyed procedural police dramas such as Law & Order, and it became a tradition to watch ghost shows with her children when they visited. She loved fashion design shows and had a talent for interior design. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, when she would spend weeks decorating and preparing for her much-beloved Christmas Eve family party. She loved spending time with her family more than anything, and she adored her five cats, Stella, Stevie Nix, Spencer Reid, Sam Seaborn, and Santana.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Kelly Jessup and husband James of Connecticut, and Zachary Flaherty of Virginia; three brothers, Stanley Rice of Westminster, Kevin Rice and wife Debbie of Finksburg, and Keith Rice and wife Melissa of Pennsylvania; three brothers-in-law, Michael Flaherty of Parkville, Dan Flaherty and wife Linda of Forest Hill, and Tim Flaherty and wife Stacy of Pennsylvania; she is also survived by nieces Lauren, Sara, Emily, Melissa, and Allison as well as nephews Josh, Jake, Jared, Chris, Sean, Andrew, Matthew, and grand-nephew Tyler.

It would be remiss in not acknowledging her overwhelming love for the many friends she has come to know over her sixty-seven years on this earth.

Per Julie’s wishes, there will be no services.

Obituary Preview: Catherine (Flanigan) Morningstar, better known as Katie, 96, of Taneytown, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 17, 2022.  Born January 11, 1926 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Flanigan.

She graduated from Seton High School and worked for the C & P Telephone Co.  She later became her husband’s receptionist and bookkeeper.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Morningstar in 2012 and son Doug Morningstar.

She is survived by daughters Debbie Mahon of Taneytown and Wendy Sullivan, loving grandson Ryan Mahon of Maple Shade, NJ.

Katie lived with her daughter Debbie until she had a compound femur fracture and went to live at St. Joseph Place where she became a resident.  She enjoyed visiting bed ridden patients, karaoke and bingo and was a member of the Shady Ladies.  She loved chocolate, lipstick and Bailey’s. Katie enjoyed baking and always had something sweet to eat, if you stopped by to visit.

The family would like to thank Sister Eleanore Shay and all the employees of St. Joseph’s Place.  Katie had a kind soul.

Services will be private.

Before retiring he worked 32 years for C & P Telephone Co. and Verizon.  He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and most of all, spending time with his family.  He was a 1962 graduate of Westminster High School and former member of Pleasant Valley Lions Club.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son Richard V. “Tood” Devilbiss, Jr. and wife Julie of Pleasant Valley; daughter Amy L. Logie and husband Jim of Mayberry; grandchildren Samantha and Jessica Devilbiss and James W. “J.W.” Logie IV; siblings Paul “Slim” Devilbiss and wife Cookie, Doris “Sis” Schreiner, Larry “Butch” Devilbiss and wife Sylvia, Douglas Devilbiss, Donald Devilbiss and Linda “Lynne” Devilbiss and husband John Martin, all of Westminster; sister-in-law Marion Stenton of Thurmont.  Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers William “Billy” Devilbiss, Roger “Bub” Devilbiss and wife Catharine “Kitty” and brother-in-law Larry Schreiner.

Zeback and husband John of Sykesville; grandchildren Justin Morgan and wife Trista of Daytona Beach, FL; Matthew Zeback and wife Amanda of Summerville, SC; and great-grandson Chase Zeback.

She was predeceased by her twin brother Terry D. Skerritt.

Before retiring she worked in Customer Service at Black and Decker. She graduated from Westminster High School in 1952 and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Smallwood. She enjoyed spending time with family, feeding her birds and squirrels in her backyard, going to concerts, traveling, going out to dinner, sightseeing, and annual trips to Vermont in the fall with her sisters.

She is survived by four children, Bruce Menchey of Westminster, Jacquelyn Waddell and husband Wayne of Littlestown, Pa., Robyn McGrew of Westminster, and Michelle Menchey and Roland Blizzard, Jr of Westminster; two sisters, Fay Owings and Gayle Shanaberger both of Westminster and sister-in-law Carolyn Owings of Hampstead; three grandchildren, Gregory W. McGrew and wife Rebecca of Gettysburg, Michael Menchey of Hampstead, and Krysta Frock of Westminster; five great-grandchildren, Audrey, Grady, Keegan, Sawyer, and Emmilyn. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis is predeceased by three brothers, Carl Owings, Neal Owings, and Wayne “Butch” Owings.

Donald Benjamin Meyers, Sr. was born in Baltimore to Benjamin and Emma Meyers on October 12, 1933. He joined the United States Air Force in 1953 and later married Margaret Irene Slusser on October 1, 1955, in Topeka, Kansas. He worked as an aircraft technician for the United States Air Force and later for the Maryland Air National Guard for 36 years. He was also a career firefighter and worked for the Baltimore County Fire Department for 20 years. He was involved in Grace Lutheran Church of Westminster, Boumi Shriners as a member of the Legion of Honor, Drum Corps and Shrine Clowns, Freedom Lodge A.F.A.M. #112 and later Washington Masonic Lodge A.F.A.M. #3, and American Legion Post #31. Above all he was devoted to his wife of 66 years, his three children, and dedicated his work and volunteer time to serving his country, community, and others in need.

Donald Benjamin Meyers, Sr. is preceded in death by his father Benjamin Meyers, mother Emma Meyers, sister Laverne Robinson, brother Wade O. Smith, Jr., and brother Russell C. Meyers.

Donald Benjamin Meyers, Sr. is survived by his wife Margaret I. Meyers of 66 years, son Donald B. Meyers, Jr. and his wife Beth I. Meyers, daughter Gwendolyn I. Vollmer and her husband John F. Meyers, Kimberly F. Fairbank, and great grandchildren Luca D. Comegna, Adelaide L. Vollmer, Paisley H. Meyers, August B. Comegna,  and Donald B. Meyers, IV, and his sister Audrey Rew.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022 at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 East Main Street, Westminster MD 21157 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 9:00 pm. A Masonic Service will be held at 8:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14th, 2022 at 11:00 am at Grace Lutheran Church, 21 Carroll Street, Westminster MD 21157. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park in Eldersburg, MD.

Obituary Preview: Nathaniel “Nay” Miller, 69, of Westminster, died on Friday, April 8, 2022, at his residence. He was born April 17, 1952, in Washington, District of Columbia. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Lynette Audrey Miller.

Nate retired from Howard University Hospital Washington, District of Columbia after 21 years of service. Immediately after retiring from HUH Nate took on a position with the local hospital Carroll Hospital Center Westminster, MD in 2017.

To know Nate was to know the true meaning of friend. Always ready to lend a hand or anything else he had that a friend needed. His quiet demeanor often made him mysterious to persons who had not gotten to know him yet. After some time and a few raucous laughs, they got to know this gentle and courageous man and too became a part of “Team Nate”. Baptized on April 3, 1988, as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, this quiet man as used the ‘courage of the holy spirit’ (1 Chronicles 28:20) to tell others about Almighty Jehovah God.

An avid fisherman, guitar player and listening to and playing jazz music, Nate approached his hobbies with great focus. He taught himself how to play the guitar and read music. Throughout his life he was a member of several local bands and performed at various venues.

Predeceased in death by his mother Louise (Harris) Miller, his father John Henry Miller, brother Ronald “Ronnie” Miller, and brother-in-law Louis Brown, Uncle Robert Harris.

Besides his wife, Nate is survived by his sister Beatrice “Bea” (Miller) Brown, his niece Drondaire Miller, mother-in-law Dr. LaVerne (Dr. Thomas) McLaughlin, brother-in-law William “Bill” (Kimberly) Wilson, aunts Daisy Jordan, Marnita (Keith) Moore, and a host of other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by daughter Elaine Schnauble Holmes of Westminster, grandson Daniel Jeffery Holmes and wife Kate of Sarasota, FL as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sister Aleatha Carlson, brother Norman Arbaugh and son Emmerson Schnauble.

Born January 22, 1947 in Kingsport, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Harold E. Jennings and Maudie Parks Jennings. Survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Virginia “Ginny” J. Norris Jennings.

Before retiring he was a tractor trailer driver and heavy equipment operator. He served in the Navy during Vietnam, receiving the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars. Petty Officer Jennings is very efficient at his job of moving cargo. He is the type of man that you can assign a job and be sure it is going to be done. Petty Officer Jennings behavior is a very good example for the rest of the men in the Division. Petty Officer Jennings has a unique way of bringing out the best in the men under him as well as showing great respect for his supervisors and Senior Petty Officers. His appearance is always at an inspection readiness. He promotes good morale among the men with his easy nature. Petty Officer Jennings has a good command of the English language both written and oral. He loved watching westerns and John Wayne movies.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Larry Wayne Jennings, Jr. and wife Callie of Hampstead and Darrell E. “D.J.” Jennings and fiancé Gaye of Hampstead; sisters Janice Hahn of Manchester and Betty Shriver of Hampstead; grandchildren Legacy M. Jennings and Larry Hunter Jennings, great-granddaughter Dixielynn M. Jennings and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was predeceased by his sisters Debbie Walsh and Kathy Farrow.

Services and interment will be private.

She is survived by three children, James Antonio and wife Deanna of North Carolina, Douglas John Antonio of Chicago, and Janice Martin Freeland and husband Dave of Taneytown; four grandchildren, Joe Antonio, Zach Antonio, Brad Martin and wife Heather, and Sophia Antonio; and great-granddaughter Meadow Martin.

She is survived by children, Renee Risa Fulton and Gerald Hackett, Frank Lee Fulton and wife Theresa, and Jessica Goodwin and husband Jamie, sister Mary Jolicoeur-Floyd and husband Ernie Floyd and brother Michael Jolicoeur and wife Alice, niece Kiley, grandchildren Tilor, Shelby, Jamie, Faith, Kiki, Kayla, Camron, Landon, Alayna and Devinn.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, M. Dolores (Topper) Rodgers.

Donnie graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1951, and from Johns Hopkins University with an Engineering degree in 1972. Before retiring, Jim was an Electronics Engineer at Adtech, Microtel, and Adams Russell. He served in the Army Security from 1952-1955 attaining the rank of Sergeant and was stationed at Herzo Base in Germany. As a 56 year member of St. John Catholic Church, he helped run the Christmas Bazaar book stand for 30 years. He enjoyed working on his yard, especially his ornamental pond. He was a Civil War buff and enjoyed genealogy, cooking, grilling and eating crabs. His family vacations were a summer week in Canaan Valley, West Virginia, where he organized paper airplane contests and other games.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Michael A. Rodgers and wife Barbara of Westminster, Dennis T. Rodgers and wife Jeannie of Georgetown, DE., and son-in-law Charles “Chuck” Mirfin of Hanover, PA; 10 grandchildren Christy, Brett, Elizabeth, Patrick, Caroline, Meredith, Kevin, Brad, Leslie, and Ryan along with 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 11:30 with military honors at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 East Main Street, Westminster. Private interment will be held at a later date at Meadow Branch Cemetery.

Aunt to Mike and Karen Krueger, and Christopher, Jill and Beth Hepner.

Once her children were grown, she worked as a librarian and was an avid reader, involved in local book and garden clubs. She enjoyed her three grandsons.

Mary was a wonderful and loyal friend to many.

He was predeceased by his brother Walter Cox, sister-in-law Sandy Cox and niece Diane Cox.

When Margaret wasn’t inside reading, she loved spending time outdoors; watching the birds flock to their feeders, riding her John Deer tractor with the wind in her hair, especially when the roses and honeysuckle were in bloom. She retired from Western Maryland College after 25 years of service as an administrative assistant. Margaret was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. John Catholic Church and absolutely cherished being a “Mom-Mom” to her three grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Cheryl Griffin of Baltimore and James Griffin and wife Bridget of Taneytown; brother Michael Redel and wife Kathy of Taneytown; grandchildren Christian, Raeghan, Lillian Griffin of Taneytown; lifelong friends Sandy Blake and husband Jack of Ellicott City, Lew and Ann Langkam of Westminster.

She was predeceased by her brother Joseph John Redel and sister Marie Charles.

Amy had a smile and a zest for life that could light up a room. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Besides her husband she is survived by three brothers, Robert A. Martin and wife Janet of New Oxford, PA., Joseph B. Martin of Richmond, VA., and Patrick A. Martin of Westminster; and sister-in-law Melanie L. Martin and husband Dennis of Owings Mills. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by their daughter Lauren Ashley.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 East Main Street, Westminster, MD. 21157.
