Sidney Nowell, of Palm Coast, passed away Friday, August 9, 2019 at the age of 69.  Sid was born in New York, New York, the son of the late William (Sonny) Massiah and Edna Ruby Nowell Harris, whom he saw as his greatest gift of life.

Sidney is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon Piety-Nowell, who shared 23 wonderful years of his life; his beloved son, Jason Spann of California, his sister, Coral Harris of Falls Church, Virginia who has always been his biggest fan and supporter; his stepson, Stanley G. Jacobs, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Angela Jacobs (Stanley); along with his precious grandchildren: Emma Rosemary Jacobs, and Leo Robert Jacobs, of Lambertville, New Jersey.  Sid is also survived by his brother, Edgar Massiah (Joy) from St. James, Barbados and his sisters, Joan Mitchell of Maryland, and Margaret and Diana Massiah of Toronto, Canada.  In addition, Sid is survived by his lifelong brothers from his three mothers: Oliver Quinn, Dearborn Edwards, Reginald Kirven and Mark Quinn along with many, many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews, many great nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. His extended family included all of his fellow basketball coaches, players and students who became as close as family over the years.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Charles Harris and his mother’s five sisters: Kathleen Nowell Lauriers, Doris Nowell Kirven, Beryl Nowell Quinn, Matilda Nowell Barker and Hilda Nowell Mitchell.

Sidney Nowell, Esq. received his Juris Doctorate at University of Wisconsin Law School and had over forty years of active law practice in both public and private sectors. He specialized in Government Relations, Developing City & Town Ordinances, Education Law, Administrative Law, Family Law, Employment and Labor Relations.  In 1985 Sid left corporate law to work in the municipal government of New York City. After spending ten years serving three mayors of New York City (Koch, Dinkins and Giuliani), Sid relocated to Flagler County, Florida. He founded the firm of Nowell & Associates in 2002. As a general practice attorney, Sid represented clients such as the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Flagler County School District, St Johns County School District, Marion County School District, Flagler County Chamber of Commerce, City of Bunnell, City of Palm Coast and the Town of Beverly Beach. Sid was an Assistant Professor in Criminal Justice and Legal Studies at Bethune-Cookman University from 2007 to 2016.  He was currently teaching labor relations and Management Coaching and Mentoring classes for FAA managers and supervisors. Attorney Nowell also worked as a certified mediator and AAA arbitrator.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by Flagler Family Funeral Home in Bunnell, Florida. There will be no viewing, visitation or services as requested by the deceased. Sharon hopes that each person who wants to remember Sid’s life will do so each day of their lives by living in peace and caring for others.

Obituary Preview: Walter “Troy” Beasley died on July 4, 2019 at Stuart Meyer Hospice Center in Palm Coast, Florida.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Diercks Beasley and a son, Wayne Brian Beasley, his parents, Weightman and Carrie Beasley, and two sisters, Rose Liverman and Ruby Tillett, and one brother, Allen Beasley.  Troy was born in Dare County, North Carolina on September 7, 1928, and he served in the U S Army during the Korean War. He loved the Outer Banks and he worked the local waters crabbing and shrimping after retiring from his plumbing company.  Burial will be at Hill Top Cemetery in Collington Harbor/Kill Devil Hills, NC. at a later date.

Alex was born in Lisbon, Portugal and moved to this area as young boy from Portugal. He worked as a Concierge at The Hammock Beach Resort.
Alex enjoyed playing his Piano, making music, singing and was a world traveler and a thrill seeker. Loved spending time with his family and friends .Alex had a special way of touching everyone he met and was a loving friend to all that knew him.
Alex is survived by his Mother, Paula Rocha and his Father Jose deCarvalho. Step Father Joe Rocha, step sister Alyson Castro and her husband Bryan, Uncle Michael Roca, Aunt Maria Pacio and her husband Joe, Cousin Joseph Pacio and his wife Kristen and many other family members around the world.

Violet was born in Queens, N,Y and worked as a Professor at S.U.N.Y. Farmingdale and at Borough of Manhattan Community College. She retired and moved to Palm Coast, where she was a Eucharistic Minister at Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church. Violet was on the school Board for Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School and on the board for the Hammock Dunes Country Club as well as a member of the Florida Republican Club and the Italian American Club, and the Retired Teachers Association. Violet had a passion for reading books, she loved to Travel, loved dogs, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
Violet is survived by her son William Drexler Sr. and his wife Betty, Grandchildren William III, and Matthew. Brother in Law Martin Dolly and his wife Diana, former daughter in law Marissa Mayo and her Husband Tom, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Violet was predeceased by her Husband of 60 years, William Drexler Sr.

Betty worked as a banker in the financial industry. She moved to this area 11 months ago from Lake Whales, Florida. Betty enjoyed gambling and playing card. She was also known to enjoy a Martini or two , Betty loved interior decorating but most of all she loved spending time with her family and close friends.
Betty is survived by her husband Glynn Gilbert , daughter Glynna Gilbert, Step Sons Christopher Gilbert and his wife Christine, Andrew Gilbert and his wife Dena. Grandchildren Lock, Drew, Wade, Wesley, and Wyatt. Brothers Rodney Ellison, William Ellison and his wife Nina. Sister Patty Dunn and her husband Ray as well as many nieces and nephews.
During the visitation and immediately following there will be snacks served in the celebration room at the funeral home.

Despina was born in Greece and later she moved to the United States and lived in Massapequa, Long Island. During her time on Long Island she spent 25 years singing in the choir at St. Demetrius Greek Orthodox Church in Merrick Long Island. In 2007 Despina and her family moved to Palm Coast. She loved the beach, gardening, flowers and sewing. Despina Loved the Lord and believed in the power of prayer.
Despina is survived by her husband of 54 years, Vincent, daughters Alessandra and her husband Joe, Domenique and her husband Neil, Dimitra , Marie and her husband Chris. Grandchildren Michael, Maxwell, Marcus, Rebecca, Liberty, Karenmarie, Joseph, Sarah and Vincent. She is pre deceased by her parents and her son-in-law Michael Celentano. Following the services in Florida, Despina will be flown to St. Raymond Cemetery in the Bronx, N.Y. to be laid to rest on Friday May 10, 2019

Michael Warren Furry - April 19, 1938 - January 27, 2019

Obituary Preview: Celebrating the life of Michael W. Furry, 80, of Palm Coast, who passed away at his home with his family at his bedside. Michael was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and moved to Georgia in 1965 after he married his wife Lucia. Michael was a graduate of the University of Georgia where he received an Master’s Degree in Music. He worked as a Master Musician for many years and played with some of the most famous musicians in the world. He was a proud member of the United States Parachutes Association and he served his county proudly in the United Stated Army and in the Air Corps Reserves. He also worked as a designer of Parachutes and the designer and manufacturer of the container systems and designed them for the United States Military Golden Knights. Michael also designed the parachute that President George H. Bush used to jump on his 80th birthday, as well as the parachutes used in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul South Korea. He leaves a proud legacy in the sky diving industry and he will be greatly missed by many. Michael  moved to this area in 2013 with his family. Michael was very strong in his Christian Faith and he lived his life according to those Christian Values, his handshake was his word. Michael loved music, playing guitar, singing and the sky diving industry. He was well respected world wide for his professional accomplishments. Michael was a patient loving person, who is survived by his loving wife Lucia, Daughters Lisa, Karla and Andrea, His son Christopher, Sister Judy  and Sister in Law Rose, as well as 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service with  Full Military honors held at a later date.

Dylan graduated from Flagler Palm Coast High School in 2011 and worked as a landscaper. Dylan had many interests that included Art, Music, and spending time with his family and friends. Dylan will be remembered for his contagious smile and his infectious laughter. The love he so openly shared with his family, the sweet kid who was a friend to all who crossed his path, and for the endless times he spent with his family over the holidays, summer beach days and cookouts. Had an amazing energy and when you spent time with him, you soon felt that energy coursing through you as if it was your own and the happiness you felt from being around him could not be hidden. Dylan was a Father, a Son, a Brother and an Uncle and a friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all. Dylan is survived by his son Blake, Mother Lorraine Licari and his sister Brittany Licari. Dylan was predeceased by his Father Robert, Nephew Noah and his Grandmother Susan Hafey.
The family will be having a private Life Celebration for Dylan at a later date.

Joyce was born on June 3, 1931 in Plattsburgh, N.Y. She attended St. Johns Academy in Plattsburgh and Central City Business Institute in Syracuse. Joyce was married to Americo “Hank” Battaglini on August 6, 1948. She was a devout Catholic and communicant of St James Church in Syracuse, NY where she was a member of the Legion of Mary  and sang in the choir with her husband. Joyce relocated to Ormond Beach, FL in 2017. She loved spending her summers painting, gardening and playing cards with her family on Lake Champlain in Point Au Roche, NY, the place where she felt most ‘at home’. She had a big sweet tooth and was a fantastic baker, treating everyone to her butterscotch rolls and wonderful pies.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Hank, her son Christopher and daughter Susan (Crystal). She is survived by her daughters Aimee Battaglini and her husband James Sullivan, Gail (Aingeal) O’Grady and her husband Kevin, sisters Barbara, Joan and Candy, brother Charlie, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom will miss her quick wit, caring nature and infectious smile.
