Paul R. O'Neill - September 28, 1946 - March 04, 2024

Departed: 03/04/2024 (Yardley)
Obituary Preview: Paul R. O'Neill of Yardley, Pennsylvania passed away on March 4, 2024 at the age of 77.
Paul was born on September 28, 1946 in Parkland, Pennsylvania. The youngest of three children, Paul arrived as an unexpected addition to the family once his father returned to Philadelphia after a tour in World War II. Overjoyed by his return, the family welcomed Paul nine months later.
He attended Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1964 and upon graduation, Paul enlisted in the Marine Corps, continuing the O'Neill family military legacy. From 1966-1967, he proudly served with HMM-265 Helicopter Squadron, 1st Marine Airway in the Republic of Vietnam as an arial gunner. For his service, he received the Naval Combat Air Crew Wings, Purple Heart, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, a Presidential Unit Citation, several air metals and was nominated for the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Following his military service, he attended Point Park College where he met the love of his life, Nancy Lord (O'Neill). After graduation, the two married in Nancy's home state of New Hampshire in September 1972.
Pursuing his creative passions, he began his career in advertising, journalism and public relations in New York and the Philadelphia area working for The Wall Street Journal, Knight-Ridder Newspapers, The Philadelphia Bulletin, and The Salvation Army and eventually opened his own photography business, aptly named O'Neill Photography.
Over the course of his incredibly eventful life, Paul became an avid pilot, flying small aircrafts, antique and experimental aircrafts, and hot-air balloons through his own aerospace company. Once he conquered the sky, he set his sights on the open road, becoming a member of the Delaware Valley Triumph Club where he enjoyed sunny afternoons driving his restored 1978 Triumph Spitfire.
However, the best position that Paul held was that of father to his two beautiful children, Andrew (38) and Victoria (36) who were fortunate enough to be endlessly regaled with his life stories, and showered with more love than could be contained by simple words.
In addition to his children, Paul leaves behind his beloved daughter-in-law, a sister-in-law, deeply devoted nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, family, friends, and his "emotionally-adopted" children whom entered his life through his biological children and immediately found a place in his heart. He is preceded in death by his mother Marie M. O'Neill, father J. Paul O'Neill, his big brother Thomas J. O'Neill, sister Marie F. O'Neill (affectionately called Snooks), and his wife whom he has finally been reunited with.
Lastly, to those who knew him simply as "Papa O" and have loved him passively through the outpouring of love, stories, and adoration of his children, know that your love lit up his face with a smile bright enough to outshine the darkness caused by his loss.
A viewing will be held Sunday, March 10th from 2pm and 4pm at the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home 17 S. Delaware Avenue Yardley, Pennsylvania. The funeral mass will take place on Monday March 11th, 2024, at 10:30am, at St. John the Evangelist Church at 752 Big Oak Road, Yardley PA, 19067. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery 1215 Super Highway Langhorne, PA 19047.

Brian was born on December 28, 1953 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, to Francis M. and Catherine (Best) McMahon. Brian spent his childhood and school-age years in a wide range of places, including Berlin, West Germany, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Trenton State University (nka The College of New Jersey), where he met the love of his life, his wife Kathy. He married his soulmate, Kathy, in 1980, and they were married for nearly 44 years and together for 50 years.

Marion Hanuschik - January 19, 1928 - February 19, 2024

Departed: 02/19/2024 (Yardley)
Obituary Preview: Marion "Gram" Hanuschik, a beloved resident of Yardley Borough for the past 40 years, passed away peacefully at home on January 18th, 2024, surrounded by love with her daughter Michele by her side at the young age of 96. Born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey (Villa Park), Marion attended Trenton Central High School and then later received her bachelor's degree from Rider College. She was preceded in death by her parents Galliano and Lena Scaccetti, her three brothers Henry (Rachael) Scaccetti, Galliano (Helene) Scaccetti, Benedict (Elaine) Scaccetti, and her daughter Donna Wilson. Also, her beloved dogs Cletus and Woody.
Marion was a long-time employee of N.A.D.E. Her strong work ethic and devotion to her trade made her a valued employee for 50 years. After her retirement, her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Marion had many qualities that could not be overlooked, she was a pillar of strength and resilience. An avid reader, and a ruthless rummy player, she could often be found curled up in her favorite white chair playing Tetris on her Gameboy. She was fiercely competitive and athletic. In her prime you could've found her bowling a perfect game, getting a hole-in-one, shooting a bow and arrow, shagging fly balls, or beating her brothers in a game of quoits at the Scaccetti annual family picnic. Gram was a sun worshiper, a boogie board queen, and could walk in a handstand. Unassumingly humble, gentle, fiercely loyal, and had an infectious smile and spirit that radiated pure joy.
Everyone lucky enough to be in her presence felt an instant connection and sense of acceptance and love. Her door was always open, and she was ready with whatever it was that you may have needed. Whether that be her ability to listen without judgment, be your confidant, or just simply a hug, she was always there. If you needed a place to land, a ride to school, a tank of gas, or a warm meal she was your girl. Many days Marion could be found in her kitchen frying up some of Gram's Fried Chicken or making lasagna. She would often start at 5:00am cutting the chicken and if you were lucky enough you would have been the recipient of a big bag of warm chicken hanging on your doorknob before the sun even rose. She was Gram to her entire neighborhood of children. She was included in their Friday night happy hours and pizza parties. Gram could often be seen sitting under her hydrangea tree in her front yard greeting anyone who passed with a warm smile and friendly hello. She loved puttering in the garden, cutting the grass with scissors and pulling out anything that Michele had planted. She said that they were weeds. Not a leaf could be found anywhere as she could not sleep if there was a single one falling from a tree. Gram spent the last few years being an extreme puzzler with her great grandson Harris. They shared bananas, giggles, and hugs. Their love was pure and unconditional. It was the highlight of her days. Joseph Gavin - June 19, 1928 - February 17, 2024

Departed: 02/17/2024 (Yardley)
Obituary Preview: Joseph M. Gavin passed away February 17, 2024, in Naples, Florida after a brief illness at the age of 95.
Joe, son of Joseph A. Gavin and Pearl Kelly Gavin was born in Trenton, NJ on June 19, 1928. He was raised in Morrisville, PA and attended local schools before graduating from Pennington Prep. At Pennington he excelled in athletics, achieving all-state honors in basketball.
Joe enlisted in the U.S. Navy, post World War II, and served primarily in Europe during this transitional time. He was extremely proud of his Navy service which he credits in great part for his career success that followed. Joe graduated from Temple University where he played varsity basketball under legendary Coach Harry Litwak and was an integral part of their success in the early 1950’s. Joe was a teammate of All American Bill Mlkvy who was the collegiate leading scorer and rebounder at the time. Mlkvy, for those who may remember him, was known as “the Owl without a vowel.”
Joe began his professional career in 1953 as a student teacher in the Pennsbury school system. His hard work and enthusiasm led to a permanent teaching position and an eventual 35-year career at Pennsbury. Joe was best known as varsity basketball coach, a position he held for 15 years. Not only was he a successful basketball coach, but Joe also prided himself on coaching life skills to his players to help them be successful in their later lives. Even until his passing, Joe was affectionally known as “Coach” to his many friends. While at Pennsbury Joe also served as an Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, and Director of Adult Education and Community Recreation. He was exceedingly proud of his induction to the Pennsbury Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.
During his early years at Pennsbury, Joe met and subsequently married the love of his life Joan Carroll. They enjoyed being with their many friends whether it be Yardley, PA, Long Beach Island, NJ, or Hobe Sound, FL. They were married for more than 50 years prior to Joan’s passing in 2009.
Joe was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Yardley Golf Club where he served on the Board of Directors as Vice President and made many longtime friends. After moving to Hobe Sound, he continued his golf at Heritage Ridge Golf Club where many former Yardley members spent their retirement years. He later was a member at Hammock Creek Country Club where he made many more friends.
Joe was an enthusiastic Philadelphia Eagles fan who rarely missed a televised game in the last 50 plus years. Few Sundays passed without Joe placing a small wager with his “accountant” on the Eagles. After his retirement from Pennsbury, Joe spent many years at Vet Stadium as a host in the Modell Sporting Goods Box. In addition to his other endeavors Joe enjoyed visiting casinos and playing video poker. Even at the age of 95 he was an occasional visitor to the local Native American Casino where, in typical Joe Gavin fashion, he was a frequent winner.
Joe was predeceased by his mother and father, wife Joan, brother Thomas Gavin and sister Patricia Gavin Haggerty. He is survived by sister Kathleen Gavin Waldron and husband Charles E. Waldron of Naples, FL and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration of Joe’s life will be scheduled for later this year. Arrangements are under the care of Fitzgerald Sommers Funeral Home 17 S. Delaware Avenue Yardley, PA 19067. Condolences for the family can be left at www.fitzgeraldsommerfuneralhome.com.

Olivia M. Hopkins - July 12, 1995 - January 29, 2024

Departed: 01/29/2024 (Yardley)
Obituary Preview: Olivia Mary Hopkins was born on July 12th, 1995, an absurdly hot day. When she passed away on January 29th, 2024, the world was left much colder.
In between the beginning and the end of her life, Olivia touched and changed many of the people with whom she came in contact. She was unabashedly, untameably herself in every moment. She was strong in ways many of us could never imagine.
Throughout Olivia's life she endured many hardships. She carried burdens that many people in her life tried to help her bear, and she carried some that remained a secret to everyone but herself until the end. And though at times these hardships would define the shape of her life, she never allowed them to solely define her true self.
Despite the many dark days and nights, Olivia could often be a beacon of light to those who loved and cared about her. She could be fun and was funny. She was smart and naturally inquisitive and liked to share her knowledge about what she read and found interesting. Livvy was adventurous and liked to explore new places. She liked to travel and dreamed of going to more exotic locales. In spite of everything, Olivia loved the city of Philadelphia. A true fashionista, she had her own sense of style. She was a woman of varied taste: she liked rap music, Dolly Parton, iced coffee, making a salad, her true crime podcasts and reality television. Liv loved kids and dogs, especially her beloved pup Moose, who she doted on and spoiled endlessly. Above all, however, Olivia should be remembered for the true essence of who she was at heart: a compassionate, nonjudgmental person who treated everyone with kindness and dignity. She was generous and caring, sometimes to a fault, and she had great empathy for the downtrodden and less fortunate.
Olivia earned her associate's degree from the Community College of Philadelphia and dreamed of going back to school to earn her bachelor's degree. Of great comfort to those who loved her was the happiness her recent work as a dispatcher for the Philadelphia Police Department brought her. Though she was only employed there a few months, she often referred it as a "dream job." She truly enjoyed her work and was proud of how she excelled in the training program.
Olivia is survived by her devoted parents, Patricia Maloney and Mark Hopkins, her loving brother, Matthew and his fiancée Christina, dozens of loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, and most of all by the innumerable memories held by anyone and everyone who spent a moment in her company. There was so much more that Olivia was meant to say and do in this world, but the memories she's left us with will always be there to guide us to her in every moment.
