William "Bill" Bailey - August 06, 1935 - March 27, 2024

Departed: 03/27/2024 (Benton)
Obituary Preview: William M. “Bill” Bailey, of Fairdealing passed away with family by his side on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. He was 88 years old. Born in Oblong, Illinois, he was raised in nearby Robinson, Illinois. He also lived in northwest Indiana for seventeen years before settling in the Benton area with his family.
Known to his family by his middle name, Meredith, Bill was born on August 6, 1935 to Paul L. Bailey and Bessie I. King Bailey. He is survived by his son Terry (Marilou) Bailey, daughter Dawn (Mike) Mohler, his grandchildren Jered (Felisha) Bailey, Taleah  (Eddie) McGuire, Michelle Bailey; and Bailey Mohler. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren who all share wonderful memories of him and will miss him terribly. Bill was preceded in death by his second son Curtis Bailey in 2014 and by his wife of 68 years, Neoma Bailey, who died just nine days prior to his own death.
Soon after graduating high school in 1954, Bill enlisted with the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. Shortly afterwards, he and Neoma married and began their life together, which soon included a duty assignment to Fairbanks, Alaska. After separating from the Air Force, they returned to Illinois, then moved to Indiana where he found work with a contractor for U.S Steel as a heavy equipment operator and where they established themselves in the community while raising their three children. In 1978, he and Neoma moved to the Benton area with Curtis and Dawn where they had purchased a Grocery and Gas business in Fairdealing. They named it 5-B Grocery and operated it successfully for several years, receiving business accolades and, most importantly, establishing long-lasting friendships with neighbors and other community members.
After selling the 5-B Grocery in 1984, Bill opened a tire sales and service business, Benton Tire. Upon establishing a solid reputation and loyal clientele, he eventually chose to sell that business venture as well. Bill also held positions with Pennwalt Corporation and with Westlake Monomers in Calvert City. It was at the Westlake Monomers facility that he held the position of Safety Inspector for several years, putting off retirement until the age of seventy-nine.
Bill also served as a church Deacon of the Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he and Neoma were active members and volunteered much of their time helping with or organizing several church activities. He also served his community as a board member of the Fairdealing-Olive Volunteer Fire District and as a member of the Rizpah Shriners chapter where, among other activities, he was involved with fundraising for the Shriners Hospital and spent Tater Day celebrations dressed up as one of the Shriner clowns or driving in the parade.
Bill found pleasure working on projects around his home, with the church, or with friends and neighbors. Although he preferred his days to remain busy and productive, he cherished the mornings that he and Neoma could enjoy relaxing together on their back porch or sit and watch deer in the field as afternoon turned to evening. Ever a fan of country music, he also spent many Thursday evenings enjoying his neighbor’s band playing live music and then visiting with all the performers and other neighbors in attendance.
Bill Bailey’s time with us here has ended but his heart’s desire was to always remain by the side of his loving wife in good health or bad, in this life and in the next. He was anxious to rejoin her after her passing on March 18 and, so, he has. They are now together in the company of family and loved ones that have gone before, and he will be missed by many friends and family members. He and Neoma can now enjoy their time together free of the illnesses and worries encountered in this life and they’ll be among the souls that welcome us when our time comes to join them.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Olive Missionary Baptist Church activities building on Friday, April 19, 2024.

Neoma Marie Bailey - February 02, 1936 - March 18, 2024

Departed: 03/18/2024 (Benton)
Obituary Preview: Neoma Marie Bailey, of Fairdealing, Kentucky,  passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 18, 2024, in Benton, Kentucky, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Crawford County, Illinois, she had also lived in northwest Indiana for a time prior to settling in the Benton area with her family. She was 88 years old.
Neoma was born on February 2, 1936, to Roy E. McCarter and Ruth M. (Purcell) McCarter. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, William “Bill” Bailey, and by son Terry (and Marilou) Bailey, daughter Dawn (and Mike) Mohler, her grandchildren Jered (and Felisha) Bailey, Taleah (and Eddie) McGuire, Michelle Bailey, and Bailey Mohler. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren who all share wonderful memories of her and will miss her terribly. Neoma was preceded in death by her second son Curtis Bailey.
Upon graduating high school in 1954, Neoma began work with Western Union in Chicago. Shortly afterward, she and Bill, who was in the US Air Force at the time, married and began their life which included an assignment to Fairbanks, Alaska. They later moved to Indiana, where she returned to Western Union for a short time before quitting to dedicate her time to raising a new family. In 1978, she and Bill moved to the Benton area with Curtis and Dawn where they had purchased a Grocery and Gas business in Fairdealing. They named it 5-B Grocery and operated it successfully for several years, not only receiving business accolades but, most importantly, establishing long-lasting friendships with neighbors and other community members.
Neoma’s faith was her rock. It’s what kept her anchored to all other important things in her life, including family, purpose, and community. She and Bill have been active members of the Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where she volunteered much of her time and helped organize weekly dinners for many years as well as dinners for families going through times of sorrow or need. She also used her time to assist or comfort others when needed and often volunteered to help with the Clothes Closet at the Blood River Baptist Association. Neoma was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kentucky Lake Auxiliary 1084.
At the age of 51, Neoma achieved an associate degree in Specialized Business Accounting, which helped her progress at her job with an industrial facility in Calvert City, from which she retired. Later, she filled some of her available time by taking a position at the Kenlake Lodge near Aurora. Neoma also found joy and purpose as a long-time representative with Mary Kay Cosmetics - a company she admired and took pride in due to the religious convictions of its founder.
At the heart of Neoma's life was her role as a homemaker. She was the wife, mother, grandmother, and neighbor who showered anyone coming to her home with warmth, love, and food. She always managed to have something prepared or ready to prepare. The smell of soups, casseroles, and other specialty dishes was common, but she also excelled in creating Christmastime baked goods and candies, as well as other holiday treats that she loved to share with children and adults alike.
Neoma Bailey has finished her walk here, with us, with the same grace and love that she carried throughout her life and she has begun a new one in the company of family and loved ones that have gone before. She will be deeply missed by many but as those close to her say their goodbyes and hold the memories close, they may rest assured that she’ll be there to greet them and share the peace and beauty that awaits.
The family requests that in lieu of sending flowers or gifts, donations be made to the Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 4611 Olive Hamlet Road, Hardin, Kentucky, 42048, or to the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.

She grew up in the Lone Oak community and was very active within her school and at Lone Oak Church of Christ. She later married Willis Green of Reidland and partnered with him in local church ministries throughout Western Kentucky for more than 25 years. Their partnership also grew to include leading and teaching students with disabilities in Marshall County. Judy and her husband, along with others, played a very instrumental role in helping establish a nonprofit organization which is now known as the Marshall County Exceptional Center.
