Eva Ruiz - February 03, 1931 - April 01, 2022

Obituary Preview: Eva (Robledo) Ruiz received God’s embrace on Friday, April 1, 2022 at her home surrounded by the love of her children, all of whom were present for her last breath. Eva resided in Schererville, Indiana. She was born and raised in East Chicago, where she was employed as a legal secretary for almost 50 years with the City of East Chicago Law Department and the East Chicago City Court. Concurrent with her career, she raised a family and did so with much dedication and love. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe parish in East Chicago and more recently, St. Maria Goretti parish in Dyer. She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Louis H. Ruiz; her parents, Joaquin and Rosa Robledo; and brother Joaquin Robledo Jr. She is also preceded in death by grandsons, Gregory Louis Ruiz and Sean Nolimal.
Eva is survived by four children:  daughter, Cynthia (Ralph) Villarruel, sons:  Louis H. (Monica) Ruiz Jr., Gregory J. Ruiz, and Thomas R. (Alicia) Ruiz; nine grandchildren:  John Michael (Caitlin) Villarruel, Valerie (Anthony) Nguyen, Christian (Desirae) Villarruel, Sofia Ruiz, Olivia Ruiz, Thomas James (TJ) Ruiz, Eva Juliana Ruiz, Andrew Louis Ruiz, Zoey Alyssia Ruiz; and two great-grandchildren: Elia Lou Villarruel and Andrew Nguyen.
Eva was fond of traveling with family and friends on vacations in Mexico as well as excursions to Las Vegas and Milwaukee in celebration of Mexican Independence Day. She was an avid fan of mariachi music and held Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán as her favorite group. Her keen attention to detail in all matters was representative of her sharp mind, all the way up until her death at 91 years old. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at St. Maria Goretti Church, 500 Northgate Drive, Dyer, Indiana with Rev. Charles W. Niblick officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass at 10:00 at Church. Ruby was a kindergarten student at Lighthouse Academy in East Chicago; she loved to draw, music, sing, play with her lego’s, board games, puzzles, bike riding, playing in the park, and snow; her favorite colors were purple and pink; she loved her stuffed animals and enjoyed playing with her brother and sister.  Ruby’s favorite food was her donuts, she also liked pancakes, sunny-side eggs with white rice, strawberries, and apple juice.
Ruby was very outspoken, no was no and yes was yes; she also had her shy moment with her little contagious smile – thumbs up or thumbs down; She was fearless, never afraid to try new things; also pretty independent, smart, and creative. Freddie Ray Emery - December 25, 1947 - March 16, 2022

Obituary Preview: Freddie Ray Emery was born on December 25, 1947 in Chatham, LA. He was the youngest of eleven children born to Quintelar and Julius Emery.
Freddie attended Jasper Henderson High School in Chatham, LA and Roosevelt High School in East Chicago, IN.
Freddie married the late Beatrice Winbush of East Chicago, IN, and gained an adopted son in Kalen Abram (grandson). Freddie and Kalen enjoyed music, cooking, fishing, and reading the Bible together.
Music was Freddie’s God-given talent. He taught himself to play the guitar and the piano. He was also a singer in the Scott Brothers band.
Although Freddie was small in stature, he had a large appetite. With this large appetite grew a love for cooking. Any random day would become a Thanksgiving feast or a simple outdoor grill day in the middle of winter.
Freddie worked at Blaw-Knox, Gary Airport, and Scrap Metal Services.
He was a quiet person until you would mention God. Later in life he became a Minister and the word of God remained at the tip of his tongue and until his last days.
Freddie was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Winbush; his parents, Julius and Quintelar Emery; three brothers: Thomas Morgan (Bobby), and Anders James (AJ), Arthur Westley (Mac); and four sisters: Lula (Mary) Bullard, Thelma Roberson, Ida Bell Austin, and Margaret Morris. Freddy leaves to cherish his memory: son Mark and Kalen; sister Essie Thompson and Deborah Walton; brothers: Oscar and A’Lester Emery; step-children Murray, Marquie, and Myckol (Mickey) Shamble; multiple grandchildren (Kayla, Dylan, and Aliyah) and loved ones from the Emery and Shamble families; and many friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, Indiana.  Private cremation to follow.  There will be a memorial luncheon on Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm for family and friends at The Hijos de Borinquen Hall, 1411 Broadway St., East Chicago, Indiana. Carmelo came to Indiana at the age of 18.  He worked at LTV Steel where he retired after 34 years of service.  He was born in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, Barrio Masa, where he was better known as “Pito” not Carmelo!
He enjoyed listening to his Jibaro Music and loved spending time with his grandchildren; especially his hometown Gurabo, P.R. viewing the island from his home up in the hills, beautiful!  Special thanks to his cousins, Ismael Garcia and Jorge Medina for being there for our Dad, Amor de Familia.  We would also like to give thanks to all the many family and friends that reached out to support our Dad and us in our time of need. He was a lifetime member and past president of La Asociación Benefica Hijos de Borinquen, Inc.; an original board member at the Roberto Clemente Center in the Harbor, The Concerned Latins, and the East Chicago Puerto Rican Parade Committee.  Carmelo loved his family barbeques, his music and his red roses.  He will surely be missed by his many friends and family.
