Obituary Preview: Anna Mae (McMillen) Thorne, age 84 of Reedsville, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Mountain Memories Assisted Living Center in Elkins, WV.
Born March 7, 1940, in Masontown, she was the daughter of the late Alva and Emma (Roby) McMillen.
After graduating from Morgantown Business College, Anna worked in Washington, D.C. She then returned home and worked as a secretary for Colshire and Preston Electric and Light. She was a member of the Masontown United Methodist Church and later the Reedsville United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir. She enjoyed taking rides on scenic roads, picnics, and she loved wildflowers.
She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Thorne; one son, David Thorne; one daughter, Anita May; and one brother, Raymond McMillen; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Thorne; three brothers, Roy, Charles, and Cecil; and two sisters; Bessie Haney and Helen Jenkins.
Family and friends will be received at Field Funeral Home on Sunday, from 3 until 5p.m. and on Monday, April 29, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 time of service with Pastor Lisa Fox officiating. Interment will be private.

She was born in Newburg, WV, on November 28, 1948, a daughter of the late Howard and Opal (Sine) Prentice Martin.
Mary was employed at the FBI during her younger years. She was very active at the Gladesville Community Center, serving as the secretary, and was active with the school. She also sold Avon beauty products.
Mary is survived by a son, Howard "Zack" Plum; nephew, Lynn Teets and wife Michelle; nieces, Mary Edith Johnson and husband Alan and Carol Frisby and husband Tom; great nephews, Gavin Teets and Roy Utt and fiancé Sherri; brother-in-law, Larry Teets, and special friends and neighbors, Susan Hunter, Ruth Enlow, and Doris Plum.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Gene "Don" Plum in 2022; brother, George "Buddy" Prentice; and sisters, Mary Cunningham and Betty Bargess.

Junior was born in Kingwood, WV on August 21, 1935, a son of the late Louis Ray and Glenna (Metheny) Boring.
Junior was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He retired from Jack Boyles and Reliable Coal Company with 32 years of service as a coal miner and was a former member of the UMWA. Junior loved woodwork and had cut timber for many years. He enjoyed anything outside, especially gardening. Later in life Junior enjoyed traveling.
Junior is survived by three sons, Robert Boring and wife Janet of Maidsville, Patrick Boring and wife Tammy and Danny and wife Missy all of Masontown; two daughters, Mary Ann Varner and husband Vernon of Kingwood and Vanessa Rossetti and husband Tim of Arthurdale; 15 grandchildren, Aaron and Amy Varner, Matthew and Danielle Varner, Kristen and Wayne Park, Ryan and Sally Boring, Patrick Boring Jr. and Missy Groves, Jonnie and Michelle Boring, Christopher Boring, Chad Boring, Hannah Boring and Cameron Sargent, Cortney and Matt Stuchell, Ashley and Ethan Calvert, Dominic DeBardi, Jade Rossetti, Nico Rossetti and Deserai and Robert Smith; 20 great grandchildren, Morgan, Mason and Maverick Varner, Lexie and Hadley Varner, Coal, Reese and Paige Park, Royce, Louella and Lincoln Boring, Brandon Boring, Shayleigh and Landon Boring, Allisyn Cramer, Clay and Savanna Calvert, Braylenn and Brantley Sargent, and Emmett Stuchell; a brother, Roger Boring and wife Peggy of Marietta, OH; and three sisters, Carolyn Greathouse and Judy Radabaugh, both of Morgantown and Kathy Garrett of Masontown and a sister-in-law, Helen Boring of Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 37 years and mother of his five children, Mary Elizabeth Boring, in 1994; his second wife of 21 years, Donna JoAnn Boring in 2017; grandson, Gregory Boring; great granddaughter, Aubree Boring; brother, Richard Boring and son-in-law, Ralph DeBardi.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 2 to 6 pm. A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church from 11 am until the 12 pm time of service with Rev. William Winston officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
To celebrate Junior's life the family would like to extend an invitation for food and fellowship, following the committal service, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Edward Gene Welch - January 09, 1949 - April 08, 2024

Obituary Preview: Edward Gene Welch, 75, of Kingwood, WV, passed away April 8, 2024, at the Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown.
He was born January 9, 1949, in Morgantown, a son of the late Rosealee (Awman) and Glenn Welch.
Ed was a 1968 graduate of Kingwood High School and proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Ed was a proud member of Chapter 306 Vietnam Veterans in Morgantown and was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post #826 and the NRA. He retired from the Albright Power Station in 2010 after nearly 40 years of service. He loved the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, camping, riding his Harley, or working on the family farm. Ed also enjoyed working on and restoring old farm tractors, going to the state fair, and most of all spending time with his family. He considered himself blessed with an additional 12 years of time with his family after a liver transplant, thanks to the generous donor, Edward Cosner.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carolyn (Cannon) Welch; one son, Travis Welch and wife Kelly of Albright; two sisters, Patricia Rodeheaver and husband James of Bruceton Mills and Phyllis Stanton and husband Rod of Albright; two grandchildren, Aubrey and Cooper Welch; mother-in-law, Bernice G. Cannon of the Lenox community and several nieces and nephews.

She was born in Meadville, PA on September 10, 1951, a daughter of the late George and Carmen Collingwood.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed working puzzles and coloring. When she was younger, she enjoyed traveling with J&J Amusements and enjoyed the carnival. Her greatest love came from spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by her husband, Carl Lewis of Kingwood; two sons, David Collingwood and wife Kathy of Kingwood and George Collingwood and wife Trish of Bretz; one daughter, Esther Cole and husband Terry of Kingwood; her stepchildren with Willard; grandchildren, Kayla McCrobie and husband Jason, Hayle Collingwood, Taylor Delgado and husband Brent, Shane Washington and wife Rebekah, Samantha Rambo and companion Codie, Shyanna Johnson and companion Frank Audia, Samantha Collingwood and companion Ashton Adams and Dakota Collingwood; great-grandchildren, Kayden, Kage, Johnnie, Avalynn, Jaelynn, Oakleigh, Sophia, Nevaeh, Frankie and Aria and two sisters, Ermal Yoho and husband George of Aliquippa, PA and Helen Gould.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard Fortney and one son, John Collingwood.

She was born in Hudson, WV, on October 16, 1931, a daughter of the late Asbury Howard and Irene (Keefover) Gibson.
She was a 1948 graduate of Masontown High School. Juanita loved hand quilting. She would gift her children and grandchildren their own quilts. Juanita won many awards and ribbons for the beautiful pieces she had made. She enjoyed traveling, especially on cruises. Juanita also enjoyed watching WVU sports, the deer, and hummingbirds that were often found in her backyard.
Juanita is survived by two sons, Roger Moran and wife, Diane, and Rick Moran and companion Carla Pell; five grandchildren, Christine Morelli and husband, Eric, Christopher Moran, Courtney Haynes and husband, Luke, Jessica Glotfelty and husband, Chris, Joshua Moran and wife, Jessica; eight great grandchildren; brother, William Gibson; sister, Vida McCord; dog, Buddy and cat, Smokey.
In addition to her parents, Juanita is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Gerald Moran; daughter, Karen L. Moran; stepdaughter, Linda Toothman; brothers, Dennis Gibson and Gordon Thomas Gibson, and sisters, Janet Gamble and V. Blanche Taylor.

Kim was a 1985 graduate of West Preston High School. She was part owner of S&K Sanitation. Kim enjoyed shopping, listening to music (especially 80s rock), camping, and most of all loved spending time with family.
In addition to her parents, Kim is survived by one daughter, Megan Hayes and husband, Josh of Kingwood; two sons, Jared Hovatter and wife, Katie, and Ryan Hovatter both of Masontown; two grandchildren, Amelia and Coen Hovatter; aunt, Geraldine Giuliani, and dog, Frankie.
Kim is preceded in death by her infant son, Justin Hovatter.

She was born in Albright, WV, on December 20, 1938, a daughter of the late Walter and Lottie (Howdershelt) Liston.
Maxine loved to work puzzles, cook, and bake. She took her job as a homemaker very seriously.
Maxine is survived by one daughter, Peggy Denkenberger (Mike) of Kingwood; one son, Paul J. Friend (Norma) of Dilliner, PA; grandchildren, Stacy Feather (Jordan) and their son, Jaxson and Erik Reynolds (BaiLee) and their daughter, Alexis; her twin sister Katheline Emerson of Kingwood, and sisters, Lucy Mayne of Arthurdale, Ida Row of Morgantown, and Betty Martino of Wadestown; one brother, Bobby Liston of Wadestown, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Maxine is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Vincent Paul Friend, and they spent their 64th anniversary (March 26) together in heaven; several brothers, sisters, half-brothers, and half-sisters.

She was born September 27, 1933, in Fort Grande, WV, a daughter of the late Claude Mae Hitchcock and Elizabeth Ann (Howell) Hitchcock.
Ida was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was an original Arthurdale Homesteader. Ida was protestant by faith and a true follower of Christ. She attended the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Ida was a member of Country Homemakers and loved to read, work puzzles, and crochet. At the age of 55 years old, she became a certified nurse's aide working at Sundale Nursing Home from 1989-1997 as a CNA and Rehabilitation Assistant.
Ida is survived by her devoted husband of 75 years, Claude Young Taylor; one daughter Claudette Frantz and husband, Gary Fike; one son, Jeffrey Scott Taylor and her "Little Earth Angel", Wendy Marie Taylor; son-in-law, Ed Craft; grandchildren, Mandy Mullens and husband, Phil, Todd Craft and wife, Miranda, Josh Frantz and wife, Jessica, Jonathan Frantz and wife, Mariah, Jason Frantz and wife, Rachel King, and Jeffrey Blaine Taylor; great grandchildren, Abby Mullens, Chloe Mullens, Bradyn Craft, Parker Craft, Lincoln Craft, Kaylee Rush, Emily Gibson, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ida is preceded in death by one daughter, Phyllis Elaine Craft; nine sisters, Daisy Mann, Violet, Virge "Pete", Zenith, Ethel, Mary Conner, Garnet Myers, Dorothy "Dot" Fox, and Arbutus "Boots" Taylor; five brothers, John Hitchcock, Fred Hitchcock, Morton Hitchcock, Burl Hitchcock, and Noal Hitchcock.

Bob was born in Hummelstown, PA on December 3, 1933, a son of the late Ray Luther and Hilda M. (Shirk) Carpenter.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He owned and operated Carpenter Excavating and Grading with his sons and also operated Carpenter's Dairy Farm. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, especially farming with his sons and grandchildren. He also enjoyed sitting on the porch with his friends. He liked going to farm shows, equipment auctions, going on cruises and going out to dinner. Bob was always willing to help his neighbors and had an answer to every question.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Jo (Gregg) Carpenter; one son, Robert "Bobby" Carpenter, Jr.; one daughter, Debra Clark; his grandchildren, Hunter, Heather, and Cara Carpenter, Shane, Matthew, Sean, Kate, and Stephanie; several great grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Robin Carpenter.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by two sons, Harold and Steven Ray Carpenter; twin brother, Ronald Clair Carpenter and brother, Gordon Carpenter.

She was born in Birds Creek, WV, on May 29, 1933, a daughter of the late Walter Franklin Sr. and Goldie Mable (Burke) Knotts.
Cathern was a loving mother, grandmother. She was a graduate of Newburg High School class of 1950. Then she married the love of her life, Chester "Tom" Borne June 20, 1953. She worked as a cook for the Preston County Schools for 25 + years. Cathern enjoyed quilting, crafts, and sewing. She also enjoyed flower gardening.
She is survived by three daughters, S. Yvonne Tayman and husband Joe and V. Jewell Moyer and husband Larry all of Kingwood and L. Renea Sebastian and husband Joe of Belle Vernon, PA; seven grandchildren, Jeremiah Tayman, Scott Moyer, Jeff Moyer, Travis Tayman, T.J. Sebastian, Tanner Sebastian, and Jennifer Jones and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chester "Tom", one brother, Walter Franklin Knotts Jr. and one sister, Idella Marie Kelley.
Private services will be held. The Field Funeral Home in Masontown is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be at the Arthurdale Cemetery.

Zac was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a 2015 graduate of Preston High School. He was employed by Allied Security as a security guard. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, four-wheeler riding and sitting around bonfires. Zac always put his family first and loved them beyond measure. He was always a momma's boy.
In addition to his parents, Zac is survived by his brothers, Justin Blake Snyder and wife Kayla of Bretz and Russell Snyder III and wife Andrea of Reedsville, Bryson Sines, Dakota Sines and Austin Sines of Terra Alta; Noah Savage and Cage Boyett of IL and Brett Tyman of Bretz; his sisters, Cassandra Varndell and husband Shane of Hopwood, PA, Rosa Mendez of Masontown and Tyla Guthrie of Hazelton, Selena Savage of Kingwood; grandparents, Connie Watkins; Patrica Taylor, Norma Metheny; several aunts, uncles; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Born on June 8, 1963, in Kingwood, WV, he was a son of the late Roy Donald and Clara Alice (Stafford) Turner.
Sammy was a 1982 graduate from West Preston High School. He was a trucker at heart, driving several years for Donald Turner Trucking. Sammy enjoyed watching Nascar and sports. He loved his animals, especially his deer that he would regularly feed. Sammy enjoyed summer pool parties with his wife, friends, "second wifey", Patty and "Little Sister", Nicole Johnson. Sammy's biggest joy in life was his family, especially his grandkids, nieces, and nephews.
Sammy is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Gina (Gamble) Turner; sons, Landry Turner and Ryan Turner; daughters, Heather Turner-McCrobie, Rachel Salisbury, and step-daughter Tai Forman; 15 grandchildren, Hannah, Madison, Grayson, Paisley, Hannah, Ila, Felicity, Winter, Taevien, Lochlan, Xavian, Brier, Lainey, Kylei, and Rayna; brothers, Larry Turner and wife, Barbara, Jeffery Turner and wife, Robin, and Danny Turner and wife, Carol; sister, Cathy Everly and husband, Mark; sister-in-law, Amy Turner; special nephew, Riley and many other nieces and nephews.

Skip was born in Morgantown, WV, on November 4, 1942, a son of the late James Marion Murray, Sr. and Virginia (Kain) Murray.
Skip was the owner and operator for S&P Trucking for over 20 years. He also drove for S&W Trucking. Skip loved visiting people but the one he enjoyed visits from the most was his grand-puppy Laila.
Skip is survived by his daughter, Pam Murray and fiancé, Kevin Bernoski; brother, Jerry "Jocko" Murray; sister, Shirley Dalton and grand-puppy, Laila.
In addition to his parents, Skip is preceded in death by his wife, Marianna (Wells) Murray; brothers, Larry "PeeWee" Murray, Ronnie "Dopey" Murray, and Scott "Pipeline" Murray; sisters, Bonnie Friend and Sandra "Sam" Dalton.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Skip's memory to the WVU Medicine Hospice, 12 Rousch Drive, Westover, WV 26501.

She was born in Grafton, WV on June 2, 1954, a daughter of the late Arthur Franklin and Betty Rosalee (Sanders) Shahan.
Debbie was a 1972 Newburg High School graduate. She went to Garrett Community College where she obtained an associate degree in criminal justice at the age of 46. Debbie attended New Life Ministries in Reedsville. She was strong in her faith and loved to sing at church, weddings, and funerals. Debbie was selfless, always wanting to lend a helping hand. She was a wonderful cook, each year hosting family Christmas so everyone could enjoy her meals. Debbie's greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandbabies.
Debbie is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Pete Pifer; two sons, Matthew Pifer of Reedsville, and Adam Pifer and wife Katelyn of Terra Alta; two grandchildren, Anderson Beck and Birdie Mae; brother, Charlie Shahan and wife, Nancy of Fellowsville; sister-in-laws, Bertie Trembly and husband, Charles of Terra Alta, and Cindy Moats of Parsons; several nieces and nephews and dog, Lizzy.

Steven was a beloved husband, father, brother, and son. After graduating high school, Steven started working in his family-owned business, Carpenter Excavating and Grading with his father and brother. When he wasn't working, he spent his free time farming. This was a hobby he shared with his son, and they have many fond memories on the farm. Anyone who knows Steven knows how well-known and loved he was in his community. It was always a goal of his to make those around him smile or laugh, even through his own pain.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Robin (Wershba) Carpenter; one son, Hunter Carpenter; one daughter, Heather Carpenter; one brother, Robert Carpenter, Jr.; three nieces, Cara Carpenter, Zoe Benson and Stephanie Troescher; two nephews, Max Benson and Dashiell Benson; father and mother-in-law, Martin and Ronda Wershba and one sister-in-law, Tara Benson.
Steven was preceded in death by his half brother, Harold Carpenter and many beloved friends that he is now reunited with.

Ronald is survived by his loving wife, Mary Catherine (Radabaugh) Bricker; two daughters, Rhonda Kay Johnson and husband, Lloyd and Teresa Shelton and husband, Jeremiah; grandchildren, Tamara Johnson, Harley Johnson, Keisha Ponceroff and husband, Zach, and Jacob Nestor and girlfriend, Kira Arbogast; soon to be great-grandchild, Adalyn Ponceroff, and several nieces and nephews.

She was born May 19, 1930, in Bretz, WV, the daughter of Glenn and Mabel (Johnson) Emerson.
Betty grew up in the Masontown, WV area. On May 22, 1948, she married Junior “Hoppy” Roy Casseday who preceded her in death October 2, 2017. She worked several years at the Sterling Faucet company in Reedsville, WV. After leaving there she took great pride in caring for her family. She and her husband were very active members of the Masontown Church of the Nazarene where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher and was very involved in the church’s missionary projects.
Betty is survived by her son Larry (Terry) of Elkins, WV, grandson Dr. Adam Casseday (Kadra) of Elkins, WV, and granddaughter Julie Casseday Stutler (Bret) of Winfield, WV, great-granddaughters Ruby and Annie Stutler and great-grandsons Vernon and Norman Casseday, brothers-in-law Richard Casseday (Carolyn), Phil Casseday, Jim Casseday (Diane), and Bob Casseday; sisters-in-law Iva Casseday and Doylene Davis (Ronnie) as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by sisters Frances Emerson and Helen Southall and brother Donald Emerson; brothers-in-law Rev. Lynn Casseday, Fred Casseday, Dave Molisee, Albert Shaffer, Bob Davis, and Eathel Southall; sisters-in-law Arlene Molisee, Eva Shaffer, Linda Emerson, and Kathleen Casseday; and niece Lanita Southall Vicars.
Friends may call the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 from 10 am until the 12-noon time of service at the funeral home with Rev. Tim Heaney officiating. Interment will follow in the Masontown Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Patricia Ann Reese, 81, of Westover, WV, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024, at Morgantown Healthcare Center.
She was born in Morgantown, WV on October 2, 1942, a daughter of the late David Cyrus and Virginia (Stewart) Reese.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. Her career as a Monongalia County art teacher began when she was a student teacher at the old Sabraton Junior High School. She was hired as a Mon County art teacher in 1974, teaching at the former Westover Junior High School, South Junior High and retired from University High School in 2004. As a teacher she was loved and respected by her students and many considered her a mentor.
In addition to her classroom expertise, she was also active in local and state art education associations. She was an active contributor to LOGO, an art education newsletter initiated by Monongalia County art teachers. LOGO, which featured local art education achievements, won the National Art Education Association's national newsletter award during the 1980s. LOGO eventually expanded to become a West Virginia newsletter for the West Virginia Art Education Association. Pat also attended and contributed to WVAEA and NAEA conferences and conventions. She also served as the art curriculum coordinator for Monongalia County, retiring in 2004.
As an artist, she was skilled in pen and ink drawing, printmaking and calligraphy. She often volunteered to hand letter certificates in schools where she taught. She exhibited her art locally and statewide. Her "Calla Lilly III" was selected for exhibit at the prestigious Biannual Juried Exhibition in 1991, which toured the state for a year and was sponsored by the West Virginia Cultural Center in Charleston. She and a colleague painted the mural in the gymnasium at South Middle School. She created her own work in her personal studio, at Zen Clay in Morgantown, where she also organized exhibits, staged window displays and created signs.
Patricia loved her dogs but most importantly, she loved spending time with her family.
Patricia is survived by one son, Keith Nolan of Arthurdale; two grandsons, Richie Nolan and wife Sarah of Arthurdale and Zach Nolan of Masontown; one great grandson, Arlin Nolan; a brother, Jimmy Reese and wife Betty of FL and a sister-in-law, Donna Reese.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, David Reese and one sister, Brenda Friend and her husband Ronald.
To honor her wishes, cremation services have been entrusted to the Field Funeral Home in Masontown. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
