Paul's dedication and skills further shone through his position as a stockroom clerk at Flightstar. However, Paul's true legacy lies in the connections he formed with people. Over the years, he built his family from the individuals he met, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. Paul's ability to impact others through his warmth and kindness will be dearly remembered by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Paul Bowman is survived by his son, Christopher (Rebecca) Bowman; brothers, Fred Bowman, Kenny Bowman; grandson, Brantley Hare; granddaughter, Elizabeth Hare; and a lot of friends that became a true family.

She was born on January 3rd, 1954, in Rutland, VT and was the second child of Claude and Pauline Taggart. In her twenties, Janet moved to Mobile, AL with her daughter Heather. There she met James L. Hughes, Jr., her husband for 42 years, and had their son Jamall. Janet worked in the chemical plant industry and made many friends, some of whom stayed close throughout her life. After retirement, Janet and James moved to Jacksonville, FL to be closer to their children and grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly. Janet loved animals and advocated for them all her life, having many beloved pets, and supporting several animal charities. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing, having fun with family and friends, and being “Grammy” to her grandchildren.

She is survived by her devoted husband James, her children Heather Gravelle-White (Sidney) of Orange Park, FL, and Jamall Hughes (Christina) of Jacksonville, FL, her two grandchildren Cameron and Keira White, of Orange Park, FL, her sister Claudia Layden of Rutland, VT, her niece Robyn Stein of Jacksonville, FL, her sisters in law Wanda Harvey and Sherri Gholston of Atlanta, GA and brother in law Patrick Hughes of Atlanta, GA..

He was born on July 17, 1940, in San Sabastian, Puerto Rico to the late Ramon Medina and Estrella Torres. Manuel was raised in Puerto Rico until his early teenage years when his family relocated to New York. Shortly after graduating high school, Manuel started his career in law enforcement and proudly served as a New York State Correction Officer for 25 years. He met his best friend and forever companion, Nelly Bibiana Flores, in the early 1960’s and they were happily married on July 25, 1964. Manuel was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He loved spending precious time with his family and cherished every moment. Following his retirement, Manuel and Nelly moved back to Puerto Rico for 27 years then made Jacksonville their home in 2022. They loved Puerto Rico and treasured their culture, traditions, and heritage. Manuel enjoyed fishing, watching New York Mets baseball as he was an avid fan, and playing dominos with his family. Manuel was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Manuel is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Nelly Flores of Jacksonville, FL; sons, Manuel Medina of Massachusetts, Victor Manuel (Bruny) Medina of St. Johns, FL, Carlos (Rebecca) Medina of New Hyde Park, NY; grandchildren, Chanoa, Jocelyn (Mike), Jared (Juliet), Jalynne, Eden, Rachel, and Emma; brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws; along with numerous extended family members and friends.

Obituary Preview: Joseph “Joe” Jenkins finished his work on Earth Wednesday, April 10, 2024. He was peacefully sent off to heaven surrounded by his family and friends. Joe was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL where he met his loving wife of 51 years, Sherry Jenkins. Joe graduated from Englewood High School in 1971 and served a brief term in the US Navy. Following his service, Joe embarked upon what would become a long and successful career in the plumbing supply industry. Joe’s career as a sales professional led him to build significant, lasting relationships within the trade industry. Joe grew to be a mentor and humble confidant to many of his peers and fellow industry professionals. Joe was dedicated and proud of the work he performed. However, his proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly the family he built. Joe poured himself into his family and was happiest around his wife and two sons. Joe was a man of relatively few hobbies. He was happiest spending his days on the boat pulling his boys in the tube or fishing. He also loved a good summer splash in the backyard pool with his family. Joe’s love for his family multiplied when he became a grandpa. His grandchildren filled his heart with pride and joy, and he loved nothing more than to bring laughter to their faces. Joe’s life on Earth was anchored by his faith in Jesus Christ and it was evidenced by his lifelong commitment to serving his church and the community around him. Joe had a generous heart and was most fulfilled by quietly lending a hand to those he saw in need. Joe is preceded in death by his father William “Bill” Jenkins: mother, Rosa Jenkins: niece Tara Robertson, and niece Amanda Knutson.

He is survived by his loving wife Sherry, sons Josh (Stephanie) and Tim (Tyler), and grandchildren Kinley, Ansley, William, Colton, and sister Ann (Tommy) May.

A Celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 11:00 am at Southpoint Baptist Church, 3335 Tiger Hole Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32216 with Pastor Terry Gore officiating. Franklin "Buddy" Mills Clardy - April 18, 1964 - March 22, 2024

Obituary Preview: In loving memory of Franklin Mills “Buddy” Clardy, 59, who passed away on March 22, 2024. Buddy loved making people laugh and was always ready to give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He was a caring and thoughtful son, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend.

Buddy was born to Franklin and Melinda Clardy on April 18, 1964 in Jacksonville, FL. During his youth, he loved karate and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his aunt and uncle. Buddy attended Ribault High School and Florida State College at Jacksonville, after which he went on to serve in the U.S. Navy. Buddy later spent several years in Fort Lauderdale, eventually returning to his hometown.

Loving Buddy meant loving him through both good and difficult times, and for many, it meant loving him from afar. Buddy’s ongoing struggles strained and complicated many of his relationships. However, he loved his friends and family dearly, even spending many years caring for his mother in the midst of his own illness.

To those who knew him, Buddy was a goofball with a heart of gold. He loved telling jokes and laughing, and he always had a special place in his heart for his pets, many of whom were rescues. Buddy’s close friends also knew of his lifelong love of peaches. Even during some of the worst times of his illness, he was always glad to sit down and share a peach with a good friend.

Buddy is preceded in death by his father, Franklin, and his sister, Susan. He is survived by his mother, Melinda; his sister, Katherine; his brother, Alexander; and many nieces and nephews. His legacy will continue on through memories of his kind heart. He was clear that, when he passed, he wanted his loved ones to have a party. His life will be celebrated on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11 am at Acts2 Church, 1804 Miller St., Orange Park, FL 32073.

Obituary Preview: Hicks – Jimmy Darrell Hicks, age 93, of Fleming Island, FL passed away on March 1, 2024, at Diamond Assisted Living Facility with his loving family by his side. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on July 20, 1930, to the late Gordon O. and Ruth Waldron Hicks. Jimmy was raised in Jacksonville and grew up on the lake. While in school, he met his best friend and forever companion, Evelyn “Jean” Tarlton. They dated for several years until happily marrying on January 1, 1952. Jimmy graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1948 and earned his Associate of Arts degree from the University of Florida. He was passionate about the water, loved swimming, was a Lifeguard at Jacksonville Beach during his teenage years, and swam on a comedy diving team while at the University of Florida. After college, Jimmy joined the United States Air Force and proudly served our country during the Korean War. He was active duty for several years and joined the Air National Guard where he worked in their Accounting and Finance Department for 43 years until his retirement. Jimmy loved being in the air, found great joy as a pilot, and even started the Aero Club at the Air National Guard. He also loved serving and enjoyed his time on the Jax Federal Credit Union Board of Directors and also coaching adult basketball and softball. In the 1990’s, Jimmy and Jean moved to the Villages where they resided for over 20 years. Upon leaving The Villages they resided in Gainesville for several years and have spent the last 3 years in Fleming Island. More than anything, Jimmy loved his family and enjoyed spending precious time with them. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Sandra Hicks Fielden.

She was born on April 25, 1934, in Citra, Florida to the late Barney Cheshire and Hatte Mae John Cheshire. Joanne was known as Mema “Memaw” to most. She was raised in Citra, Florida, and married her best friend and forever companion, Melvin Bryan Gibson, in Ocala on September 17, 1953. Later that year, Joanne and Melvin moved to Jacksonville. Joanne resided in the same home for 57 years until she had a stroke in 2020 and moved in with her son, Eric and family. Joanne had many passions in life, but her family was most important. She loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She served for years as the Treasurer at the Marietta Senior Center and loved helping the elderly when she was able. Years ago, Joanne enjoyed traveling with the Evangel Temple Assembly of God Primetimers to help grow God's Kingdom and spread the gospel. She loved her Lord and Savior and loved her church family. Joanne also enjoyed bowling, shopping, fishing, and exercising. She found great joy in spending time with her family, having Friday night game nights, and playing solitaire. Joanne was known for enjoying a good meal and liked to try new dishes. Joanne was cherished by many and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband of 40 years, Melvin Bryan Gibson; sons, Randal Burt Gibson, Melvin “Barry” Gibson.

She was born in Live Oak, Florida on December 23, 1929, to the late Riley Oliver Hughes and Roxie Ava Cornelius Hughes. Frances was raised in Georgia and moved to Jacksonville, Florida after graduating from Statenville Consolidated School. Her first job was at a Cigar Factory in Jacksonville, then she served at Mathers Furniture in their upholstery department, and finally dedicated 22 years at Sears making curtains, drapes, and upholstery. Frances was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who lovingly raised her 6 children. She was proud to be a mother and loved tending to her family. She was passionate about sewing, crocheting, and quilting. Throughout the years she made hundreds of bedspreads, quilts, quilows which was a combination of a quilt that transitions into a pillow, along with clothing. Frances loved to make others feel special and gave many handmade gifts to family and friends. She was a longtime faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville where she enjoyed attending and worshipping. Frances had a green thumb and found great joy in the fragrance and aesthetics of her rose flower bed. More than anything, Frances loved her family and enjoyed spending precious time with them. She was certainly treasured by her family and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Clifford, F.B. “Frank, and Dewey Hughes; 3 sisters, Mary Ellen Cobb, Donice McCullers, and Barbara Ann Leach; son, Harrel Richard “Rick” Wiggins; daughter, Amanda Renee’ Wiggins Ware; and daughter-in-law, Carmen Wiggins.

Frances is survived by her loving children, C.M. Kathy was born in Fairhope, Alabama on February 1, 1962 to the late Manon Johnston, Jr., and Ann Crozier Johnston. Kathy and her family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida when she was young. She graduated from Nathan B. Forrest High School in 1980 and shortly after she earned an AA degree in Business from Florida Community College of Jacksonville. In 1985, Kathy started working at Jacksonville Transportation Authority as a Payroll Supervisor. While at work, she met the love of her life, Samuel Douglas Mackey, Jr., and they were happily married on May 6, 1989. Kathy was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend who loved her family dearly. After dedicating nearly 13 years at JTA she started her employment at Cypress Truck Line where she has served since 1998. In her younger years Kathy and her family would take trips to Lake Weir over the summer where they had a vacation home. She loved the outdoors, being on the lake and more recently enjoyed making memories at Kingsley Lake in Starke, Florida. She attended Shindler Drive Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida, where she enjoyed worshipping her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Kathy also enjoyed reading and traveling; but more than anything, Kathy was passionate about her daughters, her dogs, spending time with family, and making sweet memories with those she cherished. She was a true treasure and will be missed by all who knew her. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband of nearly 33 years, Samuel Douglas Mackey, Jr.

Kathy is survived by her daughters, Haley Mackey of Jacksonville, FL and Kimberly (Travis) Duncan of Starke, FL; brothers, Eddie (Debi) Johnston of Jacksonville, FL and Jimmy (Theresa) Johnston of Middleburg, FL; numerous extended family members and friends.

She was born in Gainesville, Georgia on November 15, 1929, to the late George M. Cagle and Ruby Anna Jordan Cagle. Virginia was raised in Gainesville, Georgia and attended Lyman Hall High School. She grew up on a farm and helped her father tend to their land until starting her own family. Virginia was very talented and was an amazing Seamstress. She loved sewing and found much joy in making her daughters outfits throughout the years. As a mother, Virginia’s focus was on raising her seven children and tending to her home, but later in life she enjoyed serving at Sears Department Store and at Nikolai’s Sewing Factory as a Seamstress. Virginia and her family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida in August of 1964 and she met her best friend and forever companion, William Richard Mattson, Sr. in the early 1970’s. On May 27, 1978, William Richard and Virginia were happily married and have enjoyed the past 45 years of marriage. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed time with her family more than anything. She was known for her green thumb, loved gardening, reading her Bible, listening to gospel music especially the Gaither’s and Daniel O’ Donnell, and solving crossword puzzles. Virginia was a longtime member of North Jacksonville Baptist Church where she thoroughly enjoyed attending, being filled, and having fellowship with her church family. Virginia was a treasure to her family and friends, her legacy was great, her memory will be cherished, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; former spouse and father to her children, Captain Luke Jones; sisters, Madge Cagle, Irene Saxson, and Sue Lowe; and son-in-law, Douglas Jones.

When not working, she enjoyed crocheting, observing God’s great creations, especially loved seeing the ocean, and attending the First Christian Church in Kansas where she was a longtime member. Later in life, Beni took her first cruise and absolutely fell in love. She enjoyed many Carnival Cruises and became a Diamond member. More than anything, Beni was a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edgar Brown; three brothers, 3 sisters, and daughter-in-law, Pamela Paddock.

He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on June 21, 1946, to the late Warren Duncan and Inez McClain Duncan. Patrick was a lifelong resident of Duval County and graduated from New Station High School in 1964. In 1965, Patrick joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served our great country during the Vietnam War. While in the military, Patrick was a Staff Sergeant, and his primary specialty was Aircraft Fuel Supervisor. After nearly 12 years of service, Patrick was honorably discharged and then worked for several years at Jacksonville International Airport for Eastern Airline and later at Cecil Airport. When not working, Patrick enjoyed traveling, fishing, and was known for his love of collecting airplane and train models. More than anything, Patrick enjoyed spending time with family and his close friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl “Tony” Duncan; and sister, Sandra Duncan.

Patrick is survived by his daughters, Leslie and Jayla Duncan; siblings, Delores (Ralph) Tice, Warren (Deidre) Duncan, II, Iris Duncan (Stephen) Joyce, Celeste (Herman) Donaldson, Victor Duncan, Wanda L. Cathy was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She had a long successful career as a Food Service Manager and proudly served at Baptist Medical Center Downtown, St. Vincent’s Riverside, Burger King, and AT&T. Later in life, she enjoyed being a caretaker and tending to those who needed assistance. Cathy enjoyed attending the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville when she was able, but enjoyed listening to services online. She also enjoyed reading Joyce Meyers books and watching Joyce Meyers sermons. Cathy enjoyed cooking for her family and was known for her love of grocery stores especially Food Lion, going to yard sales and collecting nik naks. Cathy was so very loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Oland Taylor, Sr.; son, Donnie Taylor, Jr.; grandson, Donnie Taylor, III; brother, Albert L. Berry; and sister, Etta West.

After graduation, she worked at SunTrust Bank for a few years until attending the Tom Rose Dog Training school in St. Louis, Missouri. Jessica was most passionate about animals, especially dogs. Jessica Volunteer at the animal shelter, she loved sports, and enjoy the different sports Seasons. Jessica loved books and was an avid reader. In 2012, Jessica relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where she owned, operated, and was a Dog Trainer at River City Dog Training. Jessica was very successful and enjoyed her career. She also enjoyed shooting pool with her friends who she considered family. Jessica was full of life, lived to the fullest, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Jessica was blessed to have wonderful friends. Jessica loved each and every one of her friends. Her wonderful friends covered her with genuine love. They sent her loving and healing prayers and messages everyday while she was in the hospital. Her caring and loving friends were at the hospital until her last moments of life. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Cletus and Darlene Hellweg; maternal grandparents, Candelaria and Hernando Restrepo; and aunt, Elizabeth “Betty” Kramer.

He had several NASCAR collectables and enjoyed watching every race. He also collected baseball caps and had a large collection. Roger was certainly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Ashley; and brother-in-law, David Hickman.

A love for learning began early in Todd’s life and continued throughout. Topics of interest were many and varied. Todd enjoyed boating, saltwater fishing, metal detecting and target shooting. Todd worshipped at Evangel Temple Assembly of God in Jacksonville. More than anything, Todd loved his family and enjoyed spending precious time with them. He was truly cherished and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Todd is survived by his loving mother, Loyce Padrick of Jacksonville; daughters, Ainsley (Tanner Gaugler) Padrick and Gillian Padrick, both of Jacksonville; sister, Gena (Doug) Heathcoat of Jacksonville; nephew, Nathan Heathcoat; niece, Natalie (Chandler) Merritt; along with numerous extended family members and friends. Todd was preceded in death by his father, Gene Padrick.

Shawn had a passion to enjoy everyday life! He was an avid Jaguars, Packers, and Gators fan, he loved football. He always enjoyed a great cup of coffee, and his favorite food was Pepperoni Pizza – That’s Amore’. His contagious smile and warm personality always touched everyone around him. He was a true Gem. He loved the LORD Jesus, his wrestling, bowling and any activity presented to him. He loved his family, including his Group Home family and Day Program friends. Shawn was very compassionate, outgoing, and always wanted to help others. He will be missed by many, but he celebrates in his pure, gold home in Heaven. No more cancer, no more pain, no more handicaps. Shawn is perfect and free.

He is survived by his sister, Lisa (Bynum) Luft (husband, Jon), nephews; Hardy Holland IV (wife, Samantha), Michael Holland, niece, Heather (Holland) Danyus (husband, Roy), and 2 great nieces; Audrey Schultz and Abbie Holland.
