Obituary Preview: Santiago Diaz, age 84 of Houston entered into eternal rest on April 24, 2024 surrounded by close family.
Santiago "Jimmy" Diaz was born on July 25, 1939 in Danevang, Tx. He grew up in the surrounding city of El Campo, TX.
His parents, Jose and Gavina Diaz, instilled in him the importance of working hard for his family. At a very young age, Jimmy and his siblings helped their parents work cotton fields to support the family. His commitment to working hard carried on throughout his life and this later made him a good provider for his own family.
Jimmy was a good family man and a believer of the gospel and all the teachings of the Bible. Many will remember him for his far reaching generosity and how he was always willing to volunteer or contribute to family and friends. Although sometimes he could be stern, Jimmy was also a very down to earth individual who had a big smile and an even bigger sense of humor. He loved to make people laugh with jokes or his expressions when telling stories of recollections of his past.
In later years, Jimmy moved to Houston, Tx, to start a new chapter in his life. In Houston, as the Lord would have it, he met Irene Arredondo who would later become his wife. Jimmy bought a house in Denver Harbor and they both started their lives together building their own family. Jimmy last worked for Houston METRO where he retired from.
Jimmy will continue to be in our hearts and minds. His legacy will continue on in everyone that loved and knew him.

I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see. ‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed! Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; ‘Twas grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead us home. When we’ve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun. Amazing Grace how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.

Arturo Jimenez Perez - April 28, 1938 - May 19, 2024

Departed: 05/19/2024 (Houston)
Obituary Preview: Arturo Jimenez Perez was born on April 28, 1938 and entered into eternal rest on May 19, 2024. Arturo was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and immigrated to the United States in 1962, where he found his passion in the restaurant industry. In 1977, he founded Su Casa Restaurant located in the historic Magnolia Park district of Houston. He was extremely proud of the restaurant and despite being told it was a bad location, it went on to be ranked #3 of the top 25 restaurants in Houston City Magazine in the 80s.
Due to the success of the restaurant, Arturo was well known and respected in the community. Although the business succumbed to the downturn of the economy, his respect outlived the existence of the restaurant. Arturo was no stranger to adversity, having endured the loss of his wife and youngest son and years later having lost a daughter he persevered and continued in the restaurant industry, ultimately retiring from Kirby Marine as head chef.
However, Arturo did not retire from having a busy schedule as he was more than willing to help his children in their business ventures. He was also willing to accept any challenge or task sent his way such as addressing car issues, working on home projects or anything where he could use his wisdom and experience to help his children. His help was given whether it was solicited or not and in fact, he was a true renaissance man as it was rare to find someone who could not only change the oil in a car, but who could also prepare a delicious paella. He took pride in cooking for his family and rarely sat down to eat, as his appetite was satisfied from the enjoyment the others took from his food. When the duties of coordinating the family gatherings were passed down to his children, he relinquished only the location of the celebration, but kept his role as head chef, by giving directions as to what and how the meal would be prepared. Arturo endured further hardships including a series of serious health scares, but it did not affect his strong personality. He never let these adversities set him back, and in a manner showing his stubborn and funny persona he would always tell his doctors “I’m still here.” He never failed to inject humor into any situation and was known for many catch phrases, he either made up or heard along the way. One of the phrases that would catch you by surprise and ultimately serve as an ice breaker would be, “are you mad at me.”
Arturo spent most of life in the United States, even attaining citizenship later in life, but still enjoyed traveling to Mexico and spending time with his family. It was not uncommon for him to take his children on spontaneous road trips. He especially enjoyed spending time with his brother, Tony who affectionately gave him the nickname, El Tejano. Arturo had many other nicknames, including Guero, Copi, Mr. Anejo, Mr. Magnolia, Don Arturo, Dad, Pa, Papa Turo, Grandpa and Popo. Although difficult to do, suffice to say that someone with so many monickers certainly lived up to all of them, especially Papa Turo, Grandpa and Popo. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents Joaquin Jimenez Perez and Soledad Perez Velasco, his siblings Joaquin, Jorge, Margarita, Soledad, and Antonio, by his wife Pomposa and his children, Alberto and Allyson. He is survived by his sisters Maria Elena, Teresa, and Delfina, his children Arturo Jr., Alejandro, Arnoldo, Alma, Araceli, Adriana, Aidee, Armando, Adrian, Ashley, and Alyssa, by Omar and Lauren, to whom he was a father figure, as well as 26 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, and two more on the way!
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2024, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Felix H. Morales Funeral Home, Houston, Texas with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, 10:30 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
The Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
All services are under the care of Morales Funeral Home. For any questions or concerns regarding the services for Arturo Jimenez Perez, please contact Morales Funeral Home at (713) 223-1167.

Obituary Preview: Cristina Lopez as she preferred to be called, was born on February 14th, 1958 in Guatemala City, Guatemala. She was called to paradise by our heavenly Father on May 19th, 2024.
Due to life circumstances she immigrated to United States in the 80's where she made Houston, Tx her second home. In addition, she was always willing to help with anything and everything at her church.
At home, one of her hobbies was cooking traditional Guatemalan dishes for her family, but also had a special love for Mexican cuisine which she was great at as well.
She has left a great void in our hearts and lives. We will always remember and cherish her laughs, jokes, sayings, and most importantly her motherly and spiritual advises. We have faith that one day we will reunite in heaven with our beloved mother.
