Alejandro Lavezzare - February 26, 1933 - May 01, 2024

Departed: 05/01/2024 (Astoria)
English:
Born in 1933, the eldest son of four to his Italian father and Ecuadorian mother in the Province of Los Rios, Ecuador, his life’s journey was exemplary of hard work, perseverance and excitement.
Into his adult life, his passion for swimming made him renowned in his town of Mocache. He often practiced swimming against currents in the rivers and often became a spectacle for those who observed him. He competed against other swimmers from the region, often winning titles and the hearts of many. His active lifestyle and ambitious nature also led him to participate in crosstown cycling marathons, play in volleyball matches and partake in heavy lifting competitions.
In his 20s, he started his career in Agriculture with his farm in Ecuador, where he harvested cacao, corn and rice and became the main producer for his community. Later, his interests in film and production led him to pursue entrepreneurial prospects to own his first theatre. He invested his earnings from his other businesses – to obtain the latest films and bring the most coveted movies of the time to his humble town, such as “Anaconda”, “Tarzan” and “The Right to Live”.
In 1974, he immigrated to the United States, where he adapted to New York City life to provide a better opportunity for his six children back home. In between jobs, he could often be found walking down the street of Kaufman Studios, with hopes of being chosen as an actor in the next film. His idols were Johnny Wiessmmuller, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Bruce Lee, Cantinflas, Chuck Norris, Slyvester Stallone and many more. His last job landed him on the corner of 21st and 35th Ave, where he served hot dogs and became known as The Hot Dog Man.
In his retirement, he continued his hobbies and frequently engaged in plays and performances where he would sing songs to bring happiness and joy. He always carried his microphone and CD case and never missed an opportunity to sing. His passion for singing led him to perform in centers and on Latin Nights at Athen's Square Park, where his voice resounded like a cannon in the hearts of many, especially his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends who knew him.
You have left us with great emptiness in our lives and sadness within our hearts.
You took flight without any baggage and left us with the hopes of meeting you again.
We love you and will miss you forever.
Have a great flight.

Etty Kadragich - March 23, 1922 - April 18, 2024

Departed: 04/18/2024 (Astoria)
Obituary Preview: Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Etty Kadragich passed away on April 18, 2024, peacefully, at home. She was 102 years old.
Over the course of more than a century, Etty’s life took many twists and turns. She was born in Newport, Rhode Island, spent her toddler years living on Riverside Drive in New York City, went to Croatia at the age of 3 and grew up on the idyllic Dalmatian coast for the next 25 years. Fleeing war-torn Yugoslavia and Communism, she returned to the United States in the 1950s and started over, ultimately settling in Astoria, Queens, where she raised her family and resided for over 60 years, until she was 95 years old. Then she began a new chapter, after her husband passed away, when she moved to Westchester to live with her daughter and son-in-law, where she stayed for her final years. She delighted in her family, welcomed her first great-grandchild when she was 99 years old, celebrated her 100th birthday in style at a party in her honor surrounded by friends and family, recovered from major surgery the next year, and survived Covid at the age of 101.
Etty spoke four languages fluently – Croatian, Italian, English and French – the latter being her first language, because it was the only language her parents (a Greek father and Croatian mother) had in common when they met. She kept nearly 100 years of letters to and from family and friends in all four languages.
Etty had an indomitable spirit of optimism and grace, maintaining a cheerful outlook that was truly inspiring. She was deeply religious, and relied on her faith to sustain her through the many hardships and challenges she faced throughout her life. She was proud of both her Greek and Croatian heritage. She was guided by a strong moral compass, believed in honesty above all, and devoted herself to her family. She was an inspiration in so many ways – intelligent, funny, kind and warm-hearted, and a constant, loving presence in our lives. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her daughter Miriam (Tony), son Jeffrey (Lucille), daughter-in-law Grace, grandchildren Katherine (Josh), Alex, Jennifer (Parker), Daniel (Andrew), and two great-grandsons, Zachary and Elias. She was predeceased by her beloved son Peter and husband Zafer, both of whom we carry in our hearts, now along with Etty, forever. May their memories be a blessing.
