Christian Stauffer - November 28, 1932 - March 20, 2024

Departed: 03/20/2024 (Fort Wayne)
Obituary Preview: Christian Stauffer, age 91, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024 in Fort Wayne. He was born in Fort Wayne to the late Daniel and Anna Stauffer. Chris developed a fierce work ethic from an early age and quickly established himself in the home building industry. For 50 years, Chris Stauffer Homes was a leading home builder in Fort Wayne and surrounding areas. The company was more than just a business; he worked alongside his wife, Susan, to develop a reputation for caring about his employees, customers, and quality. He was an active member of the Fort Wayne Home Builders Association and served a term as its president. He was also an enthusiastic participant in the Fort Wayne Business Forum and created many lasting friendships from these organizations. On November 22, 2002, Fort Wayne mayor Graham Richard declared "Chris Stauffer Day" in recognition of his commitment to the community. Chris was also appointed as a Sagamore of the Wabash by Indiana governor Frank O'Bannon for his service to the people of Indiana. While Chris was happiest with "mud on his shoes" from hard work, he always found time for numerous other passions. Over his lifetime, he was an avid runner, motorcycle rider, amateur SCCA race car driver, and long-distance bike rider. In every endeavor, he looked for the opportunity to test the limits of his ability. The greatest showcase of this passion was completing 5 road bike rides across America. In 2009, at 77, his team became the oldest group to complete the 3,021-mile course in a record-setting 8 days, 14 hours, and 49 minutes. His comments after that achievement are the perfect summary of a life lived to the fullest, "If you have faith, family, friends, and health, you are wealthy."
Chris is survived by his wife of 38 years, Susan Stauffer; children, Terry Stauffer, Jill (CJ) Mayer, Mitch (Mimi) Stauffer, and Joel (Jill Frederickson) Grove; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and brother/sister-in-law, Mark and Chris Rupp. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. A Celebration of Life is 11:00 am, Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Covenant United Methodist Church, 10001 Coldwater Rd., with calling two hours prior beginning at 9:00 am. Kay Lynne Hill - December 05, 1956 - March 21, 2024

Departed: 03/21/2024 (Fort Wayne)
Obituary Preview: Kay is now reunited with her beloved husband and soul mate, James H. Hill, II; her grandparents; father, Donald Richard Slattery and her many four-legged children. Do not grieve for Kay as she is finally at peace. She has won the war against her failing body and the separation from Jim.
Kay was a true force to be reckoned with. Her determination, independence and the never backing down from a fight was often viewed by some as gruff, confrontational and downright bitchy; however, those of us who really knew her, knew better. She was a strong woman, who had her faults, but most others secretly wanted to have even a shred of her strength and tenacity.
Kay’s maternal grandparents were founding members of Peace Lutheran Church, she was member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 296 for many years and loved riding a motorcycle and playing poker.
Kay was a legal assistant for over 30 years and throughout that time, the Three Musketeers was formed. There were many nights on the back deck with Karla and Rachel analyzing current legal issues, alleged case scenarios, and other legal topics. For Karla and Rachel, there will be no replacement and the Three will become Two.
Kay forged friendships with recent co-workers from Bed, Bath & Beyond. She enjoyed the monthly parties where they continued to spend time together, laughing and just relaxing by the fire.
Kay was deliberate in choosing her pall bearers and each one of these men were important to her. We thank Zion Kinnee, Shane Atkinson, Todd Moeller, Lucas Isaacs, Kyle Gough, and Patrick Slattery. Kay loved, admired and was proud to have you in her life in whatever capacity.
Kay is survived by her mother, Carmen F. Ortstadt Seeman; brother, Patrick A. (Karen) Slattery; sisters, Karla Warner and Rachel (Dave Kinnee) McNeely (The Two Musketeers); several cousins; Webster; and many other friends and adopted family.
We appreciate the staff from Heartland Hospice and the staff at Fairhaven Funeral Home. Fairhaven has been entrusted with Kay’s care and wishes as we all CELEBRATE her life with laughter, dancing and maybe (probably) a few beers.
Service is 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton St., with calling one hour prior. Calling also 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Highland Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.

Kosmas Pereklis Skembos - February 22, 1931 - March 06, 2024

Departed: 03/06/2024 (Fort Wayne)
Obituary Preview: Kosmas Pereklis Skembos, 93, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. Born in Polykerasou, Kastoria, Greece/Macedonia on February 22, 1931, in a small village called Cheresnitsa to the late Pereklis and Sultana Skembos.
In his youth, he took care of fields, livestock, his younger brother, ill father and his mother with such strength and endurance. He survived a war-torn life against numerous enemies continually attacking in and around his village. He was taken at the tender age of 16 and was forced to be a soldier like so many of his friends and relatives. They fought against these Enemies and against starvation.
At the age of 19, he came to the United States on March 24, 1951. He learned English and became a US Citizen. He proudly displayed his United States Flag and wore a United States Flag on his lapel.
He met his “Agape” his love, Milka, at a Macedonian Convention. He learned how to speak and write Macedonian to communicate with her and married her November 20, 1955. After 66 years he lost the love of his life, he faithfully sat at her side never leaving until her last breath.
He initially worked in his uncle’s restaurant as a busboy, moving on to a become a baker and retiring after 40 years from Holseum Bakery. He was a master gardener growing grapes, peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers.
His passion was music. He started the first Macedonian Band in Fort Wayne playing drums, trumpet, and finally his love the saxophone. He loved writing love songs for Milka. He would always bring his saxophone out at family gatherings and play so that we could all dance in the family room. No one could beat Milka and Kuzo dancing at the Ball or Weddings. They had so much energy that no one, and I mean no one, could keep up with them. Kuzo loved the Jitterbug swinging his wife around, then his daughters and especially his granddaughters. He was very proud of his grandsons and their passion for music as well.
He will be remembered by his grandchildren with their clapping competitions, and his great grandchildren with his fake dog barking antics.
He was proud of his heritage, his culture, and his Orthodox religion. As an author he wrote his memoirs to capture it all in his book I Left the Village to Come to America. Kuzo crossed himself every night before going to bed. His famous words, “God first in my Life”.
He was preceded in death by his wife Milka, parents Sultana and Pereklis, and brother Nicholas. He is survived by his daughter Olga (Gerald) Roszkowski, son Vasil (Susan) Skembos, and daughter Nancy Black Hildebrand. Grand Children John (Rachel) Roszkowski, Lindsey (Eric) Green, Christie (Tyler) Kleinschmidt, Paige (Garrett) Sutton, Billy, Stephanie (Mark), Thomas Skembos, Michael, Claire, Jessica (Toby) Black, and Dirk Hildebrand. Great grandchildren, Laiken, Addy, Isla Millie Green, Ryker Kosmas, Esther Roszkowski and Levi Black.
Funeral service is at 11 am, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at St Nicholas Cathedral, 3535 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne, IN with visitation one hour prior.
