Are you struggling to find the right words for your eulogy? Look no further. Our Example Eulogy for a Workmate And Friend gives you a heart-felt, touching template that makes this difficult task a bit easier.

Good morning everyone. My name is Kym Mosey, and I am the Open Cut Mining Superintendent at TGO. I stand before you with a heavy heart to honour the memory of our friend and colleague, Mitch Petrie, who left a significant impact on each one of us.

Mitch was not only a loving father and a doting, dedicated partner, but also a teammate and a friend. Over the last 10 years, I have had the privilege of working alongside him on many occasions.

From the inception of open cut operations at Tomingley Gold with MAAS, to becoming a key leading operator with TGO, Mitch ventured through various opportunities at North Parkes, Coates, and National Rail. He eventually returned to TGO, joining the underground team before happily finding his way back to Open Cut – where he once told me that he "felt most at home with his work family".

One true fact I know about Mitch is that through these ventures, he influenced every individual with his charismatic personality, making an endless list of friends. Today's attendance is a true reflection of this.

Mitch was a charismatic individual who effortlessly attracted attention, from his flawless skin complexion that often drew envious comments from his female team mates, to his mannequin-style dress code. He was truly unique. I often recall a comment from a team mate, saying that Mitch’s presence "lights up the room and creates an air of energy".

On the work front, Mitch was a master of his craft and an expert at his skills. He could operate just about every piece of heavy equipment to finesse perfection and was regarded as one of TGO's greatest production excavator operators. More recently, he displayed excellence in his progression to trialing his supervisory skills. His skills, combined with his engaging personality, defined him as a true natural leader.

I have so many memorable events about Mitch, especially the "larrikin" side of him that we all loved. I could probably go on for days, but I want to share one story that goes back to 2013-2014. Mitch was a budding young operator working the MAAS 200-ton digger in the Caloma 1 pit, in a joint venture with TGO 777 dump trucks. We had a graduate engineer doing his time in the dump trucks, heading back to Mitch for another load of dirt. As the young engineer came around the corner, there was Mitch, half-naked and perched on top of the counterweight, in full view of his coworker. Well, Mitch, in his pursuit of productivity and efficiency, quickly finished his business, pulled up his pants, and rushed back to his cab. He swung into action and spotted the truck in for loading. Mitch then asked over the radio if the young truck driver happened to have any clean rags in his cab, as he’d run out. Out of respect for the now-mortified graduate engineer, I won’t reveal his name, but I can tell you he is now the current open cut mine manager.

One thing that I will miss, and I am sure many others will as well, are Mitch's unique, let's say, very descriptive messages.

As we gather here to remember Mitch, let us celebrate the life he lived, the love he shared, and the impact he had on each of our lives. His laughter, wisdom, and spirit will always be with us as an inspiration and a legacy. May we carry that forward each day as we remember the exceptional person that Mitch Petrie was.

Thank you, Mitch, for the impact you had on our lives. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
