Robert "Bob" Krauski - July 16, 1947 - April 19, 2024

Departed: 04/19/2024 (Hartland)
Obituary Preview: Robert Anthony Krauski, age 76, of Monches Wisconsin passed away on Friday April 19, 2024.
Robert, or Bob as his friends and family knew him, was a second-generation Stained Glass Master Craftsman. Together, Bob and his wife Mary began Gemini Stained Glass Studio on the East Side of Milwaukee in the 1960s. They eventually moved to Monches to raise their two sons, Peter and Matthew, and opened Krauski Art Glass. Over the years, Bob mastered many different glass skills during his long career including etching and glazing, however he was well-known for his sandblasting skills. Early in his career, Bob traveled all over the country with his wife and sons showcasing his glass at art fairs. The Annual Monches Area Artisan Open House, every December, was another popular time when Krauski Art Glass would open their doors to the public and display all of their beautiful art.
Krauski Art Glass has pieces all over the country, but some of Bob’s most treasured pieces are within driving distance from Monches. Bob’s art can be viewed within the UW Madison Hospital Campus, multiple libraries including both North Lake Library and Hartland Public Library, multiple nature centers, churches, medical centers, private residences and many other places.
In Bob’s free time, which wasn’t often, he enjoyed being outside. Bob had large vegetable gardens in the summer. Bob was known to chop a tree or two down in the summer and spend the days splitting wood. He loved to take the boat he built out onto the pond and fish. He would sit by the bonfires in the summer and chat with his sons and their friends who loved talking politics with him. In the winter, Bob enjoyed making wood-stove fires.
In the last years of his life, Bob was the primary caregiver for his wife Mary who suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease. His dedication to caregiving allowed Mary to remain in her own house.
Bob leaves behind his wife Mary (Arendt), his sons Peter (Megan) Krauski and Matthew (Melissa) Krauski, his grandchildren Trenten (Hannah) Miner-Krauski, Eli (Sam) Krauski, Madelyn Krauski, Mason Krauski, his great-grandchildren Braylon Miner-Krauski and Mazie Miner-Krauski. He also leaves behind many other family members, colleagues and good friends.
A Celebration of Bob’s life will take place at a later date.

Claire was born at Deaconess Hospital in Milwaukee WI on July 10, 1923. When she was only seven months old, her mother noted in her baby book that Bernice (as Claire was then known) had “eyes as blue as violets.” A few years later, she and her family moved to Two Rivers, WI, where she spent the better part of her youth on the family dairy farm. Years later, she often remarked that “you can take the girl out of the farm, but you can’t take the farm out of the girl.”

After her husband’s retirement from Abbott Laboratories, Claire and Charles moved to Gurnee, IL, where they purchased and fixed up an old house on 3-acres. Every spring they planted a huge garden, including giant pumpkins that became Claire’s pride and joy.
In addition to loving and caring for her husband and two daughters, Claire found time to enjoy ceramics, and camping. Mary Anne Doyle - August 19, 1932 - March 24, 2024

Departed: 03/24/2024 (Hartland)
Obituary Preview: Mary Anne Doyle (nee Millot) died on March 24, 2024 at the age of 91 years. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James G. Doyle, and her son Michael (Katie). She is survived by her children, Kevin, Kathleen (Chris), Eileen Buske, Stacy Cashman, James (Amy), and, grandchildren Sean, Connor, and Kelly Burns, Tim Buske, Andy and Madeline Cashman, Patrick and Brigid Doyle, Joe and Danny "Pudge" Doyle, and Jason Lawson.
Even in her later years, Mary was active, bright, and “a tough little bird.” She was an avid golfer until the age of 90, and had three holes-in-one to prove it (though she would never brag about that). When not on the course, she could often be found in the stands of a Milwaukee Brewers game or, at the very least, watching from home with her dogs.
When it wasn’t baseball season, Mary would cheer on her college basketball teams, especially Marquette. She loved to read, play dominos, do crosswords, and win at cards, especially against her late husband, Jim, during their daily 4:00pm sharp gin rummy games.
Above all, Mary loved her family and going out to dinner. While the family she leaves behind misses her dearly, they are comforted to know she is reunited with her husband, Jim, and her beloved son Michael in heaven.

Rita M. Schroeder - February 03, 1936 - March 19, 2024

Departed: 03/19/2024 (Hartland)
Obituary Preview: Rita Schroeder 88, of Hartland, passed away peacefully at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc on March 19, 2024. Rita was born in Marcy, Wisconsin on February 3, 1936, to Herbert and Mary (née Marks) Schroeder. Due to a bad snowstorm, Mary (referred to as Mae) was unable to go to the hospital as planned and had to deliver Rita at home. Herbert and Mae were very concerned. Rita was born two months premature, and they had already lost several children during pregnancy or shortly after birth. Her parents rejoiced as Rita, although tiny (3 lbs), was healthy. Herbert’s and Mae’s prayers were answered as she continued to thrive, and a special closeness developed between them and their only child.
Rita started her schooling at Marcy Public School. She was baptized and received her First Communion at St. Dominic’s Parish in Brookfield. In 1944, when Rita was in third grade, the family moved into their Hartland home, where Rita would live for the next 62 years. This was also the year Rita would begin her 80-year journey with her spiritual family at St Charles Parish.
After attending grade school in Hartland and middle school in Nashotah, Rita’s parents honored her request to attend Catholic Memorial High School. She was a proud 1954 graduate of CMH. In the fall of 1954, Rita began her lifelong career at Waukesha Engines, where her father was a machinist. Father and daughter drove to work daily for ten years until his retirement in 1964. During her time at Waukesha Engines, Rita worked a few different positions: shipping, receiving, and in the office doing billing. Rita’s years at Waukesha Engines included many good friendships and experiences. One of her favorite memories was when her co-workers held a mock “wedding” ceremony to commemorate her 40th anniversary with the company. The celebration included highlights such as her boss “officiating” as Rita, holding a bridal bouquet and wearing a veil, made her vows to the company. It also included a reception complete with a
wedding cake and presents. After 47 years, Rita retired from Waukesha Engines in 2001.
Rita spent countless hours helping others. Worshiping the Lord was important to Rita, and her parents instilled in her a vibrant spirit of charity as the way to live out her faith. Rita’s long history of volunteering started in high school when she joined her mother in becoming a Mission Lady at St. Charles. Throughout the years, Rita’s volunteer experiences included serving at the American Legion, as a Lioness for the Okauchee Lions Club, and fundraising for programs for the blind. Rita served countless hours for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, especially after her retirement. She did home visits and worked regular weekly shifts at the Waukesha thrift store on Mondays, at the food pantry on Tuesdays, and at the Oconomowoc thrift store on Fridays. In addition to being a Mission Lady at St Charles, Rita helped out at other parish events such as the Lenten fish fry, Thursday Bingo, “Jesus and Me”, and Fallfest. For 45 years, two Sundays a month, Rita spent her mornings fostering fellowship by serving coffee and donuts to her fellow parishioners. Rita was very generous in her official roles and her private relationships and interactions.
Rita was not all work; she thoroughly loved spending time with her many friends. Throughout the years, pastimes with loved ones included playing lots of sheepshead, trail biking, Friday night Fish Fries, enjoying a good drink, playing bingo, sightseeing, and celebrating the holidays and other special occasions. Rita enjoyed traveling throughout her life. This interest was ignited by two memorable trips. In 1960, Rita went to Hawaii with friends from CMH, and in 1966, Rita enjoyed a five-week trip to nine European countries with her beloved Aunt Ronny. Rita lovingly attended to her parents when each of them got sick. She was adamant in saying that only after both had passed, did she resume her interest in traveling. Rita cherished her time with friends as she enjoyed exploring 49 of the 50 states; only Alaska eluded her.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Mae Schroeder, and her beloved Aunt, Veronica Marks (Aunt Ronny). She was also preceded in death by many close loved ones and will be dearly missed by many more.
Special thanks to the caring staff at AngelsGrace Hospice and Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital for their love, care, and support shown to Rita.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Charles Parish, 313 Circle Drive, Hartland, WI on Monday, April 8, 2024. Visitation is from 10:30 AM until noon, with Mass to be held at noon.

Virginia Savrnoch - September 06, 1938 - March 11, 2024

Departed: 03/11/2024 (Hartland)
Obituary Preview: Virginia Savrnoch was born Virginia Marie Schantzen in Milwaukee, WI, and moved to Delafield in 1968 with her husband and 3 children. Virginia created a home welcoming to many and could often be seen during the winter months clearing the ice from the channel of Lake Nagawicka, prepping for kids to skate on. She retired from the Delafield-Hartland wastewater treatment facility, where she excelled with her no-nonsense presence and pointed humor and forged lasting friendships.
Virginia’s life changed dramatically with the death of her son Gary, who passed of AIDS in 1990. It was at that point that she, along with her husband Bob, became passionate supporters of those who were suffering from AIDS or living with HIV. Virginia and Bob’s devotion to and compassion for those in the LGBTQ+ community suffering from what at the time was a fatal illness led to them being honorary Grand Marshalls in one of Milwaukee’s Gay Pride parades.
The shining light of Virginia’s later life were her grandchildren in California, known affectionately as her “TAGS” (Totally Awesome Grandkids).
Virginia was preceded in death by her 2 sons, Gary and Greg, and her husband Robert. She is survived by her beloved son John Savrnoch, his fiancé Catherine Remak, grandchildren Joshua and Samantha Savrnoch, sisters Sally Momberg, Marie Ford, Cathy Hejdak, brothers John and Al Schantzen, and numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia was from a large family and loved spending time with her sisters, brothers, nieces (who were among her most frequent companions later in life), and nephews. She leaves behind several other longtime friends and a legacy of always rooting for the underdog.
The family asks that those who feel inclined may honor her with a donation to Bridging(@ bridging.org), a charity that Virginia was introduced to by her sister Marie that Virginia truly believed in.
Celebration of Life services are being planned.

Departed: 02/29/2024 (Hartland)
Obituary Preview: Carol Ayer, a bright note in our universe, found rest in silence on February 29, 2024, in Hartland, Wisconsin. She was 93.
Born Carol Janice Wells in South Central Wisconsin, she prized and practiced harmony, learning, and community service throughout her life. An accomplished singer and graduate of Beloit College–where she first met Peter F. Ayer, whom she married in 1953–Carol worked as an elementary school teacher, choral director, accompanist, and librarian, yet still found time to volunteer at her local polling place during election season.
Carol often hosted dinners for visiting performers during Peter's University of Wisconsin career and was renowned for her magnificent cheese soufflés. A prolific and gifted quilter, she donated her work to local hospices and women's shelters in Florida and Wisconsin for as long as she was able. She spent her last few days quietly, attended by family, as she had always requested.
Carol's extended musical family includes members of the West Bend Moraine Chorus (WI), Ayer Ensemble singers (WI), and Spring Hill Chorus (FL), among many others. Surviving family are sons David (Rebecca), Chris, and Curtis (De Anna); and grandchildren Phillip (Renée), Caitlin, Dylan, and Sarah. While we will always miss her beautiful voice, the song we sang together continues. In keeping with Carol’s final direction, “No visitation or ceremony–have a party,” her family will announce a celebration of her life to be held in Wisconsin during the warm summer months she so loved. In lieu of cards and flowers, donations to the Phi Beta Kappa Society in her memory are encouraged. Checks to “Beloit Chapter Phi Beta Kappa” may be mailed to: Beloit College Attn: Pamela Prescott Advancement Office 700 College St Beloit, WI 53511

Carl H. Liedtke - January 26, 1929 - February 11, 2024

Departed: 02/11/2024 (Hartland)
Obituary Preview: Carl H. Liedtke passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024 at the age of 95. Carl was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his three children, Scott, Susan (Todd) Morris, Nancy Berry and grandson Alec Morris.
Carl will also be lovingly remembered by his brother Allen, brother-in-law Daniel Murphy, nieces, nephews, many friends and his first wife Marilyn.
He was preceded in death by his precious daughter Katherine, his wife Grace, and sisters Eleanor Ramthun and Carol Murphy.
Carl was born on January 26,, 1929 on the North Side of Milwaukee. The second oldest of four children, he attended North Division High School before enlisting in the US Marine Corps in 1946. Carl was a proud patriot and “Semper Fi” was his lifelong motto. Following a two-year deployment, he joined the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company as a Mailroom/Shipping Clerk. He would continue to climb the corporate ladder at Schlitz eventually running the company’s Waukesha County distributorship, although he swore he “never worked a day in his life”. In 1950, he was deployed a second time and served in the Korean War for two years. Upon returning to Schlitz, Carl met and married his first wife Marilyn. The couple raised their four children over the next 20 years while being transferred to various cities including Minneapolis, Des Moines, and Boston, eventually settling back in Wisconsin. After nearly 40 years with Schlitz, he retired in 1986.
In 1987, Carl moved to the Orlando, Florida area and married his second wife Grace. They spent over 25 happy years together, travelling the world and being “regulars” at Walt Disney World. After Grace’s passing in 2012, he remained in Florida and forged even closer bonds with his many wonderful neighbors and friends.
A faith-filled man, Carl loved life and lived it to the fullest. His glass wasn’t just half full, as he’d say, his “cup runneth over.” Charming and upbeat, he thrived on making people laugh. Carl had a razor-sharp wit and was always ready with a hilarious one-liner which he delivered with precision timing. He also never met a stranger and enjoyed engaging new friends of all ages and backgrounds. A warm smile always on his face, you left feeling better after a visit with Carl.
He started every morning with a strong cup of coffee and The Wall Street Journal, and enjoyed a glass of Johnny Walker Black in the evening. He often told stories with vivid recall about growing up on Milwaukee’s north side during The Great Depression. He was a fierce competitor at the card table and loved to challenge people with his endless supply of sports and movie trivia. He was a movie buff and John Wayne Westerns were among his favorites. An avid sports fan, he never missed watching a game, especially one involving his beloved Wisconsin teams, particularly the Brewers. At the end of every baseball season he would immediately start counting down the days to spring training.
Carl was thrilled to return to Lake Country in 2020, and he spent his final years surrounded by family and friends, new and old. In particular, he developed a very close relationship with Dan Mei. A special thanks to the staff of Hartland Place for helping to make his final years so enjoyable.
