Marjorie Kay Hoehle - September 29, 1944 - September 15, 2021

Departed: 09/15/2021 (Waukee)
Obituary Preview: Marjorie Kay Hoehle (Wildman) of Urbandale, Iowa passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021 of Lung Cancer at the age of 77.
Marjorie Wildman was born on September, 29th in Michigan City, Indiana to Katharyn Jane Schmidt and Harry Jay Wildman.  She was raised along side her sister, Jerry Ann Wildman (Stivers), and younger brother Steven Jay Wildman, both of Iowa City, Iowa.  As a schoolgirl she loved baseball and beat the boys in most any race.  She was beautiful, tough as nails, and always more concerned about those she loved than herself.  Marjorie graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelors degree in Recreational Therapy in 1966, and later married Robert Lee Hoehle II on July, 1st 1968 in Iowa City, Iowa.  Together they had two children.    Around 1977 she moved her two sons to Price, Utah where she began her career changing lives, giving every ounce of herself to those who needed her.  Her career started working in support of the chronically mentally ill, but later focused on those with a dual diagnosis of mental illness and substance abuse.  She loved the community, beautiful scenery, and wonderful climate of Eastern Utah.  In 1998 she moved back to Iowa to help raise her Grandkids, working as a highly recognized Advanced Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (ACADC).
While Marjorie’s tireless work-ethic and endless empathy for those she served was Award winning, her true calling was to be a Grandmother.  She watched her legacy of littles every Friday with prizes, games, pizza, and a mountain of love.  She never said no to an opportunity to be with her Grandchildren, literally, never.  To be sure, her connection and influence on them will positively impact their lives and the loved ones they’ll meet forever.
Marjorie is survived by her sons Robert Lee Hoehle III, 51, and his wife Erin, 44 of Urbandale, Iowa, and Jerry Jay Hoehle, 48, and his wife Elizabeth, 43, of Waukee, Iowa.  Most importantly her legacy will continue through her ten grandchildren, Whitney, Lindsey, Caleb, Cameron and their Mother Becky Hoehle, Louie, Jazlyn, and their Mother LaDawn Gersdorf, Mia, Reese, and their Mother Elizabeth Hoehle, and her newest passions Kenna, Paxton, and their Mother Erin Hoehle.  Marjorie leaves behind her Sister Jerry Ann, and husband Keith Stivers, and her Brother Steve Wildman and his wife Ginny.  She also leaves a positive influence for her Niece and Nephews, Steve, Joel, Bill, Tina and all their wonderful children.  Marjorie was preceded in death by her Father Harry Jay Wildman, and her Mother Katharyn Jane Wildman of Clinton, Iowa.
A Memorial Celebration will be held in Marjorie’s honor on her birthday September 29th, 2021 at Ernst Funeral and Cremation Services in Waukee, Iowa at 2:00 pm.  Donations can be made by paying it forward whenever possible and a few more times when you think you can’t.  We need more people like Marjorie.  Empathy is everything.

Departed: 08/13/2021 (Waukee)
Obituary Preview: Taylor J. Abbott, 28, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 13, 2021, at his home in Waukee, Iowa. He was born on June 26, 1993 to David Abbott and Lisa (Abbott) Jansen.
Taylor kept his family on their toes since day one.  He was bright, energetic and the nicest kid you would ever meet.  He carried these traits into his adult life.  Taylor knew no strangers.  His friendliness and energy were infectious and this made him excellent at his work; which was reflected in the fact that he was the top salesman at biBERK, a Berkshire Hathaway Co., since day one.  He was more than his job; he was a wonderful son, brother, father, grandson and friend.
Taylor is survived by his parents Lisa and Brian Jansen, father David Abbott (Larissa),  grandparents Shirley (McIntosh) Abbott, Ron Eklund and Priscilla (Schaefer) Eklund, his sister Kayla (Abbott) Hanono, his brothers Logan Abbott and Brandon Abbott, his half-sisters Amanda Abbott and Isabella Abbott, his daughter Natalie Abbott, and his fiancé Norma Cruz Rodriguez. He was preceded in death by grandfather C. Ray Abbott.  Also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins.
"Taylor and I enjoyed many rounds of golf and good conversations.  Taylor never failed to tell his family he loved them.”  –  his parents Lisa and Brian Jansen. “My memories of Taylor include always being funny, witty, and kind towards others.  Our time together were special to me and is very much cherished.  I love and miss you so much, my son.”  –  his father David Abbott and step-mother Larissa Abbott.  (Psalm 147:3)
“I’m thankful for the memories of him from being on the farm with Papaw and Mamaw.”  –  his paternal grandmother Shirley Abbott.
“Taylor, Tot, taught me throughout his life a lot about laughter.  He would be the first one to crack a joke when you were down, although they weren’t always funny (he would disagree with this) but he had pure hearted intentions.  We had so many inside jokes that were uniquely ours.  He understood the importance of family and although there is an irreplaceable hole left in our hearts, I know being together and supporting one another is what he would want.”  –  his sister Kayla (Abbott) Hanono. “Taylor was a brother, leader, friend, father and so much more.  My best friend who I looked up to more than anyone.  He was someone people could rely on.  I’m relying on seeing him again someday, love you bud.”  –  his brother Logan Abbott.  “Taylor was not just my brother, he was so much more.  He was my best friend, my role model and my mentor.  He helped me decipher right from wrong, how to forgive, how to love unconditionally and understand that nothing is more important than family.  Without him, there will be a hole in our family that will never be filled.  He will live on in our hearts, our memories and through his beautiful daughter.” – his brother Brandon Abbott. “We loved whenever he called. He was always funny and patient listening to our stories.”  –  his half-sisters Amanda and Isabella Abbott. “I love my daddy very much.  We had tickle fights, water balloon fights and even paint fights.  He’s my best friend and my angel.”  –  his beautiful daughter Natalie Abbott. “Taylor was my everything.  He made me feel like I can be my true self with him.  He accepted me for me and was an amazing best friend, fiancé and father.  We had goals and dreams and were able to achieve some.  He will forever be my person.”  –  his fiancé Norma Cruz Rodriguez. Helen LaRue Dessenko - May 14, 1933 - July 05, 2021

Departed: 07/05/2021 (Waukee)
Obituary Preview: Helen LaRue (Stake) Dessenko was born in Surrey, North Dakota on May 14, 1933 - notably, the same Sunday as Mother’s Day for that year - to Letha Zelda and David Calvin Stake.  On the morning of July 5, 2021, Helen passed away peacefully.  Coincidentally, the day marked the 16th anniversary of her husband, Melvin John Dessenko’s passing - July 5, 2005. Helen was eighth in a family of ten children.  As a working mom, and later a grandmother, a house full of party guests of all ages never seemed to phase her.  Helen knew how to navigate, feed and entertain a large group!
Helen spent her first years of marriage and started a family in Minot, ND with World War II veteran, Melvin.  In 1952, they would move to Waukee, Iowa, where the family would grow and remain for most of Helen’s years.
Her broad-ranging career began at the age of seventeen and spanned tenures in the restaurant business, retail services, and manufacturing.  Over the years, Helen made many life-long friends and recalled fondly working for employers such as: Alice’s Spaghetti Land, Parker Games, Wolf’s Department Store, and Maurices.
Helen’s interests included a good road trip and a well-running, preferably red car on the   open road.  The Dessenko's traveled to many corners of the United States via the highways and byways, to enjoy and learn more about the American experience.  Well into the 21st century, her enduring passion for the music of her youth was evident; Helen on a Saturday evening could often be found at home enjoying musical variety television, particularly The Lawrence Welk Show, which gained popularity in the 1950s.  The show could get Helen on her feet and dancing the night away with the show’s host and audience.  Another special talent of Helen was yodeling, especially to the tunes of Country & Western stars such as Dale Evans.  These charming, distinctive vocalizations were performed much to the delight and bewilderment of her grandchildren.
Finally, she shared her lifelong appreciation for horses - their athleticism and beauty - whether viewing the excitement of the races at Prairie Meadows or other venues with Mel and their friends, or reminiscing about bareback rides on her very own horse as a carefree child in North Dakota.
Often encouraged to open her own restaurant, Helen reserved her culinary delights mostly for her extended family and closest friends.  Helen shared with a local paper in 1957: “I never learned to bake at home.”  Since her older sisters took care of the baking at home, Helen learned to cook after she and Mel were married.  Of note, Mrs. Dessenko produced championship-quality desserts in her home kitchen and was renowned in the Waukee area for her pie-making, especially pumpkin and peach.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Melvin “Mel" Dessenko and their only son Jerald Wayne (2), born in 1951.  She outlived her parents and the majority of her siblings.
As for her legacy, Helen is survived by three daughters: LaRue (Bob) Maddox of Des Moines, Melva (Randall) O’Donnell of Kansas City, Mo., and Joyce (Steven) Venard of Adel; eight grandchildren, including three granddaughters, Amanda (Jeff) Cregeen, Darby and Taryn O’Donnell, and five grandsons, Nathan (Katy) and Kevin (Hayley) Venard, Cullen and Evan Powers, and Connor O’Donnell; nine great-grandchildren Jeremiah and Anthony Cregeen, Jason (JJ), Jayne and Levi Venard, Gabe and Sydney Schuster, and Grey and Molly Marie Venard; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family welcomes donations to a charitable or personal cause in Helen’s name to honor her memory. They suggest two local, caregiving organizations, in particular:  Perry Lutheran Homes (of Perry, IA) and/or Suncrest Home Health and Hospice (of Des Moines, IA).
Helen’s three daughters and their families wish to thank wholeheartedly the professional staff of Perry Lutheran Homes and Suncrest Hospice for their warm, loving and compassionate care.
Private family graveside services have been planned at the Waukee Cemetery.  Ernst Funeral & Cremation Services of Waukee have been entrusted with final arrangements.

Obituary Preview: Rhonda Wright passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021 at age 64. Private graveside services were held at her request.
I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer late in 2016. So my message is “don’t give up!” New treatments have helped extend lives and make quality of life better. John Stoddard Cancer Center and Dr. Hughes were both instrumental in my care.
I grew up in southern Iowa with my grandparents, Georgia and Ivan Kost and in Des Moines with my parents Phyllis and Dale Briley. I met and married my best friend, the love of my life and the finest man I ever knew, Scott Wright. We made our home in the country. We were blessed with three wonderful children Ashley, Katey and AJ., lots of animals and love. We were beyond happy.  Our family grew with Ashley’s husband, Cody Waltersdorf and AJ’s wife, Summer. More blessings would come with our grandchildren Jackson, Laney, Hollis and Henry. Our hearts were so full.
I should have gone first with advanced cancer but Scott passed away in 2019. As usual he led the way to make it easier for me. My brothers Jordan Briley, Fred Mackin and Jason Briley and sisters Karen Schneider and Jean Davis are left to carry on with their families. Life really does go by in a blink but it was oh so wonderful!

David Eugene Moles - May 28, 1957 - March 03, 2021

Departed: 03/03/2021 (Waukee)
Obituary Preview: David (Dave) Moles died at home on March 3, 2021, of the brain cancer glioblastoma multiforme, twenty months after diagnosis. Dave was born on May 28, 1957, in Des Moines, Iowa, and was adopted as an infant by Marvin Robert Moles, M.D., and Jane Susan Woodburn Moles. He attended schools in Newton IA, graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1975, and lived and worked in the area for much of his life. He earned his AA degree in Business from Des Moines Area Community College, and worked for the Maytag Company for 30 years, finishing as a Tool & Die Journeyman when he retired in 2008. Dave then worked for the YMCA in Waukee, Healthy Living in West Des Moines, and downtown Des Moines facilities in building facility and equipment management. He retired from the YMCA in 2019.
Dave married LuAnn Marie Minner on April 13, 1974, at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton, Iowa. They had three children and divorced in 1987. On June 25, 1988, Dave married the love of his life, Jacqueline Diane Brown, at the First Christian Church in Newton, Iowa, and they had one son.
He was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton, Iowa, served as an Elder, and served as a volunteer leader accompanying church teen volunteers on several of their Work Week trips. He enjoyed swimming from an early age, participating in swim teams through the YMCA, summertime AAU, high school, and Iowa Masters, winning several medals in the Iowa Games. Dave’s love for the pool led him to stints as a swimming instructor and eventually several seasons as head coach for the Newton YMCA swim team. He played baseball and football during his school years, and enjoyed golf. Dave’s lifelong passion for being on the water was on display during numerous lake trips to Minnesota and Missouri, where fishing, waterskiing, were essential to him, and family time was paramount; he also traveled with his mother, siblings and spouses on cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean several times, Ireland and Atlantic passage, and the Danube River.
Dave kept busy all of the time with home and garage renovation, most recently rebuilding a 1940 Ford pickup. Dave was a sports fan throughout his life, with his Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs always near and dear to his heart. Closer to home, Dave found great joy in watching – and sometimes coaching – his kids and grandkids in their various athletic activities. Dave developed a passion for music in his youth, when he played clarinet and became a skilled piano player. Later, he shared his love of music with Jackie and throughout their time together they were a constant fixture at all the big classic rock shows in Central Iowa.
Dave’s love for his family was on display every day of his life, and his love for Jackie shined especially bright for all to see; a testament to the once-in-a-lifetime partnership they shared. Dave’s joy in being a father and grandfather is reflected back in kind, evident in the nickname they had for their Dad and Grandpa Dave: The G.O.A.T…. the greatest of all time. Dave shared a uniquely close bond with his three siblings, both throughout their lives and during his final moments. A more optimistic, encouraging, caring man would be difficult to find. We were blessed to be a part of his family and life, and he is so missed.
Survivors: Wife, Jackie; children Tony (Katherine) Moles, Houston TX; Nicole (Kelley) Jacob, Cypress TX; Joseph (Diana) Moles, Houston, TX; Brad Moles, Austin, TX; grandchildren Taylor Moles, Daniel Peterson, Gavin Moles, Ashley Keown, Mason Keown, Elias Moles, Oliver Moles; brother Don (Dortha) Moles, Fillmore IN; sisters Diane Moles, Newton IA and Deb (Doug) Merfeld, Walford IA; nine nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. Dave was never without a dog or two or three in his life, and Barney and Bucky were with him at the end.
