Earl Christianson - October 02, 1929 - August 08, 2017

Departed: 08/08/2017 (Elbow Lake)
Obituary Preview: After a long and fulfilling life of 87 years, Earl Christianson, Battle Lake MN, died on Tuesday, August 8th.
Earl was born October 2, 1929 on a farm near Tintah, MN, to Antone and Betty (Keller) Christianson. He grew up in Wendell, MN and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1947. Upon graduation from the Minnesota School of Business he married Jeanne Jaunty and settled in Elbow Lake, MN where he started his career in his father’s farm equipment business. Earl was a pioneer in introducing the 4WD tractor to agriculture working closely with Douglass and Maurice Steiger to develop and market the Steiger tractor. He promoted and sold the first of them in the early sixties. As the original Steiger dealership, Christianson’s Inc. went on to sell and service 4WDs in the southern Red River Valley area. Earl remained excited about new concepts in agricultural equipment, be it sprayers, tillage, tracks, or other innovations. He retired in 1991 and spent summers at the family lake cabin on West Battle Lake, later relocating to the area year around.
Earl and Jeanne, his wife of 66 years, raised 10 children in their sometimes chaotic home across the street from the school in Elbow Lake. Earl was a man of the highest integrity and instilled a deep sense of honesty, loyalty, and perseverance along with humility in his children. He had an enduring sense of curiosity and was constantly looking to the future, be it the advent of 4WD tractors or the consolidation of rural school districts. Earl was very active in the community serving on the bank board, school board, and other local volunteer organizations. He was an enthusiastic source of encouragement and inspiration for young and old alike.
A constant in Earl’s life was his passion for training Labrador retrievers. He spent countless hours teaching “double” “triple” and “blind” retrieves to his field trial dogs (with reluctant but ample help of his boys). Some of his favorites (Shamus, Bozo, Toby, Doc, Nifty and Soupy, to name a few) kept him busy competing in various field trials. After retiring he often went south in the winter, dogs in tow, to train with the pros. Earl was a member of several retriever clubs and often served as a judge at field trials. He believed strongly in positive reinforcement as a training technique with his dogs as much as he did in life.
Earl is survived by his wife, Jeanne; three sisters, Mildred, Louise and Vera; 10 children, Tony (Paige), David (Carol), Susan (Rob) Thompson, Peter (Stephanie), Ted (Nancy), Bill (Lucina), Eric (Jennifer), Paul (Sheila), Tom (Lisa), and Nick (Melanie); 39 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Antone & Elizabeth “Betty” and his brother Orrin “Christy”.
Visitation and funeral services will take place at St. Olaf Catholic Church, Elbow Lake, MN. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 17th from 5:00 - 7:00 PM and Friday, August 18th from 1:00 - 2:00 PM, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 2:00 PM. There will be a celebration of Earl’s life in Veterans Park immediately after the service from 3:00 - 8:00 PM.
The family requests that any memorials are made to The Central Minnesota Retriever Club, P.O. Box 724, Sauk Rapids, MN 56379 - www.cmrcmn.org.
We will miss Earl - and together we celebrate a life well lived.

Peter was quite the jokester and would scoot around on his butt on the living room floor and try to untie the staffs or his own shoes. Peter liked to interact with the staff including leading them to the bedroom to turn on the radio to listen to his favorite country music, or insisting the windows remain open even if it was winter. Peter loved to walk the trails at Niemackl Park, Runestone Park and Tipsinah Mounds. He spent many hours playing with his precious beads and grabbing staff to help find them when they were lost. Mignon Randall - June 27, 1925 - June 26, 2017

Departed: 06/26/2017 (Elbow Lake)
Obituary Preview: Mignon (Aamot) Randall passed away June 26, 2017, at PioneerCare Suites in Fergus Falls at the age of 91, one day shy of her 92nd birthday.
She was born on June 27, 1925, to Omer and Minnie (Brown) Aamot at their home in Wendell, Minnesota. She was what you would call and “Original,” born here and never left.
She attended grade school in Wendell and in the fall of 1939 enrolled in the West Central School of Agriculture (WCSA) in Morris. She attended there for five years, taking a business course the last year. While there she was involved in music and home economics. She loved to sew and bake in 4-H, and that continued on at WCSA. The friendships made at WCSA have lasted a lifetime. After graduation in 1944, she went to work for her Dad at Aamot Implement.
In the fall of 1946, Roy Randall came to Wendell and, with the help of Nels Olsen, he met the girl who worked across the street at Aamot Implement. They were married on October 24, 1948, and after seven years of marriage, they adopted Robert in 1955; in 1957, they adopted Lori. What a joy and blessing they were to Mignon and Roy.
Roy started working at Aamot Implement in 1947 and went into partnership with Mignon’s two brothers, Odell and Hanley Aamot, in the 1960’s. They all worked together until they decided to retire in 1995. Those who worked with her and their customers became like family to Mignon. Robert and his wife Connie blessed Mignon with four grandchildren of whom she was so very proud - they meant the world to her. One of the things they will remember Grandma for are her dill pickles and apple pies. She had a special place in her heart for kids and pets, and most of you will remember that Mignon was a “hugger.”
Trinity Lutheran Church was very special to Mignon. A very active member, she was the church organist for 23 years, active in Sunday school, the Ladies Aid, quilting, serving on the Altar Committee and the Evangelism Committee. A life member at Trinity, Mignon was baptized, confirmed and married there. One can tell how special Wendell was to Mignon, having been born there and lived there all of her life. Being chosen as the Grand Marshalls for the Wendell 125th celebration in July 2012 was such an honor and humbling experience for her and Roy.
Mignon was a member of the Homemaker’s Club and has been an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 426 of Wendell since 1946 and served as the Unit Treasurer for many of those years. She joined the Wendell Lions Club in 1999.
Mignon was preceded in death by her daughter Lori, her parents Omer and Minnie, her brothers Odell and Hanley, several aunts, uncles and cousins, and many friends.
Grandma, Mother, and Friend to all, Mignon is survived by her husband and best friend Roy; son Robert (Connie) Randall and four grandchildren, Lucas (Heidi), Stefanie, Tanner (Hayley) and Nicole Randall, all from Wichita, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews who were just like her own.

Duane C Wellnitz - March 30, 1936 - March 03, 2017

Departed: 03/03/2017 (Elbow Lake)
Obituary Preview: Duane Wellnitz, from Elbow Lake, decided to go hunting, fishing and soaring with the bald eagles forever on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the age of 80 years.
Duane Clyde "Red/Butch/Sammy" Wellnitz was born March 30, 1936 to Elvin "Al" and Lorraine (Olson) Wellnitz in Minneapolis, MN. While growing up in Minneapolis Red attended school in North Minneapolis High. He was also a paper boy for the Star Tribune. Many of his favorite memories from growing up came from being able to get baseball tickets to see the Minneapolis Millers. He was always asked by his uncles for these tickets, in exchange he got to attend the games with them and get all the hotdogs he could eat and all the pop he could drink. Red used to tell stories of how he got to watch guys like Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson and many more in that ballpark. Was amazing how many big timers he watched.
After Red graduated high school he attended barber school also in Minneapolis. Red later graduated as a Master Barber, which is what he loved to do for just about 60 years till his passing. After Red graduated barber school he moved to Tintah, MN to be closer to his father. Red and Al farmed together for many years. It was from his interest in farming and right after he had purchased the Petermann home quarter from Henry Petermann that he found the love of his life Mary Petermann. All of Mary's younger siblings loved Red from the start because every time he came over he always had candy in his pockets for them!
On June 2nd, 1962 Duane and Mary were united in marriage at St. Gall's Catholic Church in Tintah. They began their married live in Tintah where Red barbered and still farmed. Red also barbered in Elbow Lake at the time as well. On June 28th, 1963, they had their first child Dorene followed by Duane on December 3rd, 1964, Debra on April 5th, 1968. Also in 1968 Red and Mary moved to Elbow Lake. After they moved Red gave up farming but continued to barber.
Not long after they moved to Elbow Lake, Red and Mary opened up and operated Red's Greenhouse. On August 6th, 1973, the couple welcomed Derek to the world. In the late 1970's early 80's Red opened up a pool hall, so all of the kids of Elbow Lake and surrounding communities had a place to get together for fun, play pool or video games. Also in the early days of moving to Elbow Lake Red also became a grave digger. Later in life he would tell stories of long nights, people trying to sneak up on him and scare him (very few actually pulled it off tho) and yes even a couple mishaps. As crazy as it may sound he always said that he enjoyed it tho.
On December 9, 1984 Red and Mary enjoyed the birth of their first grandchild Josh or as Red would call him Joshua John every time he saw him. In 1985 they also added Sarah & Becky thru marriage. In 1991 also added Jenifer Mary to the happy family. Red was always very proud of all of his grandchildren, loved being able to teach them how to hunt, fish and gopher trap. He also enjoyed giving driving lessons to them out in the field while they were out trapping.
Red never missed one sporting event or school event the grandchildren were in. Whether it was football that took him to Roseau Friday night and then volleyball to southern Minnesota Saturday morning, he was always there.
In Red's spare time he served in the Army Reserves for 35 years as a Mess Sergeant. In 1992 Red spent a long 9 months in the Panama with the Reserves. He enjoyed every minute he was with the guys of the 205th Infantry Brigade out of Fergus Falls. Later in life Red would teach his grandchildren how to cook, but it was hard because he couldn't just cook for two or four it was always 100's to 1000's. So there was always leftovers.
Red loved the community of Elbow Lake and could never imagine living anywhere else. Red also supported it anyway he could. He was on the city council was mayor, a volunteer firefighter Jaycees, part of the Knights of Columbus and was also an EMT specialist. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 321, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever, and yes he was also a lifetime member of the NRA. Red would always say "You can never have too many guns." And he definitely passed that down thru his boys and his grandson.
Red enjoyed many things in life hunting, fishing, gopher trapping, gardening (both his rose bushes and his big garden in the back), golfing, playing cards, making wine (which has won a few awards), reading and most important to him, being there for his family. He loved every minute he had with them and his grandchildren. As they would say he was their best hunting buddy, fishing buddy, and all around best friend. He even considered cutting hair a hobby, because he got paid to tell jokes, act silly and find out where the fish are biting the most?! He also enjoyed his Dairy Queen ice cream, root beer floats and his White Castle "hangabergs". Red was one of the most loving, caring and giving guys you would ever meet. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or sell you a raffle ticket to help out a charity of any kind. He also saved pop tops for the Ronald McDonald house. If you ever had a question about anything from life to marriage, Red always had the answer for you. No matter what you needed Red was your guy. He always had some sort of wisdom for everything. He would also always tell everyone that "life is a gift and every minute that you get on this beautiful Earth should not be wasted, because you just never know when your number will be called. Enjoy life your way and see it all, there is a lot to offer you." Sadly his number was called Friday March 3rd, 2017. He always said that his luck number was "3", just because he was born 3-30-36. Not only will a lot of us miss Red but I know Red will miss us as well. Travel well. "See ya later alligator....."
Duane is survived by Mary, his wife of 55 years; children, Dorene (Scott) Green of Elbow Lake, Duane (Judy) Wellnitz of Portland, OR, Debra (Bob) Stach of Elbow Lake, and Derek (Melany) Wellnitz of Pipestone, MN; sister, Georgean Griswold of Redondo Beach, CA; four grandchildren, Joshua John Stach of Elbow Lake, Jenifer Mary Stach of Elbow Lake, Sarah (Green) Toews of Minneapolis, and Becky Green of Moorhead and everyone who called him friend.

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It is usually published in a newspaper, online, or through other media outlets to inform friends, family, and the community of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and remember the deceased, while also providing important information to those who may want to pay their respects or attend funeral services. They can also help to notify people who may not have been aware of the person's passing.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The task of writing an obituary usually falls to the family members or close friends of the deceased. In some cases, a funeral home or mortuary may assist with writing the obituary or provide guidance on how to write one.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral services, memorials, or charitable donations in lieu of flowers.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?
