Margaret "Peg" Rasch - June 16, 1940 - April 17, 2024

Departed: 04/17/2024 (Argyle)
Obituary Preview: Margaret M. (Peg) Rasch died on April 17, 2024 at age 83 at the SSM Health Hospice Home, Monroe WI. The cause of death was autoimmune encephalitis and associated complications, following multiple months in medical hell.
Peg was born on June 16, 1940 in Milwaukee, the eldest of 8 children of Ambrose and Dorothy (Goetz) Kreuser. She attended St. Sebastian School and Divine Savior High School in Milwaukee, followed by graduation from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville in 1965. In later years, she also did graduate work at the Universities of Wisconsin-Madison and Platteville and at Loras College.
Peg married Paul Rasch in 1965, followed by their joint enrollment in Peace Corps training. Her daughter Rebecca was born of that union, which ended in divorce when Rebecca was 2. Thereafter Peg single-handedly raised Rebecca until she graduated from college in 1989. Once that project was completed, she married David Stute on December 29, 1989. [Another project, she might say.
Peg was a public sector employee until she retired. She started as a social worker at Elgin (Illinois) Mental Hospital, followed by employment by the Southwestern Wisconsin Community Action Program, where she quickly rose to become Executive Director for 3+years. Needing less-demanding employment as a single parent, she moved to Milwaukee and became the Wisconsin Department of Local Affairs and Development (DLAD)’s liaison between the state of Wisconsin and Milwaukee’s Model Cities program (a “War on Poverty” initiative).
Moving to Madison, Peg served as a policy analyst at DLAD, doing research, preparing fiscal notes on proposed legislation and later became a consultant to local governments on reforming their personnel practices. With the dissolution of DLAD, she continued doing local government personnel consulting at the Department of Administration until she transferred to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in 1983. There, in turn, she coordinated the Wisconsin Conservation Corps program; administered federal sewer grants to local governments; and managed DNR’s summer youth conservation camps program. She retired from state service in 1994 to attend to family matters. Once those were taken care of, she worked part-time for several years in a variety of interesting jobs. Throughout her years of service, she prided herself in her research and analytical abilities.
Peg moved to Washington D.C. in October 1999 for a 15-month period, for the purpose of helping her daughter Rebecca live with, and ultimately die from, Stage IV lung cancer. It was a wrenching experience which she negotiated with great grace.
Peg and David relocated from Madison to rural Argyle in late 2003. Peg became active in local organizations, including St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Lafayette County Association for Home and Community Education, Lafayette County Democratic Party, Wiota Firemen’s Auxiliary, Friends of the Argyle Public Library (most recently) and the Argyle book group. She was also part of an informal group that taught ESL to local dairy farm employees. Last, she maintained ties to friends and acquaintances in Madison, especially membership in her 50+ year-old book group, of which she was a charter member.
Peg loved travel. Places she visited include multiple countries in western Europe; Morocco; El Salvador, Peru, Cuba and Mexico, as well as numerous places stateside. Her last venture was in September 2023, when she and her eldest granddaughter walked the final leg of the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James), an ancient pilgrimage route in NW Spain.
Peg is survived by her husband, David Stute, 3 stepchildren - James, Suzanne (Jeff Miller) and Anton (Tami) Stute, 3 grandchildren - Rachel and McKenzie Stute and Holden Miller; 4 siblings – Susan Walker, Michael (Marjorie) Kreuser, Kathleen (Werner) Kreuser-Klement and Patrick (Jeanne) Kreuser; and 7 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Rasch Hamaide; her parents; 3 brothers – Peter, William and Hans Kreuser; 2 in-laws – Gina Kreuser and Donald Walker; and her first husband, Paul Rasch.

Richardson, age 27 and his 3-year-old daughter Teigen Richardson tragically lost their lives on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, due to injuries they sustained in an automobile accident. Jason was born July 24, 1996, in Platteville, WI the son of Scott F. Richardson and Angela K. Miesen. Jason grew up in the Belmont, WI area and graduated from Belmont High School. After high school, he proudly started working as a dairyman, working for the Buss, Kamps, Opitz, Nodolf, and most recently the Kundert Family Farms. His love for farming came directly from his maternal grandparents who instilled what it meant to work hard and be proud of your work.
Jason married the love of his life, Leane E. Dammen on July 20, 2019, at the Monroe Art Center in Monroe, WI. Together they built a family, 3 girls (Natalie, Sienna, and Teigen) and 1 boy (Landon) with another one on the way and showed them all what unconditional love was.

Although feisty, she always had a softer side and knew how to steal your heart by snuggling up and giving her love to her favorite people.

He was proud of his hard work on the farm and always enjoyed showing his cows at different shows throughout the area. Some of his favorite days were spent rangering with Leane, shopping to pick up whatever he needed, singing, or simply sitting by a campfire roasting marshmallows and making smores. Jason also had a love for baking and was very particular on making sure he had understood the instructions and had the exact ingredients – claiming it was important to teach his girls how to cook and follow directions. He was known by his family for his famous tater tot casserole and apple pie drinks. Jason was one of the most genuine, caring, and generous individuals you would have had the pleasure of knowing. She was united in marriage to John W. Bruehlman on March 24, 1956 at Argyle Lutheran Church, WI. John and JoAnne enjoyed traveling to visit family across the United States.
JoAnne attended school at Puddledock Country School in her youth, and due to contracting Rheumatic fever, was unable to complete her high school education. JoAnne was a dedicated member of Cornerstone Lutheran Church in Argyle, and attended bible study each week for many years with her husband John. Being a mother of five children, and a farmer’s wife, JoAnne contributed by working as a baker at Rossing’s Grocery Store in Argyle, driving bus for Argyle school district for 20+ years; and helping out at Geri’s County Crafts. She was known for her caramel corn, homemade buns and her “famous” chocolate chip cookies with black walnuts.
JoAnne loved her crafts. She created many items out of wood and sold them at craft sales with her daughter Laurel, throughout Wisconsin. She was also a master quilter. JoAnne spent many hours piecing, batting, binding, sashing and sewing squares her entire life. Her name appears on many beautiful creations. She enjoyed many “Quit Hops” and Quilt stores over the years with family and friends. She loved sharing them with loved ones, along with selling them at her craft shows.
When JoAnne wasn’t farming, raising kids, driving bus, or crafting and quilting, she found time for fun and adventure. As a child, she enjoyed being outside, taking walks in the woods enjoying the birds, flowers and wildlife. Everyone who knew JoAnne, knew that she was always caring for, or nursing animals back to health, to send them back to the wild. She has nursed and raised several in her lifetime, which include Thumper the skunk; Josephine the mallard; Groucho, Alfalfa, Buckwheat and Darla the raccoons, and Lucky, Willy, Frisky and Sparky the squirrels. She wrote once that her favorite childhood memory was that she cared for 18 squirrels, 18 raccoons, 1 opossum, several rabbits and many birds. JoAnne also spent her younger years at the Roller Den in Monroe, WI skating with her daughters and friends, and dressing up for Halloween in her own designed costumes.
One would say her most favorite past time was creating beautiful scenes with her jigsaw puzzles. She has challenged herself over the years on thousands of puzzles, some only 9 pieces and others over 10,000 pieces. Just a few days before she left us, she was working on two of the last puzzles she will put together here on earth.
JoAnne loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spent time watching them in sports, cutting newspaper articles out about their accomplishments, enjoying theatre productions, teaching them to sew and quilt, take care of animals, and most recently spending 3 months in Hot Springs, Arkansas visiting.
JoAnne is survived by her children: Loren (Kristi) Bruehlman and Jim (Lisa Bina) Bruehlman both of Argyle, and Chris (David) Goff of Fairbanks, Alaska. 8 grandchildren: Cory, Kayla and Ashley Bruehlman; Nadean (Gene) Ho of Hot Springs, AR; Kevin Bruehlman of Florida, Kyle (Kasey) Bruehlman of Monroe, WI, and Brock and Erin Bruehlman of Madison. 6 great-grandchildren: Barry, Ella, Luna Kruz, Everett, Iris and step-great granddaughter Rosalie. Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who need to know about the passing. They help to notify friends, family, and acquaintances of the funeral or memorial service details, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or cremation service may assist with writing the obituary or provide a template for the family to fill out.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A standard obituary usually includes the deceased person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, interests, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service, including the date, time, location, and any charitable donations in lieu of flowers.
