Obituary Preview: Daniel R. Bauer, 69, Bismarck, passed away August 28, 2021, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 11, 2021, at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church with Rev. Nick Schneider officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery. A Vigil/Rosary service begins at 7:00 PM, Friday, September 10, 2021, at DaWise-Perry / Mandan Crematory. Visitation is scheduled for 5:00-7:00 PM at DaWise-Perry / Mandan Crematory, 4211 Old Red Trail, Mandan. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
Daniel was born January 4, 1952, at Bismarck, to Peter and Emma (Renner) Bauer. He was raised and educated in St. Vincent area. Dan was raised and worked with his family on the family farm and learned all the trades. In 1968 he met the love of his life, Kathy Doll and in 1971 they married. He farmed with Kathy and his father and brother until 1977 when they homesteaded their own farm with their two children, Francis, and Jennifer. They raised beef cattle and small grain for 24 years. Over his life, Dan dug his hands into many things. He worked for Kautzman Trucking for short time. He then moved to Schultz Creamery and ended with his dream job as field man for Dakota Country Cheese.
Dan was quite the handyman and inventor from a preteen and teen boy building go-karts, to Dan’s Ditchen & Diggin in his 20s and 30s. Followed by designing, patenting and building the Skid Steer Rock Fork in his 40s and 50s. Through his life he loved to tell stories of his life experiences and all enjoyed listening. In his retirement he loved spending more time with his wife, camping and fishing whenever and wherever they could. They were able to take many vacations with numerous family members all over the country including Hawaii, and Cancun and Paris.
Dan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathy; his son, Francis (Rhonda) Bauer; his daughter, Jennifer Smith (special friend Mike); his grandchildren, Cameron, Dylan, Austin, Braelyn, Cassie, and Alli.
Dan was proceeded in death by his parents, Peter and Emma Bauer; brother, Francis; parents-in-law, Jake and Clem Doll; son-in-law, Glenn Smith Jr.; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Vogel and Karen Doll; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Cody was born April 19, 1988, to Lloyd and Rose (Heck) Wickham. He was the youngest of three boys and seemed to have the “gift of gab” before he could walk. He enjoyed entertaining and making videos of himself doing off the wall clips for others. Cody was a very caring person and would give the shirt off his back for someone in need. He loved the family dog, Rusty, and the many cats that resided with him. His brothers were his best friends and he loved spending time with them. Cody attended Mandan High School. Cody worked in the restaurant industry and the oilfield for some time.
Cody leaves behind his mother, Rose, Mandan; two brothers, Chris (Lori), Norfolk, NY and Corey, Bismarck. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as several very close friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd; grandparents, Robert & Irene (Gartner) Heck and Charles and Ona Wickham, and several aunts, uncles and friends.

Emmi was born May 15, 1998, at Bismarck to Alex Spotted Elk and Steve Gayton. She was raised in Cannon Ball and educated at Standing Rock Community School and would have graduated with the class of 2016.
Emmi loved being around her friends having a good laugh and listening to music. She also loved traveling and going to as much concerts as she possibly could. As much as she loved traveling, she also loved being in the comfort in her home. She always took care of her close friends and welcomed them into her home with open arms. She was such a caring person and always thought of the people she loved before herself. She would spoil her nieces and nephews with gifts just to see them happy. Em loved dressing up and doing her makeup when she would go out with friends on weekends. She was always the life of the party making sure everyone was having a good time. Em had the most beautiful smile and a contagious laugh. Emmi was very protective of the people she loved and was loved and cherished by so many. She had the purest soul like no other and will be dearly missed. Gone to soon but never forgotten.
She is survived by her girlfriend of 10 years, Rashawn Vivier. Her best friends Aspen, Kalace, Raquel, Lashae, Sadie, and Eden. Her little sister Tashi Ironroad. Her cousin Kennedy. Her pets Grayson, Whiskey, and Mo. Her grandma Glenda Vivier. Her uncles and aunts. And her parents Alex and Steve.

Obituary Preview: Donald Delvin Larson (94) of Bismarck, ND, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent’s on August 13, 2021.
Don Larson, son of John and Anna (Nelson) Larson, was born on February 19, 1927, in Oakes, ND, and attended Oakes Public School. Don worked in Oakes at the North American Creamery. Deciding to try something different, Don moved to Pontiac, Michigan, and found work in the automobile industry. Don met Betty Jo Green in Pontiac, and they married at her parent’s home on February 6, 1948. They made their home in Wall Lake, MI, until 1958 when they packed up their three children, Daniel, David and Patricia, and moved to Oakes, ND.
Don ran the Skelly station in Oakes, and they owned/operated Don & Betty’s Café for several years. Don and Betty moved to Gwinner in 1973 where Don was a police officer, and then the Maintenance Superintendent for the City of Gwinner for 17 years. They owned/managed Larson Apartments, Countryside Court, and Let’s Store It.
Don was an active member of many churches and organizations over the years, including GCDC, Gwinner Volunteer Fire Department, and Gwinner First Responders. He attended the Oakes Nazarene Church before moving to Bismarck. Don was Gwinner’s 1990 Citizen of The Year. Don was known for his kind heart, generosity, jokes, stories and sense of humor. He loved to visit and play cards, along with some coffee and goodies of course.
Following Betty’s death in 2009, Don moved to Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Bismarck, ND, in 2013, where he enjoyed activities and meeting new people. He moved to St. Vincent’s Nursing Home in Bismarck in 2021.
Don is survived by his sons Daniel (Linda) Larson of Bismarck, ND, and David (Sue) Larson of Oakes, ND; daughter Patti Anderson of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren Tanya (Rory) Ockert, Trisha Trapp, Tavis (Darlene) Larson, Chris (Ashley) Larson, Keri (Chad) Pelesky, Mellissa (Howie) Euneau, Brady (Samantha) Anderson, Paul Anderson, Mike (Lisa) Anderson; 29 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sister-in law Vivian Larson and special friend Hazel Pilot.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Betty; his parents; brothers Robert, Charles, Alvin, Kenny and John; sisters Alice Hurt, Margaret Rodine, June Stroh and Shirley Daley; granddaughter Mandy Lass; son-in-law Thomas Anderson and granddaughter-in-law Ashley Anderson.

Sallee was born September 10, 1953, at Mandan, ND, to James and Alice (Blue Earth) Yellow Eyes. She was raised and educated in Cannon Ball, attending school at the Old, Oak Grove School, and attended Solen High School, where she graduated in May 1973. Sallee worked at various places, one tome at United Tribes, Bismarck, CHR Program at Fort Yates, the with the SRST Ambulance Service at Fort Yates as an Ambulance Driver. Sallee loved living in Cannon Ball, she always wanted to come home, but, due to health issues, she had to stay near the Sanford Hospital.
She had four children, James (Lorilei), their children, Granger, Indiana; Kallen (Victoria) Alycia, Adriannne (Josh); adopted children, Sherman Standing Bear Jr., and Lyman Black Cloud. 15 grandchildren; four sisters, Sylvia, Mae, Wanda and Bonnie; five brothers, Wallace, Guy, Adrian, Sylvan, and Alfred; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

Charles F. Skager - January 07, 1940 - August 08, 2021

Obituary Preview: Charles F. Skager was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world on August 8, 2021, at age 81.
He was born in Mandan, ND, to Frank and Bessie Skager on January 18, 1940. After attending school in Mandan, Charles joined the U. S. Air Force and was stationed in Minot, ND, where he met his wife, Ruth (Larson) Skager. Together, they had three sons: Trey, Kiel and Seth.
In his own mind and heart, Chuck Skager was the Marlboro Man, Marshal Matt Dillon and John Wayne all rolled into one. In his prime, it was common to find him wearing western clothing, a pistol at his side, and a cigarette forever in his presence. During his lifetime, Charles worked in body shops, as a farmhand, and in law enforcement. He retired after serving as the Chief of Police in Surrey, ND, and Deputy Sheriff for Ward County, ND, and as a security agent for the US Marshals Service. He had the work ethic of a dozen men and only rested when he knew those around him were safe and fed. Chuck always had a soft spot in his heart for children of all ages and those who knew him will forever have the vision of him with a hot cup of coffee in one hand and a smoke in the other.
Charles is survived by his three sons: Trey (Sandy) Skager, Deering; Kiel (Cameo) Skager, Mandan; Seth Skager, Minot; grandchildren Christopher Skager, Jessica (Tanner) Dame; Alexis Anderson, Zachary Anderson (Dakota Urban), Shae Skager; North Skager; Jessica Maistrovich (Andy McCarty); Joe Maistrovich; Cheyenne Skager; Destry Skager; August Skager; and great-grandchildren Hayden Johnson, Jaxon Prellwitz, Brantley Dame, Hailee Dame, Raelynn Dame, Emmett Dame, Trinity McCarty, Michael McCarty, Lilly McCarty; Sister Lola Holznagel; Sister Donna Dick; Brother Alvin (Linda) Skager; Sister-in-Law, Mavis (Gordon) Rasmussen, Minot; Brother-in-Law, Duane (Shirley) Larson, Bottineau; and numerous extended family members. He had the funniest personality and joked around with everyone. His dream was to be a Conductor for the Railroad.

Visitation is scheduled for 3-5:00 PM, Sunday, August 8, 2021, with a Rosary/Vigil Service beginning at 5:00 PM, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, 4211 Old Red Trail, Mandan. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church. Following services, burial will be held at 1:00 PM, in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Bill was born November 25, 1944, in Bismarck to William and Agnes (Murphy) Lengenfelder. He grew up on 9th St in Bismarck, attended St Mary’s Grade school, St Mary’s and Bismarck High and Moorhead State Univ. He sold the Grit as a young boy and never quit selling. Bill spent nine years in the US Navy and Navy Reserves. He was always very proud of the time he spent in the military. Bill was a machinist starting at the age of thirteen working with his dad. After college he worked as a National Sales Manager before being asked by his dad to come back to Modern Machine Works. He was an expert in portable machining and welding procedures. He traveled all over the US and Canada developing sales and doing portable machining. He ran an advertisement on the radio for Modern Machine Works that said, “we can fix anything but the crack of dawn and a broken heart.” Bill successfully started and headed Modern Industrial, a mining supply and service company in Bismarck and Billings and was top producer for a steel casting company for fifteen years. He was president of ND Wholesalers and Manufacturers, on the board of directors for ND Lignite and Energy Council, a member of the Bismarck AmVets, Elks and Knights of Columbus. Bill married Lorri Sickler on April 20, 1974.
Bill leaves behind his wife, Lorri; six children, Luke (Stormy), Nicky (Dustin) Holzworth, Kathy (Lonnie) Zahn, Matthew (Elizabeth), Joshua (Brekka), and Christina (Dale) Berger; fourteen grandchildren; Atlanta (Deven), Chase, Christian, Sydney, Gabriel, Mea, Samantha, Dominic, Max, Lucy, Toby, Hazel, Adeline, Zanna; great-granddaughter, Ashton; his siblings, John (Diane), Jim (Emily), Sherrie Kashinejad, Sylvia (Duaine) Ternes, Pat (Gail), Mary (John) Kluzak; sister-in-law, Carolyn Hoisington; and many nieces and nephews.

At the time of her death Noreen was surrounded by her husband of nearly 53 years. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at DaWise-Perry / Mandan Crematory, 4211 Old Red Trail, Mandan, with Rev. Bruce Adams officiating. Burial will be in the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service.
Noreen was born on May 16, 1948, to Lloyd and Hazel (Erdmann) Kortgaard. She was raised in Bottineau, ND and graduated from Bottineau High School. After graduating Noreen attended business college in Minneapolis, MN and worked at 1st National Bank until she moved back to Bottineau. On September 28, 1968, Noreen married the love of her life, Rodney Bahn. Noreen continued working at various banks and an eye clinic before going back to school at NDSU-Bottineau where she obtained her business administration degree. Soon after she got her real estate license and served the Bottineau and Lake Metigoshe communities as a Century 21 real estate agent for 22 years. She received numerous real estate awards including Realtor of the Year. Noreen retired in 2013 and soon after was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. In 2014 Noreen and Rod moved to Bismarck where she built her dream home. Noreen and Rod had two sons, Jeff, and Jerry, whom she adored. She loved watching them grow up and enjoyed watching them play sports, especially hockey and car racing. She treated her daughter-in-law’s, DeAnn and Ginny, as her own daughters and loved any chance to go shopping with them.
Noreen was a member of United Methodist Church in Bottineau, where she served as president for the United Methodist Women’s group for a period of time. Throughout the years she participated in the Red Hats, Jaycettes, Homemakers and was active with the Bottineau youth hockey and baseball programs. Noreen enjoyed shopping, traveling, decorating, dinning out, listening to music (especially Elvis Presley), visiting and gardening. She loved Christmas and the color yellow. She was blessed with seven grandchildren who she loved to watch play sports and buy gifts for.
She is survived by her husband; her sons and their children, Jeff (DeAnn), Avery, Easton and Kamryn, Farmington, MN and Jerry (Ginny), Morgan, Madison, Mason and Myles, Bismarck; her brother, Lonnie (Kris) Kortgaard, her mother-in-law, Margaret “Peggy” Bahn; her sisters-in-law, Kay Buirge, Toni Daede, and Joanne Dieterle; and several nieces and nephews.
Noreen was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Cecil “Joe” Bahn, brothers-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Buirge and Don Gumke, and grandson Harrison Bahn.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 PM, Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at First Baptist Church, Mandan with Rev. John Miller officiating. Burial will be in the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service.
William was born September 7, 1932, at New Leipzig, ND, to Rudolph and Christina (Verworn) Schroeder. He attended country school for eight years and left home at the age of 19. Benton Harbor, MI, was his home for two and a half years. In 1954 he joined the army, being discharged in 1956. Bill moved to Montana, working in the underground mines for eight years and for the railroad from 1965-1982. In 1976 Bill gave his life to the Lord. Singing in the choir, reading God’s word, working with missions, and helping with church building programs were a joy to Bill. He loved mechanics and worked on many cars. Butchering at the farm was his delight. In 1979 Bill married Patricia Heinle and they had 42 years together.
Bill is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Greg (Iva), Debra (Scott), Shawn (Liz) and David, (Taryn); nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many daycare kids.

Ervin was born December 29, 1951, at Riverdale, ND, to Ervin Plenty Chief and Myrtle Fool Bear. He was raised and educated in Cannonball, graduated from Solen High School in 1972. He served in the US Marines. He married Delphine Fast Horse on November 6, 1975. Over the years he worked as a teacher’s aide and janitor for the Cannonball Head start and hall monitor, for Solen high school; worked for the ambulance service, rock crusher, and a member of the Road Makers Inc. Before his retirement, he worked alongside his son Eric, as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He coached the girls’ softball team, “Standing Rock Spoilers” and they won Class D championship in 1986. He then joined the “Big Lake Bullets” softball team.
He is survived by his children, Riley, Rolanda, and Robin; grandchildren, Erica, Trent, Eden, Emerald, Shalinda, Erwin Jr., Jacob, Jackie, Matthew, Katarina, Riley Jr., Kaesly, Casey, Shaylee, Avy, Brent, Kirk, Keenan, Keegan, Kenyan, Keean, Keetan, Elias, Eric Jr.; great-grandchildren, Kingston, Easton, Eric, Nicholas, Donald, Payton, Taylor, Paige, and Baby AJ; daughter-in-law, Lucinda Buckley; sister, Alva Gabe; brother, John Cottonwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann Glaser - October 09, 1952 - July 23, 2021

Obituary Preview: Mary Ann Glaser (Lesmeister) passed away peacefully at her home in Rogersville, AL on July 23rd. Mary was born on October 9th, 1952 in Halliday, ND. Her family later moved to Bismarck and she graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1970. She married the love of her life, Marvin Michael Glaser, on October 29th, 1971. Shortly thereafter, they welcomed their first daughter, Jennifer Marie, on October 22nd, 1972. Marvin was then deployed to Zweibrucken Air Force Base in Germany. They returned to Bismarck to welcome their children, Adrienne Frances on August 6th, 1976 and Abraham Michael on April 7th, 1979.
After relocating to Omaha, NE in 1985, Mary began a successful career as a corporate trainer at Mutual of Omaha and Right Management Consultants. She enjoyed every moment and took great pride in her career. After several moves to Florida, Texas, Kansas City and back to Omaha, Mary and Marvin settled in Rogersville, AL in June of 2019.
Mary fought a courageous battle with Dementia for years. While her mind was fleeting, her love for Marvin, her children family and friends never waned. She made it a point until her last days to express her love and gratitude, particularly for Marvin who was her steadfast caretaker. Mary truly had the kindest soul, she offered a tenderness and love that will never be replicated.
Mary is preceded in death by her father, Tony Lesmeister, her mother and step-father, Frances and Herman Slag, her brother Gregory Slag and her beloved daughter, Jennifer Lynch.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin, her children Adrienne Petsick (Joe) and Abraham Glaser (Monica), both of Omaha, NE. In addition, her grandchildren Eva, Emma, Ella, Amelia, Caroline, Carli, Ben and several brothers and sisters.

Obituary Preview: Bernadette Kostelecky, 70, Bismarck, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at a local Care Center. There will be no visitation or services as cremation has taken place.
Bernadette was born June 15, 1951, at Dickinson, ND, to John and Tillie (Feininger) Kostelecky. Born with severe birth defects she suffered congenital heart disease and lung disease and in 1959 underwent open heart surgery in Rochester, MN. She was raised and educated in the Bismarck, attending Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Grade School and St. Mary’s Central High School before graduating from Custer County High School in Miles City, MT. She worked for Miles City Cable TV before working as a seamstress for Cingrys Cleaners (Big Sky Cleaners) in Miles City. Later she worked for Perfection Cleaners in Bismarck as a seamstress and worked for Elan Vital making specialty dolls. With her move to Bismarck, she attended Bismarck State College where she completed a two-year clerical program and began working for Job Service North Dakota and then working for the ND Human Services at the state capital building in Bismarck. She continued to have medical issues with a deteriorating spine condition which caused her to go on disability.
Over the years she had many hobbies which included swimming, roller skating, baseball, jump roping and seeing movies. She enjoyed many crafts, oil painting, sewing dolls and toys, needlepoint, embroidery, and cross stitching to name a few. She also enjoyed photography, writing poetry and writing her autobiography entitled “Sojourner”. She received many poetry awards in the 1980’s and was listed in Who’s Who in American Poetry. Her poetry is contained in a series of volumes entitled, “Dancing Words”.

Ella's Paternal grandparents are Travis and Joy Bellamy of Whitakers, NC. Ella's maternal grandparents are Ron Messer of Bismarck, ND and Patrice Kuchera Messer of Bismarck, ND. Ella's Godparents are Anthony & Caity Horne of Bismarck, ND. Ella is also survived by aunt Joy Janay & Antonio Hinnant of Rocky Mount, NC, aunt Ashley Messer of Bismarck, ND, cousin Ariel Dancy of Rocky Mount, NC and many more uncles, aunts and cousins. Funeral Services will be held at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck on Monday, July 19, 2021, at 1:30 PM, with visitation beginning the hour before. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.
Joanne (Potts) (Nelson) Morrell was born on Feb. 16, 1930, to Alfred and Caroline Victoria (Pinks) Potts. Joanne was raised in Steele, ND, graduated from Steele High School, and attended Jamestown College. She married Leonard Nelson in 1949 and they raised four beautiful children in Steele, ND.
On November 24, 1984, Joanne married Stephen Morrell. Joanne and Stephen made their home in Bismarck. Joanne and Stephen enjoyed traveling, visiting with family, and socializing at church events. Joanne worked as a caregiver for Pride Inc. for many years and was proud to work with disabled adults. Joanne especially loved her children and grandchildren and relished the time she was able to spend with them. Joanne was a member of the Steele Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir for many years, and during her years of living in Bismarck was an active member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church. In her younger years, Joanne belonged to various women’s groups, swam at the YMCA, and loved to sew and cook delicious meals, especially desserts. Joanne will be remembered by her family and friends for her infectious smile, loving heart, and the legacy that will carry on through the generations.
Joanne is survived by her loving husband, Stephen Morrell of Bismarck; three children, Joyce Waller of Napoleon, ND, Wendell (Dorothy) Nelson of Ocean Springs, MS, Bryan (Marian) Nelson of Lovelock, NV, and daughter-in-law, Marie Nelson of Williston, ND, as well as Stephen’s children, Susan (Jerry) Frey, Rodney (Fran) Morrell, Shelly (Mark) Civerella, Stephanie Shaner, and Sheila Braun; twelve grand-children, Cindy, Donald, Garrett, Jessica, Allen, John, David, Tony, Craig, Nicolai, Leif, and Samantha; seventeen great-grandchildren, Chelsey, Reagan, Kassidy, Macy, Joe, Liberty, David, Hannah, Jacob, Madyson, Ben, Emma, Campion, Solanus, Oriana, Karley, and Dexter; and one great-great-grandchild, Mable.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Baby Potts; son, Randall; and son-in-law, Ron Waller.

During his life he was spontaneous and loved being around family and friends. He accomplished his GED while incarcerated in the federal penitentiary and planned on attending college at Tribes in Bismarck this coming fall semester. He spent his most recent years taking care of his parents and nieces and nephews after his older brother Stubby passed away. Although they were never legally married he always called Lucinda his wife, they carried the title like any other married couple. She stuck by his side the last 5 years through everything. Ira has lost many family members the last few years it took a toll on his heart, he did his best to be strong but silently hurt inside. He turned to his adopted moms Jeanette and Wanda for guidance after his mother Delphine passed away. He did his best to check in on everyone he cared about when he could. He enjoyed giving tattoos and listening to his music.

Obituary Preview: Joe Hilzendeger, husband, father of two sons, four grandsons and one granddaughter was born October 10, 1937, to Wendelin and Marcella (Feist) Hilzendeger. He grew up on the family farm in Logan County with his four sisters and seven brothers. Joe served in the U.S. Military from 1957 to 1959 and was recalled to active duty in 1961 serving until honorably discharged in January 1963. He married Florence Marquart in 1965. Joe enjoyed playing pinochle, fishing, farming and ranching.
Joe entered his heavenly home on Sunday, July 4, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2021, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. Visitation is scheduled for 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021, at DaWise-Perry/Mandan Crematory, 4211 Old Red Trail, Mandan. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Florence; sons Perry (Patty) of Van Meter, IA and their children Nik of Van Meter, IA and Sean of Iowa City, IA; and Randy (Cori) of Baldwin ND and their children Cody (Hilary) of Avon SD; Cara (special friend Craig) of Durant OK; and Cael of Baldwin, ND.

June was born in Fort Yates, ND, on the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe to Madeline “Rita” Gabe (Miller) and Stanley Ferdanan Crow. Her childhood was spent between Mobridge and Wakpala. She was the youngest of two children born in this union. She would become a mother early of two children and again 21 years later, become a mother of two more.
She loved her children and helping others, so it was no surprise when she graduated from Sitting Bull College with a degree in social services. She became a social worker and foster parent, and even a substitute teacher at Pierre Indian School. She worked at Heart of the Earth Indian School, as well as Ain Dah Yung, a home for runaway children.
Eventually she would go on to work for the government in several capacities, first at BIA, Minneapolis, MN, and later at ATF and IRS. Although she did many great things, her biggest was being a mother and grandmother. She never turned anyone away. She always had a welcoming smile and cup of coffee for anyone who stopped by.
She is survived by her four children, Evalee Crow, Wanda Marshall, Sophia Garcia and Giovanni Garcia; numerous grandchildren; brothers, Terry Fleury and George Miller; many nieces and nephews; two great-grandchildren; and her husband, Martin Garcia.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Madeline Miller; father, Stanley Crow; step-father, William Miller Sr.; sister Wanda Crow; step-brothers, Jimmy Miller and Milo Miller; grandmother, Eva Strongheart; and uncles, Carl Dueheneaux and Joseph Strongheart.

Lucretia was born August 1, 1946, in Mandan to Mike Erhardt and Eva (Geiger) Erhardt. She was raised and educated in Center, ND. After graduation, she moved to Mandan where she met and married Jim (James) Dirk on May 4, 1968. Jim and Lucretia lived in Mandan after they were married until 1991 when they relocated to Zap, ND. Together they had four children, Dale, Dana, Bob, and Kelly. Jim passed away in August of 2015. She then moved back to Mandan. Over the years Lucretia worked at several different jobs, but most enjoyed the years she spent at home taking care of her family.
Lucretia was an avid reader, and when she was not reading, she enjoyed crocheting, working with plastic mesh and other crafts. Many people left her house or were gifted with mug rug or a set of potholders. Lucretia was an excellent German cook and enjoyed getting together to make meals with her family. Her grandchildren will long remember her ramnoodla, cheese buttons, and fleishkuchle and many other family members will miss her potato salad. She loved animals and was especially attached to her cat Kiki. Lucretia was a lifetime member of The Women of the Moose and was also a member of The Homemakers for many years and she also did many a road trip with the Red Hats Club. She had such a kind heart and a warm smile that touched so many lives.
Lucretia will be deeply missed by her children Dale (Mari Kay) Dirk; Dana (Dan) Dirk; Bob (Lori) Dirk; and Kelly Dirk; four grandchildren Tate (Mikaila), Cassy (Mitch), Sam (Cody), and Morgan; one great-grandchild, Ryker; two sisters Kathy (Rodney) Friesz and Mary (Kevin) Donovan; sisters-in-law Mary Erhardt, Phyllis Dirk, Gloria Dirk, Sandy Dirk, Bonnie Miller, Andreen O'Neill, Annette (Pat) Yauney, and Debbie (Paul) Martin; brother-in law Les (Lynette) Dirk; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
