Obituary Preview: Ruth Marie Webb, 78, stepped into eternity with Jesus, on April 17, 2024.
Ruth was born in Westminster, MD to Alma and Raymond Lay. Later she resided in Knoxville, TN and retired to Williamsburg, KY. She was a loving mother to two daughters, Dawn Gibson (Scott) of Rushslyvania, OH and Rebecca Stephens (Eric) of Williamsburg, KY. She was filled with great joy to be the Mimi to her grandchildren, Kendrick Satterfield, Hannah Stephens, Bethany Stephens, Abigail Stephens, Bradley Gibson, and Breanna Gibson.
Ruth loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an avid reader and enjoyed studying the Bible. She led a women’s Bible study for many years. Ruth often said through every trial in her life, Jesus was her Hope.
Ruth enjoyed traveling and went on many wonderful adventures with her siblings in particular her sister, Dorothy. Ruth and Dorothy were so taken with their trips out West and to the Grand Canyon that Dorothy commented that one day when Jesus returns and establishes a new Heaven and Earth, that she would plan on meeting Ruth at the new Grand Canyon. Ruth showed great kindness and generosity and was a friend to many. She battled a form of dementia that stole her voice 4 years ago. However, it’s with great joy that her family knows her healing is complete and her voice has been restored. She is singing Holy, Holy, Holy to Almighty God!
Memorial service will be 4:00 PM Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the Ellison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Albert Jones officiating.
Visitation will be 3:00 PM until the memorial service time Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the funeral home.

Willard Brock - January 01, 1936 - April 10, 2024

Obituary Preview: Willard Brock, son of the late Katherine and Dillard Brock, departed this world peacefully in the morning hours of April 10th, 2024.
He was born in 1936 and raised in Blackmont, KY. Within his 88 years, he served his country during the Korean War from 1952-1954, worked for Ford Motor Company in Sandusky, Ohio, oversaw his own mining operation, and worked a short time on a right away crew.
He instilled discipline and a hard work ethic to those that grew up around him. He was a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a great grandfather.
Willard is survived by his wife of 68 years, Norma Jean Brock. His children, Willard (Willy), Gary, Rondal and Connie. Grandchildren, Josh, Nikki, Jeremy, Aaron, Ryan, Cameron and Emaly. And seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM Saturday, April 13, 2024 at the Ellison Funeral Home Chapel.
A private graveside service will follow directly after the visitation with Bro. Herman Bunch officiating. Interment will be in the Brock Family Cemetery.

Roy Arnold Buhl - May 10, 1943 - April 08, 2024

Obituary Preview: Roy Arnold Buhl, resident of Clinton Tennessee, formerly of Williamsburg, Kentucky, passed away at home on April 8, 2024 at the age of 80.
He is survived by his wife, Marienne Breinig, a son, Michael Gregory Esch of Sparkman, Arkansas, his granddaughter Christina Blaine, and great grandson Robert Gentry Blaine both of Jacksonville, Arkansas, his sister Alice Fae Weiland of Williamsburg, a niece Janet Ingram/Morris Miller, and nephews Robert Allen Ingram of Williamsburg and Aaron Weiland and wife Misty of Cleveland Georgia. He is preceded in death by his parents Willard and Elizabeth Buhl and Linda Sue Ingram his sister.
Roy graduated from Williamsburg Independent Schools in 1962 where under the guidance of Arch Caudill he excelled in math, chemistry, and displayed an interest in electronics; he is remembered for building a large successful rocket. He was recognized as All SEKC Defense for football, was a member of the Beta Club and participated in other extracurricular activities.
While attending Cumberland College where he was influenced by P.R. Jones to pursue studies in engineering, while majoring in chemistry and math. He also attended the University of Tennessee. During his time at Cumberland he began his career at the Oak Ridge National Laboratories where he ultimately became active in designing very sophisticated equipment for developing, testing, and evaluating nuclear reactor fuels. There he created both computer software programs and studied properties of nuclear fuels for reactors. He was well known for his problem solving abilities on complex issues.
Roy was an accomplished pilot, cave scuba diver, and photographer and enjoyed creating novel electronics. As an artist in his later years, some of his oil paintings were exhibited at the Oak Ridge Art Center.
In later life he suffered from radiation dermatitis and radiation induced cardiac disease from exposure to radiation as understanding of radiation safety evolved. Roy was courteous, kind and will be missed greatly by all.
The funeral service will be 3:00 PM Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the Ellison Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Lowrie officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Park Cemetery Davis Addition.

Earl was a member of the Jellico Church of God of the Mountain Assembly for many years and he worked at International Paper in Cleveland, OH. He truly loved his church family and his family.

Lisa Vanover and husband, Ron of Woodbine, Kentucky, Mary Payne and husband, Jim of London, Kentucky and Brenda Johnson and husband, Steven of LaFollette, Tennessee. She was also blessed with twelve grandchildren, plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. She was of the Baptist faith and previously worked at the Root Beer Stand in Corbin, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Ingram and Cleta Loise Kelly Brandenburg by five brothers, Johnny Ingram Brandenburg, Jr., Shelby Brandenburg, Billy Brandenburg, Jason Brandenburg and Timothy Brandenburg and by her fiancé, Kyle Vermillion.

Karen Brandenburg of Williamsburg, Kentucky, Lisa Vanover and husband, Ron of Woodbine, Kentucky, Mary Payne and husband, Jim of London, Kentucky and Brenda Johnson and husband, Steven of LaFollette, Tennessee. She was the sister of Reva Kelly of Corbin, Kentucky, Sharon Rucker of Williamsburg, Kentucky, Vickie Gabany and Janice Lundy both of Florida. She was also blessed fifty-eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. She was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the Gray Baptist Church in Gray, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Lucy Ann Lowe Kelly, by her first husband and the father of her children, John Ingram Brandenburg, Sr. by five sons, Johnny Ingram Brandenburg, Jr., Shelby Brandenburg, Billy Brandenburg, Jason Brandenburg and Timothy Brandenburg, by three brothers, Carl Kelly, Dennis Kelly and Rick Kelly and by one sister, Patricia Kelly.

Obituary Preview: Rev. Carl “Buddy” Hickman, age 82 of Corbin, KY, went to be with our Heavenly Father Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Continue Care Hospital in Corbin, KY. He was born August 4, 1941 in Virginia to the late Edgar Eugene and Oma Ellen Goins Hickman. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a son; Roy Lee Hickman.
Carl was born in Virginia and as a young man he worked in the coal mines. Later, he would go on to work for Arch Mineral in Corbin, KY. He was ordained in 1971 and preached for most of his living years. He enjoyed antique cars, attending car shows, fishing, and working on his farm.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years; Flora “Mae” Anderson Hickman, his sons; Edgar Hickman (Teresa) of Corbin, KY, Timothy Hickman (Kerrie) of Corbin, KY, two daughters; Carla Hickman of Corbin, KY, Helen Black (Rodney) of Punta Gorda, Florida, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, several friends, and family to mourn his passing.

Florence died on January 10, 2024, in Williamsburg, Kentucky, at the age of 100. She was born on November 8, 1923. Her parents were Lorenzo Dorland Baird and Charlotte Galloway Baird. She was the widow of Chester R. Young, Sr.
Florence and Chester served in Hawaii as representatives of the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board from 1949 to 1964 where Chester was pastor of the Kalihi Baptist Church. Chester taught in the history department at Cumberland College from 1967 to 1985. Florence taught in public schools in Tennessee and Kentucky.
Florence was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, Williamsburg, Kentucky, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, church librarian and deacon.
She is survived by daughters Charlotte Young (John Teague) and Virginia Young, son C. Ray Young, Jr. (Michelle), seven granddaughters, and twelve great grandchildren.
No memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones in the future when a service is scheduled. Burial will be in the cemetery of Columbia, Kentucky.

In 2017, he served as Master of Williamsburg Masonic Lodge #490 and held the esteemed position of Grand Commander Knights Templar of Kentucky in 2016 & 2017. His commitment extended to various organizations, including Bluegrass #104 York Rite College, where he was a member, and past governor of York Rite College #104. Larry was also associated with the Centurion, a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Lexington Valley, and a member of Williamsburg Commandry #50.
A proud graduate of Dupont High School Class of 1967 in Belle, West Virginia, Larry continued his education, earning degrees from Cumberland College in 1977 and Southeastern Seminary Wake Forest, NC in 1980. He retired as a special education teacher from Whitley County High School and found joy in officiating ballgames and indulging in his love for sports. An ordained minister, he served churches in North Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Larry, a Vietnam War veteran, served honorably in the U.S. Marines.
Larry is survived by his son, Ralph T. Carte II (Opelia Felipe), daughter Tory Suter (Clifton), grandchildren Kara Conley, Channing Carte, and Kason Bortz, as well as step-grandchildren Annalisa Suter, Emmanuel Suter, and Larriuce Felipe. He is also survived by his sister Wanda Smith (Joe), brothers Tom Carte, and Mark Carte (Debbie), along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
