Scott Allan Rohwer, the son of Merrill and Patricia (Kraft) Rohwer was born on July 2, 1958, in Sheldon, Iowa. He attended Paullina Schools and graduated from Paullina High School in 1977. After graduation he continued his education at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon for Diesel Mechanics. Scott worked for Ewoldt Motor Company in Primghar, Rosenboom Machine and Tool in Sheldon, and Shine Bros in Spencer. Scott married Barb Kreibaum and to this marriage two children were born, Sarah and Matthew. Scott passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 64 years, 2 months, and 14 days.
Scott was a past member of the Primghar Fire Department and enjoyed tinkering with vehicles and raced the Primghar Figure 8’s.
Scott is survived by his two children, Sarah, and Matthew Rohwer, both of Primghar; siblings, Bernard and Susan Rohwer of Paullina, Melissa Rohwer of Cherokee, Iowa and Rebecca and Pawel Jankowski of Paullina; many nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents.

Robert Lee Richter, the son of Walter and Nellie (Jurgensen) Richter was born on May 29, 1942, in Primghar, Iowa. He was baptized in 1942 and confirmed in 1957 into the Lutheran Faith. He attended school in Paullina and graduated from Paullina High School in 1961. Bob was united in marriage to Rita Duncanson on October 6, 1963, at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. The couple made their home on the family farm where Bob farmed and raised cattle, feeder pigs, chickens, and milked cows. He retired from farming in 2013 and the couple remained on the farm. Bob entered Prairie View Home in 2016. He passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022, reaching the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 20 days.
Bob was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was involved in the community for many years. He served on the Elevator Board, Jaycees, School Board President, Flying Club, and ran the chain for football games for 25 years. He enjoyed bowling and going to sporting events. He was a licensed pilot for over 20 years and enjoyed flying to “fly in breakfasts”. They also enjoyed attending Big Band Dances.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Rita; two daughters, Robin Richter of Paullina, and Rhonda (Kevin) Sikora of Spirit Lake; grandchildren, Courtney (Halley) Drake and their children, Dottie and Jovie, Alex and Aprile Sikora and their children Jaelyn and Jaxson. He was also survived by his brothers and sister-in-law, Russ (Sharon) Duncanson, Margie (Terry) Edwards, Daryl (Becky) Duncanson, Jerry (Karen) Varner, Randy Varner, Don (Lisa) Varner, Steve (Karen) Varner and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Alice (Don) Carnahan, Leslie (Deanie) Richter, nieces and nephews, Lance Carnahan, Donnie Carnahan, Sandy (Carvell) Pearson, Blair Richter, and Kelly Edwards and brother in-law, Tom Duncanson, and sister-in-law, Diana Varner.

Ellen May Watterson Rohwer, of Sutherland, Iowa passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022 reaching the age of 93 years, seven months, and twenty-seven days. Ellen was born December 16, 1928 in Ladysmith, Wisconsin; she was the daughter of Elmer E. And Mary I. (Gaynor) Steckel. Ellen graduated from Ladysmith, Wisconsin high school and later attended Minnesota Bible College for over two years. Ellen was a life-long learner and follower of Jesus Christ. She used her life as an example of being the Hands and Feet of Jesus by opening her home and heart to so many friends and family.
On June 14, 1949 she was united in marriage to Bernard E. Watterson in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. After their union, the couple made their home in Sutherland, Iowa. Ellen raised six children and gave piano lessons for several years in her home to many students. Ellen and Bernard loved camping adventures with their children, taking them to Prince Edward Island and the South Dakota Badlands. Bernard preceded her in death on June 3, 1998 in Omaha, Nebraska. Ellen remained in her Sutherland home and was united in marriage to Paul Rohwer on March 22, 2003. Ellen and Paul enjoyed their time traveling all over the country to visit friends and family. They loved exploring together, playing cards with their friends, and continued to learn and study the Bible. Paul preceded her in death on November 6, 2015.
Ellen’s faith and servant heart was at the core of everything she did. She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Sutherland where she played the organ for over 70 years. Ellen’s lifelong prayer was to tell everyone she met about Jesus and to share the joy of the kingdom of Heaven. She ministered with daily prayer and a huge heart to everyone she met. She shared her love with made-from-scratch meals and desserts, crocheted works of art, reading books to grandchildren and laughter-filled conversations. She loved being a grandma to all children and always had encouragement and a hug to give. Ellen’s beautiful heart only was set aside when Skip-O, UNO, Chasers or any card game came out… she loved to win against any family or friends! Ellen was also a member of the Christian Works and the Lamplighers of the church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Sutherland. Ellen was a peaceful presence as a caregiver at the end-of-life for many who she loved: father and mother, husbands, and brother.
In addition to her parents, Elmer and Mary Steckel, Ellen was preceded in death by her husbands, Bernard E. Watterson and Paul Rohwer; daughter, Debra Lynn Yuysteke, grandson, Justin Watterson, and brother, DeWayne Steckel.
She is survived by her children, Darrell (Ginny) Watterson of Ray, North Dakota; David (Susan) Watterson of Hastings, Minnesota; Denise (Roger) Gellhaus of Omaha, Nebraska; Dawn (Ron) Feucht of Spencer, Iowa and Dale Watterson of Julian, California, 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; her step children, Donna (Bill) Rohwer; David (Cecila) Rohwer; Ralph (Gloria) Rohwer; Lee (Marilee) Rohwer; 10 step grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren, a sister, Mary Jane Evans of San Diego, California also other relatives and many friends that will miss her dearly.

Gregory Louis Lange, the son of Louis and Marveen (Hopkins) Lange was born on October 18, 1953, in Primghar, Iowa. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. Greg attended and graduated from Paullina High School in 1971, and then attended NCC in Sheldon, Iowa. He began working at the Hartley Hospital in the maintenance department as well as an ambulance driver. Greg moved to Mason City and worked as a lab supervisor for AGP for 33 years and retired in 2012. After he retired, he moved to Spencer. Greg passed away at the Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg reaching the age of 68 years, 9 months, and 14 days.
Greg had a love for German Shepherd dogs and enjoyed spending time outside looking for beautiful rocks and taking many scenery pictures.
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings and their spouses, Patsy and Larry Schwebach, Jim and Brenda Lange both of Paullina and Jodene and Lonnie Woock of Spencer, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Tracy Frerk, Mike (Sophie) Schwebach, Chris (Dorothy) Lange, Kari (Patrick) Kent, Jamie Woock, Lindsey Woock, Jesse Woock and Lucas Woock; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews also other relatives and friends.

Eugene Carl Wallin, of Paullina, Iowa passed away surrounded by his family on July 28, 2022. He was born on September 13, 1939, in Cherokee, Iowa to Carl and Ruby (Jones) Wallin. He was educated in the Paullina Public School System and graduated in 1957. He married Judy Lange on February 14, 1960, at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa. Gene and Judy were married for 62 years. They had two children, Steven Gene, and Sandra Kae.
Gene loved to farm and raise livestock. He was active in Zion Lutheran Church where he was the Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was an elder and president of the congregation at Zion Lutheran Church. Gene served on the advisory board at American State Bank in Granville, Iowa for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Judy (Lange) Wallin, his children, Steve and Sue (Bjork) Wallin and Sandra and Jim Fritz. His grandchildren, Taylor Wallin, Travis and Abby (DeRidder) Wallin, Shara Wallin, Jake Wallin and Christian Fritz, his great grandchildren, Maci Wallin, and Zaidyn De May. He is also survived by his brother, Lyle and Phyllis (Larsen) Wallin and their children, Scott and Ashley Wallin and Stacy and John Funkhouser and their children, plus many other friends to honor his passing.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

LeRoy Charles Pingel was born October 28, 1931 on his parent’s farm north of Cleghorn, Iowa. He attended and graduated from the Cleghorn school. After graduation from high school, he was drafted into the Army and spent two years in Korea on active duty. Upon his returning from service, he began farming with his father Chris, and married Luann Wagner from Sanborn, they had two sons, LeDoyle of Grundy Center, Iowa and LeDen of Cleghorn, Iowa. The couple later adopted two girls LaNee and Lorale. In 1975 he married Beulah May Anderson, the couple moved to Paullina and enjoyed retirement there. They loved to travel by car and bus trips hitting nearly every state in the continental United States. Le Roy loved his coffee at Lange’s café and later at the convenience store in Paullina.
LeRoy passed away on Monday July 11, 2022 in Cherokee, Iowa reaching the age of 90 years 8 months and 13 days.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina and the Russell West Post of the American Legion of Paullina.
Survivors include his wife Beulah of Spirit Lake, Iowa, two sons LeDoyle of Grundy Center, Iowa LeDen and his wife Faith of Cleghorn, Iowa; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren also numerous family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Chris and Lena older sister Velma and several infant children.

Todd Matthew Brookfield born on February 1, 1971, to Lorin and Ragean Brookfield, passed away Sunday July 3rd in Sanford hospital Sioux Falls South Dakota surrounded by his family. Over his 51 years of life, he built his home in Hartley Iowa. From working at the elevator for many years along with a few side jobs he enjoyed, he also held the position of assistant fire chief for the fire department. In his free time, he enjoyed golf, all things sports - a HUGE Hawkeye and Charger fan -, along with watching his idol Michael Jordan, watching jeopardy, listening to music, spending time with his family and making sure everyone around him was laughing at his goofy jokes. Todd was a great father, son, and friend to have around. He was a very strong and gentle man who will be missed by many. There was never a dull moment with him and he was the kind of man you could trust and confide in.

Sharon Kay Stamer the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Wright) Menke was born March 21, 1942 in Primghar, Iowa. She lived on a farm near Archer, Iowa and graduated from Archer High School. On May 25, 1963, she was united in marriage to Harold Stamer at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. The couple moved to a farm in the Granville area where together, they farmed and had a dairy operation. The couple retired from farming and remained on the family farm. The couple enjoyed many bus trips to different states and through Canada meeting and making many new friends. Sharon passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at the Orange City Area Health System reaching the age of 80 years, two months and 16 days.
Sharon was confirmed on March 6, 1964 at St. John Lutheran Church where she was a member for many years. She enjoyed her family, going to many of her children and grandchildren’s activities. She was a loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeye’s especially the basketball team.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Harold of rural Granville, Iowa; children, Kimberly (Max) Rohrs of rural Granville, Iowa; Dawn (Ken) Hunt of rural Ashton, Iowa; Lisa (Doug) Koehlmoos of rural Granville, Iowa and Kevin (Karie) Stamer of rural Hospers, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren, Ashley, Sara, Brittany, Jared, Chelsie, Amanda, Andrew, Austin, Eric, Jessica, Sierra Jayson and Tyler, also 19 Great Grandchildren with one on the way; her sister, Anne (Steve) Jaycox of Waseca, Minnesota; brothers, Larry Menke of Sioux City, Iowa; Don (Marlene) Menke of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Roger (Carolyn) Menke of Fredericksburg, Virginia also other relatives and many friends.

Carol Crouse, the daughter of Carl and Gladys (Mugge) Faust was born on July 8, 1939, in Cherokee, Iowa. She attended calumet school and graduated from Calumet High School in 1957. Carol was united in marriage to Howard Crouse on October 4, 1958, in Paullina, Iowa. After their marriage they settled in Hawarden, Iowa while Howard worked construction. They later moved to the family dairy farm near Paullina. Howard and Carol worked together on the farm, retiring in 1994. Howard preceded Carol in death on June 22, 2019. Carol moved to Prairie View Campus in October of 2019. She passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2022, reaching the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 26 days.
Carol enjoyed going to auctions, and antiquing. She especially loved being on the farm and taking care of her cats and horses.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Kim and Steve Lowe of Milford, Iowa and Chris Wallin and Doug Stoermer of Melvin, Iowa; son-in-law, Neil Jurgensen; grandchildren, Nichole (Brandon) Mesler, Leah Wallin (Trevor Minor), Erin Wallin, Dustin Lowe (Tina Langmaid), Jill Jurgensen (Charlie Roseland), Austin Jurgensen (Hannah Schueder); one great-grandchild; also, other relatives and friends.

Kimberley Ann Fischer the daughter of Marlin and Dorothy (Carlson) Fischer was born September 6, 1975 in Primghar, Iowa. She received her education first in in Cherokee and later graduated from River Valley School in Rock Valley, Iowa. She made her home at Hope Haven in Rock Valley and later moved to Village Northwest in Sheldon to make her home for the last 18 years. Kimberly enjoyed many things listening to music, horses, chocolate milkshakes, walks in her wheelchair, Alvin and the Chipmunks, fireworks, and when she was younger the stories her mother read to her. She passed away on Saturday June 4, 2022 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 46 years seven months and twenty-eight days.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters Douglas (Sandi) Carlson of Orange City, Iowa; Steven (Donita) Carlson of Sutherland, Iowa; Dianna (Adrian) Collins of Carrollton, Texas; Barbara (Doug) Mathisen of Gilbert, Arizona; Valerie Fischer of Hartley, Iowa; Douglas Fischer of Apache Junction, Arizona; a sister in-law Jane Carlson Miller of Nappanee, Indiana; two brothers-in-law Dave Orthmann of Sutherland, Iowa and Martin Stofferan of Primghar, Iowa also many cousins and other relatives and friends.

Velda Kathleen Schott was born September 2, 1929 to Arthur and Lovisa (Van Sickle) Jones at Cherokee, Iowa. She passed away May 19, 2022 at Sheldon Hospital. Velda grew up on a farm near Quimby where she attended Quimby Consolidated School for 12 years graduating in 1947. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Velda then taught at schools in Rolfe, Gilmore City, Boyden-Hull, St. Catherine’s in Oyens and Remsen-Union, also substituting in a number of other schools.
At Rolfe, she met and married Robert Schott, the love of her life, at the Little Brown Church of the Vale at Nashua, Iowa on June 6, 1953. To this union were born 4 children: Kirk, Karen, Kevin, & Kandy.
The family lived in Rolfe, Lohrville, Orange City, and Granville. Velda and husband Bob were charter members of Faith Lutheran Church in Orange City. Children were a special part of Velda’s life. She was a Sunday School teacher, LYC leader, and a cub scout den mother. She was also involved in community activities in the various towns she lived in and a member of the VFW Auxiliary lifetime member. Family activities were a priority of Bob and Velda. They were active participants in their children’s activities through their school years from grade school to college.
Hobbies included sewing, quilting, camping with family and friends, gardening, and flower arranging.
She is survived by her children, Kirk (Melissa) Schott, Karen (Steve) Vermeer, Kandy Schott, and daughter-in-law Teresa (Kevin) Schott, 7 grandchildren, Joshua and Michael Schott, Michelle (Darrin) Korthals, Tiffany (Mike) Van Roekel, Neelly and Hilliary Schott, and Luke Prochaska. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Kyli Vermeer, Dalton and Dayna Korthals, and Allison and Robert Van Roekel.
Preceding her in death are her parents, older sister, Agnes, her husband, Bob Schott, a son, Kevin Schott, and grandson, Matthew Schott.

Mervyn Lee Hoermann, the son of Vernell and Betty (Bruns) Hoermann was born January 6, 1951 in Primghar, Iowa. He was baptized and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He attended school in Gaza and Paullina, graduating in 1969. He was accomplished in Basketball and FFA, and earned his Iowa Degree. Merv proceeded to graduate from Estherville Junior College with an agronomy degree.
Merv took over the family farm near Gaza following the young death of his father. He enjoyed working for area elevators as a crop and feed specialist. Most recently he was employed by the USDA as an agriculture marketing specialist. He made many friendships with cattle producers and sale barn staff.
Merv was active with the O’Brien County Fair and will be remembered for helping with beef weigh-ins, barn set-up and show ring duties. He took great pride in his kids and grandkids exhibiting livestock at multiple fairs. Merv was a member of the O’Brien County Cattlemen’s and could be found behind the grill at many events.
As an avid snowmobiler, Merv took his arctic cat sled on trails in South Dakota, Wyoming, and Michigan. Early on he operated the trail groomer and taught youth safety classes. He held positions locally and for the Iowa State Snowmobiler’s Association, serving two terms as President and earning the Snowmobiler of the Year Award. He will be remembered as the cowboy at conventions because of his hat.
It was no secret that Merv was a Green Bay Packers fan. He was often seen wearing a Packer’s sweatshirt or cap and never missed a game. Merv also enjoyed time spent with friends at antique tractor rides and shows. He could be heard high up in the bleachers, cheering at his grandkids’ many games.
Merv was deeply touched by the love and support shown at his benefit this past December and cherished those final conversations with friends. He was grateful for cards, calls, and visitors and had a special bond with his Hospice team and friends at Happy Siesta.
Left to cherish his memory are his five children, Clint (Stephanie) Hoermann of Royal, Alexis (Rich) Frerk of Paullina, Amber (Eric) Erickson of Bondurant, Mandi (Shawn) Hoermann of Ramsey MN, and Clayton (Alicia) Hoermann of Nevada IA; five grandchildren, Arianna, Justice, Archer, Westen, and Conrad; two sisters, Carol Keating of Leawood KS and LaVonne Peters of Everly IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law Larry Keating and Terry Peters.

Shirley Ann Runge, the daughter of Fritz and Ella (Puhrmann) Runge, was born February 17, 1939, on a farm outside of Larrabee in Cherokee County, Iowa. She was the fifth child of 8 brothers and sisters. She grew up on a farm around the Larrabee and Calumet areas. Shirley graduated from Larrabee High School in 1956. She then went on to attend the Ellis School of Beauty in Sioux City and graduated from there in August 1957. Shirley then went on a long career of fixing hair for many people. She spent her first 20 years working at Madelines and then she moved to Fashionette, both located in Cherokee. Shirley eventually went into business where she co-owned her own shop with her good friend Julia Fangman, called Fantasy Hair & Salon in Cherokee. Shirley later owned her own shop called Heads North, also in Cherokee. She retired from cutting hair in 2001 and spent her later years working for Perkins Stationary one day a week for 7-8 years.
Amongst all of her work and life, Shirley spent most of her time competing in her lifelong hobby of bowling where she was able to see much of the country and become a great bowler, accumulating many records and trophies. Along the way Shirley made countless friends while working and bowling. She lived most of her life in Cherokee where she resided in her famous A-Frame house.
In October 2019, she entered The Gardens Assisted Living in Cherokee. In April 2022, she entered Careage Hills Nursing Home in Cherokee. She passed away there peacefully on Thursday, April 14, 2022, after a sudden illness.
Shirley enjoyed a lot of things in life but most importantly to her was her family. She was known for being the family pie maker and making the best macaroni salad for all family gatherings.
Left to cherish her memory are her 9 nieces and nephews, 7 great nieces and nephews, and 5 great great nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Ella; sisters Dorothy Beermann, Alice Halstrom, Delores Shilling, and Betty Strilka; brothers Dale, Roger and David; brothers-in-law Alvin Beermann, Vernon Halstrom, Oscar Mews, Earl Shilling, and James Strilka; nephew Dean Beermann; family friend Larry Towe; and her paternal and maternal grandparents.

Hawarden, Iowa – Rodney Courtland Anderson, 95, from Paullina, IA, entered into eternal rest on April 5, 2022. Born in Liberty Township on July 13, 1926, the third child of Lillie (Tollefson) & Adam William Anderson. His early childhood was spent on the family farm where he began his education at Union #1 country school before graduating from Paullina High School in 1945. Shortly after graduating he was drafted and entered the U.S. Navy at the Training Center in San Diego, CA. He left service in 1946 as a US Navy, Seaman Second Class, USN-1 and received the WWII Victory medal. Coming back to the area, he continued farming with his dad and later purchased and farmed a piece of property in Larrabee, IA. Later he spent some time transforming a small convenience/grocery store into Piccadilly Pizza. He continued farming many years and he would later inherit the family farm with his older brother. They worked in partnership until Rodney retired in October of 2015. He was a faithful and loyal church member of Siloam Lutheran Church in Paullina supporting his congregation until it closed. He then became a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two siblings, Helen Knievel, Arnold Windsor Anderson, brothers-in-law Lowell Gillespie, Bill Knievel, and a nephew, Jace Knievel.
Those to mourn his passing include surviving sister Barbara Gillespie, sister-in-law Kay Anderson, two step-children Jeffrey (Conni) Quinn-Anderson and Barbara Anderson (Steve) Smith, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, fourteen nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, the angel caregivers at Hillcrest Health Care Services and St. Croix Hospice and his many, many friends.
A celebration of his life will begin with visitation from 9:00 am to 10:15 am on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Faith Lutheran Church, Marcus, IA. This will be followed by a prayer service for the family. Memorial services will be at 10:30 am with Rev. Alan Cummins and Rev. Wallace Anderson officiating. Lunch will follow the service that will include his favorite food, ice cream. Burial will follow with military honors at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina.

Alan Ray Fintel, of Paullina, IA, was brought into this world on January 19, 1960, in Sioux City, Iowa. He was the son of Marvin and Alice (Tait) Fintel. Alan was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, Iowa.
Alan enjoyed being amongst nature and outdoors which brought him on many excursions throughout his life. He especially enjoyed his bear hunting expeditions. Alan shared his wild game kills with the many friends he encountered.
His Free Spirit took him on many travels with his beloved Harley's enjoying the scenic routes throughout the country. He helped farm the family land for over 25 years. Alan is survived by his 4 children: Leshia Woodford- Redwood Falls, MN, Shonna (John) Keogh- Alexandria, MN, Nichole (Daniel) Fintel Jacobs- Paullina, IA, Joshua Fintel- Paullina, IA. 6 Grandchildren: Kaylee Jacobs, Anna Van Riesen, Jack Keogh, Sydney Keogh, Emercyn Woodford, and Brenna Jacobs. His father, Marvin Fintel. His sister and brother-in-law, Kathy, and Tim Drenkow. Many nieces and nephews:

Betty Lou Koehlmoos, the daughter of Ray and Lillian (Rohlfsen) Hattermann was born on October 29, 1932, in Primghar, Iowa. She was baptized on November 20, 1932, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hartley and later confirmed on June 9, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. She graduated from Paullina High School in 1950. On June 24, 1951, she was united in marriage to Orlynn Koehlmoos at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. After Orlynn was honorably discharged in 1954, the couple began farming. The couple farmed until they retired in 1995 and moved into Paullina in 1996. Orlynn preceded Betty in death on March 4, 2013. Betty remained in Paullina until moving to Bavarian Meadows Assisted Living in Remsen in 2019. Betty passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022, reaching the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 3 days.
Betty was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church where she served on the Ladies’ Aide, was a Braille worker, in the choir for over 40 years and taught Sunday school.
Left to cherish Betty’s memory are her three daughters and their husbands, Teresa and Kent Pauling of Le Mars, Iowa; Kathy and Phil George of Lakeville, Minnesota and Jean and Toby Waugh of Payson, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Laura (Tyler) Andersen, Kelli (Brad) Shidler, Nathan (Joni) Pauling, Bryan (Katherine) George, Dan (Laura) George, Kerry (Charles Moulins) George, Brandi Hounshell, Kelsey (Zach) Gutenson, and Michael Waugh; fifteen great grandchildren, Ali (Gabran) Gray, Carson and Cy Gaul, Elynn Andersen, Ella, Evan and Emery Shidler, Sophie and Cameron Pauling, Hazel, Sylvie and Elena George, Jaxon and Emri Hounsell, and Kaycee Gutenson. She is also survived by her brother, Alvin Hattermann and sisters, Lois Olson and Mavis Rehder and in-laws, Vernice Rahbusch and Dennis and Esther Koehlmoos, also other relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Orlynn, sister, Faye Tangeman, sister-in-law, Colleen Hattermann and brothers-in-law, John Rahbusch and Wesley Rehder.
The family would like to thank Bavarian Meadows and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care of Betty.

Sandra “Sandy” Lee Pearson the daughter of Leslie and Maxine “Deanie” (Rogers) Richter was born January 5, 1954 at Fort Belvoir, Virginia while her dad was stationed in the Army. After his discharge the young family returned to Iowa to a farm outside of Granville, Iowa. Sandy received her education in Paullina graduating from Paullina High School in 1972. She attended Northwestern College in Orange City for a short time. On June 15, 1974, she was united in marriage to Carvell Richard Pearson in Hartley, Iowa. They made their home in Ruthven, Spencer, Columbus Junction, and Orange City. Sandy had many jobs working at a lawyer’s office, in a bank, Roth Meats and Deli, Tysons-Advance Brands, RVK Redemption Center and Dutch Bakery but most important was raising her four children Lezlie, Amanda, Elizabeth and Andrew. Sandy was preceded in death by her husband Carvell on April 26, 2013 in Sioux Center, Iowa. She remained in Orange City until moving to the family farm outside of Granville, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the USD Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 68 years, two months and twenty-seven days.
She enjoyed music, singing and playing, movies, swimming, cross stitch and most especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Brittany Denise Hackett, 30, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 20, 2022, in Kingsley, Iowa.
Brittany was born September 9, 1991, in Harlingen, Texas. At the age of five, Brittany moved with her family to Paullina, Iowa. It is there that she spent her childhood and teenage years. She attended South O’Brien Community Schools until 2008 when she began attending Alternative High School in Marcus, Iowa. She earned her GED certificate in 2012.
Brittany was wed to Jeremy Hackett on July 11, 2011. They shared two beautiful daughters together, Kiah Desiree Hackett and Avery Mae Hackett. They made their home in Kingsley.
Brittany’s biggest passion was spending quality time with her daughters, her siblings, her nieces and nephews, and her closest friends. She also enjoyed being outdoors, exploring new places, reading, watching documentaries, cuddling with her two dogs, Ammo and Libby and her cat, Gracie, and sharing random facts with everyone. Some of her favorite things included her childhood blanket “TT”, the color pink, singing, taking photos, thunderstorms, and bonfires.
Brittany will be remembered for her compassionate nature, her fierce attitude, her great sense of humor, her immense friendship, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest.

Marvin Cyrus Sjaarda, the son of Nicholas C. and Dirkie (Mulder) Sjaarda, was born on January 9, 1936 at his parents’ home near Carnes, Iowa. His father died when he was a young boy. His mother later married Henry J. Mulder. Marvin attended Orange City Christian School through 8th grade and graduated from Sioux Center High School. Marvin married his high school sweetheart, Bertha (Ter Haar) Sjaarda, on July 23, 1953.
Marvin worked on the farm with his brother until moving to Paullina. Shortly after they moved, Marvin attended trade school in Kentucky for television repair after which he and Bertha bought the Paullina Radio and TV Center that they owned and operated for 18 years. Marv then worked for the United States Postal Service in Paullina and Sheldon. After retirement from the post office in 1994, Marv drove school bus, enjoyed tinkering around home, reading, and working with his son, Greg, at Circle S Metal Works.
In their earlier years, Marv and Bertha enjoyed camping and taking vacations with their family and traveling on Zenith trips. In later years, they loved spending time with their grandkids and great grandkids.
Marvin was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina, serving as an elder, deacon, and on several committees. He is remembered as always willing to help out whenever and wherever needed. He was also a member of the Paullina Lions Club. Marvin moved into Prairie View Nursing Home on June 13, 2018 until his death on March 3, 2022.

David Puhrmann the son of Monte and Ronnette (Kuehl) Puhrmann was born January 14, 1981 in Primghar, Iowa. He received his education at South O’Brien schools. David had lived his entire life in Paullina. He had been employed at Monte’s Steak House and most recently at the Hideout in Germantown as a cook, bartender and on clean-up. He passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at the Sanford U.S.D. Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 41 years, 1 month and 10 days.
He was baptized on December 31, 1981 and later confirmed on May 5, 1996 and was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He enjoyed hunting, being outside helping on the farm, working at his home tinkering with cars. He was a Minnesota Vikings fan and had a love for his German Shepherd, Max who will be with him forever.

After graduating from Canton High School in 1947, she was united in marriage to Don Knowlton at LeMars, Iowa on March 1, 1948. They lived their married life in Sanborn where they jointly operated the O.K. Rec & Lounge for 30 years.
Sally loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends. She loved playing cards with her friends. She was always baking and cleaning and making sure everyone was taken care of.
Sally is survived by her two sons, Ed (Tami) of Crescent, Iowa, and Bobby (Connie) of Primghar, Iowa; one sister, Sharon (Lloyd) Jongerius of Coloma, Wisconsin. Betty Simm was born December 28, 1927, and passed away on January 24, 2022, at the age of 94 years. Her parents were Alvin and Alice Carlson. She had one brother, Don Carlson. Betty grew up on farms in Gaza, Sutherland and Cleghorn, Iowa. She graduated from Paullina High School where she met her soulmate, Wally Simm. They were married before Wally was shipped off to World War II. When he came home, they lived in the tenant house on the Simm family farm. Wally and Betty raised three children: Susan Mary, Sheri Ann and Richard Wallace. Betty was a very caring housewife and mother. Always had good food to eat and was known as a good cook to many. She always had time for a hug or just sit and talk. There was always a smile on her face. We enjoyed her quiet demure, but she would share her opinion when needed. Betty was very involved in her church. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Paullina. She was a member of Chapter FX, P.E.O. She was involved with the Paullina Legion Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed all kinds of crafts. She made quilts for all her grandchildren and enjoyed knitting. Many Afghans were made for family. She enjoyed working with her daughters’ apron project for 4-H. She always found the best new recipes to try. Everyone enjoyed her scotch-a-roo bars and rhubarb pie. Betty always had a smile on her face, and she had a quick wit. She didn’t know a stranger so had many friendships that grew over the years. Wally and Betty enjoyed traveling with their “RV family” around the United States. They visited their son and daughter-in-law in Germany while Dick was stationed there. They enjoyed their two Hawaiian trips and went on a cruise near Alaska. There were also plenty of times when they enjoyed fishing… just the two of them enjoying the quiet of nature and each other.
