Obituary Preview: Katherine Shaver Roberts, 89, of Mount Gilead passed away early Thursday morning, May 2, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church. Rev. Tony Hancox and Rev. Glenn Hancock will officiate and interment will follow at  Melton’s Grove United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church
Katherine was born July 14, 1934 in Stanly County to the late Otis and Bessie Smith Shaver.
She was a member of Melton’s Grove United Methodist Church.  She was a retiree of Gilead Manufacturing.  Katherine was a talented seamstress. She enjoyed making clothes, especially baby clothes, and giving them away. In earlier years, she enjoyed maintaining a garden with her husband and square dancing dates. She was caring, giving, loving, and had a heart of gold. She enjoyed spending time  and cooking Sunday lunch for her family. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Hubert Shaver, Clyde Shaver, and Robert Shaver.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years,  Roy Jacobs Roberts, Sr.; sons, Roy Roberts, Jr (Dolores), Kenneth Roberts (Cheryl), Roger Roberts and Allen Roberts (Randi); daughter, Kathy Mabry (Johnny); nine grandchildren: Marsha Mabry, Megan Mabry, Kenny Roberts Jr. (Paige), Dusty Roberts (Alexandria), Jessie Smith (Wesley), Jonathan Roberts (Lily), Jordan Roberts, Zachary Moore, and Alexis Roberts; four great-grandchildren, Harper, Ada, Lilly, and Holden; and one sister, Ethel Dennis.

Ms. Morgan was born on July 26, 1962 in High Point to Kenneth Wayne Morgan and the late Hazel Starnes. In addition to her father; brother: Kenneth Wayne Morgan Jr.; she is survived by her two sisters: Cindy Hatley and Jody Wilson (Scott), all of Albemarle; A special niece she called her daughter, Kena Hatley; nephew Garrett Hatley; nieces: Tabatha Gibson (Brandon), and Samatha Shaver (Brandon); four grand-nieces: Kloey Hatley, Morgan Shaver, Maggie Shaver, and Scottlyn Gibson; one brother in law, Kent Hatley of Albemarle
She is also survived by a daughter, son, and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Albemarle. Rev. Arnette Wall will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:00 PM at the church prior to the service. Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects on Friday May 3, 2024 from 12:00PM to 4:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.
James was born on January 4, 2008 in Stanly County to Jammie Watkins Ford. He was a sophomore at Albemarle High School, where he played basketball. He was a member of Purpose Life Ministries International in Lumberton, NC under the leadership of Pastor Sherman and Shaunette Meekins. James had a contagious smile that lit up the room. He was a bright and happy child and loved to have fun with family and friends. He loved playing, especially basketball. He also enjoyed eating all kinds of different foods. He loved his family, especially his his Mama and sister.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather: James Spencer Watkins.
In addition to his mother, Jammie, he is survived by his sister, Victoria Watkins of the home; his Nana, Rev. Bronnie Lennon of Anson County; Aunt: Crystal Watkins of Albemarle; Uncle Jessie Watkins of Albemarle; special cousins: Morgan McKenzie, Moye’ McKenzie, Trenton Davis, Tyler Watkins, Paris Watkins, and Phoenix Watkins; and many special friends.

Carol was born on June 11, 1945 in Ridgeland, SC to the late Jack Haywood and Mildred Hall Ware. She was a retired Nurse and a member at Calvary Baptist Church. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family. She loved the Lord.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Myrtis Jarman; and brother-in-law, Bub Jarman.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Cyndi Akins (Kevin) and Steve Jarman (Wendy); and great-nieces and nephews: Nathan Jarman (Haleigh), Joseph Jarman, Andrew Jarman, Sarah Jarman, and Mollie Akins Reza (Macario).

A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm, Friday, April 26, 2024 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood.  Rev. Kaye Fry will officiate.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Kay was born January 13, 1948 in Stanly County to the late Atlas Monroe (Roy)  and Gennie Hopkins Hudson.  She was a member of Stony Hill United Methodist Church.  Kay was a well known pet sitter.  She loved all types of animals and was known to take home any animals that needed care.  Riding horses and spending time at the barn were her favorite pastimes.  Kay loved being outdoors and for the last couple years had worked at Morrow Mountain State Park serving in many capacities.   She was a great mother to her boys.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Ray Hatley.
She is survived by her sons, Timmy Ray Hatley(Donna) of Sanford; Tron Monroe Hatley of Albemarle; grandchildren, Seren Mary Hatley and Gavyn Christopher Hatley; two step grandchildren, Alicia and Stephen; two step great-grandchildren, Noah and Grayson.
Memorials may be made to any animal rescue in Kay’s memory.

Mr. Lefler was born on January 2, 1951 in Stanly County to the late Robert Benjamin and Ludie Gallimore Lefler. He retired from Collins and Aikman after close to 40 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Norwood. Charles was a kind and good hearted soul and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a devoted and loving son to his parents.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Earnhardt, Peggy Taylor, and James Lefler.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Andrews Lefler of the home; one son, Justin Lefler of Albemarle; and special nephew, Jerry Earnhardt (Karen).

Melissa was born December 1, 1983 in Horry County, SC to Robert “Jr” Hughes and Demetrice Spivey Eubanks. She attended South Davidson and North Stanly High Schools. She worked as an office manager and for Novant Health along with other career choices.
She loved her children and family deeply. She also loved helping others when she could. Along with some wonderful young cheerleaders they raised $ 11,000.00 for “Cheers for Smiles”.She also loved cheering on her Clemson Tigers with her children every chance she got. She also loved her Savior Jesus Christ. She decided that she needed a change before she left us and that change was Jesus.
In addition to her parents she is survived by daughter, Madison Lee Williams and son, Andrew Gordon Williams III (AJ).  Her step-mother, Candy Hughes.She is also survived by many special family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her step-father Robbie Eubanks.
We will miss our dear MeMe.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, April 26, 2024 at Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church in Norwood.  Rev. Johnny Leslie and Rev. Mike Lisk will officiate, with interment in Norview Gardens.
Terry was born June 17, 1959 in Aurora, Colorado to the late Robert Lee and Betty Brizendine Chriswisser.  He was a graduate of Boulevard Baptist School, Burleson, Texas.  Terry was a Customer Service Representative with Universal Forest Products and worked many years in the mobile home manufacturing business.  Terry was a member of Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church in Norwood. In his spare time Terry enjoyed golfing, cooking, traveling, & spending time with his family.
Terry was a proud supporter and dedicated coach for Special Olympics Stanly County. Terry coached basketball, golf, and track and field. 3 of his track teams competed in the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania.  The Penn Relays is the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States. The first team Terry coached won first place in 2011. Terry was also instrumental in bringing the sport of golf to Special Olympics Stanly County.
He is survived by his wife, Kim Loflin, his 6 children, Christopher Chriswisser (wife: Ashley) ;Rob Bailey (wife: Heather Bailey) of Berlin, MD;  Danyel Reville (husband: Bobby Reville) of Wilmington, NC; Tina Holt (husband: Josh Holt) of Albemarle, NC; Mike Bailey (wife: Tara Bailey) of Wilmington, NC;  Adam Loflin (Kathryn) and 13 grandchildren: Reagan, Rory, Keegan, Billy, Peyton, Camden, Becket, Raya, Derek, Kenna,Tessa, Asher and Jaxson; brothers, Allen Chriswisser, Steve Barger, Johnnie Chriswisser; sisters, Jeanne Graham and Jo Ann Berger-Woodall; stepmother, Brenda Chriswisser of Wills Point, TX.
Those who knew Terry knew he had a heart of gold and his sense of humor will be missed by all.

Jeanette was born February 28, 1926 in Stanly County to the late Carson Livingston and Gertrude Chapman Livingston. She spent most of her working career in the food service industry. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Norwood where she faithfully attended for many years. She also taught children’s sunday school, and sang in the choir.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert T. Thompson, and sisters Pauline Eudy, and Aileen Ballard.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Benton of Norwood, son Terry Thompson (Billie) of Marshville, brother Ralph Livingston of Virginia, six granddaughters, 15 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

As the cherished wife of her late husband, Thomas Tyler Watkins, she served as the heart of their home, infusing it with warmth, laughter, and boundless love. Her culinary delights were a testament to her hospitality, inviting all into her circle with open arms and a sumptuous meal. Whether familiar faces or strangers, Cora Mae had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel at home.
Her educational journey unfolded in the halls of Stanly County's public schools, while her spiritual home lay within the embrace of First Baptist Church of Norwood, North Carolina, during times of vitality and good health.
Cora Mae was preceded in death by her grandson, Brendon Ty'Lei Lashawn Redfern, and her siblings Lonnie "Ted" Shankle, Grover Lee Colson Jr., Julius Dan "JD" Colson, Dorothy Anne Colson Watkins, Mae Francis Colson Blackmon, and Minnie Bell Smith.
Cora Mae, was blessed with Three beautiful adoring daughters, whom she raised with unconditional love and unwavering support in which she leaves to cherish her memories Tamika D. Thompson, Shaquana Colson (Vidal) Richardson & Crystal N. Watkins . Her grandchildren, Terrol D. Thompson, Jae’Vien J. Richardson, ZaiRien J. Richardson, Nai’Korien Redfern, Jai’Kaiden Clark, Legacy Martin, & Infinity Martin. Her beloved sisters & brothers, Gardinia Morant, Octavia Baker (Robert), Leroy Colson, Jimmy Colson (Beverly). Four Sister In Laws- Saundra Watkins, Patricia Taylor-Nash (William), Beverly Watkins-Wilson & Perry Colson, Three Brother In Laws Louis Watkins (Anna), and Robert D. Watkins, & Homer Watkins. As well as, a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Friends & Family Members.
Cora Mae Watkins was a testament to love — both in the giving and receiving. Her infectious laughter, boundless compassion, and selfless spirit endeared her to all who had the privilege of crossing her path. She possessed a remarkable ability to unite people, fostering a sense of belonging and significance in every encounter. Though she has bid farewell to our physical realm, Cora Mae's legacy of love and kindness will forever endure in the hearts of those she touched. Ron was born May 3, 1960, in Mecklenburg County to the late James William and Ruby Capps Owens. He was a dedicated employee at Charlotte Pipe and Foundry, where he worked with his best friend and brother, Jerry, for over 30 years. After retiring, Ron lived a quiet and simple life, spending his days riding his Kawasaki Mule, tending to his herd of cows, and fishing on the river. His pride and joy came from his little dog and sidekick, PeeWee—if you saw Ron, you were sure to see PeeWee close by!
Ron is survived by his close friends Jeremy and Amy Efird, Rylie Tucker (Ben), and Brayden Efird.

Mrs. Turner was born on October 23, 1959 in Chesterfield, SC to the late Otis and Christine Johnson Brock. She was a carpenter and worked in construction for most of her life with her husband. Jennie loved people. She was very social and enjoyed talking and sharing life stories to anyone she met. She was full of life and enjoyed learning new things.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sister, Patty Pitcher.
She is survived by her husband, Jackie Norris Turner, of the home; three children: Jackie Lynn Poplin (Josh), Laura Elizabeth Turner, and Christy Michelle Thompson; seven grandchildren: Jennie Layne Turner, Jaxon Elijah Poplin, Tyler, Cole, Cade, Emery, and Levi; sister: Teresa Hutson; and brother: Johnny Brock.

A graveside service  with military honors  will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Norview Gardens in Norwood. .
Georgine was born June 10, 1936 in the Bronx, New York to the late Ernest Rosado and Florence Engels.  She was a retired Social Worker with the Stanly County Department of Social Services.  She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Albemarle, NC. She proudly served her country in the U S Marine Corps.  She joined the Marine Corps in 1956, began boot camp at Parris, Island, SC where she became a squad leader.  She was then assigned to Headquarters and Service Battalion in Norfolk VA where she received a Confidential Clearance.She was then assigned to Force Future Plans and was part of the Honor Guard for ceremonies in Williamsburg, VA. She received a Secret Clearance and was assigned to Logistics.  She then received a Cosmic Top Secret Clearance and was assigned to one of the four-star generals in the Marine Corps(there were only two in the Corps).  Corporal and Sergeant were meritorious promotions and was a member of the Woman Marine Rifle Team for her base. She completed all the women’s basic courses and received permission to take the men’s basic courses.  She took Jet Checkout at the Naval Air Station and additional duties included reenlistment NCO.  She taught various military subjects to members of her company.  She was Platoon Sergeant for her company and was recommended for Officer Candidate School and was discharged in 1959. She was a member of The Women marine Association,  Molly Marine Chapter LA-1 and The Marine Corps League, Stanly County Detachment 1021
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Havel Clontz and Edgar Reap.
She is survived  her special caregiver and friend, Sandi Johnson, along with her church family and friends.

Carolyn was born on July 5, 1931 in Montgomery County to the late Daniel Shufford and Pearlie Mae Harris Kelly. She attended Hickory Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church. Carolyn was a people person and never met a stranger. She loved her family and cared deeply for them. She enjoyed fishing with her late husband and planting and gardening her yard. She loved music, especially playing the piano and organ. She played at many local churches throughout her life and even played in several music groups in the community.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings: Wilburn Kelly, Clinton Kelly, James Kelly, Ruby Freeman, Irene Loftin, Emma Lea Ledbetter, Cassie Lea McCaskill.
She is survived by two sister-in-laws that were her life long friends, Evelyn Poole of Troy and Delores Kelly of Candor; and many nieces and nephews who were all very important to her.

Charlie is survived by his daughters, Leslee Wray, and Heather Lyndon, his son-in-law Daniel Wray, his grandsons Nathan Wray, Aaron Wray, and Joshua Wray, his granddaughters Kali Wray and Amber Wray, as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Lyndon (2013), his daughter, Kimberly Lyndon (1969), and his brother Jack Lyndon (2022).
Charlie graduated from Mars Hill College and NC State College with degrees in Industrial Engineering and worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 40 years. He was a humble and generous person, strong in faith, who always cared about others and loved to tell stories about his family and his many travels. He was also an avid golfer, fisherman, and photographer, animal lover, and nature enthusiast.

Ms. Eudy was born on November 22, 1928 in Stanly County to the late Van Leason and Dovie Mae Curlee Coble. She graduated from Oakboro High School and retired from Stanly Knitting Mills. Vera loved to bake and was a great cook. She enjoyed her flowers and watching the birds in her yard, especially hummingbirds.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Fred Lentz Eudy; son: Gene Eudy; and brothers: Harold ‘Bill’ Coble, and Bob Coble.
She is survived by her children: Michael Eudy (Ann), Suzanne Huneycutt (Terry), Debora Chaney (Dennis), and Betsy Tysinger (Tim); six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; special nephew, Chris Coble; special friend, Swiffie. Judy was born April 11, 1946 in Stanly County to the late Freelen William and Ruth Wilda Marie Bowers Cranford.  Judy was a 1964 graduate of Albemarle High School and was a member of Community Full Gospel Church.
Judy loved being a mama, maw maw and friend.  She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play ball.  She had a big heart for all children.  One of her greatest pleasures came from listening to her son, Mike,  preach.  When she was unable to physically attend church, she always made sure to be the first one online, letting him know that, “mama’s here”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lenora Jeanette Cranford Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene Marshall (Nugie) Lisk; son, Mike(Angie) Lisk; daughters, Tracy(Sam) Lemons and Renee Nesbitt(Rodney Lowder); seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Patty loved her family and looked forward to their weekly “soup night”.  She was the glue that held the family together.  She loved the Lord! She enjoyed being at  church and  was very active, having taught Sunday school and playing the piano.  She enjoyed traveling to the mountains and watching wildlife.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Hatley.

She was a longtime member of Melton’s Grove United Methodist Church.She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and had served on the Mount Gilead Museum Committee for many years. She enjoyed being a part of The Friends of the Town Creek Indian Mound. She and Cecil enjoyed learning about Native American history and artifacts in our region, and sharing their knowledge with others. She felt passionately about enriching  the sense of community in Mount Gilead.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Julian Cecil Hall.
She is survived by “The daughters of my heart” Cindy Hall Owens (Curtis) of Dallas, NC and Kelly Hall Lockamy (Tommy) of Locust, NC. Five grandchildren, Catherine Owens, Megan Singh (Manraj), Sullivan Owens (Evan Lawson), Bryce and Ella Lockamy. One great-grandchild Priya Singh.
