She was one of the longest participants of this program, which she was able to do for 14 hours a day, every day for 8 years with the help and support from family, friends and neighbors. These wonderful individuals enriched her life, and she did the same for them. Together, they built a community and a family among friends.
Debbie continued her education at Jawonio through her teenage years then progressed on to Blythedale, where she was the queen of her prom. She continued her education at Venture where she made many meaningful friendships. Debbie was well-liked by all because of her captivating smile and sparkle in her eyes; she was not only intelligent, but also had a sense of humor and was a good listener. She was a confidante to everyone in her circle, and was a friend to all.
As the child of two Bronx natives, it was only natural for Debbie to be a loyal fan of the NY Yankees. She met (and flirted with) many players throughout the years. She loved the beach and the sun and floating in her pool raft. She loved school and all her friends. She loved clothes and fashion and outrageous colors and patterns. Deborah gave back to others with her unconditional acceptance, love, and ability to bring those around her closer. It was her presence that brought out the best in others.
All of these accomplishments were made possible by the commitment of Debbie’s mother, Joann. She spent countless hours every day ensuring Debbie’s life was full and happy.
To say it simply, Debbie was a gift. Her life was fulfilled because of the family, friends, and neighbors who supported her, and their lives were fulfilled because of her love.

Departed: 01/03/2024 (Suffern)
Obituary Preview: Josephine Morgese, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at the Allendale Nursing Home in Allendale, N.J. with her children by her side. Josephine was born in Bronx, N.Y. on March 5, 1930, to the late Francesca (Tedesca) and Antonio Cavaliere. She graduated from a vocational school for tailoring.
Josephine married Pasquale (Pat) Morgese on October 7, 1952 at a "football wedding." Josephine and Pat started their life together in the Bronx, N.Y. where they had their son, Richard, and daughter, Diana. They later moved to Yonkers, N.Y. for a few years until they settled permanently in Airmont, N.Y. in 1965, where they had their daughter Janice. Josie spent much of her life in Airmont as a homemaker for her husband and children.
In her early 60’s, Josie moved into an apartment at the Spook Rock senior citizen complex in Montebello, N.Y. She worked at the YMCA childcare program at Cherry Lane Elementary School. Josie was like a second grandmother to the many students she cared for at the YMCA program. Teaching the students crafting, sewing, and needlepointing was the highlight of her career.
After 18 years working for the YMCA, Josephine retired and spent her days enjoying many fulfilling activities. She could often be seen in the local BINGO hall, at the slot machines in Atlantic City, playing Friday night poker and Saturday afternoon Mahjong with “the girls” from the Spook Rock senior citizen complex. Josie spent many days at the senior center eating food, dancing to music, playing games and cards, as well as having conversations with friends. Josie also loved playing Phase 10, trying her luck on scratch offs and the midday lottery where she played her birthday numbers 305 in all possible combinations.
Josie was also well traveled. She took ten trips to Aruba and loved cruising to the Caribbean, Alaska, and Hawaii. A trip of a lifetime to Rotonda di Potenza, Italy with her sister, resulted in finding their ancestral home and many distant relatives.
Josie loved parties and would be on the dance floor moving and grooving to old tunes by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Dean Martin, as well as the current hits on the Billboard Top 100. Josie had a unique style of dress. Flashy colorful clothes, sparkly jewelry, wild sequined hats, and crazy shoes became part of her favorite attire. She was also known as Josie Girl, or Josette by those who loved and admired her. She had a zest for life that carried through to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Josie cherished every moment spent with her family and friends. She was a bright light that always sparkled wherever she went and with whomever she had the pleasure of sharing special moments. Josie will be dearly missed by all the people whose lives she touched.
Josephine was predeceased by her only sister, Antoinette Amalfitano of Airmont, N.Y. Lest we forget, as the clouds part and the sun’s rays line the path to heaven, Angie will be welcomed and reunited with all her friends and family members who predeceased her into heaven. At the end of the path, Allie is waiting, reuniting them forever.
The family wishes to ask that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Joseph Adult Home in Sloatsburg, NY.

Phyllis Altkin - April 24, 1926 - December 03, 2023

Departed: 12/03/2023 (Suffern)
Obituary Preview: Phyllis Altkin,97, of Chestnut Ridge,N.Y.,passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday December 3,2023 surrounded by her family.
Phyllis was born in Brooklyn N.Y. to Max and Mollie Salzman, the youngest of 8 siblings. Whether it be out with friends in Bed Stuy or Manhattan or summers in the Catskill or Rockaway Beach, she was always dressed to the nines.
Before marriage and becoming a full-time homemaker, she worked in several high end department stores in Manhattan such as Bonwit Teller and Saks Fifth Avenue. In May of 1951,she met the love of her life, Saul. They were married seven months later on Dec.30, 1951 and began their life together in Bayside, Queens. In 1963,they built a new house and moved to Monsey where they raised their family and remained for the rest of their lives independently in that same home.
Phyllis was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She reveled in her role as a mom. She was a great cook. Her macaroni and cheese, challah stuffing and potato salad were legendary. She enjoyed going to the town pool and gym. She loved being a den mother for the Boy Scouts, hosting family get togethers and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She and Saul were not much for traveling until their four children surprised them with a cruise to Bermuda for their 50th wedding anniversary. After that they made up for lost time in their 70's and 80's enjoying many cruises and excursions to Hawaii, California, and Vegas & Atlantic City. In recent years, she enjoyed going out for weekly dinners with her son, and others to several dozen different restaurants always enjoying a Martini. A Yankee fan for life, knowing who all the players were and watching most games every season for years, she and Saul had their name on the big board at the stadium welcoming them.
Phyllis loved everyone and everyone loved her. Always a smile, she was the loveliest, most joyous person who was known by maître d's waiters, doctor's offices as if she was the guest of honor. She would return that energy making sure they knew about the lovely attention / service someone had provided. She was a gem.
Phyllis was predeceased by Saul, her loving husband of 66 years. She is survived by her loving family, daughter Maxine Davieds, son in law Tom, daughter (Susan) Hope Altkin, daughter Marilyn (MJ) Altkin, son Adam Altkin, daughter in law Grace Mary, Grandchildren Christopher Davieds (Amanda), Erica Goldwasser (Danny), Nicholas Altkin, Alexander Altkin. Great granddaughters Emma Davieds, Nicole Goldwasser, Quinn Davieds and Aubrey Goldwasser.
She is now back in the arms of her beloved husband, where they are no doubt dancing to their wedding song Because You Came To Me, along with Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You and Unforgettable where in 2014,they enchanted the entire room at their granddaughters wedding as they danced alone, unaware that they were the only ones on the dance floor. A love story for the ages.
The world was a better place with Phyllis in it. A true example of family, happiness, kindness and love and that ever- present smile. She will be forever loved and missed.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 20,2023, 11:15 a.m. at the Frederick Loescher Veterans Cemetery,220 Brick Church Road, New Hempstead, N.Y. All are welcome.
