Everett J. Frederick - October 18, 1931 - March 30, 2022

Departed: 03/30/2022 (Akron)
Obituary Preview: On March 30, 2022, at 90 years old, the Lord called Everett Jefferson Frederick to his eternal home, where he was reunited with his wife, Ruth, along with many family and friends.
Born October 18, 1931 in Kentucky, this southern gentleman never lost his charm. He grew up on a farm which he also called a Farm Factory. His favorite thing about it was picking golden delicious apples. His sense of humor was unique and to listen to him laugh at his own jokes will forever ring in the ears of all who were blessed to hear it.
Dear Pepsi Cola, you have lost your biggest customer. He no longer needs your beverage as he is now drinking from the River of Life.
The next time you dine at Cracker Barrel, most definitely Everett would highly recommend you order cornbread with pinto beans.
One of his longtime hobbies was fixing lawnmowers. He made tearing apart and rebuilding an engine look easy. He would fix them and give some of them away to those in need.
He retired early at age 55, which allowed him to enjoy raising his two granddaughters. Him singing with his guitar, and being able to make the most realistic train sound heard from anyone - ever - are treasured memories. All the kids wanted to go on field trips with Mr. Frederick because of his cool custom van that he would take them in. Not to mention his generous heart, always buying the kids in the group lemonade on trips to the zoo.
By all accounts, Everett should have left this Earth when he was shot in the head at 18 years old, but God had different plans that included 72 more years to finish out his work here. He will forever be cherished by the loved ones he leaves behind. His genuine love to help people shined through his acts of kindness everywhere he had an opportunity. He put into action Jesus' commandment to “love one another as I have loved you.”
Hopefully we all can have the same said about us.
A private service and burial have been held. Please share your thoughts and condolences by visiting his Tribute Wall above.

Christopher David Blair - May 06, 1944 - March 08, 2022

Departed: 03/08/2022 (Akron)
Obituary Preview: Christopher David Blair, 77, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 8, 2022. He was born in Seattle, Washington to the late Leon Blair and Mary Birchfield and was raised by his father and step-mother Edith (Witec) Blair, and his beloved late Aunt Sibil Leftwich.
Christopher was a worldly man known for his intelligence, wisdom, equinimity and kind heart. He wore many hats over the course of his life, from star student and horseman in his youth, to Naval Reservist, scuba instructor, lawyer and business executive in his adulthood, to father, grandfather and spiritual explorer.
Christopher was the beloved and respected eldest brother of six. As a child of a naval officer, Christopher lived abroad in his youth in France, Switzerland and Morocco, where he learned to speak several languages, including French, German. Arabic, and Spanish. Born into a family with Texas roots and a deep love for horses, Christopher became an excellent rider and horseman. At the tender age of 14, he was gifted two horses, Soucieux and Aisha, by the Princess of Morocco for helping the Moroccan government during a time of need.
Back stateside, Christopher attended the U.S. Naval Academy for one year before earning a degree in Economics from the University of Texas. He served in the Naval Reserves on the USS Ranger CV-61 for six years. He went on to earn a law degree from the University of Denver and would live the majority of his adult life in Colorado. His work as an attorney in the oil and gas industry eventually led him to become Vice President of Axem Resources, Inc. in Denver. He was ambitious, smart and respected as a lawyer.
Christopher was also a devoted father and family man. He and his wife of 12 years, Marie Commiskey, had three children for whom he cared greatly. He loved teaching his kids to ride, and never missed a track or cross-country event once his kids hit high school. He had only two hard-and-fast rules for his kids: (1) Always wear a bike helmet, and (2) Always be home for family dinner, a rule which reflected both his love of food and of togetherness.
Diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s at the age of 45, Christopher embraced the opportunity to be deeply involved in his kids’ lives. He lived with Parkinson’s for over 30 years, a feat that revealed his tenacity. His experience taught him that stress is a fact of life, but need not be a way of life, and that choice is left up to you. He always strove to look at things calmly and objectively, and to avoid drama. He was a great listener, offering up little nuggets of soft-spoken wisdom or advice when needed.
In 1995, Christopher met Miki Gabalac and their friendship blossomed into a lifelong love. They moved from Littleton, CO to Ridgway, CO in 2001 where Christopher joined the pond cleaning crew at Orvis Hot Springs and sang in the Ouray County Chorus. Christopher and Miki ran a law business together, Cow Creek Consulting. Their talents and temperaments complemented each other perfectly; Christopher had a way of calming even the most hot-headed of moments from his beloved. They loved to read and to discuss life, history, spirituality and philosophy with each other, watch old movies, and eat good food. They enjoyed a close, authentic, loving relationship for 25 years built on honesty and growth.
Christopher will be remembered fondly for his uncanny love of puns, his voracious appetite, and his signature fishing vest without which he never left home. He could make an entire batch of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies disappear overnight, and never said no to a treat or a meal. He loved music, from avant-garde jazz to classical to folk, rock ‘n roll, country and gospel. In his later years, a beautiful song would frequently bring him to tears.
And he will be remembered for his extraordinary life stories that he recorded in a memoir writing class in Paonia during his final years, where he made many dear friends.
Christopher is survived by his wife, Miki Gabalac; children, Lauren Blair (Yuri Chicovsky), Matthew (Lea) Blair and Kelsey (Theo) Mooney; grandchildren, George Oliver “Ollie” Chicovsky; Liza and Freya Blair; and Molly, Henry, and Abigale Mooney; step-children, Matthew (Larissa) Sloan and Beau (Carrie) Sloan; and step-grandchildren, Jerri, Quincy, Atticus and Peyton. He is also survived by his siblings Peter Blair, Michelle Blair Jones, Barbi Blair Stoudt and Matthew Blair, and stepmother Edith Blair.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life and potluck will be held from 2:30-5:30 p.m. May 7, 2022 at Hartwell Park in Ridgway.  Please join us to celebrate Christopher and share your thoughts and condolences by visiting his Tribute Wall above.

David Brenner - February 07, 1925 - January 12, 2022

Departed: 01/12/2022 (Akron)
Obituary Preview: David Brenner, 96, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022.  David was born in Massillon, Ohio on February 7, 1925 to Raymond and Elsie (Eckard) Brenner.  David spent his early years working with his father and grandfather as a dairy farmer on the family farm in North Lawrence, Ohio. He graduated from Washington High School in Massillon as part of the 1943 class.
In 1949 David met the first love of his life, Josephine Bergner, when she travelled from Pratt, Kansas to Massillon to visit her Uncle Will Swanson.  One day, her uncle took Josephine on a sightseeing trip around the Massillon area and they stopped to visit the Brenner dairy farm in North Lawrence.  It was there that David met Josephine.  David and Josephine went on to marry in Cairo, Kansas on Oct 1, 1950.
David continued working in the family dairy farming business but also studied at the University of Akron where he received a bachelor’s degree in 1966. Anxious to begin a career as a teacher, he received and accepted a job offer from the Hemet School District in California in 1967.  He, Josephine and their three sons packed up the family pick-up truck and headed off to Hemet, California where David lived for the next 42 years.  Over those years, he pursued varied interests, first as a math teacher at Hemet High School, then as a foreman at Skyline Manufactured Homes, and later as a financial consultant.
In 2001, David and Josephine moved back to Ohio and lived next to the old family farm. It was shortly thereafter that Josephine passed away unexpectedly and David was living alone for the first time in his life.  Years later, he met the second love of his life, Shirley (Caddes) Resh, at the First United Methodist Church in Massillon.  David and Shirley married in 2015 and shared many happy times over their years together.
David loved to watch sports, track the stock market, talk about his collection of model trains, and eat Shirley’s home-baked cookies.  He loved to discuss the latest Ohio State, Indians or Browns games and was always interested in finding out what was happening in your neck of the woods.  He enjoyed talking about politics, philosophy and debating life’s toughest questions.
David was a wonderful treasure to his family and those who knew him.  He was blessed with many good friends through his school, farming and his church, and his family and friends were equally blessed to have had him in their lives.  He will live forever in their hearts.  Left to cherish David’s memory are his wife, Shirley; sons, Chris (Donna) Brenner, Stuart (Arlene) Brenner and Arin (Conni) Brenner; and grandchildren, Andrew, Reid and Baylie.  His family and friends take comfort in knowing he is in the presence of his Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
