Janet Moschella - December 02, 1942 - April 13, 2024

Departed: 04/13/2024 (Berlin)
Obituary Preview: Janet Moschella (Linnus), age 81, of Salisbury MD passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at The Macky & Pam Stansell House in Ocean Pines, MD. She was born on December 2, 1942 to Isabelle DeBellis and was raised in Newark, New Jersey. She had a childhood surrounded by family; aunts, uncles and cousins as a part of her daily life. In 1962, Janet gave birth to her first child, Mark. In 1970, she married her life partner, Louis Moschella. In 1971, they added a daughter, Angela, to complete their family. Janet and Louis raised their family in Toms River, New Jersey. Janet and Louis settled into retirement in 2003 in Holiday Heights, New Jersey.
Janet spent most of her time raising her children and working as a real estate agent. She always had a traditional Sunday Italian dinner of pasta and “gravy” prepared for her family. She was the “cool mom” who would jump in to sing the chorus of an 80s Bon Jovi song with a car full of teenage girls. Janet and Lou loved socializing with friends and would have a yearly backyard pool party with live music, catering and good times all around. Janet loved to dance and would coax her reluctant husband out on the dance floor whenever the opportunity arose. In fact, she would often be seen dancing around the kitchen with her favorite Motown music playing. As her children moved on to start families of their own, she would dote on her grandchildren (whom she called her honey bunnies) bouncing them on her knee and singing Italian nursery rhymes. Although she said her greatest accomplishment was her children and grandchildren, she also took a great deal of pride in organizing a yearly fundraising event to purchase school supplies for underprivileged children.
Janet is predeceased by her husband, Louis Moschella. She is survived by her children Mark Linnus and his wife Patricia of Furlong, Pennsylvania and Angela Parana and her husband John of Hartly, Delaware; two grandchildren, Justin Parana and Adam Linnus and two step-grandchildren, Allison and Jonathan Parana.

Richard Lee Cole, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on February 25, 2024, at Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after bravely battling myelodysplastic syndrome. He was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments. Richard, known affectionately as Rick, was born on June 24, 1949 in Deposit, New York, to Ellis Richard Cole and Margaret Ann Taylor.
Rick’s life was characterized by his passion for both sports and community. After graduating from Sidney Central High School, he pursued his love for Physical Education, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree from Campbell College in Buies Creek, North Carolina after attending Orange County Community College in Middleton, NY. Rick dedicated himself to teaching Physical Education and Health, and although he enjoyed coaching and teaching, his true calling was found in refereeing wrestling at both the High School and Collegiate ranks. He excelled as one of the top-notch NCAA officials in the country and officiated numerous tournaments and matches, earning induction into several Halls of Fame for his contributions as both an official of wrestling and as an athlete in many sports in his outstanding career.
For the past four decades, Rick’s warm and friendly presence graced the famous Bearded Clam bar in Ocean City, Maryland, where he was not only a resident but also a beloved fixture. His infectious smile and loving attitude endeared him to all who crossed his path, leaving an indelible mark on the community.
Rick was preceded in death by his younger sister, Peggy and his father, Dick Cole. The local community and the wrestling world have lost a true gem with the passing of Rick Cole. His warmth, generosity, and love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Charles Michael Dunkes - December 10, 1939 - February 04, 2024

Departed: 02/04/2024 (Berlin)
Obituary Preview: Charles Michael “Mike” Dunkes, 84, passed away peacefully on Feb. 4, 2024, at home in Rehoboth Beach, surrounded by family. He was a beloved and treasured husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. Born Dec. 10, 1939, in Baltimore, Md., to George Dunkes and Ellen V. Dunkes, Dunkes graduated from Milford High School before entering basic training with the U.S. Army, where he served as a reservist for seven years. In 1960, he married his sweetheart, Joann, to whom he had said, “You’d be neat if you weren’t so tall” when they first danced together three years earlier. (Let it be known that on the second Christmas after they were married, he bought her high heels, despite the fact that she was an inch taller than he was.)
Dunkes enjoyed a long career in wood products, beginning as a sales trainee with Weyerhauser. Along the way, he received a patent for a planking profile he created —just one example of his gift for creative problem-solving. During his career, he made many lasting friendships among customers and co-workers alike. When he retired, Dunkes was vice president for sales and marketing with PGM Industries.
Despite frequent work-related travels, which took him across the country and all over the world, Dunkes supported the activities of his children and grandchildren with great enthusiasm. He and Joann attended many, many swim meets, soccer games, concerts. plays and recitals as parents and grandparents. He coached youth soccer in Bel Air, Md., and Worthington, Ohio. He and Joann were charter members of the Fountain Green Swim Club in Bel Air, Md.
During the 1970s, Dunkes served as president of the Fairway Homeowners Association in Bel Air, Md., during which he oversaw many neighborhood picnics and activities. He enjoyed taking his family out on their Cris-Craft cabin cruiser, the MiJoKer, when the family lived in Salisbury, Md., and bowling in a Friday-night league at Cherokee Lanes in Salisbury.
After retirement, he joined the Fort Miles Historical Association as a Bunker Buster volunteer. He served several years on the FMHA Board of Directors, and considered his work to restore and promote the fort one of his greatest endeavors in life. He truly cherished the friends he made at Fort Miles and, although quite humble about his accomplishments there, he loved talking to folks everywhere he went about the fort. “Have you heard about Fort Miles?” was his favorite conversation opener, wherever he went.
He never met a stranger. He amazed his family with his ability to talk to anyone about anything and always find something in common.
Mike and Joann Dunkes purchased their home in Rehoboth Beach in October 1995, building cherished memories at the beach with children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He enjoyed projects involving home improvement, and his Rehoboth Beach home reflects his love of woodworking. He loved walking the beach near their home with his dog, Rudy. He braved the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean each New Year’s Day for several years with his granddaughter Kelsey for the Exercise Like the Eskimos plunge in Bethany Beach.
A dedicated devotee of golf, Dunkes enjoyed playing the game with friends wherever he lived; while living in Columbus, Ohio, he often attended the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield. He was a huge Baltimore Ravens fan and loved attending games with his granddaughter Kelsey and son-in-law Eric. If he wasn’t talking to people about Fort Miles or bragging about his family, he was remarking “How ’bout those Ravens?” to just about anyone.
Dunkes is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joann Dunkes; brother George T. “Tommy” Dunkes (and Dawn) of Bel Air, Md.; daughter Kerin Magill of Ocean View, Del., (and Eric); son Tom Dunkes of Granville, Ohio, (and Kim); and grandchildren Kelsey Magill of Washington, D.C., Nathaniel Magill of Ocean View, and Sophia Dunkes, Liam Dunkes and Emma Dunkes of Granville, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom he adored.

He was a multi-term member of the resort's Board of Zoning Appeals, the Berlin-Ocean City Optimist Club, the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce Foundation Board and the Ocean City Arts Advisory Board. In his free time, a favorite outlet was serving on the Big Brothers, Big Sisters' advisory board. He also was a member of the Delmarva Irish-American Club, and a fixture for 19 years as a broadcast host of its annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ocean City.
A lifelong Methodist, Dean worshipped at historic Atlantic United Methodist Church in downtown Ocean City.
He is survived by his only sibling, Jane Langrall Robinson and her husband William; a niece, Emily Balea Hopkins, her husband, Rob, and their sons Jameson and Landon, all of Salisbury; a paternal cousin, Marcie Zink and her husband Butch of Lutherville, Md. and their two children; and maternal cousins Connie Morris, Terri Cornelius and Joan Malone, all of Salisbury, and their children.
To honor Dean’s memory, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society (P.O. Box 18090 Middle River, MD 21220) or Coastal Hospice (P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury MD 21802), which provided him incomparable support over the past 4½ months.
