Ernestine was a person of exceptional intelligence, and patience. She had the ability to empathize with others and to see gray areas. She was born to the late Emma and Ernest Collins in Union, South Carolina on June 10, 1945. She was a member and Valedictorian of the Carver High School Class of 1962. She was a graduate of Fisk University and continued her studies at University of Minnesota, Clemson University and Hamline University Law school. Her career achievements included Human Resources, labor relations and mediation. She worked towards positive change within organizations that would make them more receptive to diversity in staffing these included Milliken and Company, Bell South-Public Relations and the University of Minnesota. After raising her only child, Steven Brian Collins Bailey and living in Nashville, New Orleans and Minneapolis she returned to her hometown of Spartanburg, SC. She reunited with her first love , Elishia Anderson. Together they worked his 40 year business Anderson Upholstery Cleaning Specialist. She also worked along with her parents and sister Kittie Collins Tullis at E.L Collins Funeral home and Liberty Bonding Company. She enjoyed volunteering with the Juvenile Justice program. She loved her friends and called them her “chosen family”, Doris Wright Gibbs, Joan and Bill Thomas, Mary Wells, Anita Dabon and her Other Mom, the late Helen Bobo. She leaves to cherish her first and last love, Elishia Anderson; a much loved son Steven Bailey (Michelle) of Minneapolis, MN; daughters in love; Stacy Anderson Powe (Ron); Madgie Anderson Scott (Keith); of Detroit,MI; sister, Kittie Collins Tullis; nephew, Rodman Collins Tullis (Veronica); grandchildren; Jada Sky Bailey, Isaiah Collins Bailey, Christopher Charles Packer all of Minneapolis, MN, Dujuan Mitchell ( Tressa) of Spartanburg, Glenn Anderson (Colina) , Adovia Alston, Khadija Hicks (Marlon), Brandon Anderson, Micah and Derrick Scott all of Detroit, MI; ten great grandchildren; several families Patton, Collins, Hunter, Tullis, Bailey, Lewis, Rogers, Douglas/Farrs members with whom she shared love. Obituary Preview: Mrs. Leatrice Laverne Whitlock-Cox passed way on February 20, 2022.  A native of Columbus, GA, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson McIntyre and the late Ella Mae Bailey McIntyre. After graduating from high school, Mrs. Cox received her bachelor's degree in Library Science form Columbus College.  A faithful and loving wife to Robert Russell Whitlock for 38 years until his death, she found companionship with Lawrence Cox with whom she was wed until his passing.  Mrs. Cox worked as the librarian at Greenville Technical College form 1970 to her retirement in !998.  While in Greenville she attended West Gantt Baptist Church and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.  Mrs. Cox loved reading, working crosswords, bingo, bowling dancing and music.  She was a friendly, outgoing, people person who loved the Clemson Tigers.  Mrs. Cox and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Whitlock Mabry and Sarah Arlene Whitlock of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Brian Scott Washburn (Donna) of Bellevue, FL, Jason Robert Washburn (Melanie) of Iva, SC, Jeremy Alan Watson (Linda) of Reidville, SC, Laura Watson Chandler (Shaun) of Mauldin, SC, Jonathan Ross Mabry (Paola) of Spartanburg, SC, Joshua Dushane of Greenville, SC; a special cousin, Beverly Riddick of Columbus, GA; nine great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren..

Obituary Preview: Miriam Therese Dela Rosa entered eternal rest on Thursday, January 20, 2022 after an extended illness.  Ms. Dela Rosa was a born in Manila, Philippines to the Venusto and Paula Dela Rosa and was a lifelong devote Roman Catholic.   She received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and began her career as a nurse.  Miriam subsequently accepted a sponsorship to come to Northern New Jersey where she worked as a NICU Nurse.  After 30 years of service she moved to Boiling Springs, SC and served as a Traveling Nurse until her retirement due to illness.
Miriam was a consistent honor student during her childhood days and developed a passion in sketching, painting, and drawing. A quiet and reserved person but stands up for her rights, strong willed but a loving daughter, sister, and friend. Her ability to extend help when needed touched many lives with her generosity, her loving heart and passion for life. She is survived by her sisters Carrie Sundian (Robert) of Boiling Springs SC, Cathy Hernandez (Moises) of Monroeville PA, and Maria Gracia, Fatima Oliva (Joel) and Vivien Cristina of Manila, Philippines. Her brothers Peter Raymond and Venusto De la Rosa Jr. (Susan) of the Philippines also.

Obituary Preview: In the evening hours of Friday, January 7, 2022, Mr. Harold Ross Theiss entered eternal rest. A native of Adams County, OH, Harold graduated from Belfast High School in Belfast, OH. He furthered his education at Wilmington College in Wilmington, OH receiving a BA degree in Education. He then received a Master's Degree in Education from Miami University in Oxford, OH. In July of 1952, Mr. Theiss volunteered for service in the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged, he embarked upon his life's work in public education. He was an elementary teacher and then Principal in the Mariemont OH School District for 30 years.
After retirement, Harold relocated to Dade City, FL in 1999 and then to Woodruff, SC in 2019. He loved painting, woodworking, bowling, camping, canoeing, gardening and golf. During his life, he was an active member of the Lion's Club, Knights of Pythias, and the United States Canoe Association through which he met his wife of 39 years, Joan K. Theiss.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Theiss leaves two daughters (born of his marriage to Margaret Ann Young) Pamela Lynne (Dan) Jones of Cincinnati, OH and Nancy Jeanne Eichstadt-Jody (Edward) of Moore, SC; sister Shirley Leininger (Bill) of Hillsboro, OH; sister-in-law Sue Theiss of Columbus, OH; grandchildren Ryan Benhase (Amy) of Cincinnati, OH, Nicholas Benhase (Sarah) of Milford, OH, and Taylor Jones of Cincinnati, OH; great-grandchildren Jericho, Anna, and Milo.

Obituary Preview: On December 19, Dr. Joseph D. Patton III joined his beloved wife of 28 years, Josephine Bell Patton, in eternal rest. Joseph (“Joey”) was born on December 5, 1942 in Spartanburg, SC and was 79 years old. Joey was the eldest child of Joseph D. Patton and Fordham Margaret Foster Patton. Joey served in the US Army and was a graduate of St. Emma Military Academy and Voorhees College. He went on to receive an honorary doctorate from Lander University in Greenwood, SC and completed several professional courses at well-known institutions including, the University of Georgia, University of Miami, Washington College and the College of Charleston. Joey was a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, and he upheld the name’s meaning to the fullest extent--"Friendship is Essential to the Soul."
A respected member of the community and South Carolina at large, Joey went on to build a successful career as a human resources executive, spending 15 years in his final post as CEO of GLEAMNS, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting the war on poverty by delivering services and opportunities to those most in need. Joey’s leadership and dedication brought him to his most rewarding project—overseeing the relocation and restoration of the Dr. Benjamin Mays house and school, and the addition and curation of the on-site museum, now collectively known as the Benjamin E. Mays Historical Site located on the GLEAMNS campus. Mays was most known for being a mentor to Martin Luther King, Jr. and longtime President of Morehouse College. Joey was also integral in launching the Magic Johnson Community Empowerment Center in conjunction with the Magic Johnson Foundation. Joey was a member of several organizations, including serving as a member of the South Carolina State Workforce Investment Board.
Joey went on to receive many accolades during his storied career. In 2007, he was inducted into South Carolina’s Black Hall of Fame. In 2014, he received his highest honor—the Order of the Palmetto—which is South Carolina’s highest civilian honor which recognizes those who have exemplified an extraordinary lifetime of service and achievements to the state of South Carolina. Other organizations have recognized Joey for his outstanding achievements at the national, state and local levels.
For those that knew Joey best, he could be described as commanding, brilliant, and most notably, witty beyond measure. Joey could fill a room with his presence alone, and his deft guidance and mentorship to those around him created many pathways to opportunity for those he touched.
Joey is survived by his children, Jerrod S. Patton (Kristy) of Atlanta, Georgia, Angus James Bell (Nicole) of Holmdel, NJ, Brian J. Selph (Cheryl) of Washington, D.C., Selece J. Beasley (Steven) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Thomas Jones (Lauri) of Woodstock, Maryland, and beautiful grandchildren Noah, Jonah, Grayson, Kendall, McKinley, Jackson, Steven, Sierra, Flancie, Trae, Emy and Kaedin. He also leaves behind his loving sister Rosalind Patton Brown, a devoted niece and nephew, Rhonda and Roosevelt Young, Jr., and nephew, Emerson Bradley Brown (Jennifer), all of Spartanburg, SC, and cousins Joan Dowdy Jones, Kittie C. Tullis and Ernestine C. Anderson and numerous extended family members.

Obituary Preview: On Thursday, September 16, 2021, Rev. Robert Ervin Sims went to live in his heavenly home.  Rev. Sims was the son of the late Ludy and Shirley Sims.  He was born in Detroit, MI on June 6, 1957.
Educated in Spartanburg County, he served in the United States Army and later relocated Lexington, SC.  Rev. Sims had a career as a licensed truck driver and served as the Assistant Pastor of the Haskell Heights Progressive Baptist Church in Columbia, SC.  In addition to his pastoral duties, he served as a Chaplain at Christ Contral Ministries in Lexington.
Rev. Sims was an avid CB’er who went by the handle “Pops”.  He also loved dump trucks, cooking, fishing, traveling, donating his time to others, and his membership in the Eureka Lodge #1 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Columbia.
Those left to cherish fond memories are: his loving fiancee, Louise Stokes of Lexington, SC; his sons, Robert Sims, Jr. and Dreyon Dodd, both of Spartanburg; brother, Rev. If you knew Evelyn, you knew she was generous with her wisdom, rarely at a loss of words and loved to laugh.  Evelyn never let her blindness slow her down and she often spent her time reading her braille books and magazines, listening to books on tapes, keeping up with her children, grandchildren, and close friends, and she was always knitting to make gifts for family and friends.  She was an avid scrabble player and looked forward to playing with her grandchildren.  Her family was her pride and joy!  Evelyn was a faithful member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC, past member of the National Federation of the Blind and the National Federation of the Blind of Spartanburg where she held the office of treasurer for over 7 years.  She often attended the North Carolina Association Workers for the Blind in Raleigh, NC with her husband Tim.  This trip was something they both looked forward to each year as they loved to ride the train from Spartanburg, SC to Raleigh, NC.
Evelyn was born on June 5, 1947 in Anderson, SC to the late Henry Fields and Garrissie Dutton Fields Gault.  She is proceeded in death by her parents, step-father Ray Gault, husbands Albert Easler and Lester Bolick, and first-born son, Melvin Joseph (Joey) Easler.  Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 9 ½ years Timothy Gilstrap of Spartanburg, SC; sons Eric Easler of Spartanburg, SC, George (Misty) Easler of Mt. Airy, NC, Robert (Kathy) Bolick of Spartanburg, SC and Matthew (Melody) Bolick of Spartanburg SC; grandchildren Kristen Easler, Jordan Easler, Devin Henson, Christopher Easler, Benjamin Bolick, Adah Easler, Isaiah Easler, Emma Bolick, Robert Bolick, Elijah Bolick, Cassilyn Bolick, Ethan Easler, Wilson Bolick, Mary Ruth Easler, and Wesley Bolick; step-son Luke Bolick; sister Linda McGill and her beloved dog, Jeb.
The family asks that you continue to honor Evelyn by loving graciously, living earnestly, and forgiving easily.  E.L. Danny was preceded in death by his father Danny Ray (Dan) Coleman of Greenville, SC.
Danny graduated from Pickens High School and Greenville Technical College where he received an Associates Degree in Airplane Mechanics.  Shortly thereafter he joined the US Coast Guard as a boatswain’s mate.  He then went on to Securitas and Bell & Honey Installation systems in Cary, NC.  Eventually Danny joined his father’s business, Atlantic Security & Communications, becoming the lead Service & Installation Technician.  After 15 years, Danny became an over-the-road truck driver for Blacklidge.
Over the course of his life, Danny enjoyed volunteering his time to help others. He was a volunteer for the Pumpkintown Fire Dept, Cherokee Creek Fire Dept (Captain), Gaffney City Police Dept. (Reserve Lieutenant), Cherokee County Police Dept. (Reserve Officer) and he was a 32nd degree Mason at the Boiling Springs Masonic Lodge AFM413.  Danny was very proud of all of his service years with each of these associations.
