Craig A. Linet - March 05, 1973 - March 19, 2022

Departed: 03/19/2022 (Phoenicia)
Obituary Preview: SAUGERTIES            Craig Adam Linet, 49, died unexpectedly on March 19th,  2022, at his residence. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 5, 1973, he was the brilliant, first-born, red-headed child of Lois and Les Linet.
From start to finish, Craig was his own wonderfully distinct person. He was a quirky charmer with a clever and curious mind. As a young child, next-door neighbors described him as having “flaming hair and toothy grin.” He and his younger sister Valerie shared mutual delight as playmates during their early years.  Craig was said to be the only one who could send her into wild peals of laughter.
Craig’s intelligence was apparent from the start, and the brightness of his mind was literally off the standardized testing charts. Craig's life was not a straight line, however. At the age of 8, he was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, a neurologic disorder that caused physical tics which burdened his body and mind. Over the years there were many labels used to describe the challenges he faced, though none of them told the real story.  Craig was, and understood himself to be, a resilient person whose philosophy, personality, values, and sensitivity were shaped both by the gifts he received and difficulties he experienced. He attended Vassar College, where he studied computer science,  and he became a certified reiki master later in life.
Craig leaves a precious inheritance, which reminds us that: We are able to love without fixing or saving; We are whole, even when we suffer or think we might be broken; Humor is medicine and laughter is a courageous way to meet one’s own pain; Heart matters most...who we are is vaster than our thinking brains.
Besides his parents, survivors include sister Valerie Linet and brother-in-law Jeffrey Roberts, as well as step-mother Irene, aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides. There are also many friends, including dear ones from Japan, who lived in the Linet household and became part of the family.
Craig’s memorial service was held privately on March 25th. Arrangements were under the direction of the Gormley Funeral Home, Phoenica, NY. Expressions of condolence may be shared with Craig’s family on his Tribute Wall at www.GormleyFuneralHome.com.

Rusty Mae Moore - October 25, 1941 - February 23, 2022

Departed: 02/23/2022 (Phoenicia)
Obituary Preview: Pine Hill-     Dr. Rusty Mae Moore, Phd., of Pine Hill died Wednesday February 23, 2022 at her residence. Born to Paul Martin Moore and Mary (nee Long) Moore on October 25, 1941 in Aliquippa, PA , Dr. Moore  was a Professor Emeritus of International Business at Hofstra University after a long academic career. Rusty was very popular with her students and had a unique teaching style, both erudite and accessible. Later in life, Rusty courageously transitioned as a Trans woman, retaining both her professional status and maintained very strong relationships with her children. In 1995, Dr. Moore and her wife, Chelsea Goodwin, decided to share their living space in a beautiful brownstone in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Rusty opened her doors to the then greatly marginalized Transgendered Community, firstly with close friends, who included Julia Brigid Murray, Kristiana Thomas and Antonia Cambareri. Over time, the residence became affectionately known as "Transy House" and housed many people, both Trans and LGB Folks.Quickly gaining notoriety as the first of Its kind, Transy House welcomed a Norweigian exchange student, Camilla Petterson of Oslo, who wrote a thesis on violence towards Trans People in the United States. Camilla remained a close friend of Rusty and many residents through the years. Political activism was a natural outgrowth of the unique communal life of Transy House. Rusty became an ardent activist of Trans and LGBT civil rights. This extended to her professional life, when she taught the very first Gender Studies course at Hofstra University. This was in addition to many years of involvement with the Metropolitan Gender Network, taking on various roles, including president. In the last remaining years, Rusty provided housing for Sylvia Rivera, the famed Stonewall Rebellion veteran and activist of decades. The two became very close friends. Outside of Rusty Mae's political and charitable activities, she was an accomplished guitar player and had great enthusiasm for an eclectic array of music, including County and Western, Goth, Classical R&B and even some Hip Hop. Dr. Moore also had a natural talent for photography as well as documentary style film making. She leaves behind a large archive documenting her life and the Trans culture of NYC of the 1990's. Dr. Rusty Mae Moore is survived by her loving spouse , Chelsea Goodwin of Pine Hill, New York, her three children, Jonica Moore of Brooklyn, New York, Amanda (Moore) Rogers, and Colin Zug Moore McGeorge of New Orleans, Louisiana, her two grandchildren, Caleb and Felix.
