Obituary Preview: Jeannie Myers Buhrman, 65, of Colonial Heights passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. Born February 28, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Yvonne Jones and Edward John Myers, Sr., and was also preceded in death by her son, Andrew Nicholas Buhrman; brother, Edward John Myers, Jr.; and nephew, Justin Edward Myers.
She was known for her amazing work ethic, starting at her family’s business, Short Stop Grocery, for about 14 years, then moving to Ukrops, where she worked for 12 years. After her time with Ukrops, she worked for Suntrust Bank for nine years before finally retiring.
A loving and devoted mother, nanny, sister and cat mom, the love she had for her family was unmeasurable. Coming in at a close second was I Love Lucy, The Beatles and ABC soap operas.
She is survived by her son, Christopher Michael Buhrman and wife, Abbey; granddaughter, Aubrey Ann Buhrman; sister-in-law, Patricia B. Myers; niece, Lauren Myers Stiglich; cat-child, Piper; other extended family members and many friends. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Mrs. Jeannie’s aides, Stephanie Webster, Krysten Callahan and Jordan Tingley, as well as everyone involved at Consumer Direct.

Obituary Preview: Debra Bradley Smith, 64, of Church Road, Virginia passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022. Born April 24, 1957, she was the daughter of Alton Earl Bradley and the late Carol Kelley Bradley. She was a longtime member of Smyrna Baptist Church.
Debra enjoyed working as a substitute teacher at Northview Elementary School while her children attended. She was the president of the PTA and cherished her time as a stay-at-home mom until 2006, when she started working for Bellwood Federal Credit Union. She enjoyed reading and loved putting together family gatherings, where she always served her world-famous coleslaw. While her husband was serving in the United States Navy, Debra served as an ombudsman, which is an information link between command leadership and command families for the U.S.S. Enterprise.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 30 years, Steven Randolph Smith; children, Randy Smith and Morgan Wolfe and husband, Christopher; cherished grandchild on the way; father, Alton Earl Bradley; brother, Al Bradley Jr. and wife, Kim; two sisters, Linda Bradley and Jennifer Robinson and husband, Thomas; aunt and good friend, Penny Adams; very good friend, Diana Shoemaker and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and many friends.

Edna Mae Howard-Sleeper - November 28, 1926 - April 13, 2022

Obituary Preview: Edna York Howard-Sleeper passed away on April 13, 2022, at the age of 95 years old. Edna was a resident of tri-cities area since 1964. Since 2019, Edna was an assisted living resident at Dunlop House in Colonial Heights, VA. She was born in Franklin, Massachusetts on November 28, 1926.
Edna was married to her high school sweetheart, Roger Elder Howard, from June 1946 until his death in November 1994. She remarried in 1997 to Stanley Charles Sleeper until his death in 2002. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Arthur L. York Sr. and Edna Nancy York, and siblings, Arthur L. York Jr., Jane E. Kennedy, and Frances E. Sleeper.
Her school years were spent in Lebanon NH where she graduated from Lebanon High School in 1944. While in high school, she worked as a secretary for the Geological Society of NH.
Edna worked as a secretary to the assistant dean of Colby College in Waterville, ME. She also worked at several realty companies in the tri-cities area as secretary, agent and broker: Alsage Realty, Lavenstein Realty, B. Z. Clark Realty, and Swearingin Realty in Colonial Heights. She also was licensed in real estate management (managing 7 properties-strip malls and the mall in Petersburg as well as the Woodmere apartment complex) and was an appraiser.
Edna was very active with many hobbies and activities including quilting, sewing, knitting, stenciling, tole painting, attending the theater at Fort Lee, attending the speaker series at the Hopewell Library and garden clubs. She enjoyed playing cards with friends including bridge and canasta. Edna was a member of the Order of the East Star Pioneer Chapter #11 in Lisbon Falls Maine and the past president for several years of the Federated Women’s Club of Petersburg. She was active until her death and loved going to the Country of Club of Petersburg with Jayne, her daughter, to see friends and enjoy her favorite – crabcakes!
Edna is survived by her loving daughters, Christa H. Southall (Henry), Jayne H. Thacker, and Nancy H. Berry; grandchildren, Roger H. Southall (Tammy), David V. Southall (Ashley), Kristin E.S. Hunter (Daniel), Kathryn J. Mathias (David), and Sara E. Berry; great-grandchildren, Roger H. Southall II, Scott C. Southall, and Henry R. Southall; and many other extended family members.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road S. He was born on January 12, 1959, to the late Ruth and John “Horse” Walker, Jr. Allen worked for The Carriage House preservation apartments as a maintenance man for many years. From the years 1981 to 1986 he volunteered for the Carson fire department. Allen was a jack of all trades, but he especially enjoyed spending his free time fishing and hunting.

Obituary Preview: Milton Howard Skelton, 93, of Heathsville, Virginia passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022. Born March 31, 1929, he was the son of the late Benjamin Howard and Lucy Green Skelton, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Lena Skelton; and six siblings.
Milton worked in many barbershops throughout the years in Petersburg. Once the family business, West End Barbershop, closed, he was finally able to retire after close to 50 years of dedicated service to his community. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, and also enjoyed working in his yard.
He is survived by his loving children, Grace Skelton Connor and husband, Michael, Milton Howard Skelton, Jr. and wife, Tish Coale; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann Wathall; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She is a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Colonial Heights and was employed by the Virginia State Police as an analyst.

Sue was born in Pulaski, Virginia to the late Carl Anthony and Dorothy Kitts Bopp and is survived by her dear devoted sister,  Lynn Bopp White (Pood) and her husband, George of Georgetown, South Carolina and her brother, Robert Bopp and wife, Kathy of Pulaski; niece and god daughter, Erin Craig (Eric) and Wyatt, Caroline and Anna Kate, McClellanvile, South Carolina; niece, Rebecca Bopp and Nephew, Robert Bopp (April) and Hannah, Luke and Allyson of Pulaski, Virginia, and by dear, devoted, much-loved special friends and companions, Dr. Barbara V. Goodman and Kay and Jay Freeman. Sue was very proud of her Radford University BS degree, as well as her Master's Degree in geology. While at Radford, she was a member of the Red Coats Equestrian Team. Her teaching career spanned 30 years, beginning at Sussex Central High School and continuing at Colonial Heights High School where she was a dedicated and beloved teacher as reflected by comments from many former students who fondly shared with her how she positively influenced their lives and made them laugh. Sue loved her connections to friends from her teacher's lunch group, her Radford cronies, former students, the Goodman family, Wendas, Janel, PC, and colleagues from her many part-time work venues (Thalhimers, Ukrops/Martins and Cracker Barrel) where she was recognized by management and by customers, even long after she left each workplace, for going the extra mile with a smile. At the top of her list for fun was traveling anywhere with her best friends Barbara and Kay where laughter was always present. Her kitchen was her domain and she loved cooking up Southern food delights - especially after getting a new recipe from The Food Channel or from one of her nearly 100 cookbooks. Her feistiness, tenacity, home-cooked meals, loyalty, dedication, sense of humor and infectious smile will be sorely missed. Obituary Preview: Adam Newton (38) of Prince George, Virginia passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022.
He graduated from Southern Nash High School in Nash County North Carolina in 2004. He lived in Prince George, VA with his wife and dog Rambo.
His family is deeply saddened, he will continue to live in the hearts of many, both friends and family.
Adam took great pride in his work; he was a Master Landscaper. He loved being outside whether it was working, fishing, playing with his dogs or spending time with his wife, family and friends. Adam had a special place in his heart for his elderly customers as they reminded him of his beloved Grandma.
Adam was a kind and loving son, brother, uncle, friend, and husband who loved wholeheartedly and unconditionally. He loved things simple like trips to the beach, mountains and Lake Chesdin with his wife and spending time family and friends.
The family would like to express our gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and chaplains in the VCU Critical Care Hospital for their care of Adam upon his arrival and during the organ donation process. Adam’s organs were placed in five different recipients. He will continue to help others, even in death as he would have wanted.
Adam was predeceased by Lois C. Newton (Grandma), Shelton (Shack) T. Newton Sr. (Grandaddy), Shelton (Shelly) T. Newton Jr. (Uncle), Maime S. Rowlett (Grandma) Cleveland P. Rowlett (Grandpa). He was survived by his wife Carey M Newton, Diane R. Adams (Mom) and husband Eddie, Kenneth C Newton (Dad), Michelle H Motes (sister) and husband Russten, Stephanie B. Adams (sister), Elizabeth A. Shields (sister) and her husband Nicholas, Jonathan E. Adams (brother) and his wife Kaitlin. Adam also had a special place in his heart for his nephews Bodhi A. Miles and Daniel A. Parton and newest nephew Jackson T. Adams. Anabel W. Newton (aunt)
Adam’s remains will be buried at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Virginia on Thursday, April 14. 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newton grave site with his gem of a Grandma Lois C. Newton.
A reception will be held at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church located at 3110 Greenwood Ave Colonial Heights, VA 23834 immediately following the graveside service.

She also loved spending her time at the beach or river. Sherri was such a loving person and will be missed immensely.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bobby Gordon; her children, Jason Thompson (Jasmine), and Kimbre Snead (Scott); grandchildren, Manning, Claire, Aria, and Stark Thompson, and A.J. Pritchett; siblings, Kenneth “Dusty” Archer and Debra Archer; mother-in-law, Rose Gordon; nieces and nephews, Angela, Larry, Amber, Aaron, Destiny, Desaray, Zackary, Candice Milliman, and Crystal Puckett; and a host of other extended family members and friends.

Obituary Preview: Brigitte Margarete Puskeppeleit King, 78, of Colonial Heights, passed away peacefully, Sunday,  April 3,2022 at MCV VCU Hospital in Richmond. Born in Berlin Germany, she was the daughter of the late Marianne Puskeppeleit and wife of the late Arthur L. King. A U.S. Army wife she spent most of their service career at Fort Lee and working numerous managerial jobs around the surrounding communities. Brigitte was an avid bowler and had a deep seeded passion for the game, running many leagues on Fort Lee and surrounding cities. She is survived by her three sons, Robert L. King and wife Tricia of Brigham City, Utah. Richard L. King and wife Robin of Eden, Utah, and Randy L. King of Colonial Heights, Virginia; siter-in-laws, Peggy King of Cheyne, Wyoming and Nancy Davis of North Salt Lake, Utah. She has ten grandchildren, Michael, Robert Jr., Kyle, Shantel, Whitney, Cory, Jake, Cassie, Victoria, Diana; fourteen great grandchildren; and lots of great nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her late husband Arthur King, in-laws, Emmet and Helen King, son, Michael, and numerous other relatives. Lloyd “Brickhead” Goddard III - October 28, 1954 - April 02, 2022

Obituary Preview: After decades of public service, Lloyd Goddard, III, was called home on April 2, 2022, at the age of 67. Lloyd, known as “brickhead” to some, dedicated his life to the safety and well-being of the residents of Colonial Heights through his work. He was generous with his time and energy, and he touched countless lives all throughout the tri-cities region and beyond. Lloyd was a lifelong resident of Colonial Heights who joined the Colonial Heights Volunteer Fire Department on November 21, 1972. Lloyd was given his Life Membership with the department in November 1997. Besides being active with the department, he served as the District 9 representative in the Virginia Firefighter’s Association for 6 years; secretary of the Southside Virginia Volunteer Firefighter’s Association for 5 years, and was also a member of the Petersburg Fire Rehab Unit-Support 6. He also served on the Colonial Heights Police Department for several years as well as several local clubs and organizations. Lloyd also served as a school bus driver for the Colonial Heights Public School System where he was responsible for safely and tirelessly transporting the most precious cargo of all on a daily basis. Lloyd Goddard III, was preceded in death by his brother, John D. Goddard, Sr., and is survived by his brother, Louis Mark Goddard (wife Debra and daughters Lisa, Whitney, and Emily), sister-in-law, Evelyn Goddard, nephew JD Goddard, niece Kristi Oxenham, half-sister Paula Miller, and life-long family friend, confidant, and caretaker Susan Moneymaker and her family, (Stacey, Scott, Shawn, Teagan, Hannah, and Jacob).  A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022 in Blandford Cemetery 319 S. Obituary Preview: Sean Patrick Higgins, 67, of Colonial Heights passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022, after a four-year battle with cancer.
He was an avid adventurer who loved the outdoors. He enjoyed skiing, fishing, and hunting. He also loved history and traveling to historical sites, particularly Civil War battlefields. After spending most of his career as a sales manager, he achieved his lifelong goal of becoming a Park Ranger. He served as a Ranger for the National Park Service at the Grand Tetons in Wyoming and on Ocracoke Island in North Carolina, and then at several sites in Richmond, Virginia including Richmond National Battlefield and the Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site, until he became ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dolores; his sister, Kathleen; and sons, Daniel and James. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children, John (Dawn), Jennifer (John), Stephanie (William), Charlie (Desarae); siblings, Michael (Eliana), Maurice, and Ann; and cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren that he adored immensely.

Obituary Preview: Charles W. Wilson, 80, passed away on April 1, 2022 at his home in Dallas, Georgia.  He was born May 14, 1941 in Danville, VA, the son of Welton (Slim) Wilson and Hazel Shumate (Leet).
After marriage to Brenda Walker (Wilson), he started work at Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company in Petersburg, VA.  Charles became a Glass Installer in VA and Georgia and continued his work as a Cobb County Employee at Lost Mountain Middle School in Georgia.  Charles was a devoted church member in Virginia and Georgia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Brenda Kay and Wanda Ann and brother James.  Surviving in addition to his wife, Brenda, are his son, Dwayne Wilson and his wife, Cheryl from North Carolina, grandson, Brandon Wilson, sister Jeanie Toth, and brother Otis Wilson.
A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 pm. on Saturday April 9, 2022 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, South Prince George, VA 23805.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. She is survived by her mother Janie B. Jones (Wayne Markland), her son Christian McLaughlin, daughter Samantha E. Edwards, brother Jeremy Jones, (Tiffanie), Grandfather John E. Wills “Papa John”,  aunt Fran Higgins (Bill), uncles Lewis F. Bowen Jr, Lonnie A. Bowen and Dennis Gilchrist, numerous cousins and nieces and nephews. Angela graduated from Hopewell High School 1993 and studied at John Tyler in Forensics. She was a long-time employee then owner of Cigarette City in Colonial Heights. She was affiliated with the Eagles of American Legion and was working as a Bartender many years at Partners II in Hopewell. Angela was one who loved blindly and unconditionally. She touched more people’s hearts than most could in a lifetime. She had a smile that would go for miles within your soul. There wasn’t anything that she couldn’t & wouldn’t do if she set her mind to it. There will not be a day that goes by where she is not in our memories.  We will all miss her immensely.  A funeral service will he held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Ken Hendricks officiating.  Interment will be private.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. She then took a job with Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation, ensuring that generations of children had fun and enriching summer camp activities before fully retiring after a few years.
She is survived by her brothers, John (Becky) of Chester, VA, Floyd, Jr. aka Buddy of Newbergh, IN; sister, Patricia (Leonard) of Poplar Bluff, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
