Lillian Edith Lees - Unknown - April 12, 2022

Departed: 04/12/2022 (Ashland)
Obituary Preview: Lillian Edith Lees 94 at Concord Hospital Franklin on April 12, 2022, following an extended period of declining health. She was born in Whitefield on March 25, 1928, the daughter of Everett and Ruth [Blodgett] Hanks. Lillian was the youngest of 7 children. Lillian grew up on a farm and she often shared stories about summers past. One of her favorite stories to tell was when her father would bring the corn up from the fields and give the children a snack. She also had a beloved sheep dog named Rover as well as several farm animals. She loved to go sledding down the hill at her house and watched as her brother pulled her back up.
Following high school, Lillian moved to Florida where she was employed at the Breakers Hotel, she moved to California where she had her first daughter, then Southampton Long Island, NY. Where her other 4 children were born, later moving to Woodsville NH to be closer to family, then moving to Barnet, VT. And finally, has resided with her daughter Cynthia for the last 15 years. Lillian was employed as a caregiver for many years. Her favorite pastimes were bird watching and tending to her flowers. You could describe any bird or flower to her, and she would always know what kind it was. She had so many flowers and plants that people would often joke it was her jungle.
Lillian loved to spend time outside with her children playing catch. She also used to make all the kids in the neighborhood root beer floats. She was a seamstress and could fix things even when her eyesight started to go. She always told stories about all the dresses she made for school. She would share that she also had to make the lunch menu for school for one of her classes. She was a bowler and received several trophies for it. Lillian did some golfing and loved to tell the story about her son John golfing for the first time. She let her sons Wayne and John make their own pretend golf course in the backyard by sinking metal cans into the grass. Then they used their grandparents golf clubs to play golf. She would let her daughters Cindy and Mary pick a couple of flowers out of her garden. She told them only a few. But they always picked 2 mounded handfuls each. She spent a lot of time with Kathy giving her wagon rides. She also yelled at the bank for saying her daughter Cindy should wait outside with her kitten. She was a true mother! She was a good cook. Made us special stuff like Baked Alaska, burger for a bunch, homemade bread, and doughnuts. Also, her famous Sunday luncheon loaf.
Lillian loved to cook and bake she would often times convince her grandkids to stay a little longer and eat whatever dessert she had made. Then would tell them “Don’t tell your mother, she’ll think I spoiled your dinner!” She would say “I’m the grandma I am supposed to spoil you!” Or she would say “A little cookie never hurt anyone!” But her most favorite dessert was Klondike bars. She would say she was stuffed from dinner and then minutes later say she had room for dessert. She always had some sort of toy from the cereal boxes to give to the grandkids and great grandkids when they would visit. She also loved to get a happy meal from McDonalds to get the toy. She so enjoyed spoiling her grandkids. She loved having picnics and BBQs and visiting all her children for holidays and birthdays. She never forgot any of her grandchildren’s birthdays! She loved giving birthday spankings no matter how old someone was including Harry.
She loved to travel she always wanted to see the sights! She could often convince her granddaughter Alyssa to take her shopping and then want “to treat her to lunch” as she would say. She loved visiting the ocean and would tell her grandkids about the ocean in Southampton Long Island. Her most recent trip was to Florida travelling by car to see her Granddaughter Melanie get married. She kept her eyes open and didn’t nap at all. She didn’t want to miss the view! She also enjoyed petting the baby Alligator and feeding the sharks at an aquarium in Florida. She loved being a Mom and Grammy the most. She adored the family cat Henry and would give him rides on her walker. Henry would jump on the seat, and she would say “Hold on Henry I’ll give you a ride!” The cat Daisy would meow so much that Lillian would carry on conversations with her. The cat Frosty would snuggle up with Lillian and keep her feet warm. She loved all the animals, but Henry was attached to her. Up until her last moments she told stories about her family. Lillian will greatly be missed and her stories too. Her grandchildren would give anything for another story.
She is survived by her daughter Katherine Troy and husband Jerry of Bath, NH, son Wayne Lees and wife Belinda of North Haverhill, NH., daughter Cynthia Marsh and husband Harry of Bristol, NH, daughter Mary Young-Coathup and husband Robert, daughter-in-law Deborah Lees of Swiftwater, NH. Sister-in-law Lottie Hanks of Boscawen, 18 Grandchildren, 27 Great-grandchildren, and she was expecting to have her first great-great-grandchild in June. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her family, she has an extended nursing family and dietary staff of 8 months at Concord Hospital Franklin where she developed a strong bond to many staff members. She is predeceased by her son John Lees of Swiftwater NH, and grandson Andrew Troy of Bath NH.

Matthew Mark Mills - Unknown - January 21, 2022

Departed: 01/21/2022 (Ashland)
Obituary Preview: “The Thunder may not get you, but the Lightening will.”
Matthew Mills of Concord, NH, passed away, peacefully, in his sleep, January 21st, 2022.  He was 56 years old.
The devoted and loving Father, Son, Brother and DEADHEAD was born on April 8,1965 in Littleton, NH.  In his formative years, Matt lived in Thornton, NH – where he took advantage of having the magnificent White Mountains as his backyard.  He enjoyed fishing, tracking, camping, and playing sports with his brothers.
After attending Thornton Central School and Plymouth Area High School, Matt did whatever work he could that allowed him to follow the Grateful Dead while they toured the country. Matt never gave up the Dead but his “touring” days were over when his son, Joshua entered the world.  Josh was Matt’s greatest source of pride and joy.  Matt never tired of sharing stories of Josh.  One memory that Matt liked to share (a lot) was about the many times he and Josh would do “Nautical Night” at Battleship Cove – where they would sleep aboard the USS Massachusetts.  Josh may have outgrown those days but Matt never did!
Matt loved spending time with his nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Later in life, as diabetes took its toll on his health, Matt found comfort and support at the White Mountain Boogie N Blues Festival.  He had made many friends there.  It was great to watch him reunite with childhood friends and embrace the great music and feel relaxed in the supportive community that the Boogie is.
Matthew Mark Mills is survived by his son Josh Mills, Mother, Carol Haartz, Stepfather Karl Haartz, his three brothers, Thomas Mills, Timothy Mills, and Robert Mills, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Today, Matthew is grooving with Jerry.
There will be a private family service for Matt in the Spring.

After high school Jeff took a job as a mason tender where he would carry blocks, bricks and mortar for the stone masons on the jobsite. Jeff stuck with this job and under the direction of Carl Brewer (in Jeff’s opinion “the best mason ever”), also became a mason.  His beautiful artwork and gifted craft can be seen in many properties around the state.
From a young age, Jeff developed another passion….Laughter. He had dreams of becoming a stunt man and would spend hours practicing how to throw himself down a flight of stairs (a trick he used to rouse himself into embarrassing situations), intending to get another laugh.
Jeff helped raise two children, Angela Trent Pastuszak and Jeffrey Trent. Jeff had extreme pride in both Angela and Jeffrey with their accomplishments and parenting of Aubrey Pastuszak and Cool Jeffrey Trent.  Jeff was forever thankful to Jeffery's and Angela's mom, Rita Avery, for sharing their lives with him and for her stedfast friendship.
Jeff joins his brother Mike, nephew Rick, grandparents Tom and Evelyn McNamara and Donald and Rita Lott, Aunt June Cripps, and Uncles Fran McNamera and  Rene Paquette and his loving dog Willy in heaven. .Jeff is remembered lovingly by his mother Doris McNamara, his father Steve Burrows (Doreen), sisters April Hibberd, Stephanie  Burrow Erskine(George), Andrew and Erica Burrows and their children Darren, Andrea and Aven  nephews and nieces Steven Southworth, Winter Hibberd, Brittany Lemlin (Hilary), Bella Hibberd, Kaila Burrows, Carlie Burrows, Brandy, Bentley, Eleanor, and Oliver, great nephews Carter Burrows and Lincoln Southworth and great niece Letti Lemlin, and his sweet kitties Kitti and Terri will also miss him.
There were several people that influenced Jeff and it was his intention to reach out to express his gratitude for their impact on him before his time ran out. His Mom promised to do that and would like to add them to those “he” remembered. Steven Southworth, Chad Ewens, Doug Paquette, Paul Pierson, Doug Peters, Bobby Inkel, Carl Brewer, Ernie Paquette, David Lee, Dana Lott, Robyn and Bryan, Lorri, Stephanie, Matt, Steve, Bud, Brenda, Janet, Tony, Puy and Bean and all his Learning Express friends….Kim and Bruce, Bryan,  Mike, Lauren, John and Robbie, Doyle, Lou and Sharon and all the staff. He enjoyed his work there and appreciated all of you. Sharon….you gave him pride in himself and so much joy. Thank you.
Those that knew Jeff best will attest that he was an honest and generous man full of extremes. That is true about every part of him to the extents that he would go to get a laugh, to cook and provide food for a crowd, to maintain his integrity, to show his capacity to love, to his anger and most importantly his strength. At a young age we think strength is simply the ability to physically lift a heavy weight, but as we grow we learn that strength is the capacity of your heart, to endure through pain, trial and adversity because you know you are on the right path. This is how those of us that knew him well will remember him, as the strongest man we knew and the guy that loved to make us laugh.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Lakes Region VNA Hospice for their compassion, caring and respect of Jeff doing his way.
