Keith Richard Lehtinen - December 10, 1965 - March 20, 2024

Departed: 03/20/2024 (Moscow)
Obituary Preview: Danielle Lehtinen announces with sadness the passing of Keith Richard Lehtinen, aged 58, after a short illness, at his residence in Apt 1,1810 Sanderson Avenue, Scranton, Pennsylvania, on March 20th, 2024.
Keith was born in Mountain View, California, on December 10,1965, son of Jacqueline June Baker (b.1939) and Richard Wright Lehtinen (1936-1998). He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Communication Arts, Radio and Television studies from San Francisco State University in 1989. Keith had produced, worked on commercials, and DJ'ed: at KLUB-FM in Oakland, California; KSFS-TV in San Francisco, California; Sewer Trout Records; and Flowmaster DJ Crew work in Brooklyn, New York. Early work included music therapy at the Children's Center, Sony Service Center, office management at New York Real Estate Institute and UNUM in Brooklyn, NY.
Keith played guitar, sang and wrote lyrics with Jim MacLean and Hal MacLean's punk rock "Sewer Trout" band, from 1985 to 1990, performing at Gilman Street. The band released "Songs About Drinking", "Sewer Trout for President" and "Flawless".
Keith moved to Broklyn in 1992. He married Danielle Lehtinen, born Anna Daniela Międzyrzecka in Warsaw, Poland, daughter of dissident poets Julia Hartwig (1921-1917) and Artur Międzyrzecki (1922-1996), in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn in 1993. Columbia University alumnus with MA, MPhil, and all but dissertation, she worked as adjunct at Parsons School of Design, NYU, and New School. After moving to Brooklyn from Manhattan she worked at NYC Department of Education. They lived and worked in Carroll Gardens until 2014, when they retired to their Gouldsboro, PA home, and took care of her mother in Poland and in PA. Since the divorce in 2019 Keith remained supportive of Danielle's artwork ventures, collaborating to creatively frame, curate and hang artwork, and attending every art opening - the last one on March 1, 2024 at the Artworks in Scranton. Keith's Sound Design work in New York City included Public Theater's Audio Master for Shakespeare in the Park in 1998, New School University, and Actors' Studio productions.
In 1998 Keith delivered a eulogy for his father, Richard Wright Lehtinen, in California's Bay Area Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Like his father, grandson of the first ordained Finnish Congregational Clergyman in the US, and his great-uncle, Wright Lehtinen, Keith (to quote the eulogy) also "could build, tinker and repair just about anything." These talents and skills led Keith to work with high end renovations in Brooklyn, such as Cobalt Renovations in 1998, and eventually to start his own KD Construction, LLC. Keith used to say that Danielle designed, and he executed, seemingly endless upgrades to the family's Gouldsboro house, since 1999 until recent completion.
Keith loved reading, and was a frequent visitor to his local Public Library branches. He was well versed in a wide variety of music; enjoyed cars; was an avid football and hockey fan, favoring the NY Jets and the NY Mets in baseball. He knew how to handle animals. Over the years dozens of cats, as well as a parakeet, Ivan, were rescued, treated and adopted by Keith and Danielle in their Gouldsboro home on the gamelands.
Keith had in-depth knowedge of and respect for religions and nations of the world. He and Danielle traveled multiple times to Poland, to visit family, Florida for art exhibits and warm weather, and California to see family and friends.
After his passing, Keith's will was discovered, naming Danielle Lehtinen Executor of his Estate. The paintings decorating Keith's apartment over the last 3 years of his life, sadly, went back to their author. Dedicated to Keith, they are on display as "Keith's Collection" at Little Wild Refillery in Scranton, PA, through May of 2024.
Keith is survived by his widow, Danielle Lehtinen; Mother, Jacqueline Lehtinen, Brothers Mark Lehtinen and Scott Lehtinen and his Wife Diana, and sister Brooke Lehtinen Wall and her husband.
Celebration of Life Service for Keith Lehtinen will take place at Duffy and Snowdon Funeral Home at 401Church Street in Moscow, Pennsylvania 18444, 2:00 to 3:30 on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
If you wish to contribute to Keith's charity, donations can be made to the Scranton Public Library, one of Keith's mainstays.
