Valerie Cooper - September 27, 1952 - March 31, 2024

Departed: 03/31/2024 (New Smyrna Beach)
Obituary Preview: Valerie Cooper was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She left this world far too soon on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at the age of 71.
She was born to John (1923-2017) and Melvina (1924-2013) Keegan on September 27, 1952 in Staten Island, New York. Valerie spent the first half of her life lucky enough to work in the family business, The Keegan Agency, started by her father, John. This allowed her to do what she loved most in life, helping others while also having the ability to spend her work days with her beloved family.
Valerie married Andrew “Tim” Timmins (1949 - 2017) and they had their daughter Jean Marie, in 1981. The three of them moved to Florida from New York in 1994 where Valerie continued to work in the insurance industry. Though her and Tim’s relationship turned out to be less permanent than either of them expected, both went onto remarry and remained good friends.
Valerie, reconnected with the love of her life, Sherwood “Rick” Cooper, later in life and long after their first encounter when they quickly fell in love as kids in 1964. They married on May 19, 2013 and their love only grew from there.
It is impossible to describe what a wonderful and caring person Valerie was, but anyone who knew her, even if for a moment, could tell she was special in ways no one else could be. Family, friends, and strangers could feel her kindness, and often relied on her for comfort, support, and a good laugh. She was the best mother the world could offer and loved her grandchildren fiercely. Her absence will leave a void to anyone who was lucky enough to have had her in their lives. She was the glue that held her entire extended family together and she will be missed beyond measure.

James Franklin Cochran, Jr. - March 12, 1935 - January 02, 2024

Departed: 01/02/2024 (New Smyrna Beach)
Obituary Preview: James Franklin Cochran, Jr., age 88, passed away on Tuesday January 2nd, 2024 at his home in Edgewater, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Franklin Cochran, Sr and Margaret Estep, his siblings, Margaret, June, Dale and Gloria, his wife, Wilma Mae Cochran, his oldest son David Lee Cochran and his granddaughter Sarah Jane Townsend. James is survived by his son Donald Ray Cochran and daughter Patricia Diane Townsend, 10 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
James was born in West Virginia, into a nation dealing with the Great Depression, a nation that was moving towards World War II and a family that would soon have too many mouths to feed. He grew up in a family and a nation dealing with lack and learned the virtue of hard work, a virtue he carried on for the rest of his life. From the coal mines of West Virginia to the building construction of homes and sub-divisions in Florida to his work as a big equipment mechanic, he worked to the utmost of his ability and gave beyond expectations in order to do right by his employers. Even if he had never done "it" before, he never said no, he always tried, because he always tried, he accomplished much. And in that vein of accomplishing much, He met and married his wife 28 days later, a marriage that lasted just 11 days shy of their 44th wedding anniversary.
At a young age his body was broken in a mining accident in a coal mine in West Virginia when he was pinned between a wall and a full coal cart. Several years later he was paralyzed after a car accident and told he would not walk again (but he did.) After his brother came home from Vietnam, he watched heart sickened as Agent Orange exposure took his life. Over the years he endured the loss of both of his parents and all of his siblings. His heart was broken when he lost his wife to cancer and his son to heart failure. Yet through all the painful, broken, paralyzing, anguished and trying times that he lived in, he persevered, he came through them all. After turning to Jesus Christ and accepting salvation, his home was filled with little reminders that he was never alone and he could get through anything that came at him. In his office, when he passed, is a plaque that says "Lord, help me to remember that nothing is going to happen to me today that YOU and I together cannot handle."
He was a humble man and treated everyone the same. No matter what he was enduring, he reached out to help others. People looked at him and saw a man of great means but his riches were his loved ones and the family and friends he made, the people he helped and cared for and the lives he touched. Those who knew him will miss him dearly and the family only asks that those touched by his life will pay it forward and make a difference in the life of another person just as he did.
