Obituary Preview: Irma Ruth (Strickland) Gresham, 83, of North Vernon, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 7:38 p.m.
Born October 25, 1938, in North Vernon, she was the daughter of the late Cecil L. and Glenna G. (Wadsworth) Strickland. She married Maurice Richard Gresham, on April 18, 1954, at the Westport Baptist Church; he survives. The couple recently celebrated 68 years of marriage.
Irma graduated from North Vernon High School in 1956 and went on to work for Farm Bureau Coop and Regal Rugs, both in North Vernon, and as a secretary and bookkeeper for Pipe’s Supply in Adel, Georgia and Fresh Plants in Americus, Georgia before retiring in North Vernon. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in North Vernon and a homemaker after her retirement. She enjoyed playing music, including banjo, guitar, stand-up bass, and fiddle, with her husband in addition to gardening, singing, teaching Sunday School, and leading the Youth Choir at the First Baptist Church.
Irma is survived by her husband; sons, Michael “Mike” D. (Jackie) Gresham of North Vernon, Dwight R. (Jodie) Gresham of Ellaville, Georgia, and Edward “Ed” L. (Shelley) of Americus, Georgia; daughters, Kathryn “Kathy” J. (Rick) Stewart of Henryville, Darlene D. (Chris) Burnett and Maurica “Rica” R. (Greg) Askew, both of North Vernon, and Malinda “Mindy” D. (Donnie) Green of Adel, Georgia; brother, James “Jim” Strickland; grandchildren, Melissa (John) Gosney, David (Crystal) Gresham, Bobby (Joenetta) Gresham, Eric (Angie) Zellner, Denny (Mandy) Gholson, Jon (Desiree) Gholson, Maria Stewart, April Stewart, C.J. (Hayley) Burnett, Ashton Burnett, Ashley (Justin) White, Lindsey (Zack) Williams, Logan Askew, Haleigh Askew, Kayden Gresham, Kyle Gresham, Naveah Shipman, Austin Shipman, C.J. Zipperer, Lauren Youngblood, and Matthew Deblase; 29 great grandchildren; and sixteen great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lewis C. Strickland and Floyd E. Strickland; sister, Nettie E. Noel; daughter in-law, Judith Kay Gholson Gresham; and granddaughter, Jessi Nicole Green.
A funeral service for Irma will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
Memorial donations may be made in honor of Irma through the funeral home to the North Vernon First Baptist Church.

Born June 17, 1923, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie (Tebby) May. She married Earl Yates on January 15, 1944, in North Vernon; he preceded her in death on July 5, 1990.
Geraldine was a 1941 graduate of North Vernon High School, worked as a telephone operator from 1941 to 1949, and she retired in 1982 from Hook’s Drug Store. She was an AVON Consultant for six years, drove a school bus for eight years and was an administrator for American Medal for three years. Geraldine was a member of the North Vernon Wesleyan Church and enjoyed crocheting, cooking, reading, working puzzles and camping.
Survivors include her sons, Earl Raymond (Becky) Yates of Indianapolis and Larry (Andrea Slone) Yates of Cincinnati, Ohio; her daughters, Mary Beth Yates of North Vernon, and Linda (Jay) Parks of Fort Thomas, Kentucky; grandchildren, Brian (Charity) Parks and Carrie (Adam) Biales, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, and David (Sandra) Parks of Lexington, Massachusetts; and great-grandchildren, Zanna, Finn, Dominic, Madeleine, Brendan, and Brady.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clyde and Roy May; and sisters, Kathryn Lawson and Margaret Mueller.
A funeral service for Geraldine will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Pastor Glenn D. Black officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Born March 28, 1938, in Jefferson County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Orville Preston and Dorotha Elizabeth (Roberts) Bradshaw.
Anna attended Vernon High School, and later returned to high school to receive her diploma in 1975 from Jennings County High School. She retired as an attendant in March of 2000 from the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville after 33 years. Anna was a member of Trinity Full Gospel Church. She enjoyed crocheting, watching TV, attending church, participating in card ministry through the church, baking cakes, and going out to eat at Red Lobster.
Survivors include her sons, Patrick A. (Diane) Sedam of Evans, Georgia and Scott (Maryann) Sedam of Seymour; her daughters, Cheri (Mike) Pike of North Vernon and Robin (James) Upchurch of Versailles; grandchildren, Kody (Dee) Sedam of Acworth, Georgia, Ryan (Ashley) Sedam of Evans, Georgia, Brittany (Donnie) Bryant of Butlerville, Clinton (Tiffany) Lunsford of North Vernon, Taylor (Marcus) Browning of Frankfort, Kentucky, Jessica (Charly) Conrad of Reddington, Jeremy (Amber) Marshall of Hayden, Mica (David Young) McKing of Greenville, Ohio, Becca (CJ) Reynolds of Scottsburg and Brittany Pike of Madison; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; cousin, Billie Roberts of Madison; and several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from the Bradshaw and Sedam sides.

June was born on August 2nd, 1959, in San Antonio Texas the daughter of Bob and Jean Fletcher. She married Will Short on September 11th, 1999, in North Vernon Indiana. He survives.
A 1977 graduate of Jennings County High School June was a 23-year employee of the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center. Upon moving to Florida, she earned her degree in horticulture and was employed by Hernando County for 10 years. She was a member of Western Baptist Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 8681. June enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, decorating, sitting on the dock and feeding the pelicans. She loved spending time with her family, friends, her children, and her grandchildren. Reading the Bible and her daily devotional.
Surviving with her husband Will are seven children Corey Short, Stephanie (John) House, April (Tom) Besse, Jeremy (Jenny) Fletcher, Carrie Short, CJ Nolan, and Kristen (Noah)Doyle;  17 grandchildren Autumn Short, Alex Short, Bailey House, Braden House, Ethan Besse, Macy Jo Marie (Cole) Beaver, Sierra Fletcher, Lily-Ann Beadencup, Dakotta Fletcher, Gaige Fletcher, Trey Reynolds, Meridian Reynolds, Sadie Reynolds, Madie Reynolds, Adrian McMurtey Carmen McMurtey, and Summer Lexi Doyle; siblings, John (Angie) Fletcher, Susan (Carl) Maxwell, Janece (Mark) Fletcher Reede, and Kathy Fletcher DeFord; and several nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Bob and Jean Fletcher.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday April 28th, 2022, at the Indiana Veteran's Memorial Cemetery chapel. Burial will be at Indiana's Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include her sons, Dylan (Tamar Helton) Banister of North Vernon and Payne Bannister of St. Louis, Missouri; her mother, Peggy Sutherland of North Vernon; sisters, Brenda Lockwood, Linda Banister, and Mary (Jay) Elliott, all of North Vernon; and grandchildren, Dylan Banister and Harmony Banister, both of North Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Banister; stepfather, James Sutherland; and brother, Billy Joe Banister.

Christopher was born on March 25, 1974, in Madison, he was the son of Gale (Norris) Barnett and the late Lonny Lee Kincaid Sr.  He married Rebecca Marksberry on September 1, 2007; she survives.
Christopher was a 1992 graduate of Jennings County High School and received his bachelor’s degree. He served in the US Army for 13 years and the Army National Guard for eight years. He worked as a shop Forman for Baylor Trucking in Milan. Christopher was a member of the Butlerville Masonic Lodge #219 and a member of Lost Berserker’s Motorcycle Group. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, spending time with his friends, and he loved spending time with his family.
Surviving with his wife, Rebecca Kincaid, are his sons, Chestin Kincaid of North Vernon, Jon (Brittany) Kincaid of Holton, and Derek (Taylor) Marksberry of California; daughters, Hudson (Dalton) Day, Patricia (Matt) Greene, and Savannah Barrett, all of North Vernon, and Abigayle (Dwayne) Chasteen and Alizabeth Kincaid, both of Hayden; mother, Gale Barnett of North Vernon; brothers, Lonny Kincaid Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio and Brant (Melissa) Kincaid of Alberta, Canada; sister, Tonya (Mike) Anderson of North Vernon; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and son, Lance “Lancer” Lanier Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Carol Brashear; children, Brayden, Brooklyne, and Braxton Brashear and Payton Perry; stepdaughter, Bailey Ritz; brothers, Jerry Wayne (Jordynn) Brashear Jr. and Codi Brashear; sister, Ashley (A.J.) Spicer; nephews, Peyton Hall and Kyler Brashear; and grandparents, Jesse and Raymond Zaphe.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Wayne Brashear Sr and grandparents, Betty and Edward Brashear and Ralph Starkey.
A funeral service for Travis will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation for family and friends will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.

Clay Burton - August 17, 1946 - April 04, 2022

Born August 17, 1946, in Franklin, Ohio, he was the son of Woodrow Burton Sr. and Ada (Riley) Burton. He marred Nancy Briscoe on July 3, 1967, in North Vernon; she survives.
Clay worked as a truck driver and clerk for Jennings County Highway Department for 18 years before retiring in 2010 and had previously worked as an inspector for Arvin’s Industries in North Vernon for 25 years. He served in the in the U.S. Army from 1965 until 1967 in the 25th Infantry in Vietnam-Cu-Chi, where he received a Bronze Star and a Combat Infantry Badge. He went in as a PFC (E3) and was promoted to the rank of E4 and E5. He was a member of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church in North Vernon and the American Legion in Indianapolis. Clay enjoyed riding his motorcycle, gardening and yardwork.
Surviving with his wife, Nancy, is his son, Marty A. Burton of North Vernon; his daughters, Angela Burton (James) Vance of North Vernon and Rachel Burton of Carmel; sister, Shirley (Vaughn) Branson of Versailles; grandchildren, Derik (Tasha) Vance, Dustin (Kennedy) Vance, Kayla Burton, and Kyle Burton, all of North Vernon, Caroline Burton of Petersburg, Kentucky, Joshua Brinkman and Reagan Brinkman, both of Carmel; and five great-grandchildren.

Ann was a 1965 graduate of Lakeland High School in LaGrange, Indiana and worked as a rug trimmer for the former Regal Rugs in North Vernon; after Regal Rugs she went to work for Greensburg Parks and Recreation for three years. Survivors include her son, David (Becki) Colwell of Madison; her daughter, Geneva (Joe) Couch of North Vernon; brother, Francis “Chris” (Catherine) Cretsinger of Waterloo; sisters, Mary (Jeff) Bower of Columbia City and Trisha Phelps of Wellington, Arizona; grandchildren, Dariyn (Gabe Arnold) Colwell, Cole (Jessica) Young, Joshua Combest and Amber (Caleb) Barton, all of North Vernon, Madisyn (Bret) Robbins and Lucas Colwell, both of Commiskey, Kirsten (Jason) Lynch of Austin, Arkansas and Shalyn (Jared) Burton of Paris Crossing; seventeen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Lewis Cretsinger; and great-grandchildren, Denten and Denlee Hardebeck.

He was a member of the Sheriff’s Posse and a former member of Eagles Post #4097 in North Vernon and North Vernon Moose Lodge. James loved horses and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his sons, Jeffery (Teresa) Dickerson of Leavenworth, Kansas and James (Christine) Chaney of Nashville, Tennessee; his daughters, Lisa (Charles) Duke of Edinburgh, and Jamie (Nathan) Rittman of Freetown; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brothers, Ray Taylor and Charles Chaney.
A closing prayer will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, from 5:00 p.m. until time of the closing prayer.

Bud was a 1956 graduate of Southport High School and served in the U. S. Army from 1956-1959.  He worked as a Chemical Manufacturing Supervisor for Eli Lilly in Tippecanoe Laboratories from 1964-1993 before retiring. Bud moved to Paris Crossing in 2003 and became a member of United Christian Church in Paris Crossing where he enjoyed the fellowship of his church family, choir and church activities. He was a member of the American Legion. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, bowling, anything outdoors related, playing cards and cruising, as well as spending time with his family.
Surviving with his wife, Jean, are his children, Paula (Morton) Imamura, Robert “Bobby” (Shannon) Wilson, and Carol Hill; grandchildren, Christina (Richard) Watt, John (Jessica) Black, Michael Black, Eric (Maria) Imamura, Trystin Wilson, Brandon Wilson, and Logan Hill; great-grandchildren, Trey, Heaven, Sybil, Isaac, Carolyn, Rachel, Angel, Angelina, Damien, Dinah, Raiden, and Nixen; and siblings, Mary Alice Wilson, Anna Fiest, and Robert Lee (Sharon) Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol Joan Singleton, and brothers in-law Leo Singleton and David Fiest.
A funeral service for Bud will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at the United Christian Church in Paris Crossing, with the Pastor Damon Marling officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Military rites will be given by members of Matt Hester Post #2021 V. F. W. at the church. Surviving with his wife, Patricia, are his sons, John Andrew (Missie) Westerman of Florida and Eric Lee (Lori) Westerman of Evansville; daughters, Sonya (Michael Crowder) Neff , Stacy (Terry) Roark, Amber (Joshua) Jones and Tiffany Lynn Westerman, all of North Vernon and Shelly Dierkes of Madison; brothers, William “Bill” Lewis of Star City and Gilbert (Diana) Westerman of Muncie; sisters, Rita Craig of North Vernon and Dodie Hanson of Florida; twenty two grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jason T. Westerman and brother, Carl Westerman.

Raymond was a member of Brown’s Corner Chapel in Scipio and was one of the original members of the Rescue 20 Squad. He enjoyed camping, traveling, family time, gardening and watching his grandchildren in their activities.
Survivors include his daughters, Candy (Tom) Feiles of Scipio, Rachel (Jim) Allen of Lafayette, and Kathryn (Dan) Schreiber of Fort Wayne; and grandchildren, Drew Feiles of North Vernon, Heather Feiles of Scipio, Gabriel Allen, Victoria Allen, Brianna Allen, and Nathaniel Allen, all of Lafayette, Amelia Schreiber, and Buddy Schreiber, both of Fort Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; daughter, Annie Rouse; grandson, Kyle Feiles; and brother, Fred Rouse.

Adams of Dupont; sisters, Ruth Holley and Bettie Wright, both of Commiskey; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
