Ruth Ardith Mauffray - June 29, 1936 - December 11, 2023

Departed: 12/11/2023 (Maryville)
Obituary Preview: Brothers and Sisters in Christ, we are gathered here in spirit to celebrate the homegoing of a true servant of the Lord, Ruth ArdithEbanksMauffray, who was called to her eternal rest on the 11th of December, 2023. Born on the 25th of June, 1936 (although for some mystery the U.S. government has always said the 29th of June), in the lush landscapes of Roatan, Honduras, Ruth was a beacon of light to all who knew her, living a life that echoed the words of scripture, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
Ruth, a cherished soul known affectionately by her given name, was a testament to the enduring spirit of love and grace. She departed from this world in the serene surroundings of Gig Harbor, Washington, after a brief battle with acute cholecystitis. Her departure has left a void in the hearts of many, but we take solace in knowing that she is now resting in the loving arms of our Savior.
Ruth's life was a melody of faith and devotion, a song that began at her home church in Roatan and continued in the halls of Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, where she immersed herself in the study of music. Her passion for melody and harmony transcended the walls of the college, leading her to touch the lives of countless students as a dedicated piano teacher. Ruth also served her community with compassion as a Physical Therapy Assistant and a Cardiac Rehabilitation Assistant, bringing healing and comfort to those in need.
In her earthly journey, Ruth cultivated a garden of love, not just through her rose gardening but also as a seamstress and a baker, crafting beauty and sweetness in every aspect of her life. She poured herself into her work, her family, and her community, embodying the virtues of a faith-filled, courageous, and thoughtful woman.  Ruth was a woman ahead of her time, venturing from her family home in Honduras, studying abroad in the U.S., and seeking employment as a young graduate in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Ruth believed a woman could do and be anything she put her mind to; that is what she taught her daughters.
Ruth's legacy is carried forward by her loving daughters, Lisa Mauffray Evans and Michelle Mauffray Wilhoite, wife of Doyle Wilhoite; her adored sister Fern Ebanks Hernandez, wife of Arturo Hernandez; her steadfast brother, Burke Ebanks; and her cherished grandchildren, Louis Evans and his partner Maggie Tolle, and Katherine EvansBolander, wife of Taylor Bolander. Each of them a petal in the blooming rose of her life, nurtured by her love, her wisdom, and her faith. Ruth will be interned next to her cherished son David Mauffray at Clark’s Grove Cemetery. In the tapestry of her life, Ruth wove threads of kindness and service, reflecting the light of Christ in every pattern. Her life was a living sermon, preaching without words the essence of a Godly woman. As the Good Book says, "She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." (Proverbs 31:26)
As we bid farewell to Ruth, let us remember her not with sorrow, but with the joy that comes from knowing she lived a life well-lived. In the words of the great evangelist Billy Graham, "My home is in Heaven. I'm just traveling through this world." Ruth, too, was just passing through, and now she has reached her eternal home, where the choir of angels surely welcomes her with open arms.
Let us take comfort in the knowledge that Ruth Ardith Ebanks Mauffray, a virtuous woman of God, now sings with the heavenly host. Her life's symphony may have come to a rest here on earth, but in Heaven, it plays on, an eternal anthem of love and devotion.
May we honor her memory by living as she did, with hearts full of faith, courage, and thoughtfulness. And may the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus as we celebrate the life and legacy of our beloved Ruth. Amen.

Daniel North Gainer - April 05, 1956 - November 08, 2023

Departed: 11/08/2023 (Maryville)
Obituary Preview: After successfully avoiding the inevitable, Daniel N. “Boone” Gainer discovered the proverbial “end of the trail” and ambled off into his heavenly home on November 8th, 2023. Left behind on his trail of life are his loving wife of 39 years, Nora Garrigan Gainer; three children Jesse (Jessica) of Huntsville, AL; Jackson (Ryan) of Knoxville, TN; and Alex (Tam) of Walnut Creek, CA; and four exceptionally bright and beautiful grandchildren (McKenzie, Gavin. McKenna, and Ashlyn); along with his sister-in-law, Judy Gainer of Draper, UT, and his brother Willis “Mont” (Cathy) Gainer of Albuquerque, NM and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces in WV, NV, TX, UT, and KY. Preceding him on his trail of destiny were his parents, Willis “Jerry” and Edna “Ruth” Gainer and brother Randy.
A somewhat disoriented stork dropped brother Dan into the loving arms of his parents on April 5, 1956 in Barboursville, WV. What followed was a journey that carried him thru several locations and trails in WV, UT, LA, TX, and TN. His adventurous life began with exploring woods and trails in Pendleton and Calhoun counties in WV. To the discouragement of his parents, he followed in the footsteps of his favorite brother and took up playing tuba in the high school band which propelled him into playing with the Pride of West Virginia Mountaineer Marching Band. Can you imagine two sons practicing tuba in their home? After abandoning his life-long ambition to be a traveling professional tuba player, Dan settled on a rock-solid profession in the geological sciences. Degree in hand, sans tuba, Dan pursued a successful career in hazard waste remediation on many sites across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
Often to the dismay of many of his friends and coworkers, Dan was recognized for his perpetual upbeat and positive attitude. When Dan wasn’t pursuing his favorite pastime of weekend napping, he enjoyed ham radio operations, hiking, gardening, fishing and hunting.
