Obituary Preview: Harry Sanford Ferrell, Jr., 47, of Gypsy, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022, at United Hospital Center.  He was born July 2, 1974 in Farmington, MI to the late Harry Sanford Ferrell, Sr. and Bonnie Loucinda (Dean) Ferrell.
Harry is survived by two daughters:  Amy Morrison and significant other, Donald Cottingham, of Clarksburg and Nicole Morrison of Grafton; one son, Bryan Morrison and fiancé, William Soles; one brother, Gary Ferrell of Lumberport; four sisters:  Tammy Rohrbough and husband Jerry of Weston, Cindy Hughes and husband David of Clarksburg, Pamela Ramsey and husband George, III of Clarksburg, and Shelby Powers and husband Larry of Clarksburg; Nick and Justin Polings and Zach and Meranda Rohrbough, as well as many more nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his significant other, Lisa Morrison.
In keeping with Harry’s wishes, he will be cremated.

Robert Douglas Waddell - July 24, 1970 - April 15, 2022

Obituary Preview: On Friday, April 15, 2022, Robert Douglas Waddell of Shinnston passed away unexpectedly.  He was the son of the late Melton and Joan Waddell.  He was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 24, 1970.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Karen Waddell; four sons:  Randy Johnson and wife Jenny of Shinnston, Samuel Massey and wife Davina of Idamay, Jeremy Massey and wife Claire of Shinnston and Justin Massey and fiancé Brittany Doc of Shinnston; one daughter, Jennifer Massey and fiancé Hunter Queen of Fairmont; 18 grandchildren:  Raymond and wife Sheyenne, Elijah, Sarah, Lillie and Ezra Johnson, Hailey Ball, Angel, Lydia, Anna Joy, Jayden, Rowan, Dawson and Ana Mariah Massey, Collin Golden, Hunter and Kyle Wasilewski and Bentley Dansereau; sister in law, Linda Lanham and husband Timmy of Shinnston; two brothers:  John Waddell and wife Donna and David Waddell and fiancé Laurie Crouch both of Gilmer County; one sister, Alycia Waddell of Virginia; brother in law, Eddie Wolfe of Gilmer County as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Brent Waddell; brother in law, Fred Sandy; sister in law, Barbara Cook and his mother and father in law, Ellis and Bernadette Sandy. Robert loved spending time with family and his best friend, Frank Rutherford, his cat “Daisy” and his dog “Gambit.”
Family and friends will be received at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike St, Shinnston on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 3:00pm until 7:00pm, time of service, with Pastor Samuel Massey officiating.

Obituary Preview: Earnest Lyvaughn Pennington, 94, of Hepzibah, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022 at his residence.  He was born on January 1, 1928 in Viropa to the late Alvie Lestor Pennington and Pearl Ryan Pennington.
Earnest retired from the United States Air Force, obtaining the rank of Master Sargent.  He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.  He had also worked for United Hospital Center.  He enjoyed fishing and watching wrestling.
He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Wanda June (Carr) Pennington; one daughter, Donna Revill of Hepzibah; three sons:  Larry Pennington and wife Mary of Florida, Richard Pennington and wife Elizabeth of California and Thomas R. Pennington and wife Wendy of Pennsylvania; one sister, Carolyn Sue Carr and husband David of Clarksburg; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Charles Denver “Denny” McNemear; two brothers:  Lawrence Pennington and Elden Ray Pennington; three sisters:  Edith Burnett, Ina Grace Pennington and Owena “Penny” Shreves and two infant sisters.
A special thanks of appreciation to Dana Stewart, WVU hospice nurse.
Friends and family will be received at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike St., Shinnston on Monday, April 18, 2022 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm.  Service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 11:00am with Pastor Todd Jarman and Pastor Gary Carr officiating.  Interment to follow at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.

Obituary Preview: Shirley Jean Chrislip, 44, of Enterprise, passed away at her residence on Thursday, April 14, 2022.  She was born in Fairmont on January 3, 1978, daughter of the late Lonnie Ray Chrislip and Carolyn Jean Hamrick Chrislip.
Shirley previously worked for Genesis as a CNA as well as being a stay at home mother for the past few years.  She enjoyed spending time with her children, thrifting, crafting and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Makenna Chrislip of Enterprise; son, Larry “Trey” Tichenor, III and fiancée Jasmine Flowers of Enterprise; two sisters:  Rhonda Lynn Chrislip of Clarksburg and Melissa Dawn McIntyre of Shinnston; one brother, Lonnie R. “Butch” Chrislip and wife Vicki of Idamay; as well as many more nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jamie Todd Chrislip and one niece, Tara Toll.
Her daughter, Kenna, enjoyed dancing and singing in the car with her Mom.  Especially “Jesus Take the Wheel.”  Going shopping together all of the time, going to and having friends over for cookouts and nights at home just watching movies. Special notes from her children:
Momma, our bond was like no other.  I will never forget all the fun times we had or how special I was to you.  I miss you so much.  I’ll always be your baby. I love you Mommy ~~Sissy
Mama, you don’t know how thankful I was to have you.  We may have fought or misunderstood each other, but I will never replace you. ~~Bub

Theodore "Ted" Lee Moore - Unknown - April 13, 2022

Obituary Preview: Theodore Lee “Ted” Moore, 74, of Shinnston, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at United Hospital Center due to complications from lung surgery in October 2021.  He was born in 1947 in Fairmont to the late Theodore Lee Moore and Celia Mae Weatherholt Moore.
He was a former employee of Ingersol Rand, Clarksburg, for 12 years and retired from Allegheny Energy with 27 years of service in July 2009.  He graduated from Salem College with a BA degree in July 1975.
Ted was a member of the following organizations:  Past Master of St. John’s Lodge A.F. & A A.M. #24, member since 1976; member of The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry since 1977, he was 33 degree; Nemesis Shriners; Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of WV, Adoniran no. 11; Clarksburg Commandry no. 13 Knights Templar, Past Patron of Queen Esther chapter no. 11 Order of the Eastern Star; member of Green Hills Country Club since 1976, with a career eight holes in one; he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shinnston.
Ted is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rebecca “Becky” Nuzum Moore of Shinnston; son, Theodore “Trey” L. Moore III and very special companion, Kimberly Cochran of Shinnston; brother, Michael R. Senchina of Shinnston; sister in law, Judy Byrne and husband Barry of Sebring, FL; godsons; Spencer and Preston Willett of Midlothian, VA; niece, Misty Faircloth of Enterprise and two nephews, Chris and Kevin Byrne of NC.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, William Edward Moore; step father, Michael R. Senchina and his mother and father in law; Ernest “Red” and Glenna Nuzum.
Ted and Becky loved being “snow birds”, spending seven months in Lakeland, FL every year since retiring.
Friends and family will be received at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike St., Shinnston, on Saturday, April 16, 2022 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm and on Sunday, April 17, 2022 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm.  Service will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 11:00am with Pastor Chris Byrne and Pastor Kevin Nuzum, officiating.  Interment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery with graveside services being conducted by St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 24 A.F. & A.M.

Warren Douglas Loar - August 05, 1951 - April 13, 2022

Obituary Preview: Warren Douglas Loar, 70, of Haywood, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at his residence.  He was born in Clarksburg on August 5, 1951 to the late Warren Glenn Loar and Annabel Ruth (Boring) Loar.
Warren served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam.  He worked at Anchor Hocking for 18 years, until their closure.  He went on to work in the trucking industry for over twenty years.  Warren was a terminal manager for Tri-State Express and a dispatcher for W.S. Thomas Trucking of Fairmont.  He spent retirement volunteering at the Lord’s Pantry in Shinnston, gardening, canning and traveling with friends and family.  Warren made multiple trips to Yellowstone National Park, South Dakota, Wyoming and Alaska.  He and Mary celebrated their 49th and 50th wedding anniversaries in Las Vegas.
Left to cherish fond memories include his wife of over 50 years, Mary Elizabeth (Champ) Loar of Haywood; his son, Douglas Loar and wife Michelle of Haywood; sister, Pamela Marlene Douglas of Sardis; granddaughter, Hannah Loar and two grandsons:  Hunter and Aidan Napier; niece, Valerie Clausson and husband Dave of Clarksburg.
In addition to his parents, Warren is preceded in death by one brother, Charles Edward Loar.
In keeping with his wishes, Warren will be cremated.
A memorial service and dinner will be held for family and friends at 5:00pm at the American Legion in Shinnston, April 23, 2022.  Pastor Tom Edgell will be officiating the service.  All those that cared for Warren and his family are welcome to attend.
Interment will be held a later date at West Virginia National Cemetery.

Brenda Lou Bell - March 24, 1961 - March 30, 2022

Obituary Preview: Brenda Lou Bell, 61, of Shinnston, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 30, 2022 at her residence.  She was born in Parkersburg on March 24, 1961 in Parkersburg, daughter of Patricia Carol (Mackey) Bell, of Shinnston and the late Jennings Paul Bell.
Brenda attended schools in South Parkersburg.  She worked at several nursing homes around Parkersburg, but worked the longest at Worthington Manor Care Center in Parkersburg.  After her father passed in 1993, she moved in with her mother.  She worked at Best Western Hotel for several years until being diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer.  She took chemotherapy for over four years.
In addition to her father, Brenda is preceded in death by two brothers:  Paul Martin Bell and Brian Lee Bell and her companion, Ed Hastings.
Brenda is also survived by one daughter, Heather Dawn Hastings of Shinnston; one granddaughter, Kristen Lee Bowers and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, April 3, 2022 from 2:00pm – 8:00pm at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike St., Shinnston.  Service will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 11:00am with Pastor Tim Sandy officiating. Interment will follow at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Barbara Mace, 79, of Clarksburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at United Hospital Center.  She was born in Morgantown on August 1, 1942 to the late Herman Henry and Ethel (Hayhurst) Mahaffey.
Barbara worked as a bookkeeper for Country Club Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.  She loved her cats, enjoyed reading, crocheting and sewing.  She was on a bowling league and loved to garden.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Mace.
Barbara is survived by her nephew, Jay Barker of Clarksburg.
In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, she will be cremated with no services. My Final Gift It is now time for me to move on
Into the dusk, but also the dawn. I will remain as the morning comes
As I’ve left behind a gift for someone.
So another may walk, may talk, may see.

Douglas was employed as a cook at IHOP and had worked numerous other jobs prior.  He enjoyed camping, fishing and watching television.
In addition to his parents, Douglas is preceded in death by one brother, Chester Tresize and one sister, Sylvania Virginia Tresize.
Douglas is survived by one son:  Carmine Tresize of Anmoore; two daughters:  Alyssa Barr and McKenzie Barr, both of Lumberport; two brothers:  Lester Tresize, Jr. and Harry Tresize and wife Heather, all of Haywood; and Brad Barker, whom he considered as a brother.

Robert was employed as a safety manager for Asplundh and JAFLO.  He proudly served in the United States Navy.
Katt never met a stranger and was well loved by many.
In addition to his parents, Robert is also preceded in death by one brother, Charles Gene Rush, Jr. and three nephews:  Brent Carpenter, John Lawrence Marra, Jr., and Jack R. Antill.
Robert is survived by one daughter, Kassandra “Kassy” Rush and fiancé Austin Richards of Fairmont; one stepson, Shawn Keener, Sr. and wife Miss Heather of Cocoa, FL; one brother, David Rush of Fairmont; two sisters:  Barbara Carpenter of Monongah and Nancy Antill and husband Jack of OH; two grandsons:  Jordan Wayne and wife Krishna Bura of Austin, TX and Shawn Keener, Jr. of Cocoa, FL; one granddaughter, Brianna Johnson and husband Bryant of Mantua, OH; one great grandson, Cayson Johnson; three nieces:  Frankie Wilson of Fairmont, Jessica Antill Sower of OH, and Katy Rush of CA; three nephews:  Casey Carpenter and Robert Marra both of Fairmont and Robert Allen Rush of CA; three great nieces, Abigail Carpenter of Fairmont, Ella Llesis and Drew Antill Leasure of OH; two great nephews: Brent Andrew Carpenter of Fairmont and Owen Grant Marra of Fairmont; one sister in law, Denise Patterson of Ventura, CA; as well as several other nieces and nephews.  Also surviving Katt is Shirley Keener, his significant other, of Fairmont.

Obituary Preview: Harold David Dwane Mayfield, Jr., 32, of Gypsy, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at his residence.  DJ was born on August 11, 1989 in Lenoir, NC to the late Harold David Dwane, Sr. and Karen Mary (Joyce) Mayfield.
DJ was a carpenter by trade.  He went to Lincoln High School.  He loved his family and had the biggest heart.  He was an avid hunter and loved fishing and being in nature.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his Charles “Uncle Bud” Crayton; two aunts:  Sheila Crayton-Church of Lenoir, NC and Donna Francine Crayton of Hepzibah, and grandmother, Mary Mobley Mayfield of Gypsy.
DJ is survived by his grandparents, Cactus Dwane Mayfield of Gypsy and Donna Warila of Lenoir, NC; two sisters, Amanda Mayfield of Lenoir, NC and Sarah Bowser of Leominster, MA; one brother, Roger Lee Mayfield of Lenoir, NC; three nieces:  Emma Mayfield and Fiona Mayfield-Greene and Lilly Curley; one nephew, David Mayfield of Lenoir, NC and many other family members.  Also, he leaves behind his beloved dog “Choppers,” who was always by his side.
In keeping with DJs wishes, he will be cremated.  A family & friends gathering will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 3:30pm at the Hepzibah Cemetery.  Friends and family are all welcome to share in memories.

Jack enjoyed playing video games and spending time with his grandson.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Crislin Blair of Four States; brothers:  Mike Blair of Buckhannon, Russel Blair of Clarksburg, Ricky Blair of Bridgeport, J.R. Blair and fiancé Allison of Buckhannon, and Lee Blair of Clarksburg; sisters:  Nancy Gillespie and husband Bill of Salem, Nell White and husband Roger of Clarksburg, Martha Buller and companion William of Clarksburg, Janet Gillespie and companion Joe of Anmoore, and Laura Zickefoose of Anmoore; grandson, Mason Blair of Four States and his companion, Crystal Jones of Four States, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by two brothers:  Freddie Blair and Johnnie Blair, and one sister, Sarah Blair.
In keeping with Jack’s wishes, he will be cremated.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022 at The Remnant of Hope Worship Center, 1138 Morgantown Ave., Fairmont at 11:00am with Reverend Douglas Wyatt officiating.

Charlotte was a homemaker. She loved to travel with her sister Patty, crochet, quilt and watch soap operas.
Charlotte is survived by one daughter, Mary Sue Riffle of Shinnston, two sons:  Paul Bernard Snyder of Shinnston, and Troy Lee Snyder and wife Pam of Shinnston; four grandsons:  Shane Snyder and wife Amanda of Deltona, FL, Greg Snyder, Sr. and companion Jenna of Shinnston, Paul Snyder, Jr. and companion Missy of Shinnston, and James Riffle and wife Ashley of Lumberport; three granddaughters:  Erica Correro and companion Jeff of Mannington, Paula Guerrero and husband Claudio of La Feria, TX and April Long of Wadena, MN; 27 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren; two sisters in law:  Patty Jones of Warren, OH and Patricia Snyder of Mt. Rainer, MD and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Everett is preceded in death by his wife, Delores (Jackson) Drainer.  They married on February 10, 1968.  Also, one son, Joseph Drainer; two brothers:  Bo and Dave Drainer, and two sisters:  Leona Deems and Dorothy Drainer.
Everett is survived one daughter, Tina Merritt and husband Ronnie of Shinnston; daughter in law, Charlotte Drainer and fiancé Jeff Fornash of Salem; three grandsons:  Matthew Drainer and wife Kassie of Wallace, Tyler Drainer and wife Tori of Lumberport and Dustin Merritt and wife Bridget of Saltwell; two granddaughters:  Kayla O’Dell and husband Carter of Shinnston and Kaitlynn Drainer of Lumberport; one great granddaughter, Matty Drainer; two great grandsons:  Colton Drainer and Luke Merritt and one on the way; several nieces and nephews and companion, Judy Wilfong of Jane Lew.
Everett worked for Union Carbide and retired with 30 years’ service.  He enjoyed dirt track racing, riding his Harley, and loved spending time with family, friends and grandkids.  He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Orioles, Fraternal Order of Eagles of Clarksburg and Loyal Order of Moose of Shinnston, Lodge 929.

Obituary Preview: Harry Eugene Cleek, 67, of Shinnston, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at his residence.  He was born September 29, 1954 in Clarksburg to the late Harry Allen Cleek and Mary Evelyn (Davis) Cleek.
Harry participated in the Special Olympics for 7 years in West Virginia, winning several gold medals for Bocce Ball.  He was also a member of the handicapped Boy Scouts of Baltimore, MD.
In addition to his parents, Harry is preceded in death by his brother, William Kendall Cleek.

Mary Hawkins - April 29, 1943 - February 03, 2022

Obituary Preview: Mary Hawkins, 78, of Hurricane, formerly of Enterprise, passed peacefully on to her heavenly home on February 3, 2022 with family by her side, following an extended illness.  Mary was born on April 29, 1943 in Enterprise, the daughter of the late Lloyd Howard and Wanda Russell McIntire.
Mary was married to Richard Hawkins on August 27, 1960 and they remained happily married for 55 years until his passing on October 17, 2015.  Mary will be sadly missed by her two children Rob Hawkins and wife Holly of Shinnston and Tami Powell and husband Darren of Hurricane.  She is also survived by five grandchildren who adored their Mammaw, Kirk Powell and wife KayLee of Scott Depot, Evan Powell and wife Alyssa of Sissonville, Haley Lucey and husband Nathaniel of Monroe, MI, Mackenzie Hawkins and Payton Hawkins, both of Shinnston.  She also leaves behind her five great grandchildren who brought her so much joy in her final years, Saylor, Lincoln, and Vander Powell, Piper Stevens, and Gwendolyn Powell.
She is also survived by her two brothers, Lloyd “Sonny” McIntire and wife Joan of Fairmont, Stanley McIntire of Shinnston, and her sister Ruth Ann Miller of Northville, MI as well as several nieces and nephews, including a special niece Callie Traugh who she spent much time with in her later years.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters Betty Hawkins and Irene Johnson Harbert.
Mrs. Hawkins spent most of her life as a homemaker and earned a reputation as a great cook and baker.  She used her talents whenever she could to help others, whether it was as a home room mother at Enterprise Grade School, church dinners or fundraisers at Enterprise United Methodist, Family Life Fellowship, or Jewel City Church, providing funeral dinners for friends and families or helping out those less fortunate, Mary was very giving of her time and talents.  She loved hosting family gatherings for the extended family at her home and as her immediate family grew, she hosted family dinners on Sunday and regardless of the occasion, no one ever left hungry.
As a baker, it was Christmas season that she truly loved.  She would annually bake hundreds of dozens of cookies and distribute them to friends and family.  Even those who offered to buy cookies were either undercharged or not charged at all.  Mary would rather use her talents to make people happy than for personal gain.
Mary was very strong in her faith and looked forward reuniting with her parents and her husband Richard, whom she missed greatly.
Friends and family will be received at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike St., Shinnston on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm.  Service will be on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at 11:00am with her son-in-law, Pastor Darren Powell officiating.  Burial to follow at Enterprise IOOF Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Melvin Merl Sowers, 81, of Fairmont, WV, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Ruby Memorial Hospital with family by his side.  He was born in Shinnston, WV on April 16, 1940, to the late Elwood Merl Sowers and Mary Etta Wilmouth-Sowers.
Melvin was a 1958 graduate of Mannington High School.  He proudly served in the United States Army. He was a coal miner, having worked for Martinka Coal Mines, as an electrician in Fairmont, WV.
Melvin was a member of the American Legion post 31, Masonic Lodge #24, member of the UMWA, Harrison County EMS for over 15 years and retired Ohio Carpenters Union.
Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending NASCAR races with his family.
Melvin resided with his daughter, Dusty Willis and husband Tom; grandson, Joshua McNemar; granddaughter, Megan Utter and her husband Zachary and his best buddy, Jeff Willis.  Melvin also resided with three grand-fur babies:  Shake, Miya and Zorro.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Belle (Holt) Sowers, whom he married September 1963; son, Jeffery Alan Sowers; and two sisters:  Dolores Trusky and Judith Hoskin.
Melvin is survived by his son, Melvin Daniel “Danny” Sowers and wife Julie of Shinnston; daughter, Dusty Willis and husband Tom of Fairmont; four granddaughters:  Elissa, Shandon, Shayla and Megan; four grandsons:  Travis, Danny, Tyler and Josh; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: John Lawrence “Tuffy” Marra, Sr., 82, of Shinnston, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at WVU Medicine’s Fairmont Medical Center following an extended illness.  Tuffy was born July 7, 1939, in Harrison County, son of the late Lawrence and Rose Marra.
Tuffy was a 1957 graduate of Shinnston High School, where he earned Spartan status.  After high school, Tuffy attended West Virginia University and played football for the Mountaineers as a fullback.  Tuffy graduated from WVU with a degree in education and served as a teacher at Central Junior High School in Clarksburg for over 30 years.
Tuffy’s favorite activities were fishing and playing golf with cousin and close friend, Sam Minardi.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Marra; sister, Katherine Oppedisano; and son, John L. Marra, Jr.
Tuffy is survived by two sons; Robert Marra and wife Gina of Fairmont and Lawrence A. Marra of Hepzibah; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann (Marra) Mayes and husband Stephen of Clarksburg and several nieces and nephews.

Sonny was self-employed as a handyman and did lawncare.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved camping and the outdoors.
He is survived by one brother, William Carpenter and wife Mary of Hopewell, VA; one sister, Ruby Kathleen Carpenter of Clarksburg; two nieces:  Kathleen Gerrard and husband Bernard of Hepzibah, Debbie White and husband Clifford of Spelter and several great nieces and nephews.
A special “thank you” from the family to Kathleen Gerrard and Debbie White for the special care they provided their uncle.
Sonny was raised and lived his life in the Glenwood Hill community.  His friends and neighbors will miss him greatly.

She is survived by her son, Robert Kenneth Pill of Gypsy; one sister, Carol Stout of Clarksburg; three nephews:  Larry Williams and companion Georgia, Steven Vest and wife Deidra and Donnie Hashman, Jr.; five nieces:  Debbie Quinn and companion Richard Goodwin, Kathy Ridenour and companion Dave, Christina Varner, Linda Sendling and husband Donnie and Amanda Hashman as well as several great nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Joseph Delbert Brooks, 83, of Shinnston, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Stonerise of Bridgeport.  He was born in Kansas City, KS on December 1, 1938, son of the late Joseph Nathan and Minnie Elizabeth (Cash) Brooks.
He proudly served in The United States Navy for 21 years.  Joseph served as an aviation machinist mate, achieving the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class (ADJ 1).  He repaired, and later instructed others to repair, jet aircraft in the US Navy’s 2nd oldest fighter squadron, FA-31, The Fighting 31st “Tomcatters”.  He was also a SYS ORG maintenance tech, a work center supervisor and motorcycle defense driving course instructor.
Joseph was a motor repairman and worked for Lumberport Shinnston Gas. He loved to hunt and fish.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 31, Fleet Reserve Association branch 33, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, WV State Muzzle Loading Association, Appalachian Rangers (past President), State Representative for Appalachian Rangers to the WV State Muzzle Loading Association, Women’s Club of Shinnston, Lumberport Lions Club, an honorary member of the Middle Island Longbeards Chapter of the NWTF and in the Fur-Trade Rendezvous Club.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sulayne Elinor (Hornor) Brooks of Shinnston; one daughter, Debra Lynn Marion and husband Robert of The Villages, FL; three grandsons:  Jeffrey Adam Benbenek and wife Kaitlin, and their son Connor, of Dunnellon, FL, Larry Allen Benbenek and wife Tatiana, and their children, Shelby and Charlie, of Bratislava, Slovakia and Joseph Benbenek and wife Sonya of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister, Susan Kronsage and husband William of Montgomery, TX; one sister-in-law, Mary Brooks of Montgomery, TX as well as several nieces and nephews. “Adopted daughter”, Amy Wilson and husband Chad, and their children, of Shinnston. Three special friends:  Larry “Wop” Livingstone and wife Linda of Perkiomenville, PA, Bob Leasure and wife Debbie of Alma, and Charles Enich and wife Donna of Middlebourne.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Edgar Nathan “Pete” Brooks.
