Sloan Elizabeth Calderon - April 18, 2021 - February 14, 2024

Departed: 02/14/2024 (Chicago)
Obituary Preview: It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sloan Elizabeth Calderon, our darling little girl and beautiful soul who graced our lives with love and strength. Sloan was born on April 18, 2021, and born into eternal life on February 14, 2024, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy of courage, resilience, and love.
Sloan is survived by her devoted parents, Willie and Maggie (nee Dolehide) Calderon, who lovingly, and tirelessly doted on Sloan with unwavering care throughout her life, and by her brother William Calderon. Her memory will forever be cherished by her grandparents, Willie and Patricia (nee Vargas) Calderon, and Robert and Beth (nee Flaherty) Dolehide and her great-grandparents, Isabel (nee Salas) Marshall and Eileen (nee Carroll) Dolehide. Sloan leaves a lasting impact on her aunts and uncles—Moira Dolehide, Robert Dolehide Jr. and Alexandra Milling, Conor and Jessica (nee Quaid) Dolehide, Justin and Claudia (nee Samano) Calderon, and Scott Calderon; her cousins—Mya and Xavier Calderon, and Teagan, Conor Jr., and Kieran Dolehide; and many other caring family and dear friends. She is welcomed home in Heaven by her great-grandparents Dr. Robert Dolehide, Daniel and Margaret (nee Hession) Flaherty, and Ricardo and Socorro (nee Montes) Calderon, and Jose Vargas.
Among those who shared a special bond with Sloan was her dedicated nurse, Andrea Ojeda, who provided compassionate care and companionship. Sloan's love also extended beyond the human connections in her life; she had a special place in her heart for her beloved dog, Darby, jamming to music, her dinosaur called Dragon, art projects with her therapists, and the latest fashion styles. These brought comfort to Sloan and created cherished memories for her family.
Sloan faced a formidable adversary in the form of Gaucher disease. However, Sloan's fiery spirit beamed through, providing perpetual hope and courage. Her sweet, sassy personality and fierce bravery in the face of pain and obstacles became an inspiration. Her infectious and radiant smile deeply touched our hearts and her gentle hand squeeze was a constant reminder of the fragility of life and to treasure every precious moment.
As we say our goodbyes, let us remember Sloan for the indomitable spirit she embodied and for the love that she generously shared. Even in her death, Sloan is changing the world for the better and leaves a lasting legacy as an organ donor and Gaucher research participant.
A celebration of Sloan's life will be held on March 9, 2024, at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 10134 S Longwood Dr, Chicago, IL 60643. Visitation at 10:00 am, followed by Mass at 11:00 am.
May our beloved Sloan Elizabeth Calderon rest in peace, free from the burdens she carried in this life, and may her memory live on in the hearts of those who loved her dearly.

John Roudybush Baily - October 25, 1943 - February 04, 2024

Departed: 02/04/2024 (Chicago)
Obituary Preview: John Baily, son of Edris Roudybush Baily and John Robert Baily passed away on February 4, 2024. at the age of 80. He grew up in Beverly Morgan Park. John was not a junior as many believed; his middle name, Roudybush, from his mother connected him to family heritage in Iroquois County, IL.
John graduated from Morgan Park High School, attended Culver Academy, The Citadel and graduated from Northwestern University. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and saw duty in Viet Nam and other Pacific locations and was later in the Marine Reserves. He was a competitive marksman both for his schools and for the Marine Corps.
During his career his talents were sought for his computer skills beginning in the days of DOS (early computer disc operating system) and he was occasionally called back to active duty to solve technical problems for the military in the United States. These skills were later employed by FMC Corporation and Blue Cross Blue Shield. But he found his calling in construction management, building affordable housing on Chicago’s west side, working with a volunteer group that put “ tiny houses” on vacant land for homeless people, and building or renovating homes in Chicago. Finally he ran a factory in Milwaukee for Universal Housing Systems creating manufactured houses and consulting for architects and contractors in Chicago. He even built Burger King restaurants.
After retirement he returned to live where he grew up and could often be seen riding his bicycle through the neighborhood. Following an earlier interest in cooking, he loved the kitchen at Trinity United Methodist Church where he baked bread and made healthy soup weekly which he distributed to those who stopped by and to a circle of friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his sister Edris Baily Hoover (husband Steve) his niece Edris Hoover-Hinman (husband Carl) and great niece Cora Hoover- Wyant who live in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 9848 S. Bob Olson - November 19, 1937 - January 21, 2024

Departed: 01/21/2024 (Chicago)
Obituary Preview: Bob was born on November 19, 1937 to the late Edwin D. Olson and the late Margaret Olson (nee Carroll), he entered into eternity peacefully on January 21, 2024. His mother always told him I don’t care what you do in life, just be a good man. Well, he did that and then some! He always told everyone how blessed he was with a wonderful family and amazing friends.
He is the eldest brother of Margaret “Peg” Olson, Victor (Sandra) Olson, and the late Kenneth (the late Susan) Olson. He will be remembered fondly as an uncle “Unicle” to his nieces Kimberly (Michael) Heran, Lisa Olson (the late Marcial Rivera), Victoria (Salvatore) DeLucia, Tracy (Charles) Luker, Kristina (Richard) Pacheco, and Heather (Ignacio) Urtubi. He’s the proud great uncle to 10 grand nephews and 1 grand niece, James and Ryan Heran, Zachariah Rivera, Darren Barile, Kenny and Charlie Luker, Alexandra, Eric, and David Pacheco, and Sebastian and Matias Urtubi.
Having no children of his own, he became the “adopted” father and mentor to O’Cephus Starks Sr. and Romeo Kasvose who both cared lovingly for him through his later years.
Bob was a proud educator serving as a teacher in the Chicago Public School System over 35 years and retired as principal of Vanderpoel Elementary where he mentored many students. Notably, he has the distinction of being the first white teacher at Fenger High School to teach African-American history.
He was a great humanitarian, having helped many young African Americans, Africans, and others by opening his home, mentoring those people and providing financial support for those in need. He has hosted students in his home from all over the world including Africa, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbeckistan, and Ecuador.
Always helping and caring, he was a longtime supporter of the Augustinian Chulucanas Mission in Peru for Bishop John McNabb.
He was blessed with countless friends who knew him to be an avid bridge player. An amazing entertainer, he started to prepare his meals early morning and he took great pride in feeding others. Many have been fearful, but no one ever succumbed to his expiration dates. An extremely thrifty shopper was he who could send a customer service department into a frenzy over a missing 7 cent discount, Bob would plan his day searching out all the papers for the best sales and coupon offers. He would travel 10 miles or more to save a penny more off a gallon of gas! He will always be remembered as an accomplished dancer (i.e. The shoulder dance) and was the life of every party. He thought he made many mistakes, but later he discovered he was wrong.
We will cherish and remember all the memories and stories of life he gave us over the years. Please have a manhattan or drink of your choice in his honor. Raise your glass and celebrate a man of great integrity who will live in all of our hearts forever.
