Glenn E. "Mickey" McKnight - January 30, 1926 - January 03, 2024

Departed: 01/03/2024 (Sharpsville)
Obituary Preview: Glenn E. “Mickey” McKnight of Edgewood Drive, Pymatuning Township, passed away January 3, 2024, at home. He was 97.
Known for his wide, freely given smile and generous spirit, McKnight will be greatly missed by his family, community and many, many friends. Mick was always good for a drink and a laugh. He greeted everyone like an old friend and was still a joy to be around and quick as a whip.
Born January 30, 1926, the eldest child of Lawrence and Mary (Diefenderfer) McKnight, Mickey grew up on the family farm in Reynolds. This is likely where he learned a little bit about everything, a trait that made him a very handy friend to have over the decades.
A 1944 graduate of Transfer schools, McKnight served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946 as military police in Germany during World War II. His claim to fame was issuing a speeding ticket to General Patton.
After returning home from Europe, he worked at Bob Reimold’s Auction and then owned and operated McKnight Furniture. He went on to work at Damascus Tube, retiring after 29 years.
Mick married Leona “Dolly” Redmond on January 28, 1954. They spent many happy years raising their children, spoiling their grandchildren and greeting each new great-grandbaby with warm hugs and handmade blankets. She preceded him in death in 2013.
A founding member of Reynolds VFW Post 7599, the club had named the pavilion in his honor. Over the years, he served as a member of the honor guard, an officer or two and more.
He was a longtime member of Zion’s United Church of Christ, Transfer.
Mickey was an ardent Reynolds Raider fan to the end, attending games with his daughter Bonnie until age 97. The response and support from Reynolds Raider Nation in Mickey’s golden years meant a lot to him and his family. A fan of sports in general, Mickey mostly supported Pittsburgh teams,  but didn’t really care who was playing as long as there was a game to watch. Back in the day, McKnight  played baseball with the Reynolds Drive-In team, was an avid bowler and coached Little League in Pymatuning Township. Though he always said golf was boring, he gave it a try at age 70 and loved it.
Always a tinkerer, Mickey could always be counted on to try and fix busted machinery for his friends and neighbors. He was famous for his chicken cooked to perfection on a spit. The family still celebrated Mickey’s Chicken Weekend annually at his home. He enjoyed gardening, farming, fishing, birdwatching from his large front porch, watching and attending all kinds of sporting events. He could often be found at the VFW winning small games of chance and laughing with strangers and friends, sugaring up his grandkids, great-grandkids and himself. He never said no to dessert. And if there were a few kinds, he’d try them all.
McKnight is survived by: three children, Bonnie Anderson and husband Clyde, Pymatuning Township, Glenda James and husband David, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Corey McKnight, at home; sister Ronda Reichard, Pymatuning Township; 6 grandchildren, Courtney Saylor and husband Jeremy, Sharon, Stacy LoSchiavo and husband Ian, Leesburg, Va., Jeremy James and wife Allison, Bristow, Va., Jessica Dhillon and husband Amar, San Jose, Calif., Justin James and fiancee Andrea Woosley, Reynoldsburg, and Joshua James and wife Kris, Groveport, Ohio; 10 great-grandchildren, Osric Saylor, McKenna Glenn LoSchiavo, Sofia and Scarlett James, Samantha and Isabella Dhillon, Alexandra and Theodore James, Zachary and Jacob James; sisters-in-law Louise McKnight, Clark, and Carol McKnight, Brookfield, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews who always called him Uncle Mick; his dear friend and neighbor Dick Rhoades and family; and his favorite bartender Julie.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Norman McKnight and Kenneth McKnight.
Friends may call Monday January 8th, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Tuesday January 9th, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home & Crematory 124 W., Main St. Sharpsville, PA 16150.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 9th, 2024 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Eric Peters of Fredonia Presbyterian Church officiating. Full military honors will be offered by the Reynolds VFW.
Burial will take place in Rickert Cemetery Transfer, PA.

Rosemary Mardersteck - August 29, 1929 - December 21, 2023

Departed: 12/21/2023 (Sharpsville)
Obituary Preview: Rosemary Mardersteck, 94, died peacefully on December 21, 2023, at The Saint Barnabas Nursing Home in Gibsonia.  She was preceded in death by her sisters Helena Mitch and Dorothea Jaeger. She is survived by her niece, Carol J. Leshock, and her nephews Paul Jaeger (Nancy), Frank Jaeger, Joe Jaeger (Rita),  Bob Von Mitch (Kim), and their children and grandchildren: David Leshock, Paige L. Mancuso (Seth), Eric Leshock, Brett Leshock (Lynda), Stacy L. Dee (Chris), Grayson and Beckham Dee, Libby J. Meisman (Matt) and their sons Jack, Will, and Ben Meisman, Eric Jaeger (Alyssa), Michael and Christopher Jaeger, and Rob and Jenna Von Mitch.
Rosemary was born on August 29, 1929, in Sharon, Pennsylvania.  She was the youngest of the four children of Karl and Mary Mardersteck.  Her grandfather, father and brother passed away from illnesses during the early 40’s when Rosemary was young.
Rosemary attended Sharon High School where she played clarinet in the band. Rosemary and her mother took many cruises and vacations together.  She never married and lived with her mother on Hall Avenue until her mother passed away.
Rosemary was very active in Notre Dame Catholic Church, where she was a eucharistic minister, and she participated in the parish book club and the small faith sharing group.  Many of her friends were nuns or priests.
Two of Rosemary’s loves were golf and dogs.  Rosemary was an active golfer into her eighties, and she always had a dog.  She loved to take her dog for daily walks in Buhl Park.
Rosemary also delivered Meals on Wheels, and she was a member of the Bedford Beauties Golf League.
She worked at Westinghouse in Sharon as a technician in the testing lab for years, even after manufacturing ceased. She retired from Westinghouse when the test lab closed.
Rosemary was a civil war buff who visited Gettysburg several times; she even owned a civil war musket.  She also loved Gone With the Wind and Clark Gable, and she had a collection of related memorabilia.
After her mother had passed away, Rosemary lived off a small inheritance and a pension, but she was always generous to others. Eventually worried friends contacted her family when Rosemary became confused and forgetful.  She could no longer safely live on her own.  We chose Saint Barnabus because her sister Dorothea had been there, and it was halfway between Sharon and Greensburg, where her niece lives.  The Village also offered free golf and many amenities.  She moved there in May of 2019, but in November, she had to move into The Arbors because of her dementia.  She did not really like The Village, but she loved the Arbors and the Nursing Home, where she had spent a few weeks in rehab after a fall.  The administration and staff there were wonderful, and she always told us how happy she was with the activities and the food.  She had not complained even once about being quarantined during Covid because she kept saying, “Everyone is so nice here!”
Memorial contributions if you so wish can be made to the Saint Barnabas Compassionate Care fund.
Friends are welcome to gather Friday January 5th, 2024 at 10:30 a, in the church of Notre Dame 2325 Hermitage Rd., Hermitage, PA.
