Obituary Preview: Paul David Bertram
Paul David Bertram, 86, of Perrington, loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 27, 2023.
Paul was born February 13, 1937, in Wyandotte, Michigan. The son of Paul and Maxine (Ingram) Bertram. He graduated from Wyandotte/Roosevelt High School in 1955. After high school Paul enlisted in the US Navy where he served four years in the R-2 Division, aboard the USS Cadmus AR-14, a repair ship in the navel fleet. After the military, Paul was an apprentice at Great Lake Steal and eventually took a more stable job serving as a Police Officer for the Allen Park Police Department. He remained a Police Officer for eight years before transitioning to the Division Director of Driver Assessment for The Michigan Department of State. A position he remained at until retirement. Paul had a strong work ethic and often reminded his children and grandchildren that they should be gainfully employed. Once so, every paycheck, a portion, whether big or small, should be saved and never touched. He always said if you were not saving, you were not living right.
Paul married the love of his life Corinne Ellen Matthews on March 5, 1983 and they blended their families together. Paul cherished Corinne and the sprinted, spontaneous way she lives her life. He never knew what to expect from her and she always kept him on his toes. Together for over 42 years they help raise and mentor their six children: Matthew Paul (Amy) Bertram, Allison Kay (Chris) Cummings, Eric Matthews Beard, Laurie Annette (Douglas) Barnes, Walter Douglas (Erika) Beard and Tomi Lynn (Pete) Simmons. Paul was welcomed into heaven by his parents and beloved sons Matthew and Eric.
Paul enjoyed many hobbies and activities throughout his life. He could fix anything and if he couldn't fix it, he would build you another. He found such joy creating intricate and sophisticated pieces of furniture. He took such pride in everything he created and loved to see the reactions on people's faces when he told them he built that. He enjoyed many years at his lake home, “tinkering” with his lifelong friend John building barns or fixing whatever may be broken. Paul always had a project and a friend that would lend a helping hand. More than anything though Paul loved the simple things in life. He loved a good meal and a real conversation. A cigar and a boat ride. Or simply sitting outside with his beloved wife and watching the cars go by.
Paul's many grandchildren were a light in his life and his eyes would light up every time he would see them. He had 15 grandchildren, Jackson Bertram, Lhiannan (Rudy) McConnell, Aiden Cummings, Kain Cummings, Eric Barnes, Dillon Barnes, Jarrett Barnes, James Beard, Raymond (Nikki) Beard, Madeleine (Adan) Diego, Casandra (Sergej) Rollmann, Nicole (Ryan) Winsor, Scott Beard, Josh Simmons and Lauren Simmons. He also had 13 great grandchildren Harlee Kae, Austin, Georgia, Molly, Lilian, Elijah, Levana, Kade, Abigail, Athena, Selena, Evelina, and Tamara.
