He was a Shift Manager & Production Manager with Novolex (Duro Bag). James enjoyed stock car racing, bowling, striper fishing and playing cards. But the most important thing in his life was his family, especially his nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ernest L. Dykes.
James is survived by his brother Dan (Barbara) Dykes, nephew Daniel Dykes, niece Anna Erhart, brother Darryl (Robin) Dykes, nephew Harry Dykes, sister Carla Michelle Daniel, nieces Robin Gregory, Chrystal Phelps, Katherine Wallace, nephews Alan Nicklas, Chris Phelps, Cody Daniel. He is also survived by his nephews Michael Dykes, David Dykes, and Brandon Dykes who are the sons of his deceased brother Ernest Lee Dykes.
Visitation will be from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Monday, April 15, 2024 at the Dobbling, Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home 835 York St. in Newport. Funeral Ceremony will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at the Dobbling, Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Newport. Burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery Southgate in Kentucky.

Ginny had a passion for life and caring for others, especially children. Her hobbies included reading, taking bus tours and keeping up with her extensive network of friends.

Ginny is survived by her daughter, Lawanna Covington; 2 grandsons, K-ron & Kameron Covington; sister, Sylvia Covington; brother, John Covington and many nieces, nephews & cousins.

Obituary Preview: Richard “Rick” Sacksteder, age 76, of Covington, KY passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023, after a bout with cancer. He is survived by his beloved spouse of 55 years, Victor Canfield, and by his sisters Donna Budai (Mike), Tina Swigart (Dave), and Theresa Powers; nephew Brian (Megan) Budai, nieces Amanda (Pat) Christman, Christy (Lance) Angle, Erin (Spencer) Rupert, Jaimie (Jacob) Minnich, a grandniece and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his father Gusswin Buddy Sacksteder, mother Bernice (nee: Haigis) Sacksteder Powers, and sister Linda (Ron) Allen.
Growing up in Newport and Southgate, KY, Rick graduated from St. Stephen Elementary (Newport) and Newport Catholic High School. He studied at St. Pius X Seminary, Thomas More College (AB 1970), University of Cincinnati (MEd 1972), University of Minnesota (MA 1978), and University of Cincinnati (1979–80; doctoral studies in Psychology). Rick was a counselor, teacher, and tennis coach at St. Henry High School, Erlanger, KY (1970–76), and a teaching associate and student advisor, University of Minnesota (1977–78). He served as: Archdiocese (Cincinnati) Consultation Services counselor for religious and priests (1979–1986); Counselor Global community program for religious (1979–1987); and Counselor Holmes/Chapman Vocational School, Covington, KY (1986–2002). From 2002 until 2020, he was a Licensed Clinical Counselor for students at Mount St. Joseph University, Cincinnati, OH. In addition, Rick worked part-time as a reference assistant for nearly 35 years at Kenton County Public Library, Covington.
Rick was an enamelist by hobby, winning many first-place ribbons. He collected art and supported local artists. Rick also loved choral singing, studying cultures and geography, meeting people from around the world, and studying languages (German, Spanish, Latin, Portuguese, and Russian). He also enjoyed traveling with Vic to foreign countries. He rescued over 100 dogs and cats, and fed birds and other animals daily.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 10:00 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at Mother of God Church, 119 West 6th St., Covington, KY. She was also a church organist at Corpus Christi, St. Francis DeSales and St. Philip Churches; Baptist Home and Holy Family Home She was the daughter of the late Albert and Helen (Nichols) McCarthy. Pat was very honored and proud of her Irish heritage and loved Saint Patrick’s Day. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Fry, Jr.; her sister, Eileen McCarthy; brothers, Albert and Paul McCarthy.
